    Hi Guys,
I have two identical 24in iMacs. One used to be in my office but as I am now based at home I want to use the second screen in dual monitor-mode with my home-based iMac. Is this possible and if so how?

    Hi,
It looks like it would but that seems like it connects via ethernet and some people report colour issues. Is there no way of using the videoports or anything? I also use the ethernet port to connect to my Time Capsule.

  • How do you copy photos from one iMac's iPhoto library to another iMac's iPhoto library??

I have 20K+ photos on my original iMac and enjoy the desktop shuffle of pictures.  I have a newer iMac that has its own library of pictures but I would really like to take all of the pictures from the original iMac and put them on the newer one.  I have a wireless network with an Airport Extreme that both machines are on.  Both machines are running Leopard.  Same versions of iPhoto 11, 9.2.2.  I have an iPad that has all of the pictures on it and that I sync on the older iMac.  When I tried to connect my iPad on the newer iMac in hopes that it would upload the pictures, iTunes gave me warnings about the device not being synced, erasing the library, etc., so I immediately ejected the iPad.  I have all these options for copying the data from one machine to the other but can't seem to make any of them work.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Larry, I'll look into the iPhoto Library Manager.  I've downloaded the free trial to get a feel for it.  My large photo library is 85GB and I want to avoid having to buy an external drive just to make this one move.  My iDisk is about 20 GB so I would be doing 5 exports to get it all done.  I guess what I really need to do is understand my network a bit better and see how I can transfer this across my lines.  I appreciate your quick response!

  • HMRC tools won't work on my iMac but will load on another iMac of same spec.

HMRC PAYE Tools stoped working so I did a full install and re load of this software but when opened it opens a box that says it's creating history tables and just hangs there. I've tried in stalling the same download on an identical iMac and it works fine but I need it on this Mac.
    Any help very gratfully appreciated

Thanks, I had tried that and with the same result. Sincd my lasy reply I uninstalled Flash and the App works.  I am assuming that there is a clash between the App and the latest flash player.
I would like to thank you very much for your help and your time. I have only had my Mac for about 5 months so am still working my way through learning the intimacies of it. People like you make all the difference.

  • IMac/Magic Mouse issue with multiple iMacs.

I bought two new imacs last month with wireless Magic Mice.  The mice one both of them keep having communication issues.  I returned them to the genius bar and they replaced them.  I'm still having the issue.  I keep having to reset the SMC for them to work, but they only work temporarily.  I've also tried zapping the PRAMs  Any suggestions?

Do a search of this forum, Just look down this page for two or three other posts with the same theme. Many folks report the issue. Many folks report different ways of solving it for themselves.
I have had the MM for three weeks now without one issue. I am even experimenting with BetterTouchTool for added utility of my MM.

  • Are 2009/2011 iMac power supply compatible with mid2010 iMac?

I have a mid-2010 that doesn't turn on. None of the LEDs turn on and I've been troubleshooting for a couple weeks with no luck. I want to buy a power supply for the iMac but I'm not sure if others are compatible. I can't find one specifically for the 2010 one.
    Information:
    Mid-2010 21.5" iMac
    EMC 2389
    About 2.5-3 years old
    It doesn't turn on
None of the diagnostic LEDs are lit
Makes a small zzz noise every couple seconds when plugged in
    Suspected power supply failure

    Switching won't harm your machine.

  • IMac Retina 5K (2015) with 1xTDM iMac (2011) and 1x Dell External Display possible?

I have 1 x 27" iMac Retina 5K (2015), 1 x 27 " iMac (mid 2011) and a Dell P2715Q. I'd like to know if it's possible to run the 2011 iMac in Target Display Mode and my Dell as a secondary display from my 2015 iMac? My desired configuration is the 2015 iMac running two external displays. The 2015 iMac has an AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4GB Gfx card and both iMacs are running Yosemite 10.10.1
I have verified that running the 2011 iMac only via TDM works. Also running the Dell as an external Display only works (either at 4K resolution or the same resolution as the external iMac (2560x1440) via SwitchResX). With the Dell running @ 2560x1440, trying to put the 2011 iMac into TDM, causes a slow grey screen, then some display artefacts when coming out of TDM. Going in and out again appears to refresh the screen. But it doesn't seem to work.
I was wondering if anyone else has a similar configuration working and if so what settings or configuration changes to make?
    Thanks!

I stopped by the Apple Store yesterday, and they were nice enough to try the Screen Sharing solution with me.
Indeed, we were able to share the screen of a MacBook Pro and display it on the iMac Retina 5K over a Thunderbolt Bridge network. (should also work over WiFi)
As I expected, (based on the native resolutions) the MBP window maxed out at about 55-60% of the height and width of the 5K display.
I didn't try experimenting with lower resolutions on the 5K.
I'd actually be OK with that solution except as we increased the font sizes, (e.g. 48 pt) we noticed a *lot* of ghosting around the characters.
I will have to try it again at normal font sizes and decide if that is something I can work with all day long.
Otherwise, I am leaning towards buying last year's iMac, which kinda' grates me the wrong way.
    Thanks,
    n8

  • Using a 20" iMac as secondary display for another iMac.

I have an older Intel 20" iMac that I'd like to use as a secondary display for a newer 20" iMac. Is that possible?
In my dreamworld, I'd still be able to use the old iMac as a second machine somehow. Ideally I'd be able to leave it running and switch over to it somehow. Am I dreaming or is this somehow possible?

My son no longer uses his old "snowball" iMac (2003) and I may try this as it would a nice (17") second screen.

  • Is Intel iMac (white) harddrive interchangable with white iMac G5?

I have a new (used) Intel iMac, and I'd like to put the harddrive from an iMac G5 (no iSight) into it. Do both these computers use the same type of harddrive? Can I just swap them? Thanks.

    Kappy,
Thanks for the reply. So you're saying they should have the same mounting points as well? I know they use the same type of protocol, connectors, power supply, etc. I also need to make sure they are physically compatible as well. Just being cautious.

  • IMac Won't Boot With USB Keyboard Connected

We have a suite of 10 iMacs (10,1 - 21.5 inch), but one of them will not boot and has issues coming out of sleep while a USB keyboard is plugged in.
Have tried swapping the keyboard with another iMac - the other iMac still boots but the problem iMac continues to play up.
Tried plugging the mouse into the iMac's USB instead of the keyboard's.
    Tried SMC reset, PRAM reset.
Re - imaged the machine from a time machine backup of one of the other iMacs, which made the issue go away for about a month... but then it returned.
Using a magic keyboard is fine as a workaround, but the users need the number pad, and if possible I'd rather fix the issue than buy a clunky separate keypad.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be very appreciated!

    Hello strathglass
The same thing can also happen with other connected devices such as external HD's and iPods, the Startup Manager is lost and searching for a boot volume.
    1. You may be able to fix it by going to: *System Preference / Startup Disk* and select the *Mac OS X 10.5.5 on Macintosh HD* then *Click the lock to prevent further changes.*
    2. Leave those devices that cause boot issues disconnected until the iMac is up and running!
    3. Only sleep the iMac, and be sure to disconnect those devices be for shutting down or updates that require a restart!
As a habit, I have always ejected and disconnected all mounted USB devices (flash driver, iPods, cameras, card reader, etc.) from my hub be for sleeping, restarting or shutting down...

  • Automatically mount USB 3.0 WD External HDD with iMac 24-inch mid-2007

I am using a 2TB Western Digital (WD) My Book Essential external Hard Disk Drive for my iMac 24-inch mid-2007 to use it as a Time Machine backup disk. This HDD only comes with a USB 3.0 connection.
Function-wise, it works with the iMac and Time machine uses it for backup without any issues.
However, the following problem occurs at every restart: the HDD does not mount automatically. And Time Machine stops backuping. To make it work again, I have to either unplug/replug the power cable of the HDD or unplug/plug the USB cable of the HDD so it mounts again and can be used by Time Machine. When unmounted, I tried to see if the disk was at least visible in Disk Utility so I could mount it from there but it does not appear in Disk Utility until I physically unplug/plug it back again.
For troubleshooting purposes, I have tried to use this HDD with my MacBook Pro Retina 2013 and I don't have the same problem as the HDD mounts itself automatically when I restart.
So I assume the problem reside in the way the iMac mid-2007 handle USB 3.0 as it was probably manufactured before the USB 3.0 standard was developped.
Would anyone know a possible workaround for this issue? I don't have too many hopes but one never knows...

    I am using Mavericks 10.9.1.
The problem was also occuring when I was running Mountain Lion.
It looks backward compatible to me except when it comes to automatically mount itself after a restart.

  • We have an iMac 24-inch Mid 2007 with maximum of 4G bytes of SDRAM, with OX X 10.9.4 Mavericks.  It is routinely locking-up with the rainbow wheel.  Especially with iTunes and Safari.  Ideas?

We have an iMac 24-inch Mid 2007 with maximum of 4G bytes of SDRAM, with OX X 10.9.4 Mavericks.  It is routinely locking-up with the rainbow wheel.  Especially with iTunes and Safari.
I'm wondering it it that Mavericks simply uses more RA that the machine allows when also running application, but I don't see the RAM is being maxed out per se' when in Activity Monitor either.  I've also ran the Disk Utility and have run scans wit Sophos, looking for malware, but have found no issues.
Any ideas?  Any better Malware/Spyware applications?
    Help!
