Connect Cisco 3750 with Fiber
"Is Cisco 3550 using a WS-G5486 Gigabit module? What's SFP module would you use to connect a Cisco WS-C3750X-48P-L PoE switch ? Does anyone have experience with SX to LX adapters and if they are reliable?"
A:Hi, to connect them well, you would need to use a GLC-LH-SMD transceiver for this, and a LC-SC single-mode patch cord (if they're being connected directly without an intermediate patch-panel).
I am not an expert with Cisco WS-C3750X-48P-L PoE switch but you may want to post it to Cisco community forum. Here's the link to that: https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/5976/small-business-switches

Problems connecting two stacks with fiber
I am having problems getting the 2 stacks to see each other with fiber. just your basic stacks, nothing fancy. Is there a line in the config that needs to be added? Fiber LED's are not lit.
Hi!
As you said the fiber LEDs are not lit, that means the ports are not 'up' so the stacking has not been done.
Log into your switches and then run the command 'Show int interface name' to know the status of the fiber ports.
Also check the connectivity of the stacking cables with the ports in the switch. Maybe you can take them out and then connect them again.

Hi everybody,
I´m trying connect two catalyst 3560 Catalyst switch through fiber. I have a network in the office, it is working. Now, I need to take a switch in my office network (switch A) and add a new switch (switch B) for connect a near office. I have the same converter modulo in both extreme (finisar trj8519p1bnl-mc), I configured the switch B with Ethernet wire (from 10.0.0.1) and I put an IP within to office range IP (the same that others switch).
But when I connect the fiber in both switch port, the ports led are off. When I access to web interface from switch A, I can see the fiber port in yellow.
Somebody can help me?

Unsure if this is your issue, but many Cisco devices, by default, won't run non-Cisco optics. If not already doing so, you might try adding "service unsupported-transceiver" to your configuration. -
Connecting 2 switches with Fiber
Hi,
I have a basic question regarding two 3750G switches I would like to connect using fiber.
I have the 2 Twingig modules converter available for each switch.
I need to know my requirement to connect these two switch by their uplink.
I have already on my list:
1 SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) the question is how many SFP modules will I need to connect these 2 switches as each switch has 2 Twingig port (hence 4 SFP ports available). since each Twing Gig port has 2 SFP module.should I use 1 Twin Gig module and ordre 2 SFP modules (GLC-SX-MM) for each switch (hence 4 GLC-SX-MM )for the connection to work ?
Thanks for your guidance and related documentation you'll be giving.According to the following Cisco document, the Twingig converter module can be used with up to 2 SFPs; which would seem to indicate the use of 1 SFP in a Twingig converter module is supported.
<http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750e_3560e/hardware/install/notes/1757202.html>
You could install 2 SFPs per switch and run EtherChannel to gain additional uplink bandwidth. -
Trouble connecting Cisco router with cable modem for Internet purposes
So I am requesting help from the Cisco community on this issue as the cable company states there equipment is working fine. At all my facilities I have a guest Internet service setup through a local Internet provide to provide Internet services to the residents and guests. I have the cable modem usually a Motorola SBG6580 or a SMC 8014 (both provided by cable company) connected to my router on a FE or GE interface. I am using static IPs and using the cable modem just as a modem (bridge mode). Over the past several months these connections have just stopped working. I have not made any drastic changes to my router configs; however, the cable company has updated the firmware on these modems. I am wondering if that could affected how the modem and router talk. I was told by the cable company that the modem sees the Cisco router but that the port is inactive. My router shows the port is active and traffic passing. Does anyone have any ideas that could point where the problem lies? I will post a basic config to one that currently does not work. I am using a VRF to route a certain group out, using NAT. Please let me know if I need to post additional info. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Connecting two 4510r with Fiber
I would like to connect two 4510r (50 Km separated) via FO but it doesn´t seem to support ZX FSPs and the supervisors don´t have GBIC slots. Any recommendations?
Two questions -
What Sup is in question?
Are you using this SFP( part number GLC-ZX-SM=) ?
This SFP seems to be supported by Sup IV and SuP V.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps4324/products_data_sheets_list.html
Also check this link. The highlight being
"Cisco 1000BASE-ZX GBIC can reach up to 62 miles (100 km) by using dispersion shifted SMF or low-attenuation SMF; the distance depends on fiber quality, number of splices, and connectors."

Cisco routers with Fiber-optic interface
is there are router with both Fiber-optic (SM) and E1 interface that can act as a redundant on a both Microwave and Fiber Optic transmission.
Hi
You can think off about going on for New Cisco ISR series routers coz Cisco 2600 series have reached EOL/EOS stage...
For different available models do refer this link..

On the modules/interfaces supported do check this out ..

Cisco 3750 with integrated WLC, wpa2 ent, 802.1x and ms IAS.
So first post, I usually figure most of this stuff out. I have this all working with latest firmware etc, but I have more of a MS IAS issue than anything.
The Peap cert used is one generated for my IAS controller, but I have two things... I'd like it to be highly available (if I shutdown Ias#1 it uses ias#2 and has a different certificate as its host name dependent). Also, if I can get a certificate for both IAS servers (using ms cert authority, trusted by all my comp's etc), I'd like it to be more than a one year cert.
Both IAS servers are DC's, so when creating a cert request from Mmc cert snapin for machine, it has the template domain controller and only uses the machine name. I need to make a 2-5 year cert generic for IAS.
Thanks for any help.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad AppThere are two thing you could do.
1.) use a GPO to push the certificate from IAS#2 to all your clients.
2.) under the PEAP config, uncheck the validate server certificate box.
With PEAP, the supplicant doesn't 'need/have' to have the server cert, it's an option. When I'm testing, I alwasy uncheck this box. You could test if the clients will failover to the other IAS with the option unchecked.
As for the cert, are both of these devices a CA, or are you using as self genereated cert? If you have multiple IAS, you may want to promote a server to be a CA< and then issue both of these servers a cert from there. Then you only need to have your CA root on the client, instead of each IAS.

Steve

Hello,
I have an Spanning tree problem when i conect 2 links from Switch DELL M6220 (there are blades to virtual machines too) to 2 links towards 2 switches CISCO 3750 connected with an stack (behavior like one switch for redundancy, with one IP of management)
In dell virtual machine is Spanning tree rapid stp, and in 3750 is Spanning tree mode pvst, cisco says that this is not important, only is longer time to create the tree.
I dont know but do you like this solutions i want to try on sunday?:
Could Spanning tree needs to work to send one native vlan to negociate the bdpus? switchport trunk native vlan 250
Is it better to put spanning-tree guard root in both 3750 in the ports to mitigate DELL to be root in Spanning Tree?
Is it better to put spanning- tree port-priority in the ports of Swicht Dell?
¿could you help me to control the root? ¿Do you think its better another solution? thanks!

I have a new hp 6600-24XG 10gb switch. I would like to connect it to an existing cisco 3750 core switch so the hp will see the network. Is it possiblle to connent one of the 10 gig ports to the 3750's one gig port and set the speed to one gig?
Would I have to buy a module for one or the other of will this just now work?
I appreciate any feedback.

According to HP's product page, the ports in that switch are 10 GbE only - so no you can't connect to it at one gig.
You could buy a 10 gig module for your 3750 switch - a C3KX-NM-10G (SFP), C3KX-NM-10GT (Copper) or C3KX-SM-10G (SFP with advanced features like Netflow), install it and use that to link to your HP switch.

Best way to connect 2 Cisco 3750 PoE 24-port Switches
Hello. I have 2 Cisco 3750 PoE 24-port switches in a small office environment. Right now I have a trunk configured off my ASA 5505 to switch 1, and then just an access port configured on a port (switch 1) and an access port configured on a port (switch 2) to connect them together. These switches also have 2 GB SFP ports but they are not being used in this configuration.
I was curious to know if anyone had any better recommend configurations for connecting these 2 switches together? I'm not sure if this particular model can be stacked? What are the exact model numbers (should be written on a sticker)?
You will know if they can be stacked as you will see the 2x stack ports on the back of each switch :)
If they can then that is probably the way to go unless you want to keep them as separate switches for some reason.
If you want them separate, I would connect them via a Trunk link at least so you can have the same Vlans on both.

Two switches connected with fiber in mode trunk - Problem
Hi to all.
Iam new in the forum, and my english is bad.
I want to post a problem. I have two switches connected with fiber in mode trunk, in the switch C3550 i have this configuration:
interface FastEthernet0/1
description Enlace LAB Medicion
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
no ip address
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
In the switch C2960 this configuration, on interfaces Fa0/48, Giga0/1:
interface FastEthernet0/48
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,20,229
switchport mode trunk
spanning-tree portfast
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,20,229
switchport mode trunk
media-type sfp
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
The problem:
The ip phones with Voice vlan (vlan 20), not find the DHCP server located in the data vlan (vlan 229)
However, using the command:
#switchport trunk native vlan 229
The result is the voice vlan works, but the data vlan not and viceversa depending if the native vlan 229 is present.
I will appreciate any suggestion.leolaohoo.
The configuration on ports switch C2960, have the mode access with voice vlan 20:
interface FastEthernet0/1
switchport access vlan 229
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 20
spanning-tree portfast
interface FastEthernet0/2
switchport access vlan 229
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 20
spanning-tree portfast
I will remove from trunk links:
spanning-tree portfast

Etherchannel two cisco 3750 stacks for iscsi?
I have two sites connected by 96 strands of fibre. At each site I have an IBMv7000 relicating to the other one. For iSCSI traffic I have two Cisco 3750 switches, each are in 2 switch stack.
SAN A Fibre Link SAN B

Cisco Stack A =========================Cisco Stack B

iSCSI Clients iSCSI Clients
My question: Is it ok to connect the the two stacks with etherchannel using the fibre links? Will is provide the necessary redundancy, if one of the interfaces goes down? What model numbers of 3750 are you using?
What is the distance between the stacks as this will dictate your fiber run modules. -
SFP change on Cisco 3750-X 24S
Hello,
I have a Cisco 3750-X 24S equipped with GLC-GE-100FX optical module to provide 100Mbps connectivity to workstation. I have to migrate the workstation NIC to 1 Gbps and, after that, I have to replace the 100base-FX SFP with the 1 GB SFP.
Wich initial configuration on switch port allowm me to replace the SFP without any reconfiguration on the switch port?
Thanks
GabrielePaolo is correct in that you do not need to change the configuration for the switch to recognize the SFP.
However some IOS versions and hardware platforms do require you to manually configure the interface speed (even though a fiber SFP only operations at a fixed speed). Check the current port configuration. If it has "speed 100", be sure to change it to "speed 1000".
Hope this helps.
