Connect display to imac

I just purchased a new Imac and need to connect my apple dispaly monitor so I can use both simultaneously.

The new Macs come with a Thunderbolt port rather than the previous MiniDisplay port, however, for non Thunderbolt monitors, you can plug your MiniDisplayport adapaters into the Thunderbolt port.

  • Problems connecting second display to imac

I just bought a 2013 iMac 27". I have an NEC 27" monitor that I've connected to the iMac with a MiniDisplay cable. It doesn't seem to work. When I restart the computer, it doesn't detect the NEC. If I unplug the cable, and plug it back in, the NEC display will show up. But if the iMac goes to sleep, or I have to restart, the NEC isn't detected.
    Any ideas?

I would test with another monitor to verify that it's not the monitor

  • How do I connect my 27" Imac to my 47" Vizio HDTV?

    Good Morning!
I am attempting to connect my 27" Imac to my brand-spankin-new 47" Vizio 1080p HDTV. I know there is a way to use the TV to display videos, internet (Netflix), and such, but I'm not sure what is the simplest and most effective way to get the best display and performance.
What equipment do I need to make this happen?
Thank you for your assistance, brilliant people!

    I have the 22" imac
beside it I have an 24" dell monitor
I used a miniDisplayport->DVi converter in the TB port of the imac
thats the best performance because DVI like Displayport are both digital interfaces
    same deal with hdmi really
so you need a miniDisplayport to dvi or hdmi depending on the inputs on your tv
and a cable and thats it

Look this article over, the key is to connect either mini display port or thunderbolt and using CMD+F2, let me know if this helps or if it doesn't work out. I'll find another solution if this doesn't work Joel ^_^

    Hi mshields1162,
Great question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, you may want to choose to have the sidebar displayed for familiarity:
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
We'll want to click on it, and choose the Music tab at the top. Let's make sure "Sync Music" is checked:
Afterwards, you'll have the option to sync either the entire music library (for your first iPod), or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres" (for the secondary device). Upon selecting this option, four larger option boxes will appear allowing you to pick and choose what content will be synced. For audiobooks, you may need to do the above in the "Books" section. For a visual instruction on how to do this, see the following:
iTunes 10: Sync to your iPod

    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I'm having trouble connecting my Intel iMac with the internet using wifi router

I'm having trouble configuring my iMac to accept a connection with my Telstra Elite mobile broadband Wifi router.
The iMac's Wifi is turned on and the elite router is selected in the Wifi list with a tick.
The router is turned on, and connected to the internet.
I'm able to surf the net and collect emails using my MacBook Pro ( what I'm using now) and my iPad with no hassles by connecting them to the Telstra Elite Wifi router. But I'm unable as yet to get a connection using the iMac.
The Telstra router accepts up to 5 simultaneous connections.
At present the display on the router says that three devices are connected. They being the iPad, the MacBook Pro and the iMac.
    Can anyone help me out?

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

  • Connect pc to imac

Is it possible to connect PC to Imac ?

    Hello Mende1,
I am wondering, do you mean that if my PC has a Mini DisplayPort, I can connect it even to the late-2012 iMac's and use the iMac as a target display?
How about if my PC's graphics card has a regular DisplayPort, and I get a converter to Mini DisplayPort?
    Tks

  • How do I add a printer connected to another iMac on the network to my printer list?

How do I add an Epson printer connected to an iMac on the network to the printer list on my MacBook Pro? I cannot get it to show up in the list for printers to add.

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

  • We just added a new printer and bluetooth connection to our iMac.  Now iTunes does not recognize our iPads as devices.  Have already tried restarting everything.  Any other suggestions?

  • I am trying to connect my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password, so I reset it and it is working.  I can't figure out how to reset my router password and lock it on my iMac.

I am connecting my new iMac to my Buffalo router.  I forgot my router password so I pushed the reset button and my computer was able to connect.  The problem is, I can't figure out how to set my new password and lock the router.  I went to the Buffalo website and downloaded the CD, as I can't find that either.  I can't open any of it because it says it is Windows and can't open it.  I am new to Apple!

    Ah, new to routers too.
Perhaps it's best to have a local computer support person come set you up?
To explain everything would require writing a book here.
But this is what you want basically.
Router, new Wireless N, firmware updated.
1: Two accounts, one admin, one guest Internet access. Random +30 plus character lenght passwords each preferred.
(guest password to max password length of any iDevices)
2: Encryption: WPA2 AES. No Ping. No remote access. No MAC filtering. Visible.
3: Guest access on devices and computers only.  Passwords written down and stored.
4: OpenDNS preferred but not mandatory.
If you get OpenDNS, you can log into their website for free and set parental controls on things like inappropriate sites for children. So whatever device is used on your network can't access a large portion of those sites (nothing is perfect) by most users who are not technical oriented.
What your doing now is running the bare bones unsecure router which can be used harmfully against you.
Even a Apple Airport router has to be very well secured. The defautl cd and out of the box setup is not a secure solution.
