Connect External Network Drive to Apple TV

I have already connected my external network drive to my PC itunes as "Shared library" and I can access the songs from the shared library (external network drive) from PC itunes.  However my Apple TV is only able to access my music in my PC itunes but cannot access the songs from the shared library.  Everything (PC, Apple TV, external network drive) are hardwired to a router and home-sharing is enable on both PC itunes and apple TV.  Please help.  Thanks.

When you said
"I have already connected my external network drive to my PC itunes as "Shared library" and I can access the songs from the shared library (external network drive) from PC itunes. "
I assumed that the NAS has a UI to share iTunes libraries.
If you are using a NAS to host files, not an iTunes library, it is a different problem.
1. Take a backup of your local (non-NAS) iTunes library, including all media files.
2. Go to iTunes -> Preferences -> Advanced. In the iTunes Media Folder location, click on Change. Point to your NAS iTunes location. This should typically be the "iTunes Media" folder, but older libraries can use a different layout. See this for reference iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder
3. Once it shows you the content from the NAS, verify it. You can now share this library.
4. Turn on Home Sharing on ATV using the same Apple ID, and you should be able to see your NAS library on the ATV.
Caveat: In this configuration, any new content which is added, it will be located on the NAS, not on the PC. If you do not want this configuration, then you will end up merging the two content sets into a single iTunes library and choose where to locate the content (NAS or PC) and share it once the content has been consolidated into a single library.
Here is an example. I have two Macminis which host 720p and 1080p content respectively. I have shared these on my home network. On the ATV3 using the same Apple Id, here is a screen shot from the ATV3 with both libraries.

  • How to take Auto backup from External Network Drive to Mac pro internal Dri

    Hi,
I have a External Network Drive (Buffalo 1TB) which i use as a server, now i need to take auto backup from that external drive to the Mac i am working on, which has 2TB Internal hard Disk.
Please could anyone help me on this.....
    Thanks in advance

If you are looking to actually integrate what you have on the external one terabyte hard drive with the 2 TB hard drive you're using inside the Mac the best move for you if you want access to that data when using the Mac Pro server is going into utilities click on the top bar where it says go fall that down to the utilities told them that folder quickly once you are there you will see migration assistant click on that you will be asked to type your admin password to that. It will ask you "how do you want to transfer your information" then select from a Time machine backup or other disk when it asks you will be transferring information to your Mac Pro from your 1 Tb backup external hard drive once it's finished eject the drive or reformat it and use it again if your objective was to infect keep compress the data on the external so you have more space but do not have access to it I strongly recommend Carbon Copy Clone 3.3.1 is 100% free and does a fantastic job here is the link http://www.pure-mac.com/downloads/carboncopyclonerdl.html of copying every block to create an exact replica of your source hard drive. If you want something different and don't mind paying SuperDuper! is a great product as well this WebSite will have many options I would stick to carbon copy clone http://www.pure-mac.com/backup.html I also like EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software for the Mac it is a great product but very much on the expensive side for backup utilities although if you need word offers this might be right up your alley.
    I hope I wasn't help,
    Sincerely,
    Thomas

  • Can not get my Envy 15 3040nr to recognise my USB connected external hard drive

    Hi All,
Have recently upgraded my HP Envy 15 3040 nr to Windows 8. All good except it wont recognise my USB connected external hard drive. At first I thought my USB port(s) might be faulty as it did recognise the drive a few weeks back but now it wont. Tried connecting other USB devices and they worked no problem.
I have also recently upgraded the BIOS on my laptop and wonderd if this might be the root cause. All in all somewhat perplexed.
    Any ideas, suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Hi
In order to resolve the issue that I think that you  should uninstall the Universal Serial Bus controller in Device manger by uninstalling all options under the USB controller.
Then restart the laptop and uninstall driver will be installed automatically.
Tell me all findings that external harddrive is detected or not.

  • Sandbox cause my app kept connecting unavailable network drive

Sandbox cause my app kept connecting unavailable network drive, can it be fixed?
I have to manually delete sandbox config every time to prevent app hang.

    Hi Jaggs,
       nice question!
I think the problem is that is not only your LabView application which stops, but the Operating System which hangs, if Storage device access fails.  I experienced this problem under many OSs, Win, Linux, Dos-like...even RTOSes (try to access a corrupted Flash card in PharLap ETS for FieldPoint!).
To check if drive is present, you can ping it... it's quite naive, but at least you avoid the "drive disconnected" problem... I think a ping shouldn't hang PC...
What Hardware are you controlling? You know, some NI boards (many...) have onboard memory, and can sample independently of PC control....for a while, of course!
I hope some guru will answer to your question (which I didn't answered, I know! ), because I'm interested too!
       Have a nice day!

  • RMAN Backup to external network/drive on Windows environment

Hello, I have been searching quite a while in many different documents, but I still haven't found a clear understanding on the following subject:
Is it possible to have in a Windows environment a backup strategy which writes these backups to an external network/drive? As for example:
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '\\ext_server_name\backups\%d_ora_df%t_s%s_p%p';
I am aware that this type of backup functions under Unix and Linux environments, nevertheless I would like to do this also under Windows.
Is there a possible way of doing this? And if there it is how can I achieve this, or where can I read about doing this in this way?
Thanks for your help. I hope this information is sufficient for you?

    Possible causes:
Problem: Cannot read key table. The key table that has been extracted must be readable by the user the oracle server process runs as.
Action: On a UNIX system, check the file permissions with ls -l and use chmod as appropriate. This can also be an issue on Windows NT with an NTFS file system. Use the file explorer and change the security setting for the file as needed.

  • Imported Photos when NOT connected to network drive is missing

I connect to external disk drive for my photos.
But when I wasn't connected to the drive, I imported photos just fine - was able to see them all (the just imported one). I could see "blank" thumbnails for the network photos (because I wasn't connected).
Next time I connected to the external drive, the photos i just imported, when I wasn't connected was missing?
    ANY HELP? PLEASE? THANKS.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
My guess is you have two libraries. One is on the external, has all the older pics, the other has the new additions.
To find the other, go to the Finder Go Menu -> Go to Folder and type in /Volumes/The Name of Your External HD...
Can you see the opther library there? If so, drag it to the desktop, and then use iPhoto Library Manager to merge the libraries.

  • Time Machine will no Longer connect to network drive.. Although the drive is visible and accessible by the system.

Time Machine was working fine, until one day back up was failing due to being unable to delete the old backup. now it will no longer connect to the network drive although the external drive is accessible through the system.. any ideas?

Time Machine is completely unrlable on any networked drive unless that drive is connected to one of the new Airport Extremes. I'm not surprised that you're encountering problems with it if you're using a networked drive. Can you plug the drive into your MacBook Pro and see if it will backup? The backups may - probably are - corrupt.

  • Time machine backup of connected external hard drive

    Morning all,
I've read through various posts regarding my question but most appear to be slightly vague for my understanding.
I have a 3TB TM with a 500GB external mac formatted hard drive connected via USB. This hard drive contains music and a couple of years photos that will eventually go into iPhoto once sorted but I'd like TM to back up this hard drive for the moment.
Upon entering TM Preferences and the Select Disk button, I have a list of backup drives that includes the external hard drive. The default backup disk is the TM.
What I cannot understand is how to get TM to backup this external hard drive using the preferences given to me?
Or, if, by default, this drive is being backed up, where are these settings listed?
    Many thanks
    Tim

I have a 3TB TM with a 500GB external mac formatted hard drive connected via USB.
Is the 500GB connected to the TC or the Mac?? I am lost but as I read that sentence the USB drive is plugged into a TC.. and the TM is a typo.. Time Machine is software on your computer.. Time Capsule is a hardware router with a hard disk,, in your case 3TB.
TM cannot backup network drives.. plug the 500GB into the Mac and it will automatically list in exclude on TM.. you have to remove it from the exclude list to be included.. it is kind of thinking a solid state physicist would use.. holes instead of electrons.

  • Failure to connect External Hard Drive.

I have a new External Hard Drive and am having trouble getting it to work. It connects via USB ( and is suitable for Windows and MAC). ....but when I connect and try to drag and drop to it a message comes up " the item '....' cannot be moved because the External HD cannot be modified"
I have enquired at the place where I purchased and they advised contacting MAC help in reformatting / initialise the Ext HD.

  • Trouble connecting external hard drive to AirPort Extreme

I now have my AirPort Extreme set up for my wireless network. But I have tried to connect my seagate 1TB powered external hard drive to the AirPort Extreme for file sharing via the USB port. But for some reason even though there's power to the hard drive it doesn't show up in airport utility or in my finder. Do you know how to fix this? It works perfectly fine and normal when I just plug the hard drive into one of my USB ports on my iMac. Can anyone help? Thanks

Connect the hard drive directly to your Mac and launch Disk Utility. Select the drive and click on the Repair Drive button. Once this has finished try connecting the drive again and then launch AirPort Utility and see if the drive shows up.
One thing I've noticed is that if the external drive has any directory errors it won't mount in AirPort.

  • AT100: can i connect external DVD drive & can I get a car charger?

I recieved one of these when my friend bought a laptop.
I have never used one before.
I've read all the literature and surfed the net but I'm still a bit confused. Both a newbie and older I'm afraid.
*1*-- I want to use it in the car for playing DVDs in the rear seat. Can I use the Toshiba external dvd drive?
*2--*Is there a car charging plug/adaptor or anything?
*3*--My stereo has bluetooth, USB and ipod access - what options are there for storing & playing music on the tablet via these
*4*- Is wifi possible? I have it already connected to my wireless modem; would I need a separate modem in the car?
Anything else I should know for maximising in-car use
Anyone with the patience to help me it would be a much appreciated Christmas present.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

    Hi
    > *1*-- I want to use it in the car for playing DVDs in the rear seat. Can I use the Toshiba external dvd drive?
No, you cannot connect an external CD/DVD drive to the AC100.
The USB port supports the external USB HDD (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) and USB flash memory (FAT12/16/32/exFAT) for data copy.
    > *2--*Is there a car charging plug/adaptor or anything?
Yes, google for AT100 Thrive car adapter. Otherwise you could order a comatibel part from ASP in your country.
    > *3*--My stereo has bluetooth, USB and ipod access - what options are there for storing & playing music on the tablet via these
Take a look in Android market and search for Android HiFi app.
But as far as I know if you want to stream a music from tablet to hifi equipment, both should be connected to the same network.
    > *4*- Is wifi possible? I have it already connected to my wireless modem; would I need a separate modem in the car?
    AT100 supports Wireless LAN

  • Connect External Hard Drive to Time Capsule?

    Hi,
I was told that I could hook up my 1TB G-Raid External Hard Drive to my Time Capsule for a totally wireless system. I have the EHD connected to the TC with a USB cable but my MBP does not see it; it does see the TC.
I was told that you cannot have two Time Capsules if you want to use one as a Time Machine and the other as an EHD, all the TCs have to have the same "job". I was instructed to buy 1 TC and 1 EHD.
What have I done wrong or was I given wrong information?
    Thanks!

    From wikipedia :
HFS Plus or HFS+ is a file system developed by Apple Inc. to replace their Hierarchical File System (HFS) as the primary file system used in Macintosh computers (or other systems running Mac OS). It is also one of the formats used by the iPod digital music player. HFS Plus is also referred to as Mac OS Extended (or, erroneously, “HFS Extended”), where its predecessor, HFS, is also referred to as Mac OS Standard (or, erroneously, as “HFS Standard”). During development, Apple referred to this filesystem with the codename Sequoia
I believe you want the "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"

  • Connection to network drive drops

Here's my info in case this helps anyone/Apple solve the networking issues with Leopard.
I have an Airport Extreme base station with an attached USB drive. My MBP is experiencing dropped connections similar to what others have. My Mac Pro doesn't seem to have a problem staying connected to the internet, but Firefox has slowed to the point where it's not even usable. Safari works fine. However, I frequently lose the connection between my Mac Pro and the attached network drive even though I am still able to access the internet through the base station just fine.
Changing the DNS setting on the Base Station to the OpenDNS DNS solved the Firefox issue.

No.  The problem will have to be resovled by Western Digital.   Many Western Digital drives have their own firmware which will need to be upgraded to meet standard.   Better would be to get a hard drive from http://www.macsales.com/ which makes every effort to maintain Mac compatible hard drives.
