Connect iphone to laptop
How would I connect my iphone to my laptop using WIFI? I want to be able to access the USB part of it, update my music, etc but over WIFI. Is that possible? So in a way it's like doing what you can do with a USB cable but over WIFI.

Unable to connect iphone to laptop
After updating to itunes 11.1, my iphone 5 has been unable to connect to my laptop through the USB cable. When I plug it in, a sound plays as if connected, but nothing shows up in either itunes or my computer. Before updating to itunes 11.1, my iphone was able to connect to my laptop. Only after updating and restarting the computer as recommended, did my iphone stop being able to connect.
My laptop runs on windows 8 and iphone runs on iOS 7.
I have tried restarting my laptop and iphone but to no avail. I am able to connect my iphone to another laptop, also running on itunes 11.1. I have tried 2 different cables to connect to my laptop and neither worked.

additional info: my friend use my laptop/ ITUNES to update her ios, that since then whenever i connect my Iphone it shows me her name!I know it sounds weird, and that is the reason I posted my question. Because my case is not like all the ones I've found online and it's confusing. I added a screen capture of my itunes with my old iphone (the one that houses my playlists) connected to it.
My playlists "ARE" in my iphone 4s. They are still there even though they do not show up when I plug in to itunes in my computer.
When connecting my phone to itunes on my macbook, the playlists do not appear anywhere in itunes. I have found my connected iphone icon, I have clicked on the arrow next to it and it does pull up the standard lists that come with the iphone/itunes: Music, Movies, TV shows, books. That's it! below that is "Genius" and below "Geniuns" is "PLAYLISTS" but the only playlist of mine that shows there is one that I created several years back titled "90's music" and that one I created it on my computer, not my phone. Under "90's music" there are also other standard playlists that itunes automatically adds.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to get around this. I am starting to think that I am going to have to recreate these lists on my computer -

I am unable to backup my iphone 5 iOS 6.0.1 (connected directly to laptop USB) with my itunes 11 for Win 7 64bits. The process starts and fails to complete giving the error: itunes could not complete backup of iphone because iphone disconnected.
I have restarted the PC, the iphone, changed the lightining cable and nothign resolves it: backup never completes.Hi, I disabled the antivirus and the firewall. Same result
I even deleted the backup folder inside C:\Users\...\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to eliminate any corruption in the old backup files.
Nothing changed: Session either times out or i get the same error message: itunes could not back up iphone because iphone disconnected. It always happens during step 3 out of 4 which is "transfering purchased apps from iphone to PC" and comes after step 2 which is backup.
My iphone 5 is not jailbroken, and is a factory unlocked phone.
Any other suggestion?

my iphone 4 wont connect to my laptop (windows 8) via usb but it will however register that it is there via 'photos' im not using the cable that came with my phone, does that affect the connection?

I want to delete a few contacts, apps, pics etc from my iphone, but when I delete and connect to my laptop they sync and come back again. How can I delete those items and not get them back when I connect my iphone to my laptop?

you'll see a pop-up and there's a tab called 'Devices' there. If you click that, you will be able to check a box that says 'prevent automatic syncing for iPods, iPads and iPhones' or something like that.

NB: if you don't even see the menu bar that has options like 'File, Edit, View, etc', first click the black/white square button on the top left of your screen, and then click 'show menu bar'. It should pop right up.

Everytime i plug my iphone 4s into my windows laptop, usually it comes up with a small box saying 'installing device' but now it comes up with a box saying 'usb device not recoginised'. i have 4 usb ports in my laptop and i have tried plugging my iphone into each one, but it comes up with the same message. After a while it will charge my phone and connect to my laptop but it wont connect to itunes.

You do not use a WEP password but wpa/wpa2 on router and equipment.
All equipment connects to WiFi, but for your iPad.
Even with all other equipment WiFi off, you cannot connect your iPad.
Your iPad connects to other WiFi nets correctly.
All resets etc done on iPad and Router.
Still I am not sure it is your router for sure, frustrating...
I want to test 2 other things:
1. in your iPad, set everything OFF in Settings/Cellular, turn off/then/on your WiFi, and see whether it will still not connect...
2. If that does not do it: disconnect the router as well as the modem from the power, for 15 seconds, then reconnect the modem, let it fully start, then reconnect the routet let it fully start, turn of your WiFi in iPad, then on, and see whether it will connect. -

Thnksssssss....So you are saying that you followed all of the steps in the support document for problems with connection, including removing and reinstalling iTunes? You do not say what you have tried, so it is hard to make recommendations. If this is the case, then you have tried resolving driver issues? What if you go to Device Manager and look for the iPhone. You should be able to click on it and see about drivers. You can update/reinstall the device driver.
