Connect ipod with new computer

I have an existing ipod classic with about 4,000 songs. I have downloaded iTunes to a new computer. Can I simply plug the ipod into the computer (Windows PC laptop) so that my Library and iPod will sync or is there another procedure?

Note that the iPod backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

Need help re-synching iPods with new computer and getting iTunes to recognize our iPods (it doesn't even recognize them when they're plugged in).
Hubby wiped my harddrive for me, so now I need to get everything back in proper places. I'm using windows XP and installed iTunes once again (I believe it's version 8). I also installed all of my iTunes songs. Now I need to know where to go from here. We have 3 iPods and I need to get them all synched once again. I know how to create different libraries for each of us, but I can't figure out how to get our songs back into our iTunes libraries. When I open iTunes and plug in an iPod, iTunes doesn't even show that an iPod is plugged in.
What do I do now to get each of our iPods synched with our own libraries?

Thanks Zevoneer. The "Restart ipod service" worked and itunes is now recognizing my ipod! Hooray!
Okay, now how do I synch all of our ipods with our individual libraries (I don't want all of my kids' songs and vice versa)? We each have hundreds of songs on our ipods that we don't want to lose.

Our old computer crashed which had all the kids ipod touch library on it. Now when I connect ipods to new computer it says I have to erase all the app, etc to sync with new computer. Is there anyway to sync to the new computer w/out losing all data?

Synching ipod with new computer and lost music

We just got a new computer and I finally got to hook up my ipod. I tried moving my songs from the ipod into itunes and they wouldn't transfer so now I am synching the ipod with the computer; however, I seem to have lost the original songs that I had on my ipod before I downloaded the new songs. Did I really lose my songs or are they there? If they are there, how do I find them?

If you syncronised your iPod with a new and different library it will have erased your original songs. You could have a look at this post for possible solutions but there's no real guarantee you'll get anything back: Buegie - Recovering Songs

So, a client of mine purchased a new laptop, and when syncing the ipod to the new computer with songs added to the new library, it says that the sync was successful, but the songs are not synced to the ipod. It syncs the time and date, but not the music. It will still sync properly on the old laptop. The ipod has been reset to factory settings and completely blank, and the songs still will not sync. I have contacted apple, and the only thing they can suggest is that there is a conflict with the drive letters since the music is located on a virtual network drive and windows does not take virtual drives into account when assigning drive letters to divices. I have not been able to verify this, but I will be going back to do some testing in the next couple days. Any information you may have to help would be appreciated! If I think of anything else I forgot I will come back and make another post. Thanks in advance.

I'm not really tech-savvy, but I'm tossing my old computer and getting a new one - is there a way to use my ipod on my new computer without erasing my existing library? It won't let me make changes to my ipod and wants me to erase everything that is on there right now - HELP!

This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually

Can anybody help. Iam ready to throw my ipod in the bin. I recently bought a new computer and downloaded itunes onto it. When I connect my ipod it keeps saying the ipod is linked to another itunes library and it displays a new itunes library on the computer now with none of my old songs, but they are still on my ipod itself. I do not have my old computer either.
The new itunes library that comes up will let me download music onto it but wont let me sync it to the ipod so i cant put anymore tunes on it. Any ideas?

I apologize in advance if this question gets asked all the time. I am trying to move all the music on my ipod to my new desktop. I am currently using my ipod as a HD on my new computer. I would like to be able to add the new songs i've downloaded on my new computer to my ipod, but i'm not sure if i can do that without losing all of my old songs.

my old dell just crashed. we got a brand new hp S2031 and my old computer had all mine and my sisters itunes stuff stored on it. itunes gives me a message saying my ipod touch 4G is synced with another computer and it gives me the option to erase and sync but I dont want to do that. is there any way to fix this? I just bought a new computer a few days ago. I went from a windows XP to a windows vista. I own an 8GB ipod touch. I authorized the computer and transfered my purchases already. Itunes keeps giving me the option to transfer purchases, or to delete and resync. If I delete and resync, I'll loose all my music that I got from CD's I borrowed from friends, which I don't have anymore since I returned them. It won't let me add the new CD that I bought today to my ipod. Is there anything I can do?

It is absolutely stealing. "They paid for it". You did NOT.
When you buy music (cd or download) you buy the right to personal use. It is absolutely stealing to distribute this music to others. Borrowing others cd's is EXACTLY what limewire is. Other distribute music that they bought to others.

Sync ipod with new computer - How?

My computer died and had been re config. therefore my old itunes does not exsist. I have installed v7 but when i connect my ipod I get the message " the ipod is synd with another itunes libary. I have transfered my puchased music to the new libary but how do I transfer all my tunes that were not purchased from the store.
I do not have access to my original itunes libary. Only have it all on my ipod.
Help!! I am pretty much a virgin user.

Yes that will erase the songs but it would be illegal file sharing to keep them anyways.
