Connect Mac Mini (Late 2012) to VGA?
Can I connect a Mac Mini (Late 2012) model to a VGA monitor? The Mini comes with an HDMI-to DVI adapter, so I can add a DVI-to VGA adapter to that, but I'm concerned whether or not an analog signal is passed through from the HDMI connection.

Mac mini late 2012 not working with small VGA monitor
I got a mac mini (late 2012 10.8.4 all updates installed) and it is working fine with samsung b2230 via VGA adapter. There is a small VGA monitor (PL8006 max at 1024*768) which works fine when connected to a PC.
When I connect the small VGA monitor to mac mini it is not displaying anything (monitor shows blue screen with letters VGA so I assue it is not getting any signal). Mac's resolution is set to 1024*768 with 60Hz (even tried with 800*600 without any success). Monitor is also not working with win 7 installed in mac mini using bootcamp.
Any thoughts?i just found that when the VGA cable of the small monitor is slightly inserted into the VGA adaptor it works fine (this is not usable because there is no way to keep the pins at that level) and when the pins inserted fully / moved little it is not working. Since this happens only between these two devices can't find which one is faulty.

Mac Mini Late 2012 OS X 10.9.4 loosing network connectivity
I haven't found the exact issue on the forums nor outside it so I'm creating a new thread.
My Late 2012 Mini started loosing network connectivity after upgrading to 10.9.4, both WiFi and Ethernet.
Sometimes it takes around 5 minutes, sometimes more than 30 but the connectivity gets disrupted continuously, the packets stop going in or out for around 30 seconds. I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've changed network locations, nothing helps and I've found nothing interesting in the system logs.
Also I can't login to the Apple bugtracker due to some error so I'm reporting it here.
The only USB devices i have connected are keyboard and mouse.
Any help will be appreciated.

OS X 10.9.4 MavericksPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Wow, this reminds me of what happened with Mavericks 10.9.0 until 10.9.3 and later were released and fixed this problem.
My monitor is a Dell S2440L connected to my Mac mini late 2012 via an HDMI cable.
The monitor goes blank randomly and sometimes a snowy screen like you would see when watching a UHF
channel on an old CRT TV shows up when the video comes back on. This happens while in the OS.
I also have power management problems again with computer not sleeping properly and my Magic Mouse
being able to wake up the computer despite "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" being unchecked.
I also have Wake for network access, power nap and start up after power failure unchecked as well.
Computer sleep and display sleep are set to "never" as I always had it with Mavericks.
These problems occurred after shutting down my Mac and restarting it this morning.
I know using a VGA cable will fix it but I don't want to do that.
Sorry for sounding frustrated but I'm not alone. So many people are having the same issue
of HDMI video blanking out while in the OS.
I love the look of Yosemite but wish I was back with Mavericks 10.9.5 where everything worked
flawlessly and I really mean flawlessly. It was magical. Not a single problem.
I guess we have to wait for 10.10.2 or 10.10.3.
I don't want to go back to Mavericks but if my screen keeps blanking out then my computer is of
no use for work or multimedia.
I'm sorry about the rant.
If anyone has figured out a workaround until Apple can issue another point release, please let me know.
I already tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM several times to no avail.
Thanks in advance.
I appreciate any help.

HDMI On Mac Mini Late 2012: Problem with hardware?
Just converted from PC to Mac.
Purchased latest mac mini (Late 2012 version)
Have tried several monitors through HDMI port and each time the picture quality is poor with very bad text resolution.
Have tried HDMI to HDMI and also tried HDMI to DVI adaptor.
This is with full 1080p 27 inch samsung monitor and HP 2010i monitor.
Is there a problem with the HDMI port on this new mac mini?
The monitors I have are fine and are crystal sharp when connected to PC.
Many thanks if you can answer thisOK. So I have now tried LG 27 Inch E2742 Monitor as follows:
1) Mini display to DVI-D : Picture good with decent text resolution
2) HDMI-HDMI: Picture poor with poor colour and text resolution. This is not a calibration issue.
The samsung monitor 27 inch series 3 also has poor picture and colour and text resolution with HDMI-HDMI. Again this is not a calibration issue. It does not have a DVI-D input to test the minidisplay port.
So it seems the HDMI port is not working properly but the minidisplay one is ok as I suspected.
From reading the other threads it seems this is a common problem including those people that have taken their minis back for an exchange and experienced same problem.
Is there likely to be a software update to resolve this? -
Mac Mini late 2012 turns on after electrical failure
Hi. I bought a Mac Mini (late 2012 model) with OS X Mountain Lion in November 2013.
I upgraded to OS X Mavericks.
I have not changed any of my Mac's settings. They are all on default settings.
Under Energy Saver, only "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" and
"Wake for network access" are checked. Nothing else is checked.
Nothing is scheduled to turn on.
What happens is I always put my Mac to sleep when I'm not using it.
I have my Mac, speakers, cable modem and LCD monitor plugged
into an expensive name brand 500VA electromechanical voltage regulator
to prevent power spikes and surges from damaging my computer.
There are electrical blackouts a few times a month and this happens
when the Mac is either sleeping or being used.
The blackouts last about 30 to 45 minutes when they occur.
When the power comes back on, approximately 5 to 10 minutes later
the Mac Mini turns on by itself. I hear that familiar startup
sound from the speaker and then it boots until it reaches the login screen.
I'm confused why it would turn on by itself.
I use cable internet but my cable modem was unplugged at the time.
My internet connection is a wired ethernet connection using a Cisco 2100
cable modem.
Barring the paranormal, what would cause it to turn on by itself?
I'm not using a UPS.. just a voltage regulator (line conditioner).
Thanks for any help. I appreciate it.Hi brody. I turned off printer and screen sharing.
I have a new problem related to sleep:
I put my Mac Mini to sleep using the menu and selecting "sleep".
Mac goes to sleep and you can see the LED on the front of the Mac
getting brighter and dimmer (as it always does when sleeping, no problem).
Problem was when I woke up 7 hours later the LED light was off, so
I thought there was another power failure but there wasn't because
my cable decoder box will switch from displaying the time to displaying
channel 1 if there's a power outage and power returns. However, it
still displayed the time so that meant there was no outage.
So, I figured it was not a power outage although we sometimes
get very brief (split-second) "brownouts" or blackouts.. they happen
so fast so I can't rule out that happening.
I tried pressing keys on the keyboard and clicking the middle button
of my Logitech mouse but no go.
Thinking the Mac had shut itself off, I briefly pushed the power button
on the back of the Mac.
Mac woke up with the login screen covered in a white haze with
|||||||||||||||||||||| at the bottom (like a progress bar).
That only lasted 15 seconds or so and finally the normal
login colors appeared and I could type my password.
So, the Mac was asleep but that behavior disturbed me.
1. Why did the LED turn off after being asleep for several hours?
2. Why couldn't I wake it from sleep using traditional methods (pushing a key/clicking middle mouse button)?
3. Why did the Mac wake up only by pushing the power button on the back?
4. What was the reason for the foggy white overlay that appeared when it woke up along
with a | | | | | | | | progress bar at the bottom of the screen for 15 seconds or so?
I ran an Apple Hardware Test by booting with the "D" key held down and it passed.
I also booted into Single User Mode and ran Memtest twice with no errors.
I really appreciate your help. My Mac is covered under AppleCare but I hope nothing
is wrong with it. I'd hate to be without my Mac even for a day. heh. :-)
Thanks. -
Constant DNS Lookup from New Mac Mini Late 2012 Model i7
Just bought a new i7 Mac Mini ( late 2012 )...my first mac....the wifi connection is way too slow comparing to its installed bootcamp Windows 8 that I installed on it afterwards.
I started to track the ip and port that got queries in Mac Mini, I noticed that those applications are querying ports every 0.1 sec...those are
rsResponderDNS - port 53
Gamed - random port
And many other applications.
My question is if Mac installed some applications that is like HP computers with HP framework that constantly sending tracking data and Ad tracking back to Apple or something.
Very disapointed with my first mac, I felt like I bought a HP mac...
Currently I setup firewall rules to block most of the ports from going out...the firewall interface is a bit confusing too....normally, it should block all incoming ports for home users since it is not a server, but based on the firewall interface it is saying that the rules setup is allowing certain incoming ports...why would I open any incoming ports? I need to restrict outgoing port. Furthermore, if you check off block all outgoing port, it blocks everything even though there are rules setup in the firewall as white list.It sounds like you installed something that used nsResponder, not rsResponder. Double check that.
https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/cocoa/reference/applicatio nkit/classes/NSResponder_Class/DeprecationAppendix/AppendixADeprecatedAPI.html
Says that part of code is deprecated on Mac OS X 10.8. Which suggests that you are using some old software expecting a code for nsResponder and can't find it in 10.8.
One software I know that will monitor network traffic is Little Snitch. But what I don't know is how to uninstall it. I would check with the developer of it, how to uninstall it before installing it, as it can slow down your network traffic even more. But at least it should be able to tell you what applications are attempting to network. -
Mac Mini late 2012 - Bootcamp 5.0 - USB 3.0 only working USB 2.0
Hi all,
last Friday I installed Windows 7 Pro on my Mac Mini late 2012 using bootcamp.
1st installation failed when choosing partition, restarted and everything installed correctly.
On the 2nd installation it installed the Bootcamp Suport Tools and after the mandatory reboot, no mouse or keyboard (non-Apple usb mouse and usb keyboard).
I did what I've read on the forums, entered Windows 7 in safe mode and uninstalled Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller, I gained access to windows, then I unziped the driver and using device manager I installed 2 drivers, so, I've got USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller and USB 3.0 Root Hub.
Connecting my usb 3.0 hard drive, it connects as a 2.0 usb device (my external drive turn a blue led with usb 3.0 and a white one with usb 2.0).
Was anyone able to use 3.0 devices at 3.0 speeds?
Am I missing any installation?
Thanks for the help,
Luís Miguel PinhoI have a Chronos Deluxe 240gb SSD in a Firmtek MiniSwap U3 enclosure on a 2012 MacMini 2.6/i7.
About 20% of the time, the drive appears on the "SuperSpeed" (SS) bus (5gb/s). The rest of the time, it appears on the "Hi-Speed" bus (480MB/s), often with a long time (≈2 minutes) before the drive mounts.
But if I hot-swap a 500gb 2.5" Hitachi Deskstar HD into the enclosure, I always end up on the faster SS bus within seconds.
Power: On the slower bus, I have 500mA available, 100mA required (typical); on the SS bus, I have 900mA available, 36mA required on the HD. I've tried having the enclosure also on its own 5V power adapter, but that makes no difference.
I've tried all ports on the back (with special preference to the one closest to the TB port), and tried attaching the USB cable into the enclosure last. Again, no sure-fire way can be found to get the SSD to consistently mount on the SS bus.
At one point, I thought actually using the TB port for something significant (drawing power) helped things, and I was more consistently on the SS bus then, but that's been debunked.
I even have tried this enclosure/SSD combo on a MBP 15" retina, with flawless SS connections.
Grasping at straws here, as is Firmtek support, who have been very helpful. Anyone experiencing similar issues? -
Mac mini Late 2012 starts USB 3.0 HDDs like USB 2.0 480Mb/sec
HI,
If I turn on my Mac mini Late 2012 with USB 3.0 HDD plugged on, the system reports that the HDD is working like USB 2.0, with speed up to 480Mb/sec.
But if I eject and unplug the HDD and plug it again the system reports that's working now like USB 3.0 SuperSpeed BUS, with speed up to 5Gb/sec.
Anyone has the same problem?
Apple, please fix it!!!

My mac mini late 2012 is having resolution problems?
My mac mini late 2012 is having resolution problems?
Tried resetting PRAM and SMC but still nothing works.
Sometimes is goes back to normal. But then suddenly when I startup or wake up from sleep it changes to resolution 800x600 and stays there..
I'm using my Thunderbolt port with my minidisplay port to vga, because i don't have a HD monitor.
Does anyone have a solution?Hmmm, not sure on the startup, but on the sleep angle...
Well first...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
Then maybe...
See if it's related to this...
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

"Why 2012 iMac/2012 Mac Mini won't Wake After Hours of Sleep (Hibernates/Powers Off)")
The sleepimage file still reappears even if never slept. Delete it (hibernate off, etc) - within minutes its back.

Windows 8.1 on Mac Mini late 2012
Hello,
I'm trying to put Windows 8.1 on my Mac Mini late 2012 (as my Windows laptop is dying) but I'm not getting anywhere.
What I've done so far:
Use BCA to use Win8.1 ISO and make the bootable USB, it reboots, "No available drivers"
Use BCA to make the bootable USB and then extract the contents of BC5 (from http://http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720), then use BCA again to partition the disk and reboot... again, "No available drivers"
How do I get Windows 8.1 on my Mac?
Kind regards
OmarI followed the instructions as described and I get:

I have a Mac Mini late 2012 version and i am trying to reset to factory setting.
Hello, I had a bought a Mac Mini late 2012 version a couple months ago, and after i tried to install "pro tool" on my Mac, and FAILED. my Garage band wouldn't open anymore. it only tells me "garage band quit unexpectedly" when i open it. I tried uninstalled it and reinstall it again, but it still won't work.
So now, I want to jus5 restore the whole Mac mini to factory setting and erase everything in it.
I had read some of the threads in the community, and the Mac mini late 2012 doesn't come with an OS disk.
Therefore, is there anyone can tell me how i would be able to rest the Mac Mini later 2012 version back to factory setting and erase everything in it?
Thank you very much!

Airplay mirroring on Mac Mini (late 2012) doesn't work, extended display does... What's going wrong here?
Details: OS X Yosemite 10.10
Apple TV 3rd generation, version 7.0
Switching Airplay on on Mac Mini works. It goes automatically on extended display mode. Switching to mirroring works for about 1 sec and then it switches back to extended display mode. On my tv screen i see my second desktop. Funny detail: it has the desktop background i used previously. Another funny detail: I had exactly the same problem when i used the previous versions of OS X and the Apple TV software...
Who can help, please!I also have been having problems with Airplay on my 2014 Mac Mini see Mac Mini 2014 Airplay Display Disconnect Bug?
I"ve also noticed that my Apple TV (3rd Gen) does not appear in the iTunes Airplay list on my Mac Mini whereas it does on my MacBook.
I've booked a call with Apple Support for next Sunday to discuss the issue.
If I get any useful info I will pass it on.
