Connect Mac OS 10.6 to canon ip3600 shared on windows XP home

I am trying to connect my Mac OS 10.6 to a canon ip3600 printer shared on windows XP home. I have read dozens of posts on this topic and tried dozens of solutions. Although the Mac will identify the printer and apparently connect, when I print nothing comes out of the printer. During my reading around the topic, I have come to the conclusion that my printer has a particularly troubled relationship with Macs. If there is anyone out there who has chosen the same configuration of products I would be extremely pleased to hear how they eventually established printing to the shared printer.

Unfortunately it is not possible to use the Canon MF series from a Mac when the printer is being shared by Windows. This is due to limitations of Canon's UFR2 driver for OS X.
But if your wireless router has an Ethernet port then you would be able to print from the Mac and from Windows if the MF4680 Ethernet port was connected to the Ethernet port of the wireless router. All the printer will require is an IP address, which the router can assign automatically (DHCP). If your wireless router does have an Ethernet port and you need information on how to set the MF4680 to DHCP then please reply.

  • Finder stuck "Connecting..." when attempting to access "SHARED" (networked) Windows PC

This problem frequently but randomly occurs on my iMac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6.8.
The Finder will become 'stuck' when I attempt to access a remote windows machine under the "SHARED" group.  When I click the "Connect As..." button, nothing happens, I receive no feedback other than the words "Connecting..." remain under the machine name.
This is despite the exact same share working perfectly moments before.
Once the Finder gets itself into this state, thats its, it will continue to remain "Connecting..." forever until I reboot the Mac which immediately fixes the problem.  I have tried exiting the Finder process using the "Activity Monitor" but this has no effect.
This is really rather irritating and happens every other day.  The problem is not with the windows share or network since as soon as I reboot the Mac the problem is resolved.
Any help fixing this without having to reboot would be greatly appreciated.

Still getting the same problems daily, can no-one help?  This isn't a one off thing, everyone in our office gets it intermittently, its (another) major Mac flaw.

    Hi Rolfus,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that your HP Photosmart 6510 will not print with your Windows 7 PC.
I would suggest going through this guide. Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Hope this helps, and have a good day.

  • Connecting IPod Touch gives a blue screen of death on windows xp home

    Hi,
I recently got a new ipod touch. I downloaded the itunes 9.1 and connected the ipod touch with my PC to configure it for the time first time. After connecting the machine detected it as a camera and then it gave me a BSOD.
I updated my machine with all the automatic updates from microsoft, even tried downloading and updating some patches manually but nothing worked out.
I searched the apple support pages and did the activities mentioned there but none seems to be working
I have no other USB devices connected on my machine, there are no webcams or printers attached to the PC
Any help is appreciated, I have been trying for last 2 days and finally gave up
    Thanks

Ta very much, Jason! That's useful to know.
These sorts of outdated-software clashes can hang around for the longest time. Back before you came on board, one of the common causes of BSODs was a version of Roxio Easy CD creator (5.0 I think ...) that wasn't actually compatible with XP. If you had it on board, it quite was plausible that you couldn't get your XP PC to boot ... but for some folks the problem lay dormant, and their first sign of trouble with it was when the PC had iTunes installed on it, and the PC started blue-screening if they plugged in an iPod, inserted a CD, or sometimes just tried to launch iTunes.
Used to catch in particular folks who had upgraded their OS from ME to XP.
Mercifully extinct or vanishingly rare now ... but it kept showing up for me here in 2005 through 2007 ...

  • Canon MF4320d, share from Windows XP Prof

Is it possible to get work a printer share from Windows XP professional with Canon i-SENSYS MD4320d (USB-printer)?
I've installed the printer to my Windows computer. All of my computers are connected to a AirPort which share's my internet. Of course windows laptop finds the printer very easy, but Mac OS X does not..
Sharing a windows USB-printer is a bit tricky with Mac OS, is there a way to get share work with this printer?

    Hi there,
Looking at the Canon UK web site, it shows this model uses the Canon UFR2 driver on OS X. This driver does not work at all on OS X when it is connected to a Windows share.
You mentioned that you had Airport. You may find the MF works better when connected to the USB port of the AE. Although I have experienced problems previously with a mates MF4150 that was connected via an Airport Extreme. It used an earlier version of the UFR2 driver and it never recognised the MF when connected to the AE's USB port.
If you can connect the printer to your Mac and then share it to the PC, then this may be a better solution for you.

  • Connect mac client to mac printer share across subnets

I need to share printers from a Mac.  I need to connect
Mac clients on different subnets to the Mac shared printers.  I installed
a Mac mini, connected to printers via HP JetDirect Socket (port 9100), and
shared them.  I was able to print from the Mac mini, and connect Mac
clients on the same subnet to the shared printers with Bonjour and print.
I moved the Mac mini to its intended location on another subnet.  I
immediately learned that Bonjour does not publish services across
subnets.  I could not find documentation on how to connect to a Mac shared
printer across subnets, but I did find some third party documentation (only some incomplete
documentation from Apple) on how to implement DNS-SD Service Discovery.  I
enabled DNS-SD and was able to publish the printer shares across subnets, but I
was still unable to connect to the printer shares from a Mac client.  I
found some third party documentation (none from Apple) on how to manually connect to a Mac
printer share by specifying the IP address of the server, specifying the CUPS
default IPP protocol, and the print queue name.  I was unable to connect
to the shared printers.  I receive ping replies from my Mac mini, and port
scan reveals that port 631 for IPP, CUPS default, is open.  Printer
sharing is configured so everyone can print. I am able to connect to the Mac
mini with VNC Screen Sharing.  I don’t see how this can be a network
    issue.
Macs don’t seem to like to connect to our Windows
shared printers because of our PaperCut software, and connecting Mac clients to
Windows printer shares and authentication is beyond the average user,
exacerbated by Macs not behaving the same as Windows when bound to an Active
    Directory domain.
I called Apple support, they escalated to Apple Enterprise
support.  Apple Enterprise support said they couldn’t help me beyond a
single network with no subnets, but Apple Engineering might be able to solve
    the problem for $695.
Why do I need to pay $695 to learn how to connect Mac
clients to Mac shared printers, something that should be easy and intuitive and
have documentation readily available?  Windows printer sharing is easy and
intuitive and documentation is readily available, and services are published
across subnets without have to implement DNS-SD.

Thank you for your reply.  I followed the instructions in the sybaspot.com site and in some of the included references to set up DNS-SD.  DNS-SD worked, but I couldn't connect the Mac client to the Mac shared printers.
    I also found http://www.papercut.com/products/ng/manual/ch-mac-printing-10-8-9.html#ch-mac-pr inting-10-8-9-sharing-printers.
I expanded my search and found this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13940, last modified May 8, 2014.  I started work on my project February 2014.  Apple Support could have told me about this document.
PH13940 says: "The computers must be on the same local network as your Mac".  Apple must not consider multiple subnets one network.
PH13940 says: "Printer sharing is for printers attached directly to your Mac. You don’t need to share network printers, because they are already shared on the network."
Apple must define "network printers" as any printer with a network interface.  Microsoft defines network printers as printers shared by another computer.  TCP/IP ports are local ports on a Windows computer, so TCP/IP connected printers are local printers that can be shared.  Multiple users on a Mac all see the same connected printers.  Multiple users on Windows all see the same local printers, but network printer connections can be different for each user.
Apple must not see any value in accounting for printing and assigning the cost to the user or department.  We need to account for printing and cannot have any users bypassing the system by printing directly to printers.  I have created Access Control lists on the printers to limit connections to the specific IP addresses of our print servers.
The documents about setting up DNS-SD and IPP connections must have assumed USB connected printers on a Mac.  The odd thing is that I was able to share a network printer from the Mac mini when the client Mac was on the same subnet.  Is PH13940 wrong?

Connecting MAC Air to Projector - which is better, hdmi, vga or usb?

HDMI is thje preferred digital replacemnt for older analog video standards, which your other choices use. It offers far higher signal and definition quality.
Apple has an adapter that is used with your Thunderbolt port/ Mini DisplayPort, if yours is equipped as such.
I've not had a problem with this. It is a Belkin.

To do what?  It's not clear from the question.
If you want to play iTunes library content on the unit you need to enable Home Sharing on both, have them on the same network and then look for your iTunes library under the Computer icon - iTunes must be running of course.
Communications can be blocked by firewalls or security software sometimes.
To factory restore a black AppleTv2 or 3 you connect it to the computer running itunes with a USB to microUSB lead alone and start itunes.

    Try these:

  • Connect mac pro to jetdirect 600N

connect mac pro to jetdirect 600N with the second ethernet port on the mac

This is how I've connected my Mac Pro to my JetDirect 300.
In the Network preference pane set Ethernet 2 up as shown (I didn't mess with anything under 'Advanced'.
In the Sharing preference pane select Internet Sharing and select your "Share your connect from'' port and "To computers using" port. Then select the Internet Sharing check box. I think this only needs to be done if you want to share your printer with others computers over your network but I'm not 100% sure.
Print a report from you JetDirect 600 to determine it's IP address (my JetDirect 300 does this by holding the Test button on top). Go to the Print & Scan preference pane and click on the '+' to add a printer, select IP, under Protocol select 'HP Jetdirect - Socket', and then type the IP address for your JetDirect 600. If you want give it a Name. It should automatically figure out the correct driver. Then click the Add button.
