Connect MacBook And Windows PC

my macbook connect to router with wifi. also my window pc connect to router with lan. in router DHCP enabled and configured. both macbook and pc show in DHCP clint list, but ping request from macbook not get windows pc, also can't connect macbook to pc. please help

So you want to share fikles back and forth between the 2 systems. to do that turn off the windows firewall or add the ip address the mac has to its list of allowed devices.
On the mac you have to enable Windows (SMB) sharing and put the mac in the same workgroup as what the windows system is using. If your windows pc is running windows 7 you need to disable the homgroup system and use the workgroup settings. Also you need a password set on the windows system so it can authenticate login from your LAN.

    i want to transfer files between the two, can i go from one directly to the other, or do i have to go through a router? and i dont got the windows xp laptop to recognize my macbook as a local area network but i dont know how to get my macbook to recognize the windows computer.

    Hi morningbrew,
    You may find iFelix's pages at http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/windowsxp.html helpful, especially the page about Filesharing between windows XP and MacOSX 10.4 . Should sort out your problem with getting the Mac to recognise the wondows computer.
    iFelix is a "regular' on the Mac boards, so if you still have problems try and track him down.
    You don't need a router - just a simple "straight" or "crossover" ethernet cable will do. (It doesn't matter which)

  • What is a good wireless printer that will work with a macbook and windows laptops?

    What is a good wireless printer that will work with a macbook and windows laptops?

    Any printer that visibly supports OS X will work fine. My personal recommendation is Brother, followed rather distantly by Canon.
    Recently I have grown to favor Brother printers over the others. They are inexpensive, their OS X integration is well-implemented, their consumables are reasonably priced, and their technical support is free forever. If you need to call them and explain that you have a Mac, you will immediately receive competent assistance.
    The third and subsequent choices are so far down from those two they're not worth mentioning. I have grown to dislike HP printers, for all the above reasons.
    Read user reviews from vendor websites - Amazon is a good place to start, since Amazon lets people write almost anything they want... right, wrong, or completely idiotic.
    Read the reviews on the respective manufacturers' websites as well, but consider the likelihood of them deleting negative reviews.
    Process all those user reviews employing your own common sense, and draw your own conclusions.
    Consider AirPrint compatibility for future needs. Those features add very little to the price over a USB - only or wireless printer. Understand that not all wireless printers are AirPrint compatible - AirPrint must be specifically indicated. Choose among this list: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
    After OS X compatibility, the next consideration should be the cost of consumables. Laser printers are cheaper than inkjets in that regard.
    Here is a list of AirPrint compatible Brother printers and multifunction devices

  • Connecting macbook to windows xp machine

    I have recently got a new macbook and am trying to transfer my files from my old xp machine onto the new laptop with a direct ethernet connection. I have tried to use Samba, but dont really know what I'm doing wrong- I've changed my workgroup name so they're both the same, but how do I find the Servername? My old xp is named laptop, and I have the IP address, but using smb://IPaddress/Laptop but it just says it cannot complete the operation because some data could not be read or written (error code-36) I have tried following the apple 101 instructions (as above) but can't work out where I'm gong wrong- can you help? Thanks

  • Connecting Macbook and Macbook pro to network...HELP!!!!

    Hello, I am writing to ask the advice of the many mac experts on this discussion forum site, I hope someone will be able to help, I am on the verge of chucking the laptops out the window...!
    We have 2 new apple laptops, a macbook, and a macbook pro, both are running the latest updates, and are all working perfectly. However when we try to connect to the wireless network, which is provided through a Dlink G604T wireless router, it wont accept the password for the network security. Following similar discussion questions online, I changed the security from WEP to WPA, which worked for one session online, then hasn't worked since on the macbooks (fine on windows laptops), so I then followed advice to change the SSID after changing the security, this followed, nothing works on the Apple laptops, they have no trouble finding the network, just when you type in the password, it says its an invalid password. We need this to work, hope someone can help!
    Thank you in advance,
    Dave

    hi david,
    don't know if d-link had improved airport compatibility with the G604T but I had issue with my di-624. I found on d-link web site a recommendation to use WEP-hex in order to maximize compatibility of d-link/airport. i had no issue since then.
    hope this help!

  • MacBook and Windows 7

    Hey guys! I managed to grab a hold of a second hand MacBook and upgrade it with a 320GB Hard disk, it all went smooth, I had to borrow someones Snow Leopard disk as the MacBook didnt come with one. But i wanted to install Windows 7 to a 30GB partition, so i fired up Bootcamp and formatted the 30GB partiton as NTFS and windows 7 installed perfectly, or so i thought. Sound doesnt work, iSight doesnt work, among other things but my main concern is sound and iSight. Google tells me i need a Snow Leopard install DVD to get the drivers off of. Is this correct? I've downloaded the latest realtek drivers and they dont work either. Device manager reports "Error - The device cannot start (Code 10)" as for iSight, well i cant find a driver anywhere for that.
    Windows 7 details:
    Microsoft Windows 7 32Bit operating system
    Mac Details:
    MacBook
    Snow Leopard 10.6.4
    2Ghz Intel Processor (Core 2 duo i believe)
    2GB RAM
    Intel GMA 950 - 64MB
    -Any help would be appreciated.
    -Thanks

    Wow i did not know it was illegal to install Snow Leopard from someone elses DVD. I will however go purchase a copy. But i did try installing XP and everytime the setup got to "Setup is starting windows..."
    it would crash with
    PROCCESS1INITIALIZATIONFAILED.
    If this is the first time you've seen this stop error........etc.
    Apparently the stop error code (STOP: 0x0000006B...etc) has something to do with roxioGoBack or something. Google wasnt really helpfull.

  • Can't Connect MacBook and MacBook Pro at same time to AEBS

    I can't connect a MacBook and MacBook Pro to an Airport Extreme Base Station at the same time. Whichever one connects first works and the other one doesn't. It was working fine for months and then stopped working. Can only use one computer at at time. There's nothing else on the network. It may have been a software update that caused the problem, but I'm not sure which one. Have done all software updates and am not using any security on the network, so that's not the problem. Many sleepless nights trying to get this fixed, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Do me a favor. So many users are experiencing this (no myself though) and I have suggested so many things with nothing constantly working. There are successes here and there, but nothing consistently solves the problem. However, try the following in Airport Utility and both Macs, and then let us know what happens.
    *Can’t Access Certain Web Sites / DNS Server Settings Issues*
    I'm wondering if either or both Airport Utility & Network Prefs have proper DNS server settings. Try this
    Launch Airport Utility.
    Select TC on left.
    Click "Manual Setup".
    Select "Internet" from the toolbar above.
    What's listed for "DNS Server(s):"?
    Try putting in these servers from OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click "Update".
    Your TC will restart with the new settings.
    Next, launch System Prefs --> Network Prefs.
    Select the service you usually connect with on the left (Airport or Ethernet).
    Then click, "Advance..."
    Click the "DNS" tab.
    What's listed for "DNS Server(s):"?
    Usually "10.0.1.1" will be listed first in gray. This refers back to the settings in the Airport Utility.
    Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to add the DNS servers noted above here as well.
    Click "OK" then click "Apply".
    Finally, reboot your Mac.
    Now see if you have internet access all around.
    Let us know if this resolves your issue.
    Cheers!

  • MacBook and Windows XP

    Hello.
    I have a stock program software which only works on windows.
    I used to have Japanese Toshiba Dynabook and used it until last year.
    Now, I want to install it to my macbook, but I realized that I cannot use it even if I have microsoft office for mac.
    How can I make my MacBook like Windows environment?
    I hope somebody helps me out.
    Mahalo.

    Hi Mahalo,
    right now you can use Apples BootCamp: http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
    or Parallels: http://www.parallels.com/
    or VMWare Fusion: http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/
    or Codeweavers Crossover: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
    When Leopard (OSX 10.5) comes out, it will contain an updated version of BootCamp.
    Simply said, all you need is a "bona fide full version of Microsoft Windows: XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2, WIndows Vista Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, or Ultimate. (No upgrade or multi-disc versions)".
    And it should be a 32-bit version of Windows, although chances are that with Leopard 64-bit versions will be also supported.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • MacBook and Windows

    Hey,
    I have been browsing the forums, particularly this section for quite a while now. Some information has been useful, but I kind-of need some specific advice now.
    I've been a Windows user since May this year when I got the new 2.4GHz MacBook. Mac OS X is fantastic, and the sleekness and features the MacBook provides makes me want to stay up all night just to play with it. But I've probably spent £150+ on games throughout the time I used Windows, and it would be a shame to have all my old favourites lieing around useless. So this is where the situation begins.
    I have 160GB on my MacBook (Considering an upgrade to 320GB), and I have allocated 25GB to my Windows XP. No problems with Boot Camp or anything, but I need to run my games on Windows. I have the following games on my Windows XP and they work flawlessly:
    - Trackmania United Forever
    - Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
    - Some old GameHouse games I collected
    - Deus EX
    - Forsaken
    - Call Of Duty
    It all sounds well and good, but I want to futureproof myself and install Vista on the MacBook. I used to have Vista Ultimate on a 30GB partition on there, but I recently found myself with no space left. With Vista though, Half Life 2 and Counter Strike: Source were working brilliantly, Age Of Mythology installed, and the Sims 2 was working great. Three of my favourite games no doubt, but Vista takes up so much space I could never have them all on. I was wondering if I should put Vista Home Premium on my MacBook and allocate more space to the Boot Camp partition, that way I might have more space to live with. But then arises the problem of possibly not having enough space on OS X. Ahh!
    Any ideas?
    Sorry for the long post, but this is a big problem for me (I'm installing games for my holiday on saturday)
    Regards,
    Alex

    Apple has stated that they will not go out of their way to prevent people from running Windows on Macs with Intel processors. That said, there are plenty of design decisions that could have been made that didn't "deliberately" break Windows compatibility, but nevertheless made it very difficult to run Windows. I don't think, for example, that running a dual boot Windows/OS X Mac will ever be as easy as running a dual boot Windows/Linux PC. Installing Windows on a Mac will likely be nontrivial, and Apple certainly won't provide technical support for it.
    Short version: no one really knows yet.

  • Can I sync one iPhone via two computers (MacBook and Windows XP) using iTunes?

    My idea is the following:
    Sync one iPhone using iTunes installed on two computers:
    from Windows XP:
    * Outlook 2010 contacts
    * Outlook 2010 calendar
    * music
    from MacBook:
    * contacts
    OR
    from Windows XP:
    * Outlook 2010 contacts
    * Outlook 2010 calendar
    from MacBook:
    * contacts
    * music
    Can I do this?
    How would I have to do the set-up?
    Additional question: Can I buy apps from iTunes App Store on either of the two computers and having them downloaded automatically on the iPhone?

    You can't. You can only sync with one library at a time. I is possible, though not recommended, to sync contacts with one computer and media with another. There is no way to sync contacts with more than one computer.
    The best idea would be to sync it with your MacBook and the cloud, and sync Outlook on the PC with the cloud.
    Since iCloud requires Windows 7, you would probably be best to sync contacts and calendars with Google or Yahoo.

    Hello, the OfficeJet 6500A E710 is a ethernet only product.  The OfficeJet 6500A Plus has wireless support.  Since the printer's front panel network settings do not have the wireless options, I suspect you do not have the Plus model and that is why you cannot setup wireless.  Do you have the 6500A Plus or 6500A?

  • Timing difference between Macbook and WIndows system

    I uses a web content management system for my website which was developed in windows, IE and firefox compatible. I notice that if I open up the website in a Macbook Pro, the system time is always 8 hours ahead of Singapore time although the Macbook time settings is set locally. I use firefox, safari, IE5, same result. Which means whatever contents I saved only appears 8 hours later. I use Windows IE or firefox and it works just fine. I don't think is the CMS system problem. I thought it might just be on this Macbook, I got someone to try it out using another Macbook, same result, 8 hours ahead. So it it something about the Macbook settings?
    na   Windows XP Pro

    Hi Keonigt,
    There are definitely hardware differences between the MacBook and its bigger sibling the MacBook Pro. You pointed out the first difference of screen sizes. Another perhaps obvious difference is the MacBook Pro's external construction is aluminum as opposed to "plastic". Another difference which may affect performance is that the MacBook Pro utilizes dedicated Video RAM as opposed to the MacBook's sharing it's VRAM with its RAM. This will affect gaming and other graphic intensive applications.
    Depending on your needs and objectives - these differences will affect your decision. Of course, both are fantastic machines.
    Good luck.

  • Connecting airport extreme to macbook and windows 7 desktop

    Hello,
    I currently connect my macbook to the internet via airport extreme wifi.  I tried to also connect my windows 7 desktop to the airport via ethernet, but the PC is saying I have no internet connection.  Are there any configuration / settings  I need to adjust in windows 7 to allow me to connect properly?  I am a novice when it comes to home networking.
    Thanks

    Does your Desktop also have wireless? If so, Windows 7 configures wireless by default. You may need to set up the wired LAN settings in Windows 7. This is a guess because the several times I've installed Windows 7 on my Mac Pro it always set up the wireless by default. Until I removed the wireless setup it wouldn't let me connect via Ethernet. Apparently Windows 7 gives priority to wireless.
    I'm no Windows 7 expert but this has been my observation.

  • Printing to a C3180 printer wirelessly from a macbook and windows XP PC

    OK, this is crazy. I followed the steps ifelix outlined in his links, and much to my satisfaction, everything worked great.......for about a week. Suddenly, I cannot print to the HP anymore from either the macbook wirelessly (I get the 10.0.1.1. is busy message), or the windows XP PC connected to the Airport! If I attach the printer directly to each computer, it functions fine. Any thoughts? I cannot understand why it worked for a while and then suddenly..poof!

    Have you tried deleting from Printer Setup and re-Adding?

    Hi chim:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    I assume you are connecting the two computer through a router. Try installing Bonjour for Windows on your XP, and make sure you have the proper file sharing active and drives shared on the Windows Machine.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows103.html
    Also, don't forget the built in firwall in windows may be blocking it as well.
