Connect MacBook mid-2009 to TV via S-Video

Previously, I had a Mac Mini 1.66 GHz Core Duo connected to my TV via a DVI-to-video adapter, which has an S-Video output:
http://store.apple.com/nl/product/M9267G/A
I've sold the Mac Mini and bought a MacBook white, mid-2009. Wanting to connect the MacBook in the same way, I've bought a mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter. However, the DVI-to-video adapter has a couple of pins extra, which make it impossible to connect to the mini-DVI-to-DVI adapter.
How can I connect my MacBook white to my TV, which has a S-Video input?

Hi, i am buying a Dell monitor. Here is a link and the name of that monitor from a friend.

I have a 13'' Macbook (Mid 2009) and im going to try and connect that computer to that monitor. I bought a mini-DisplayPort to DVI adapter (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1NTE) but it only got the screen to the 1280x800, like the 13'' inch is set to. I'm asking if it is possible to connect that monitor via Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB571Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4MzU1ODY)
Both the Monitor and the cable are very expensive so i would apprisiate if you could tell me anything about them.

1280 by 800 is the highest possible resolution for a 30-inch display on a single-link DVI connection.

  • Help Connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to my new YAMAKASI CATLEAP Q270 SE 27" LED 2560X1440 WQHD DVI-D Dual Computer Monitor.  I am not having a lot of luck.
    My machine:
    OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
Processor:  2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I am trying to connect it using the:
Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    DVD-D HDMI cable

    Here is what is happening.
    1. I connect the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter + HDMI Cable to Monitor
    2. Main monitor powers up like it is trying to display
    3. Laptop Monitor displays second part of desktop
    4. I can never get the Yamakasi to display a picture
Here is what I have tried:
    1. Different HDMI-D cables
    2. ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    3. Zapping the P-Ram
    4. Powering monitor with laptop closed
    5. Forcing the system to see the second monitor
    The nearest I can figure:
    - The laptop does see the catsleap (it displays resolutions I can set it to)
I am completely stumped, I was hoping someone could advise me.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Hey Kytarx,
I found the winning combination this weekend.
    I tried:
    - Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    - ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    - Monoprice Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter
    My experience:
    - Altona didn't work at all, and their support claimed it would not.
    - Monoprice didn't work to Dual DVI, it did work to HDMI (great price I wish it did)
    - Apple Mini Displayport adapter did work, but would only work with certain USB + Display port combos.
The thing that was tripping me up was that two of the Dual DVI-D cords were bad.  Once I found the working cord, it was easier to find the working adapter.  The experience I did find to be a frustrating / expensive one. However, the Monitor itself is beautiful.
    Hopefully this helps someone else..

  • How do I connect my mid-2009 Macbook pro to my HDMI television and get sound?

How do I connect my mid-2009 Macbook pro to my HDMI television and get sound?

Use a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable to connect the computer to the proper HDMI port on your computer — the one that is paired with the separate RCA audio inputs (see the TV's manual for this information). And connect the headphone port on your MBP to those inputs with a cable that has a 1/8' stereo headphone plug on one end and two RCA plugs on the other. You'll also need to select the proper HDMI input in the TV's menu system, and you may have to select the headphone port as the audio output in the Sound pane of System Prefs on the Mac (or it may be selected automatically).

  • No audio from HDMI Macbook mid 2009. Solution through Apple TV?

    Hi all,
I have recently bought a nice Philips Smart-TV 46PFL4208T. I planned to directly use the TV to watch Flash or Sillerlight containts, without the needed of connecting the laptop. Unfortunately, the Philips software for Smart-TV is not yet mature and it does not support not Flash nor Silveright.
This means that I must to connect my mid 2009 MacBook pro to the TV. That way I would just use the laptop capabilities of reading Flash/Silverlight and project them stratigthly into the TV through the HDMI connection. So,  I went to the Apple Store and I bought a straight cable MiniDisplay-HDMI (paid around 50€). Unfortunately, the audio does not work. I read around and it seems that my latptop is too to support audio HDMI and that there are no turnarounds for this issue.
So I was thinking to return the cable and get an Apple TV instead, but I don't know if Apple TV can be used for my goal. Could you please let me know and/or provide any suggestion to solve my issue?
    Best,
    Ubaldo

Yeah, just opened a discussion there, only for curiosity.
At this point instead of buying an Apple TV, I may keep my HDMI cable to connect to the TV an then I may just connect an audio cable from the heaphones out of my laptop to the TV or to an external loudspeaker. That way I would have everything mirored on the TV as well. I think I will adopt this solution while waiting that the Philips guys release a good software for their TVs.
Moreover, considering that I will just run some TV from some TV website, it is not important really to have laptop mobility (i.e. wireless), since it will standing on a chair while I am comfortably watching some nice TV show laying of the sofa
So, no points to get an Apple TV (I don't even need its smart functions, having already a smart-tv).
    Thanks anyway for the answers.

  • HT201180 What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

USB is the slowest. Firewire is faster. eSata is the fastest (and will be superceded by Thunderbolt).  The old Fire was 4 pin (Firewire 400 and is essentially obsolete), new is 9 pin, Firewire 800.  All of the will transmit data, simply a different speeds.
For eSata connectivity, you MBP must have an express card slot (and the appropriate eSata connection card) and you external enclosure must have an eSata input.  eSata cables will only transmit data, therefor it will require power by Firewire or USB cables.
    Ciao.

  • How to set up my macbook mid 2009 osx leopard to mountain lion?

I was just given a MacBook mid 2009 Serial# MC240LL/A and it was master reset so its on Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and i need to get it to the latest software possible, but there is no app store and itunes doesnt work please HELP!

To get to Mountain Lion you are going to have to first get Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6.8) which has the App store. You can purchase this on disk from Apple but you have to call them directly. 800-MY-APPLE in the USA.
Be sure you meet the hardware requirements for Mountain Lion before you do this. Note that 2GB of RAM is a bare minimum and 4 would be much better. According to some sources your MacBook will support up to 6GB, though Apple says 4 is the limit.

hi i am currently using a white macbook mid 2009 with 10.6.8 version and i wanted to upgrade it to yosemite? So wanted to know if it would be alright?

    Hi Shubham Nahar,
The system requirements for Yosemite are listed here.
How to install OS X Yosemite on your Mac
Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8, already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available disk space
I don't have that Macbook, so maybe others can chime in as well.
    Take care,
    Nubz

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. From here you can upgrade to Yosemite by re-downloading it from the Purchases page in the App Store.

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect Macbook Pro (2009) for a presentation via projector.

When I connect my Macbook Pro (2009 model) using a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter to display a presentation via projector, only the top-left portion of what is displayed on my Macbook Pro's screen is displayed on the projector, as though I zoomed in on that portion of my screen. The projector is on and the adapter and the cable that connects the adapter to the projector machine is correctly connected. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

  • Macbook mid 2009 with OCZ Agility 3

Hey, I just get my OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD with 6GBps. I just get it into my MacBook 5.2 mid 2009 and tryed installing Snow Leopard, but it doesnt shoes the drive when I want to select where to install OS X 10.6 and neighter in the Disk Utility, but it gets recognize in the System Profiler. Any one may have a clue for me or does it just not support that ssd?
    Greetings

I had the same problem, but I'll describe it in greater detail, and provide the solution that worked for me.
    Problem:
I tried installing an OCZ Agility 3 240GB SSD in a 2009 13" Macbook Pro 5,5 with EFI 1.7.  The Snow Leopard DVD installer did not list the drive as an available drive for installation.  Using Disk Utility from the installation DVD did not list the SSD.  System Profiler on the DVD did see SSD.  Formating the SSD from a USB enclosure did not help.  The SSD was successfully initialized with a journalized HFS+ partition using a USB enclosure, but when connected to the SATA controller, the drive was still not detected.
    Solution:
I upgraded the firmware on the SSD from version 2.11 to 2.13, and that fixed the problem.  Some notes on upgrading the firmware:
The firmware is upgraded using a Linux distribution available for download on the OCZ web site.  You need to burn an ISO image file to a CD, or extract it to a bootable USB drive.  It will boot on Intel Macs.
An Internet connection is required by the firmware updater, but it didn't support the wireless hardware in my Macbook Pro.  I had to use a wired connection.
It's not documented anywhere because it's presumably common sense, but your SSD should be connected to the SATA controller when performing the firmware upgrade.
The firmware updater only took a few seconds to run
    http://www.ocztechnology.com/ssd_tools/OCZ_Vertex_2,_Vertex_LE,_Agility_2/
Hope that helps someone.  It took me a while to figure out.

  • MacBook (Mid 2009) won't turn on after installing software updates.

My macbook white (mid 2009) won't turn on. I was going to install mountain lion so I performed a software update. I click install and reboot. It installed within a few minutes, but when it was rebooting the apple logo and the buffering sign popped up, and that went on over night. So I held down the power button to turn it off. It did the same thing, what should I do?

Not the right time to update and go to sleep. What updates? How much free space was on the hard drive?
Try inserting the OS installer disk in the optical drive and powering up holding down the c key.
