Connect macbook pro and imacac shows up in the finder window under shared b

I have turned on file sharing on both. My imac shows up in the finder window under shared but the macbook won't connect. Is there something else i need to do?

Right clicking gives me two choices 'Open in new tab or Get Info' Clicking get info opens a window with the name as above says the Kind is a PC with continual fetching for more info. Finder window has a picture of an old Monitor with a blue screen. Clicking on it says Not Connected, I can't delete it or do anything with it.

Yes it appears to be something on the network, however I haven't added any devices and don't own any PCs! I've had the same network configuration for some time - this device has just appeared.
I was hoping someone else might have seen this device ID before as I certainly did not add it knowingly.

not sure if you found an answer to this. I just got a mb pro and want it to connect to my imac (late 2009). I set up sharing on hte imac, file sharing and dvd/cd sharing. from the mbpro i simply went to finder>go>connect to server. I entered the name as on my imac (xxx.local) and immediately connected. This was a massive help to me as I had some software (aperture, office for mac) that were on drive and the new mbpro doesn't have a disk drive. through sharing I could access the disc drive remotely via my mbpro and load the software that way. worked beautifully on my wifi (which is apple airport extreme).

It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro. When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device. I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer. Any ideas?

The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem. Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page. Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers

The simplest operation your Mac can do is start up with the Option key held down. The code is all in ROM. It uses a One size fits all resolution to light up the display and draw an icon for each potentially bootable Volume.
The most effective thing your Mac can do when confused is to start up using the Shift key. It does one pass of Disk Utility "Repair Disk" then boots up with minimal extensions loaded and ask you to login. But if your Mac is really sick, it may never get there.

Its no longer visible to the user. You can go to the folder by using the Go to Folder using username/library using the go to folder option to the right of the Finder labeled Go, then Go to Folder. Then you can see the contents of the user library folder.
