Connect MacBook Pro with Mini DisplayPort to TV?

I have a 15" MacBook Pro with the Mini DisplayPort outlet. I used to have a PowerBook which I was able to connect to my TV via the video adapter. No such adapter is included with my MacBook. How can I connect it to my TV to view videos, movies, tv shows, etcetera?

You only need a cable from MBP to Display, i.e. Mini DisplayPort Male to HDMI Male Cable

It's only $9.95.
But you know, until now Mini DisplayPort can not output audio but only video. As far as I know Cable Matters Inc. has solution for audio output. If you want high audio quality Mini Displayport Male and Toslink Audio/USB Male to HDMI Female Adapter is good for you since it supports 5.1 Channel audio.

The price is $47.95, a little expensive. You will need another HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to the TV/Screen.
If you don't require high quality audio this is an alternative Mini DisplayPort Male and USB Male Audio to HDMI Female Adapter.
Link: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-24-32-mini-displayport-male-and-usb-male-audio-to -hdmi-female-adapter.aspx
The price is cheaper for $37.49. You will also need an HDMI to HDMI cable from this adapter to your TV/Screen.

So of course you've corrected the title : "What is the right PLUG to connect my macbook pro to my TV ?"
OK so a bit more info : my TV is a Sony Trinitron TV.
It has the yellow/red/white plugs. I don't believe it has anything more sophisticated or recent than that.

  • Re:  Not getting audio from TV when connecting MacBook Pro with all correct cables.

How do I get audio from the TV when connecting MacBook Pro with all the correct cables?

    Hi Lynn,
If you're positive you have the correct cables, and positive they work, they must be plugged into an input on the TV made for that purpose, then that input must be selected on the TV's menu.

  • How to connect an older MacBook Pro with mini VGA port to HDMI?

I have an older MacBook Pro with a female mini VGA port.  I would like to watch movies which have been downloaded to my laptop on my flat screen TV.  Newer MacBook Pros have a mini DisplayPort for which Belkin makes a cable to use; however, I have not been successful in finding either an adapter or converter to use with my older laptop.
FYI.  Am currently using Leopard but am upgrading to Snow Leopard.

I believe you naeed the Apple ADC to DVI adapter.

  • How to connect macbook pro with hdmi? any ideas?

    hi,
as the new macbook, doesn't have a dvi port but a faste thunderbols my good old dvi2hdmi cable is useless.
any ideas, how to connect the new macbook to my hdmi tv?
    thx for help!

    Retina has a HDMI port.
Others have a ThunderBolt, which is backward-compatible with Mini DisplayPort. Get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and make sure you insert it until essentially ALL of the metal end is inside the jack, and you will be in business.

  • Help with Connecting Macbook Pro with LG AX355

So I recently bought the newest Macbook Pro with OS X 10.5.2. I also just picked up the LG AX355 model cell phone and have been trying to pair the two together to send files from my Mac to the cell phone.
So far, I have been able to pair the items without any problems. However, when I attempt to send a .mid file to the mobile phone, it connects and then gives me an error message on the phone that says File Transmission Failed and an error message on the Mac that says "The file transfer failed: the connection failed."
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have enabled the Bluetooth sharing already under my settings. Anything else I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well the very first time I paired the device with the wizard, it told me that I had the option to connect to the Internet via the bluetooth connection I think? As though using the Mac, I could get online with my phone.
However, when I ran the wizard for the second time, it says I don't have any services except that a computer serial port was created. So, under the Bluetooth preferences pane, I see my phone and under services it says: OBEX Object Push.

  • How do I  connect MacBook Pro without mini-display port to my HDMI TV?

I have a MacBook Pro computer purchased around 2008. I want to connect it to my Panasonic HDMI TV; however, this MacBook Pro doesn't have a mini-display port. Is there a work around? I would like audio & video.
Thanks so much in advance for any help.

You will need a [DVI-to-HDMI adapter|http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902&pid=2029&seq=1&format=2], a standard HDMI cable to connect the adapter to your TV set, and an audio cable with a headphone plug on one end to connect to your MBP's headphone port and two RCA plugs on the other to connect your your TV's audio inputs. I know of no way you can get audio into the HDMI cable.

  • Best Way to Connect MacBook Pro (without Mini Display Port) to HDTV?

    Hello,
Although I am fairly confident that I know at least one answer to this question, I thought it would be best to pitch it to the members of Apple communities, just to see if there is a better way to get to where I need to go. I have a MacBook Pro that I bought in July of 2007 for college. At this point, I know that it is fairly out of date, but I'm reluctant to throw down another three grand for a new one until I absolutely need to. Anyway, I want to connect it to my HDTV to play movies, games, etc. As this is an old model of the MBP, the Mini Display Port is not available. I do, however, have an Apple DVI port, as well as the (then included) Apple DVI to VGA cable/converter. Now, I know that VGA cannot transfer sound, but I think that DVI can. So here's my problem. If I create a bridge of wires to my HDTV, would sound come through? My idea is this: connect Apple DVI to VGA, then have a VGA to DVI converter, then have a DVI to HDMI cable, which connects to my HDTV. With all of those connections, however, I'm worried that something will go wrong along the way, and it won't work out. What I really need is an Apple DVI to HDMI cable, but I'm pretty sure those do not exist.
Anyway, I was just looking for any feedback that anyone has. Thank you in advance!
    Best,
    Daniel

    Hey tjk,
    Thanks for the response.
Do you have any recommendations for a potential set up? The audio output and Apple DVI are on different sides of my MBP, which is alright, I guess I can get two long cables to handle each. I was hoping to just have my MBP closer to where I use it, with a cord nearby plugged in on one side to the HDTV and resting near where I keep my MBP for when I want to use the HDTV as an external monitor.
With a converter like this, you can run video out of the MBP's DVI port, and miniToslink (optical) audio out of the 3.5mm stereo mini jack to the converter, then it will combine the two and output audio and video through HDMI to the monitor.
    http://www.supermediastore.com/product/u/apogee-dvi-to-hdmi-converter-spdif-opti cal-toslink-coaxial-input-output?utm_source=cj&utm_medium=aff&utm_content=HDMI+A ccessories
Otherwise, depending on the TV's inputs, for video you could run DVI to DVI on the TV, or DVI to HDMI to the TV. For audio you could run 3.5mm stereo mini plug from the MBP to RCA adapter on the TV. Toslink/optical is also an option.

  • Connect macbook pro with iphone 5 via bluetooth

I have macbook pro and Iphone 5 both have bluetooth turned on. When I go in to Macbook Pro I can see my Iphone 5. When I go into my Iphone 5 it shows as discoverable and searching.....What am I doing wrong? The Macbook won't connect and sync with Iphone and vice versa unless I have a usb cable attached.

    Hello bstaab,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  To wirelessly sync your iPhone with iTunes, you need to be connected using a Wi-Fi network.  I found an article that has the steps outlined on how to sync your iPhone wirelessly with iTunes:
    Wi-Fi syncing
    Open iTunes
To set up Wi-Fi syncing, connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable. Select your device under Devices on the left-hand side.
In the Summary tab, select "Sync with this [device] over Wi-Fi".
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it. The iOS device will sync automatically when all of the following are true:
The iOS device is plugged in to power
iTunes is open on the computer
The iOS device and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network
While the iOS device appears in the left-hand column of iTunes, you can select the content tabs and configure sync options.
Click Apply or Sync to sync the iOS device.
You can find the full article here:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes

    I hope this helps!

  • How can i connect macbook pro with iphone 4 via bluetooth?

I`ve connected iphone with macbook pro few weeks ago for i-net surfing, but i had to use cable. Now i wanna try icloud, and i`ve faced that trouble. My mbp sees iphone, makes pair, but fails to connect it. If i try it with iphone, a message "mbp cant be connected, it isn`t connectible device"-something like this- appears and mbp disappears from known devices list. How can i solve that?
    MacBookPro8,3 (17")-june 2011
    Boot ROM:          MBP81.0047.B1E
    SMC:          1.70f3
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    iphone 4 16 gb
    model MC603ZA
    ios 4.3.5 (8L1)
    boot rom 04.10.01

I have somehow the same problem. I just bought the new iPhone 4S and tried to connect it to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6, latest version, model 2011). The Phone did not see the Mac but the Mac the Phone, so I connected the Phone via Mac.
It worked for about 5 seconds, but then I got this error message:
It's German and means that the network is not available.
Of course I tried again to connect, but I now get always this error:
It says that the device is not available...
I deleted the iPhone from the list under Mac and tried again, but it's still the same.
No my Questions to the community:
Why does the iPhone not see the MacBook?
    Why does it allways disconnect?
Is Sync not possible via Bluetooth?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Connecting MacBook Pro with Pioneer A4 WiFi speaker

I have successfully connected my MacBook Pro 15, OSx 10.8.5, with my Pioneer A4 WiFi speaker, both thru AirPlay and WiFi. However, when using Guitar Pro, the audio is about 2-3 beats behind the visual of the tab sheet.
Is there a way I can connect, via physical cable, directly to the A4 speaker? It has one USB port. My Mac has  2 USB ports and two Thunderbolt ports.

What kind of Mac & OS is that?
It's an older version of OSX, Tiger I think.
    Amen, I quite understand.
Thanks. I've read that the MBP unibody wifi performance isn't as effective as other laptops, so if I can't use a USB modem and the wifi isn't up to much then I'll be stuck with ethernet.
It's just a big hassle that I didn't expect to have to go through. Some friends bought a £350 laptop at the same time running Vista. Plug the modem in, and bang, they're online. I'm on my third day of trying to set this up, and I'm now having to look at new modem specs and spend yet more cash.
I'm waiting for a monitor cable to come through. I've had to buy the miniport adapter so I've already had to pay Apples £20 tax to use an external monitor that isn't made by Apple.
It's this sort of hassle and additional expense that put people off buying Macs. After a ten year break I thought things had got better, but it's not looking promising so far.

  • Help with connecting MacBook Pro with Cisco Routing and Switches?

I'm running a CiscoASA 5510 router with several Cisco WS-C2960-48TT-L switches on a local network to connect with MacBook Pro. I need to be able to restrict access to specific users via their computer MAC address. ie: Joe Blow is limited to connecting through Switch 1 on port 10 and anywhere else he tries to plug in will simply not work.

You need to look at the documentation that came with your router and switches. Or ask your network admin to set it up. Your question has nothing to do with your Macbook Pro configuration. MAC filtering is done in the router not in the computers/devices connecting to the router.

  • Problem connecting Macbook Pro with WRT160n wireless

My roommate and I recently got WRT160n, and she has a PC and her connection was fine. But for my Macbook, whenever I try to connect to the network and put in my password (the one that I set up) it says that the password is incorrect. I'm not sure what the problem is. I tried configuring with the 192.168.1.1 thing, but that didn't help me much either (unless I was doing it wrong.) Help?

Make sure that the wireless password is correct ....also disable all firewall on the MAC computer .... & check that you are able to connect the network or not ....
If so then try to ping the DG ....
