Connect MacBook to 2 displays: TV and desktop

Hi, so I've had my MacBook connected to my desktop monitor for a while now and everything's worked perfectly. I'm trying to also connect the Macbook to a Polaroid 23" HDTV. I got all the cords that I think i needed and I attached everything and nothing has seemed to change. I put the TV input to "computer (vga)" and it still reads 'no signal'. what i have right now is...
mini-div to dvi --> dvi that splits into one dvi and one vga --> vga cord from splitter to TV, and dvi cord from splitter to computer monitor
I tried unconnecting the computer monitor so that the TV could be the second screen but that didn't work either.
Am I doing something wrong, or is this not even possible? Am I using the wrong cables? HELP PLEASE. I've been trying to do this for a while now and am desperate.
How do I get my TV to read a signal?

i understand what you're trying to do but i only use one moniter.
however, i ran across some equipment you should probably research. its for hdmi but theirs probably something like it if you're using another interface or maybe you can use adapters.
its a hdmi splitter amplifier...it allows you to split an hdmi signal from one source to two or more other displays. there kinda expensive. try looking on onsale.com

  • Should I use a macbook pro as my laptop and desktop, or have a macbook pro and an iMac?

i was wondering if i should use my macbook pro as a laptop and desktop, or if i should go ahead and buy a mac desktop too?

Just look at how many posts are on this forum, let alone the Boot Camp forum, about Windows on a Mac.
Got to any of the virtual machine software forums and take a look. Why do you thing there are 3 different virtual machine program available for the Mac to run Windows, let alone Apple's own Boot Camp system.
If it wasn't needed do you think Apple would have there own system for installing and running Windows on all Mac computers.
I personally don't know of any Mac users, and I know quit a few, that do not have a version of Windows installed on there Mac computers. Either in a boot camp partition or in one of the virtual machine programs.
There is some software that has just Windows versions. If you need that software and you own a Mac you need Windows to run it.

  • Connecting MacBook to TV - only can see desktop image!

I was wondering if you could help.
I bought a a Vid Mini-DVI to VGA adaptor and a 3m VGA Male to Male cable to connect my MacBook to my LCD TV.
It has a 'PC' VGA input and a 'PC' channel on the TV, as it were.
Now, it all seems to work fine.....except all I can see on my TV is my desktop picture (no dock, icons or anything else at all).
Have I set it up wrong, or do I just need to change a setting on my Mac to get it to display properly?
    Any help gratefully received!
    Ben

    Hey,
I believe what your experiencing is the Dual Display Option. The MacBook will automatically start up in dual display mode. This means you can use both your MacBook Monitor and your external for screens. To have a mirror image press F7 to toggle between mirroring and dual. If you want to have your main desktop on your external and have your MacBook as the other screen you can go into the display preferences and there should be a little diamond above the screens that you can toggle back and forth to make it the defualt screen.
Hope this is what you were experiencing!

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display - Sound and video doesn't work at the same time.

I just bought a macbook pro retina display and tried to watch a movie by connecting my macbook pro via hdmi to my home theater receiver (Onkyo TX-SR309) and into my HDTV (Sony Bravia 42"). My problem is, i don't get sound from the speakers connected to the receiver.
When i disconnect the HDTV from the receiver (only the receiver is connected to the macbook pro), then sounds will comes out from the speaker.
Can somebody help me to fix this problem?

With the HDMI connected and the Onkyo powered on, open system preferences, go to the sound panel, and select the HDMI choice.

  • I have a macbook pro, and i want to transfer my hard drive from my macbook, but the display drivers and such are different.  How do i do this?

I have a macbook pro, and i want to transfer my hard drive from my macbook (500g), but the display drivers and such are different.  How do i do this and is it possible?
The Macbook Pro has Mac OS X 10.4.11 (70g hard drive)
The Macbook has Mac OS X 10.6.8 (500g hard drive)

The MacBook's hard drive lacks the necessary hardware drivers to boot the MacBook Pro even though it has a much newer OS on it; that's why simply moving it into the Pro doesn't work. Presumably you have a very old MB Pro, because only the very first MB Pro model (produced January to May 2006) was ever offered with an 80GB hard drive. Are you sure you want to move your big drive into such an old machine? The MacBook must be newer, because the first MacBook was introduced just as the first Pro model was discontinued.

  • Connecting MacBook through external display in Windows Boot Camp partition

Hello everyone! I recently installed Windows Vista Home Premium on my MacBook 320GB. My Mac Partition of the drive works perfect, and connects through Mini DVI-Video through composite cables and into my T.V. When I tried this in Windows, I had no luck whatsoever. yes, all the drivers are installed for my chipset, processor, keyboard, etc. Windows is updated as well through Microsoft, But not through the Apple Software Update because the download failed again to the Boot Camp update. How do I connect an external display(ex. Projector, T.V., anything that has composite input)? Yes, I know some of you will say, "Your first mistake was buying Vista", but thats not the problem here. Windows Vista works perfectly. When you connect an external display, it re-adjusts its screen resolution but does not appear on the external monitor. Is the Boot Camp Update the solution? Please Help!!!
That was a lot of writing!

I am using Vista on Macbook and when I connect my PC to my TV, lot of times, it hangs on me and a blue screen shows up with some errors and then it shut downs. I atleast do this 2-3 times and then finally it gets connected but there has to be a way where we can easily connect to TV without any issues. Any help guys?
Also I have noticed, my resolution on TV when I connect my macbook is 1900 x 1260 something... Is this related to resolutions?

  • Connected macbook pro to rca tv and not working

i have a late 2011 macbook pro. i've tried connecting it up to my old tv by..
minidisplay port -> vga -> tv/pc converter to RCA. i get a signal on my macbook pro picking up my tv
but on the tv i get tons of moving/flickering lines sometimes with a slight picture in no matter what resolution i use?
any ideas what i can do to make a proper image?

How do you even get a signal? I just got a brand new MacBook Pro and I too am trying to connect it to an non-HD television. I can't even get a signal to show up on my T.V.

  • Connect MacBook with Studio Display Monitor (2000)

I am trying to connect my MacBook with an old Studio Display monitor (made in 2000) that has an ADC 30 Male cord. I have a Mini-DVI to DVI 24 Female Adapter that fits into my laptop. I can't seem to find a DVI 24 Male to ADC 30 Female adapter, which is what appears I need. Is there anything I can do to make this work? Thanks!

  • Macbook - closed the display lid and the computer restarts

any ideas ... i have tried restarts, reparing permission, reinstalls .... its like using windows ... or maybe even in iphone as it seems this too is struggling.
i miss when the products just worked, time and time again
do i just need to take this into apple for help or will there finally be an update to resolve this problem ...
i need to depend on this computer - any idea.
    thanks for your insights.

one of our brand new MacBooks has the same exact problem: occasionally, when closing the display the macbook will spontaneously close all programs without providing a "save" prompt and restart.
being brand new - it has the latest firmware, and i've updated to 10.4.10.
anyone else having this issue - any resolutions? i agree that it's most likely a hardware malfunction.

  • Help with connecting MacBook Pro with Cisco Routing and Switches?

I'm running a CiscoASA 5510 router with several Cisco WS-C2960-48TT-L switches on a local network to connect with MacBook Pro. I need to be able to restrict access to specific users via their computer MAC address. ie: Joe Blow is limited to connecting through Switch 1 on port 10 and anywhere else he tries to plug in will simply not work.

You need to look at the documentation that came with your router and switches. Or ask your network admin to set it up. Your question has nothing to do with your Macbook Pro configuration. MAC filtering is done in the router not in the computers/devices connecting to the router.

  • Beginner question: Can I create a hybrid home network between an ethernet-connected iMac and an airport connected Macbook Pro using a hybrid router?

I recently acquired an friend's used iMac, I don't know anything about networks and all I can find is how to create a Wi-Fi home network but nothing about hybrid Ethernet/Wi-Fi networks.
I have the iMac connected via Ethernet to the wireless router.
I connect via Airport with my MacBook Pro
I would appreciate if anyone has any pointers as to how I can start setting up a network between my ethernet-connected iMac and WiFi connected Macbook.
    Thanks!

ethernet and airport/WiFi are just transmission media for the same network. If you can get internet on both computers, they are networked. Using the same router = same network.

  • Thin PC - Remoteapp and Desktop Connections

Hi this is a copy of my post in the Windows 7 misc forum where it's getting no relevant replys.
Has anyone been able to get this working?
All I get is error 1000 which is that the thin pc can not find the rdgateway or app server.
I know that they are both working and accessible from this machine, I can drag an rdp to the desktop and it runs, I can go to the rdweb site and run applications from there.
I have a full windows 7 test bed and running the wcx config file poulates the remote app programs and I can go to the control panel and type in the url and that works.
I have turned off all the firewalls, the thin pc is configured for hyper-v management and just about everything else works.
As this is the pricnipal use of thin pc - a hyper-v client has anyone got any ideas ?

    Hi Alan,
    Steps taken.
ThinPC is a clean install, everything default except time and country set to UK. Hyper-v configured using the technet script for VDI. Local admin account enabled and joined to domain.
Log in as domain admin, go to control panel, remoteapp and desktop connections.

The RD Gateway is responding correctly as I can go to the RDWeb site log in and launch programs, I can copy a created rdp file for an application to the desktop and run that as well.
The webfeed.aspx is working correctly as I can run that on a Win7 full client in both hyper-v and a hardware one and they populate the apps as expected.
    Regards,
    Kane.

  • Connecting macbook pro to two monitors?

How do I connect two apple cinema displays (24" and 30") to a 15 inch macbook pro (mid 2010)?

Mmm... the only thing I can think of right now is the  "Matrox DualHead2Go"
    http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go/
However that requires DVI connections or Display port... So, you might need to get a pair of HDMI to DVI Adapters too..

  • MacBook Pro Retina Display Support ?

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro Retina Display laptop, and would like to know when I can expect Adobe to upgrade the CS6 suite of apps to take advantage of the Retina display.

    Don Quinn wrote:
Am I the only one confused why people buy into doubly dense displays and then want to dumb them down by making elements on them twice as large?  That seems wasteful. Scoot your chair closer to the screen. I hold an iPhone 4 closer to my face than a 2nd gen iPod touch. It is no big deal. They look the same that way.
The retina display does not introduce a new issue. Dot pitch has been increasing for years. We see people that will adjust their LCDs to a non-native resolution (ie: running 1024x768 on a 1280x1024-capable display). Or they will adjust their system settings to display larger fonts. Instead of buying the right monitor for their needs and eyesight, they misuse an expensive display. I would love to have the pixels that they are not using. A pixel is a terrible thing to waste.
You show a complete lack of understanding of the problem, and what the Retina display brings to the table. It's not just a higher density display — it's roughly double the resolution. You even said it, but did you think it through? According to your suggestion, we should run the display at the double resolution and deal with half-sized UI elements. Can I say, "yuck!"? Just TRY to use Photoshop with buttons this small:
http://d.pr/i/LVTH (screenshot of Photoshop CS6 on my rMBP at the highest resolution) Squeeze that into a 15in. laptop screen and you'll see the problem.
Most are smaller than my mouse pointer. Some apps that don't support the display are completely unusable. I tried playing Team Fortress 2 soon after getting my rMBP and found that the settings UI is so small it's impossible. The doubled resolution isn't so we get more screen real estate — it's so we get super-crisp images and a level of detail in the photos and graphics we work on that parallels printed work. Hell, I'd settle for just getting the workspace Retina supported. I don't care if the UI is grainy, I just want my photos and prints to be crystal clear.
I'm STILL waiting on word (any word at all) from Adobe that even HINTS on Retina support. I refuse to purchase software because odds are, it'll be in 6.5 and I'll have to purchase all over again. I'd go Creative Cloud but I'm not paying $50/mo for ugly software from a company who could be a bit more loving to the consumer. Also, I just can't afford it. I'm unfortunately stuck waiting with just Pixelmator (which is Retina supported already... ahem) until Adobe says something. ANYTHING. Instead, you could hear a pin drop in the silence. WE JUST WANT TO KNOW
