Connect MacBook to router using ethernet

i have used "help" and the diagnostics didn't work too well either. could someone help me please?
the router i'm using is a "BT 1800 HG"
Thanks

Hi,Make sure all the software updates and the recent EFI update are installed. Wi-Fi problems seem to be an unfortunately frequent event for 10.5.x users. In my case, I finally started having stable Wi-Fi as of 10.4.11. Despite coolness features and time capsule feature of 10.5 I'm sticking with 10.4.11 until Wi-Fi stabilizes for 10.5. Having Wi-Fi actually work trumps the additional eye candy of the 10.5 user interface.
Apologies for the non-answer. As you noted, it would appear down-grading to 10.4.11 is in effect the solution.

There's no setting. Plug in the cable to the adapter for either USB or Thunderbolt and plug the other end into your router. You can turn off wireless at that point.

  • Can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices?

can time capsule be connected wirelessly and still use ethernet ports for other devices? we have it connected wirelessly but devices connected to the ethernet ports are not working.

Not as an additional router.. the TC will be plugged into the main router via ethernet (or ethernet equivalent)..
Then the TC is setup in bridge mode. It will simply act as a Switch and HDD.
The wireless can be setup in a number of ways.
From your convenience point of view use it in roaming network mode..
you simply give the TC the same Wireless Name as the existing routers SSID.
Same security setting and password. WPA2 Personal = WPA2 AES which is the best.
But they both use different wireless channels.. normally if you leave the TC on auto it will work fine, but I prefer to control the network.. so set the main router to say 1 and the TC to 11.
You can also use a completely different wireless name etc.. that is up to you. It is still a single flat network and the only thing that is important is only having one router.

  • Connecting HP Laserjet 500N using ethernet cable and router

I had my HP Laserjet 5000N connected to my wireless router via ethernet cable. It worked fine. But then I changed routers and can't remember how to reestablish the connect.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

    no problems.
There is a priority order when multiple networking interfaces are available.
Ethernet is higher than Airport in the order.
If both ethernet and Airport interfaces are connected to the network, then ethernet becomes the primary networking interface.
If nothing is plugged into the ethernet port, then Airport will get control.

  • Can't connect to Time Capsule using Ethernet

    Hi All
I've got a new Macbook Pro, and want to migrate my old machine across.  First attempt took 3 days wirelessly and then failed, with no given reason or explanation.  I want to attempt to restore this a 2nd time, but would like to use ethernet as I can't afford another 3 days of being in limbo.
The problem is that I can see the Time capsule wirelessly, but can't see it via Ethernet.
    Any clues?

(I think this is the way they're supposed to be set up)
Unfortunately, no. The Setup Manual does not even cover this type of configuration. You must have discovered this by poking around in the setup utility, etc.
An Ethernet cable connection to the modem or router is always the way to go for speed and reliability.
One thing that you may not have thought about in your current setup is that the wireless signal must make two "hops" for a backup. One hop from your Mac to the wireless router and then another wireless hop back out to the Time Capsule.
So, not only will it take more much more time....the chances of an error are doubled.
I recommend that you consider reconfiguring the Time Capsule correctly by connecting it directly to the your wireless router using an Ethernet cable. Then, wireless backups only make one "hop"....and...you have the option to connect directly to one of the Ethernet ports on the Time Capsule to speed the backup by 4-5 times over wireless.
In general, you can expect to backup about 25-30 GB an hour using Ethernet.
If you do not need the wireless network that the Time Capsule provides, it is a simple matter to turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule.

  • Why can't apple TV "see" my PC that's connected to the router using a Powerline connection

OK. Apple TV can see my partners lap Top that's connected to our router wirelessly. Logs onto iTunes and will play his content.
BUT... Apple TV can't see my PC that connects to the same Router via a Powerline link to the router. Surly it should see it as if the PC was connected using an Ethernet cable>

Yes, it should, I use just that kind of setup.
Could be a router configurtion issue.
How is AppleTV connecting wired or wireless? Some routers can isolate wired LAN from wireless Lan which you wouldn't want.

  • I want to connect to the internet using ethernet cable.

I want to use ethernet cable to connect to the internet. I follow the instructions, I am still unable to connect to the internet with the ethernet cable. I want faster browsing and uploads and download speeds

If you have a router connect an Ethernet cable from the cable/DSL modem to the WAN port on the router. Connect another Ethernet cable from one of the router's LAN ports to the Ethernet port on the computer. Open Network preferences, select the Ethernet port and click on the Advanced button. Click on the TCP/IP tab then select DHCP from the Configure IPv4 drop down menu. Click on the Apply button.
Turn off the computer, router, and modem. Wait at least one minute. First, turn on the modem and wait until the status lights indicate connection to your ISP. Second, turn on the router and wait until the status light shows communication with the modem. Last, turn on the computer.
If you do not have a router, then do the same as the above except that the Ethernet cable connects from the modem's Ethernet port to your computer's Ethernet port.

  • Connect 2 Macs WITHOUT using ethernet?

After a search in this discussion area, I have a newbie question....
Is there ANY way to connect 2 Macs w/o using ethernet? The new Mac is an iBook using a community wireless net (antenna connected to new Mac via a cable (ethernet port).
OLD Mac (G3 iMac) works Great except ... the ethernet connection is fried ... repair is about $450.....
Would like to let the OLD Mac share the broadband with the New iBook...
Any way via USB? Firewire (w/o an ext disk)...Or ?
I don't know or have heard of such a connect... have you? Any ideas?
    Cheers, Jim B

DPC has you pretty well covered.
Firewire will work two ways... IP over FW, and FWTDM.
With FW over IP, you can just type in the 169.254.x.x addy of the other one, sign on with the other one's Username and other one's PW for full use.
FWTDM, you just connect the FW cable, reboot one holding down the t key, walah, instantly turns the other Mac in to a big expensive external FW drive, usful for repairing the other one, copying lots of files, or using Migration Assistant to import settings, APPs and such.

  • Internet won't work on MacBook Pro unless using ethernet cable

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me with this.  We recently got a new NETGEAR N600 wirelesss ADSL2 modem router and when trying to set it up I found I couldnt use my MacBook, we had to use a the old PC to do it.  The connection is set up and my iPhone and iPad as well as our PCs have no problem picking up the wireless signal, however I cannot seem to wirelessly connect wiht my MacBook Pro.  I hav e to use the ethernet cable if I want to use internet on my MacBook.  In Network Preferences it says wi-fi is connected however when I open up Safari it says that there is no connection.  My friends have also been experiencing this problem with their macbooks lately.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
    Thanks

    Reboot the modem.

  • Connect MacBook Pro Retina to Ethernet LAN

  • Cannot Connect MacBookPro to Router via Ethernet

I just bought a new modem/router and attempted to set it up using this MBP running on Mavericks via ethernet cable.  Each attempt when I typed the modem address into Safari, the blue line stuck and the MBP could not connect.  To avoid any conflicts, I turned wifi off.
I then tried my wife's MBP which runs OS 10.7.5 and this worked with no problems at all.  I then went back to using my Mavericks, but it would still not connect.
    Can anybody offer a solution?
    Thanks,

On the Mavericks Mac you could try deleting the existing Ethernet connection in System Preferences>Network using the '-' button. Save the changes and then create a new Ethernet connection using the '+' sign.

  • C4380 connecting to N router using WPA2

I am having issues connecting wirelessly and need to find the software online here to do so. However, I have been reading that to use this printer wirelesly, you need to use WPA not WPA2 which is the preferd mode to get the best Speed.  Is this true as far as you know

I have never heard of any speed difference between WPA & WPA2.
I do know that your printer requires the presence of 802.11g, so make sure that is enabled on your router.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Connecting Macbook to PS3 using Crossover Cable

I am attempting to connect my Playstation 3 to my Macbook. My Macbook is connected to a Telus internet stick which is successfully connected to the internet. I have just purchased a Nexxtech Crossover cable and have connected that between my Macbook and PS3.
The issue is getting my PS3 connected to the internet.
I have enabled internet sharing in system settings on the Mac.
For the PS3, I am assuming to go: network settings, internet connection settings, custom, wired connection, auto detect, and then manual ip address. The problem I believe is the settings for IP address, subnet mask, primary and secondary DNS. It is these fields of information that I don't know how to fill.
Much help is appreciated, I have been at this for hours.

You don't need a crossover cable as at least the Mac is auto MDI/MDI-X.
The PS3 should use DHCP and you might encounter problems depending on wether you have the firewall turned on or not on the Mac.
