Connect MacBookPro to a hdmi socket ?

hi all, i have had a look through the cables available in the Apple Store, but i dont seem to easily find one that will plug into my MacBookPro's Firewire Socket and a HDMI socket on a Sony HD TV ?. Any suggestions please what i should use and where would i get it from please ?.
All i want to is to display the photos that are on my MBP'S hard drive.
tim

The FireWire port on your MBP doesn't output a video signal, so you can't connect it to a TV set. That's what your mini-Displayport is for.
If your MBP was made before April 2010, its mini-Displayport doesn't output audio. You can still use an audio-capable HDMI adapter with it, but there won't be any audio signal to carry until you get a newer MBP. This adapter is available at the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
You can't use the same adapter with an iPad or iPhone. For that you'll need this adapter:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC953ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE
Besides the two adapters, you'll need a standard HDMI cable of the appropriate length, which you can use with either adapter.

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
    Help!

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

  • HELP! Apple TV to a TV without a HDMI socket

    Hey all,
Hope you had a good Christmas.
I have Apple TV in one room at home and it works great. My housemate loves it so I thought I would buy him one for Christmas. Christmas day arrived and he opened it happy as can be.
I offered to hook it up for him only to discover his Sony Plasma DOES NOT have a HDMI socket anywhere on it. I've searched hi and low and it's not there. He does have lots of other connectors on it so I took a snap of them and went off to my local apple store for advice.
They recognised that there were 5 sockets in a line with are apparently component connectors (?)
They suggested I buy a HDMI to Component lead. I went straight on Amazon and bought one. I am waiting for it to arrive but when tracking it online today I noticed that there were reviews. 99% of them say "This lead does not work" as apparently trying to connect Apple TV to component is asking it to change digital to analogue? Is this right?
I am so worried now that this lead is going to arrive and not do the job and my friend is going to be let down .. again.
Will it work? If it doesn't is there anything else I can do. I really want to get it working for him without him buying a new TV!!!
    Any help would be GREAT.
    PLEASE!
Thanks and have a great new year.
    Jamey

Hi this is the cable I have bought. I have connected it today and it doesn't work.

I have seen this at Amazon though and I think it might work. Do you think it would?

  • How to connect Apple TV (2g) HDMI to HDTV with only component video input.

Trying to connect Apple TV (2g) HDMI to HDTV with only component video input.  Can I use a simple cable or do I need a converter box/plug? Is the HDMI signal coming from ATV encrypted or HDCP enabled?
The TV is HD, but only has a component input and not HDMI.  Apple TV 2g only has HDMI output.

    google component hdmi converter
but they are pretty expensive and may not work at all
and will not work with any DRM material as in movies you reant and maybe netflix and the sports thingy

I have connected them via the Ipad to a LIGHTNING DIGITAL AV ADAPTER-ZML connected to a APPLE HDMI TO HDMI CABLE (1.8 M)-ZML, and to the HDMI port on the PC. But now I don't know how to show the Ipad screen on the PC, as if it was a monitor / screen, so that I can then use Lync and share my PC screen with people virtually.
    Thanks for any help! Regards

Hi Rob - thanks so much for your help!  Could you tell me what "air sever or reflector apps." are? and where can I look for information about them?
Do you use them on the Ipad or on the PC?
Do I need a cable too and which one?
Sorry... I am not very technical as you can see, thanks for your help.

    Fascinated and guessing:
Something related to sock(2) because that's not part of your copied info. I'm thinking you've doubled up on sockets and the second socket doesn't exist, meaning you should be connecting to the first socket "mysqld.sock" whether automatic or not.
I've only used GUI tools on purpose, so does this mean you've already got MySQL running and you tried to launch it again manually? Perhaps you already have one instance of a db and you're trying to launch a second instance, and the two can't coexist with a single user local db?
Assuming this is all local, I'd shut down the db service and restart it, out of hand. I've seen similar messages when I set the db to start up on boot, and it didn't finish shutting down when I tried to restart it manually. Usually the GUI won't let me turn it on because it reports it's already running, but in that case it hadn't finished performing what the GUI was reporting.
    Just speculating.

  • Connecting iMAC mini to HDMI imput of my monitor

I have an 22'' Asus monitor with 3 inputs (VGA, DVI and HDMI) and connecting my iMAC mini to DVI input (through HDMI->DVI adapter) all works perfectly. But connecting it directly to HDMI input of my monitor, using HDMI-HDMI cable - the image is very unclear: especially this is remarkable for texts...
    Any idea?

My guess maybe that when you connect via the DVI port on the Asus, the Mac mini is correctly detecting the resolutin and setting it self to match. However when connecting via HDMI it is not chosing the same (best) resolutuon. Can you do the following to help diagnose this.
On the Mac open System Preferences
    Select Displays
Make sure show in menu bar is enabled (ticked)
Now go to the Displays menu in the menu bar it should show the current resolution
Repeat step 4 for both the DVI and HDMI connections, we want to see if they are the same or different.

  • Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

Can I use the optical digital audio cable to connect INSTEAD of the hdmi?  My tv only has 2 hdmi ports, and they're both taken

I'm afraid that's very misleading and inaccurate.
Firstly an adapter won't work, it would need to be a converter and then if it's a compliant converter it won't let you watch HDCP protected content such as that from netflix or from the iTunes Store.
Secondly, whilst I'm not going to debate whether component or HDMI is better, component is certainly not better if it's been converted from an HDMI signal. You can't make anything better by simply converting it to another type of signal.

There are only two types of HDMI cables (standard and high speed - listen to all 1.2, 1.3 etc etc nonsense they will try to tell in the store) both types will work with the Apple TV.
The cable may be faulty though, have you got another to try, what exactly is happening.
