Connect MacBooks via USB Cable/OS X Lion
I have a simple USB cable and I would liek to use it to connect two MacBook Pros with each other so that I can use the healthy one to scan the failed hard drive of the other. Is that possible? If so, how?
Also, I would like to know, whether there are any good reasons for spending money and upgrading from Snowleopard to OS X Lion?

You need to use a FireWire cable to connect the Mac's put one in target mode (hold down the T key while restarting) and then make your connection. My advice is to upgrade to Lion if your system meets the minimum requirements.

You are not alone. Thousands have this problem, on various models of Macs. Short answer, it has something to do with the disk going to sleep (possibly?). You can't do anything about it and Apple won't address the problem. Maybe you should buy a time capsule. Just keep giving them money and use their proprietary equipment.

Desktop software crashes when I connect Bold via USB cable
I start version 5.0 of Blackberry Desktop Software. All the icons come up. I then plug in my Bold, the desktop software picks up the PIN number, and then I get the window that says Desktop software has stopped working and will shut down.
I found the instructions for a clean uninstall of the desktop software. I followed them and then reinstalled Desktop manager. No change in the problem.
Desktop software was working just fine until I got a nasty virus. I ended up installing a disk image from several months prior to get rid of it. Ever sense the new image, I can't get the desktop software to work.
Any suggestions? Thanks.I visited that link a couple of times, but it hasn't been of much use because the thing about my problem is that my phone is connecting and disconnecting rapidly, but works with other laptops with the same usb cable just fine, also if I connect another USB cable such as my hard drive it works great. What I don't get is why does my phone connect to other computers with the same USB cable well but not mine, and when I connect something else to my computer it works just fine too. What can I do now?

I am very reluctantly considering upgrading to Lion and going ahead and migrating MobileMe to iCloud before June 2012. If I upgrade and migrate, will I still be able to sync my 2nd generation iPod Touch via USB cable? Or will these changes force me to get a new iPod that can run iOS 5 because syncing will be nightmarish?

Now the first question is, when you are saying connecting to personal hotspot, have you always been using the iPhone to connect to the internet? Are you someplace where the only place to connect is available via tethering to the iPhone's celluar network? Or do you have other options? -
Why doesn't my pc connect to apple ipad via USB cable
Connected my ipad to my pc via USB cable. Pc does not. Connect with it. under Computer device does not appear. My other external devices are ok though it recognises them ok I e external hard drive
What can I co to find out fault. It worked once before when I copied photos across from ipad to pc okIf the iPad does not show up in My Computer when you first connect it (and also open the Windows "what do you want to do with this drive" box) then unplug the USB cable, wait 10 secs, then plug it back in.
If you don't hear the Windows "ker-plunk" sound then the drivers are not loading and you need to uninstall and re-install iTunes. The drivers that allow your computer to see the iPad are NOT built into Windows, they come with iTunes. Uninstall iTunes, go to the website and download and install the latest version. -

I am trying to connect to the printer but the printer is not appearing in my Print/Fax Preferences.
When I click the box "More Printers" under the Default printer the drop down box gives me a heading "Canon IPv6 (UFRII) with the option to add or cancel. (The add is highlighted). But there are no printers showing in the box. Nothing. Can anyone help?

E65 won't connect via USB Cable

I just got my new Nokia E65 and I couldn't be happier with it. Fantastic phone.
However I can't connect it to my PC (Windows XP SP2) via the USB Cable...it just won't recognize it. I installed PC Suite with the latest cable drivers and nothing happens. When I connect the cable to the phone it asks if I want to use "data transfer" or "pc Suite" mode, but neither of them work.
I'm able to connect to PC Suite via infrared, and that works fine. But I want to update my firmware and software updater only works via usb cable.
Any ideas on what to to?more info needed, suite version, cable type, what is visible in pc device manager when you connect phone, what is visible in phone screen when you connct cable, etc.

For owners of iPhone 3G that cannot upgraded the device to a version higher than iOS 4.2, syncing Notes and Safari Bookmarks via usb cable with iTunes is the only option we have. There is no iCloud integration for Notes and Safari Bookmarks under iOS 4.2. I'm not updating to MacOS 10.8, because there is no way to sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via cable. So I won't be able to sync those anymore unless I upgrade to a newer model of iPhone. I'm not into a new hardware investment, at least not for now. I just want to know if iTunes 11 running in MacOS 10.7 Lion still have the functionality of sync Notes and Safari Bookmarks via USB cable.

Yes.
If you are sincing Notes via iCloud, iTunes will tell you so.
If you change the iDevice - Settings> iCloud > Notes - Off, they sync (or not sync) thru iTunes (either wifi or cable).
So my question now would be:
Is "Notes" manual sync checkbox option provided under "Others" in iTunes 11.0.1 with MacOS 10.7 Lion?

When I connect my Ipad 2 to my desktop (via USB) import photos screen open on desktop. I am trying to coppy/move files from desktop to Ipad 2. Import photos come up with import error and I cannot do anything else. How do you correct this issue? Tx. New user.
Actually, you can get photos onto an ipad from a PC. Connect them via USB (or wireless sync if you have that set up), go to the photos tab in iTunes, I don't have iTunes in front of me but there will be an option to sync photos from a folder on the PC to the iPad. You can choose an existing folder or make a new folder specifically for this purpose. Put the photos in said folder and then sync.
The photos from that folder will be transferred to your iPad -
I am trying to update firmware on my canon printer MG5320 to be able to use the airprint feature but in doesn't recognize the printer being plugged in via USB cable. I have tried restarting the macbook, turning on and off the printer, repairing permissions, deleting and redownloading the update what else can I do? The prinyrt works fine otherwise...
If there are no drivers for Yosemite you might be in trouble.. HP will tend not to support printers once they are EOL.
Getting it running over wireless rather than USB might be worthwhile.

Non-firewire MacBook via USB to Intel Mini as External Hard Drive
I'm working with the aluminum MacBook that doesn't have a firewire and a Core 2 Duo Intel Mini. Is it possible to connect the Mini to the MacBook via USB and have the Mini act as an external hard drive for the MacBook?
If so is it possible as well to do it the other way around; the Mini as the boot drive and the MacBook as the external hard drive?

I really think there is no way to connect a computer in target mode to the Unibody Macbook which has no Firewire port.
I did the stupid thing to plug a USB2toUSB2 cable into a brand new Macbook and it fried the USB port (which are soldered on the motherboard) thereby loosing my computer.
I still don't know IF I made a mistake or IF the cable was the culprit.

So my advice...do your data trasfer via Ethernet or external HD or take out the old disks.
