Connect MBP to HDTV problem..

So I connected my MBP to HDTV through a MiniDisplayPort to DVI <-> DVI to HDMI cable, and all I can see is my MBP wallpaper on my HDTV.
I haven't changed any options so I figure that's the problem, but I've been looking online and on my computer for about 30 minutes now and can't find the options to change!
What's going on?

in the system preferences select display while its hooked up to the HDTV /// inside of there you should be able to mirror your displays /// seems like its not mirrored /// if you drag an app to the right of the screen and keep going does it show up on the HDTV? if it does its set up as a second monitor not a mirrored monitor.

  • Problem connecting MBP to HDTV

I ordered a DVI to HDMI cable and hooked it up to the my Toshiba HDTV and I get a picture, unfortunately it's not what I'm looking at on the MBP. Strangely it is the blue design that is the desktop background when you pull the MBP out of the box and it does not change if I open up programs, etc.
What do I need to do to get my MBP screen to show up on the TV?
    Thanks!

you may have your screen in extended desktop mode, so the HDTV is just a second display that allows you more desktop space, that's why it's not showing a duplicate of what you see on its display. if you move the mouse pointer, you should see it goes over on to the HDTV and you can drag windows there etc.
if you want to change it to desktop mirroring, you should be able to do so in the displays pane in preferences. that way, both displays will show the same thing.

  • Help! Connecting MBP to HDTV

I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseam but I still can't find a solution that works for me. I am trying to connect my MBP to a Mitsubishi WD-52525 DLP HDTV. I'm using a DVI-HDMI cable. I tried it through an Onkyo AV receiver and directly to the TV HDMI inputs. Nothing. The MBP doesn't recognize that a second display is connected. What could be the problem?

I have done this and it works fine. Did you get it resolved? I have a Sony AV receiver that occasionally does not recognize my Mac mini (connected the same way) and I have to switch video channels on the receiver to something else for 5 seconds then back to get it to recognize the Mac. Also, have you tried connecting the Mac to the TV then booting it up?

  • Trouble Connecting MBP to HDTV

Hi, I've checked multiple threads on multiple forums with people having similar issues but haven't found a resolution yet!
I'm attempting to connect my Late 2011 MacBook Pro to my Sony HDTV using a minidisplay port/Thunderbolt to HDMI cable that I bought off Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Matters-Plated-Premium-DisplayPort/dp/B004CADYDO/r ef=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1362671342&sr=8-13
However, after plugging it all in and turning my TV to the correct HDMI port, there's no picture.
My MBP does the blue screen flash that supposedly shows it has detected the external display, but then nothing happens.
In System Preferences > Display, there is no tab for "Arrange Multiple Displays" (In which the mirroring option can be found) which seems to suggest it can't detect the TV at all.
How do I get my MBP picture on the TV?!
    Thanks.

  • Connecting MBP to HDTV.

How can I make my MBP 13" display onto DYNEX 40" HDTV without the left and right borders being blacked out? Using HDMI cable to connect. I have the picture up but I would prefer to have the full screen filled.

    @J_BB11 wrote:
No and I returned the tv for a 32" LG which works only full screen when its 720p.
So it does work full screen?
I don't know what to say. I have at least 7 TVs/external displays around here, and some do act differently, but all can go full screen by using the "video adjustment" on the unit. At least two of them started out new with the side bars you describe. A couple pushes of the proper button on the TV/display and it was full screen. If you're sure you tried the proper settings, then it would seem that you either have very bad luck purchasing a TV/display which will match up to your MBP's video output, or your MBP has an issue. Maybe you should make a free appointment with an Apple Store "genius" bar?

  • Connect MBP to HDTV

If you are looking to connect a new 15inch MBP 2.53ghz to a HDTV would you simply use the DVI to HDMI cable for video and then a seperate cable for 3.5mm jack to the two audio cables? is there a simpler way or a cable that incorporates both?

You can use two cables just as you describe, or you can get this adapter then just use an HDMI cable.

  • Connect MBP to HDTV for audio

How do I hook-up my MacBook Pro to my HDTV 1080 for audio? I tried using Portable Music Player Audio Cables, but it didn't work. I hooked up the video and it works great. Any help would be appreciated.

Depends on your TV's audio input. If it's analog (red and white RCA-type jacks) you need a mini-stereo-to-RCA cable like this one. If it's digital you need a mini-toslink-to-toslink cable like this one. Either way, the miniplug goes into the audio out/headphone jack on the MBP (it's a combined analog/digital output).
    Hope this helps...

  • Connecting MBP with VGA to 32" LCD HDTV?

    What's up everyone,
I'm looking at buying the new 15" Macbook Pro and connecting it to my Westinghouse 32" LCD HDTV. My TV does NOT have DVI input, but does have VGA and HDMI. Has the issue with connecting these bad boys been resolved yet? Has anyone successfully connected a Westinghouse HDTV to a MBP using VGA or HDMI? Please let me know, as I don't want to waste money on the new MBP if it isn't able to connect with my large external display (without problems).
    Thanks,
    Zac

Hi. I wanted your help on choosing the best settings for my external display. I currently have it out to HDMI on my 37" LCD Toshiba.
I tried to display without "mirroring" but if i dont the display on my tv is too large - very simlar to a zoomed in look. When i mirror the screen i can not see the top bar.
Video looks great on the screen.
I want my tv to display similar to a computer monitor!
    Many thanks,
    Tim

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.

  • Help w/ connecting MacBook to HDTV

I want to be able to connect my macbook (black) to my LG HDTV. I am using the DVI adapter to VGA (RGB). All I get is "no signal" on my TV. When I tried it out w/my Dell (didn't need the DVI adapter since my Dell has a VGA input), it worked right away. Anyone know why I would be getting "no signal?"
    Thanks -
    Jen

I used to have the same problem. I opened up the settings on my laptop while it was connected to my HDTV and under the Display menu I played around with the resolutions. Eventually one of them gave a signal to my HDTV. Hope that works.

What O/S versions(RDP) are you connecting to and from? Try and open the target machines event log and see what it throws when you try to connect.

  • Help connecting T60 to HDTV

Hello, I need help to understand what I should do to connect my laptop T60 (1951-bs7) to my Panasonic HDTV (capable to display 1024x768 resolution.
I just purchased a cable from VGA to component video (Y, Pr, Pb) but when I connect it to HDTV I don't get the video shown on TV, I tried all the resolutions (obviously after doing Fn-PF7 to also have the video signal on the VGA output) I can't get things to work other than a few green dotted lines for the lowest resolution.
Are there any drivers I should update on my graphic card to allow component to be managed appropriately through VGA ?
Last but not least, I'm waiting for the T60 advanced dock (I just ordered it), which also has a DVI output: can I expect at least this to work with a connecton DVI-HDMI ?
Thanks in advance for your help
    Paolo

you could also try to see if there is an option to configure your laptop for that in Presentation Director.
    Ignorance is no excuse!

  • HDMI Issue connecting laptop to HDTV

Hi Guys - I had my laptop connected to my HDTV via HDMI. I had unplugged the HDMI to take the laptop on vacation. It's been awhile since I connected it. Now when I connect the HDMI, I am getting the visual but not the audio on the tv. What am I forgetting or do I need to change a setting on the laptop (Toshiba Satellite C855 S5350)?
    Thanks!

I believe that you need to go into your audio settings when the laptop is connected to the TV and change the default audio device from the built-in laptop speakers to the entry marked "HD audio" or something similar.
P.S. The cake is a lie.

  • What is the best way to connect MBP 13" - (non retina) to HDMI TV input

What is the best way to connect MBP 13" late 2012 - (non retina) to HDMI TV input
...To get Video and Audio? With one cable ...
I'm seeing that the "rocketfish" adapter is not handling the job (from these forums).
I enjoy watching youtube videos, hulu, etc on the big screen through my laptop. The other Windows laptops I'ved had from Sony, HP, Dell, all had HDMI and was easy peasy.
I don't have the patience to buy and return 10 different types of adaters (nor would Best Buy appreciate that)
    Thank you!
