  • Installing OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless on Windows 7 laptop with no network

Just purchased the OJPro 8500 Wireless and am trying to install on a new laptop with Windows 7 installed. First the CD that came with the printer didn't like Windows 7, so I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and things started happening... but no cigar.
I'm trying to connect the printer to a laptop using wireless<-->printer, there is no wireless network involved. The equipment is as follows:
    - 3-IN-ONE HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 wireless
    - Laptop MSI CX600 series with wireless/bluetooth
I would really appreciate any info on how to accomplish this.
    Thanks.

1st, thx for clue about ad hoc (wireless) NETWORK (on pg. 10 & 11) in hp OFFICEJET "Wireless Getting Started Guide".
Windows 7 HELP & HP Solution Center were both pretty useless.
    (Specifically)
Type "ad hoc" in Search Programs & Files (under START icon).
Results will be; "Set up an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network". (Click on this)
Results will be; Dialog box to give name to network & set security, then SAVE.
NOTE: My Officejet Pro 8500n recognized "Security Type" = "No Authentication (Open)" & "Encryption Type" = "None"
    (Go to)
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Connect to a network
Results will be; (in Dialog box for "Open Network and Sharing Center") a listing of your ad hoc network name & message (in bold) "Waiting for users"
Finally, on Officejet Pro touch screen, Select "Setup Menu", "Network", "Wireless Setup Wizard",  [Name] (given to ad hoc Network in Windows 7), & OK.
(Opps, 1 more thing) Also, follow instructions on pg. 10, to "Change from a USB connection".

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g Loses Connectivity

[posted on behalf of another user]
Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless A909g
New printer will not stay connected to the wireless network. The printer continuously drops the network connection.
For 15-20 minutes at a time, it will go off-line, then come back on for ~5 mins.  If you power off the printer it will re-connect.  Energy Saving feature has been disabled.
When the printer is off-line, I cannot ping it nor reach it by http interface.
The router is a Belkin-N+ router, WPA-PSK security.
The printer is at address 192.168.2.4 and is static in both the Router and the printer.
The SSID is broadcast and the channel being used is 7, wireless mode is b,g and N
The printer says it has a connection strength of 5, and always shows itself connected.
The printer does not reconnect, unless you power cycle it.
If the printer is pingable then everything works fine, when it is not nothing works.  The fact that it works when it is on-line makes me believe everything with the network connection is fine, other than the possibility that there is a signal problem.  But since other devices with b cards, connect to the router with no problem, and the printer reports a strong connection I do not believe this is the problem.
I currently have a script running that pings the server every minute and it still disconnects.

Unfortunately, you are not alone.  Search the forums for this problem and you will find several threads.  Based on being involved with several of those here is what I recommend:
    1. Connect with Ethernet cable if you can.  Your problems will likely disappear.
    2. If not, try changing the wireless channel to 1 or 11.
    3. Try changing your group key renewal time (WPA key) to the maximum allowable by the router.
    4. You can try this firmware update, but it does not list this as a fault it corrects.
Let's try those and go from there...

  • Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

Will my HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless work with the new Mac OS Lion

My experience with upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion is that the OfficeJet Pro 8500 Wireless will print just fine, although it seems to take a little longer to find the printer on the network. My scan function however locks up and will not work. This really is an annoyance, though, since I have VueScan, which works fine with Lion.
Hopefully, Apple and HP will not orphan the OS native scanning feature for HP multifunction printers.

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - printer head?

I posted this elsewhere, but I think I posted it on the wrong Forum so I am posting it here now. I hope I did not do anything to upset anyone. I am new to this area, please forgive my clumsiness.
I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer. I've had my printer since December 2009 and no problems. I recently bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and had to go online to find the drivers that work for my printer. Windows 7 was not compatible with this printer.
Also recently, I am having a problem with what I think may be the black printer head, but when I run diagnostic on it everything comes back saying it is fine. However the problem still exist. When printing the black color will become faded in some areas and in some lines will not only almost totally fade out, but will almost look italic.
Can you tell me if this is the printer head and does it need replacing or is there another problem?
    SondraS

Are you using genuine HP cartridges and not refilled or third-party cartridges?
Print the Print Quality Diagnostic page from the setup menu/print report/ on the printer's front panel
Are there any quality issues with this page?

Hi @trudi39 , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I can see from your post you are experiencing print issues.  I would like to help!
    Do you receive any errors?
Does it print a blank page, or nothing at all?
Are you connected via wireless, ethernet or a USB cable?
In the meantime, I would recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  • Have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Trying to print to it from my iPad2. Having some problems.

I Have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Trying to print to it from my iPad2. Having some problems. Trying to print docs or files from the iPad usuall gets me a page that looks scrunched up to one side. Is there a good printer app (preferably free or shareware) that I could get or is there a patch, new driver, new firmware or something for the 8500 that would allow good printing fro the iPad wirelessly?

The latest firmware version for your printer is DLM1FN1006BR; you can verify yours by printing out a self test page via the front panel of your printer.
Also, the HP ePrint Home & Biz app supports printing over your local wireless network, so please verify if your printer is connected to the same access point as your iPad2.  You are also able to verify connectivity by typing your printer's ip address within the address bar of your safari web browser.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless Networking with LINKSYS WRT54GS wireless router

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer conneted via WiFi to my LYNKSYS WRT54GS wireless router.  I do not have a USB cable or ethernet cable plugged to the printer.  I am able to use the 'scan to email button' and the 'scan to network folder' button on the front of the printer and I can pint from the PC to the printer with no problems.
I installed the HP printer software from the CD, choosing network/wireless connection, without having to install any USB cables from the PC to the printer in the process.  many posts in the forum mention having to connect USB cables in the wireless installation process.
Can I install the software in the same fashion on the other two laptops? Or, do I need to do something differently?

The USB cable is used on those printers which do not have display or front panel wireless setup is not possible. We configure the wireless settings during install and save those settings in printer's memory by transferring through USB cable. Therefore the USB is plugged in during wireless installation temporarily. In your case I don't think plugging in USB cable is necessary as the printer is already on network and had IP address. Connect the laptops on wireless network and proceed with regular install, the printer should be detected automatically.

  • Printing problem - HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, Red color fads on 4th copy

I have an HP HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-in-One Printer, and am trying to print 75 copies of a program for our event. After the first 5-6 pages the RED in my program starts to turn magenta. I have brand new HP ink, and am printing on HP Color Injet Paper. I have renectly replaced the Black/Yellow printhead (at least 6 months ago). At first when I cleaned the printheads, I could print 2 or 3 pages showing my RED color. Then turns back to magenta. When I received the test patterns after cleaning the print heads they are all perfect with no lines.
What is going on and how can I fix it?

    Hi TM1997,
I understand you have an Officejet 8500 Wireless that is not printing red properly, it keeps turning to magenta. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will definitely do my best to help you!
As I'm sure you saw, when replacing the black and yellow printhead, that there are two printheads in the Officejet 8500 and the second one controls the magenta and cyan. I would suggest that you first have a look through this Troubleshooting Print Quality Issues document. You can also manually clean your printhead with the steps in this 'The Following Printhead Appears to be Missing or Damaged' or 'The Following Printhead has a Problem... document.
Hope this helps, have a great day!!

  • Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Windows 8 driver not working

    Hello!
I recently got a new Dell Inspiron computer running the 64-bit version of Windows 8, and I have an Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One Printer from a long time ago. I don't have the disc version of the driver, since I purchased the printer before Windows 8 came out, so I tried to download it from the HP website. Whenever I try to run it, however, it says that it is extracting, but once the extract is finished, nothing happens. The Installation Wizard doesn't pop up, and there is no error message explaing it. Help please?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Can I check if your Officejet Pro 8500 is A909 or A910?  Alternatively, you can install the class driver built into Windows 8 to print to your printer.  There are also a couple of Windows Store apps (HP AiO Remote and HP Scan and Capture) that would work with your printer.

    Hello AlexBW,
I received your private message and I thank you for writing me back.
One other step that I think may assist us would be to please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer/fax/copier all in one.
The message "phone off-hook" appears on my display.

    1. Unplugged the telephone fax line from LINE of the Officejet Pro.
    2. Unplugged the power cord to the printer.

    4. Powered up the printer

If you have followed all the troubleshooting steps outlined in this troubleshooting article then the only other solution is to have the printer serviced as it may be a printer hardware issue.
