Connect new g5 to wireless

I just got my G5, I forgot to order it wireless internet ready so I got the airport extreme card. When setting it up I opened the computer and can't find the antenna cable the intructions mention. I don't think it came with the computer. What do I do next? Can I buy that cable?

Well... it isn't "impossible" for end users to install this card. In reality, it really isn't very difficult to do. It's just that Apple doesn't "support" it - which means that they provide no end user installation instructions, and you need to order the required part as an Apple service part (you may not be able to just buy it "off the shelf" at any Apple dealer).
The tech specs for these new PowerMacs do state:
"...optional AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (build-to-order option or through an Apple Authorized Service Provider)"

  • Totally stuck connecting new hp deskjet2542 wirelessly.

Have got new deskjet2542 and am not familiar with most of terms on support website so am totally unable to follow what to do! When I try to install software from website hp.com/print/dj2540 and for 3rd day in row says try again later cos of error. My printer doesn't seem to recognise my wifi. I've tried switching it all off and then back on. Router, printer then iPad- no joy. Tried taking off broadband shield - no joy. Can't understand help site as seems to suggest doing things with router I don't understand. I have an ipad2 and have sky broadband. I live in the Uk. My wireless camera connects no problem to my iPad. Help!!!!!

OK, good this will be easy.
Press and hold the Wireless button on the printer for more than 3 seconds to start WPS push
mode. The Wireless status light starts blinking.
Press the WPS button on your router within 2 minutes of pressing the button on the printer.  The WPS button is the middle one on the front of the router.
Give them a couple of minutes to communicate with each other, then the printer should be connected.

  • Can't connect new MacBook to wireless internet

Just bought a MacBook, but I can't get it to connect to the internet over my wireless network. It picks up the signal, I typed in the password, and Internet Connect says that I am connected. But when I open Safari it just tells me I am not connected. Then it tells me to run Network diagnostics (ISP, INternet, and Server all say 'failed'), then Network Setup assistant. I follow those steps and inevitably it tells me "unable to establish a network connection).
My router is a 2Wire that came with my DSL subscription. I have never had an issue connecting a PC using the WEP password but I'm clueless on the Mac.
    Any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

I have been having a slightly different problems with my MB and the built-in wireless. On my home network I have had 4 different Windows laptops connected over the last few years and each and every time they find the network and connect no problem. With the MB it connected first time via WPA and all was well. However after about 2 weeks for no apparent reason it dropped the connection and no matter what I did it would not find the wireless network again.
Took it to work the next day and via the 802.1X network there it connected automatically as soon as I started it (previously set-up of course). Got home that night and when I started it the WPA connection worked again.
This has now happened 3 times with it working without a problem for 2-3 weeks and then just losing the connection. Generally if I switch it off and wait until the next day it all works again but as I am going to be travelling soon I need a reliable machine that connects each and every time. Guess it will be a Windows laptop then as I'm totally lost as to what to do with the MB.

  • Brand new ipod/itouch 4th generation won't connect to available hm wireless

I have a new 4th generation ipod touch. I also have a new computer using windows 7. I have set up the computer and wireless is working great. I have set up and synched the ipod to itunes without problems however, I cannot connect to my home wireless network. I have done the network reset. There is no option to "forget this network" that comes up when I click the arrow. I cannot access the support document that you provide in other links because it says it is "damaged". I have my wireless network password protected but my itouch will not accept the password. I know the password I am entering is correct because I used it to join my new computer to wireless and that worked fine. I have tried about 20 times to enter the password so I know that it is correct and it will not join. Please help.

I haven't gone running around town with my ipod trying to find out if it will connect to other wifi.
I've looked at those documents...that's how I knew to try all of those other fixes.
It is a linksys. That should not be an issue...as I said, it works fine with my brand new Asus Windows 7 computer.
    A few things:
If you have read the Apple documents why did you say, "I cannot access the support document that you provide in other links because it says it is 'damaged'."? Also, who is you ?
Testing the iPod Touch WiFi on another network will give you a baseline as to whether the WiFi in your iPod Touch is working at all. If it doesn't work on other networks then it may need service/replacement.
What model Linksys router do you have? What kind of security are you using WEP, WPA, WPA2? How is it configured? (see my previous post for what's relevant). Is it 802.11g?, 802.11n? Do you have the latest router firmware?
Note also that just because one device seems to work OK on a WiFi network doesn't prove that the network is golden. Not all devices use the same features of the Wireless 802.11g/n protocols. Low-power devices are different than desktop computers.
Have you tried testing with security turned off? (This check is suggested in the Apple documents).

Would you please try manually set the DNS address on client NIC to the IP of your server, then try run the connector again?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

My Canon MX 922 does not scan. My printer is connected via cable. Wireless doesn't work either.  I get an error message with multiple suggestions but none of them apply to my situation.
I am so dissatisfied with this printer.  I'm sorry I got it from Amazon because now it is a hassle to return it.  I will never buy another Canon.
The printer menus are confusing.  I hate using it.  I loved my previous Canon which finally stopped working after many years, that's why I purchased a newer Canon model.  Never again.  Stick with cameras.
    Marcy Hotz

This note won't be as angry and frustrated as the last one...
Because I still had my old printer drivers and other applications on my hard drive, I think the application was trying to connect with the old printer.  I deleted all the old stuff.
I also had several scanning applications on my drive which just confused me.
When I used the actual Canon MX922 application, I was able to scan but could only save as JPG, TIF or BMP (and one more, I forget which).  So I did some research on the Canon site and found out how to save documents as PDF files using the Canon IJ Scan Utility.
It works now.  So I'm satisfied, will keep this maching.  I just had to take some time, sit down and focus on the problem.

  • Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router and High Speed Internet

So I got a deal in the mail to get an upgrade to [50/25] Mbps Internet (I currently have [15/5]...when I was reviewing it on line this message came up...
Verizon will provide up to [50/25] Mbps Internet with a wired connection. If you use your Internet primarily for wireless or WiFi connections, you have the option to upgrade to Verizon's new FiOS GigE Wireless N Router which will maximize your speed delivered through your wireless connection.
Upon completion of your order, you'll be provided with information for purchasing a router at Verizon's online equipment and accessories store.
I am VERY interested in getting super fast internet...my current internet is really good but it wouldnt hurt to bump it up.  I have several devices using internet in the home...most of them wireless (including my PS3).  I currently use a Verizon Actiontec router.
So here is my question...do I really need to get the above router to take advantage of that [50/25]? Also one other thing...My house is fairly large and I would really like to have two routers...is it possible to use two routers or a setup to have one upstairs and another downstairs?
Thanks in advance for the answers!
    -Jest

There are a lot of variables that affect wireless range.
Walls, interference, other networks in the area, etc.
You don't indicate which older Actiontec you have.
Wireless capabilities also vary by Actiontec hardware revision (A,C,D,E,F,G,I).
In general, wireless range for 802.11n is somewhat less than 802.11g, even though the bandwidth is higher.
This is especially true on the 5Ghz band (which the latest Actiontec doesn;t support).
If you only need another 10 feet, you could try moving the router, or replacing the antenna with a high gain antenna.

  • How to connect New Airport Time Capsule to non Apple asdl router

    Guys,
I have just purchased a new AirPort Time Capsule to back up the various macs in my house. I want to connect it to my wireless router which is a non apple product but the setup instructions are a little unclear to me.
My current router has simply a phone line connector and the power source coming into it. Do I simply connect an ethernet cable from the Airport to the Router. And if so, do I use the single Ethernet WAN port or one of the three Ethernet LAN ports on the rear of the airport? I assume the other end of the cable goes into any of the Ethernet slots on the back of my router which are marked 'Ethernet', or would it go into the socket marked 'Broadband WAN'?
Appreciate your help and if anyone is willing to speak on phone, I am very ahppy to call you in the next couple of hours! I am in the UK
    Best, Anthony

    thanks LaPastengue!
    Here is what ive got
What ATT router do you have? Exact make and model please.
        gateway 2wire from at&t
What TC do you have.. Latest AC tall one?? Or older one?? If older. .please tell us the model number. A1409 for example from the base mat.
yes I have the latest airport time capsule 2TB
Please tell us the full setup.. what is currently plugged into the main modem router??
The Main modem route has an ethernet cord plugged in the other side of the cord is plugged into the phone      jack
Do not plug the TC in first.. plug a single ethernet TC to the computer.. Hmm. so I need an additional ethenet cord to plug the TC into the computer? Leaving the router plugged in as is?
Open the airport utility and change the TC to bridge mode.
    https://discussions.apple.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-23706673-32722 6/450-411/bridgev6AU.png
Update the TC and then plug it into the ATT modem and plug it into your computer or use the wireless and then tell us what happens.

  • Migration assistant stalled ( 110 hours, after 30  hours ). How else can I transfer my data from PC to new iMac without wireless migration assistant?

i am a new mac user
    i have a new imac
was trying to transfer data from old pc to imac using migration assistant ( wirelessly )
i had done it once already, but i noticed that although it took about 8 hours, very little data from the c drive was actually transferred ( i had not noticed i had to designated folders to copy )
so i did it again, targetting folders on the D drive and my external hard drive F - lots of data ( about 300 GB )
after an hour i noticed that the estimated time for completion was 88 hours ! i did let it run for about 30 hours anyway and hoped for the best ...
this morning when i woke up the time remaining was estimated at 42 hours, but then it suddenly jumped to 110 hours !!!
when i came home 8 hours later, it was still at 110 hours, so i stopped it - i assumed it had crashed ...
i got a message that one folder on my pc might have been lost - corrupted
incredibly, after more than 30 hours, no data had actually been transferred to my new mac !!!!
in any case, i see now that migration assistant created a new user account anyway, which i do not want
    SO
how can i transfer data from my pc laptop to my new imac, preferrably with a direct cable connection as opposed to wireless, directly into my main account
and i how can i delete the other account migration assistant created in the initial "successful" transfer
    thanks

  • TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect.  Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless.  I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect.  My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless.  The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • My ethernet no longer works now that I configured my new laptop to wireless

I recently connected my new laptop to wireless. Once I did that, my Desktop computer could no longer connect to the internet using ethernet router. This happened immediately after I configured the wireless on my laptop. Please help. Thanks.

    Hi,
When I got the new laptop, I had called SBC to help me set up the wireless on it. The helper reassigned a password for my 2Wire wireless account (an easy to remember 10-digit code). After the helper created that new password, I used it to sign onto wireless internet on my new laptop, and it worked immediately.
A minute later, I went to my iMac and it was completely disconnected from the internet. So in order to get on the internet at all on my iMac, I had to set up the airport on it with the new 10-digit code I had used for my new laptop. But I really want my iMac to have DCHP capability since wireless seems slow and sometimes unreliable.
Oh, and I am not using a router. I am just using a switch. I don't understand how it could be a switch problem, however, if I have an old Powerbook (without any wireless capability) connected to the ethernet via wire through the switch, too (the same switch the iMac is plugged into), and it works great. It's just my iMac that can't do DHCP.
