Connect Outlook to Exchange 2007 in separate domain

As part of a merger, we've been asked to discontinue our Exchange 2010 email environment.  We would need to connect up our current email users (over a point to point connection with firewall in between) to the other organizations Exchange 2007 server
with completely new email accounts/addresses, via Outlook client.  I'm wondering if this is even possible.  Can our Outlook client talk to an Exchange 2007 server if Outlook exists in a native Exchange 2010 environment?

Yes you certainly should be able to do that. So long as you're able to connect to the remote Exchange server then you should simply be prompted for login details to access it, since obviously your local login details won't work, at which point you simply
enter the login details provided for the remote exchange server. Obviously you also need to add the remote domain before the username, eg <domain>\<username> to force it to authenticate with that domain login rather than it assuming you're logging
in using a login from your existing domain.
We've got several clients who have their mailboxes hosted on our exchange servers, most of which are running in domain environments, and in fact a few of which have old Exchange servers still running on their networks when we first set them up.

  • Error while installing 2nd exchange 2007 on our domain

    We are installing the 2nd exchange 2007 on our domain - for obvious reasons of not able to upgrage the exisitng version to SP3 RU10 - as the server crashes everytime we do an update.
    So we thought we will setup a second new exchange 2007 server with all HT MB & CAS & update it fully and move the mailboxes etc.
    1st Exchange Server: EXCH01
    2nd Exchange Server: EXCH02
    We are doing a fresh install on a fresh vmware machine
    OS: Windows Server Enterprise Service Pack 2
    Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1
    During the hub transport installation part we ran into an error
    Exchange Server component Hub Transport Role failed.
    Error: Error:
    Property IsProvisionedServer cannot be set on this object because it requires the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. Current version of the object is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).
    Log Name: Application
    Source: MSExchangeSetup
    Event ID: 1002
    Now I am unable to uninstall the application as well, even while uninstalling the same error is thrown.
    Also, when we open the EMC on 1st exchange server we get an error saying
    "Warning:
    Object PGCMAIL01 has been corrupted and it is in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors have occurred:
    Warning:
    Cannot calculate value of property "AdminDisplayVersion": "SerialNumber property is not present.".

    Hi,
    According to your description, I understand that failed install second Exchange 2007 with error “Property IsProvisionedServer cannot be set on this object because it requires the object to have version 0.1 (8.0.535.0) or later. Current version of the object
    is 0.0 (6.5.6500.0).”.
    If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
    Which current Exchange version are you used in your environment?
    I want to double confirm whether run Setup /PrepareAD and Setup /PrepareDomain to complete the prerequisite preparation. More details about Preparing Active Directory for Exchange 2007, for your reference:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb288907(v=exchg.80).aspx. If not, please run it and try again.
    Besides, we can use ADSIEdit to double check the version and get more clear-cut error message in Exchange Setup log.
    Thanks

    I have a client who has Outlook 2013. He needs to connect to a 2007 server and a 2003 server . I have not issues with connecting to the 2007 server.  What would be the best way to connect the 2003 server?  I have tried connecting the domain directly

  • Crossover, Outlook and Exchange 2007

    Hi
    So our company has just upgraded our server to Exchange 2007(it was 2003) and I'm having real problems getting my Arch setup to play nice.
    I was using Evolution to connect to it and this did everything that I wanted it too.
    The evolution-exchange plugin, however, only seems to work with Exchange 2003. I tried the evolution openchange option, but this doesn't allow me to access public folders(essential), send completely grabled emails, and crashes all the time.
    So I have now decided that running Outlook in wine is the best option. After trying for a while I discovered that outlook doesn't run at all in normal Wine, so I'm trying out Crossover(v9).
    Everything installs fine, but when i go to add the exchange server account, it pops up a dialog asking for my username and password. Once i enter them and hit return, the dialog just reappears over and over and never actually lets me in.
    I have tried doing the exact same process in crossover in a Ubuntu VM, and it all works fine, but if i package it up and bring it back to arch, the same problem pops up, and there's still no way to get out.
    This really is a killer problem for me as the only way I can access my mail and public folders is through a VM on my machine, but the poor Atom N280 is struggling running that with anything else.
    Anyone have any idea how I can fix this, or have some sort of alternative way to get the same thing?

    Didn't test it, but

    However, public folders in general could be a problem:

    In thunderbird, you can try to set /public in IMAP account advanced server

  • Revoked Certificate on Outlook 2010/Exchange 2007/SBS 2008

    Hi All,
    I have an issue that has been frustrating me for quite some time now.
    Our setup is SBS 2008 with Exchange 2007. 2 Weeks ago we had to renew our certificate for remote.xxxxxxx.com. This was done through the SBS consoles > Network > Fix my Network and followed the wizard. and this worked fine.
    I have however got one user who has a problem and he informs me that this is been an issue since before the cert was renewed.
    He is a remote laptop user who visits the office maybe 5 times a month. When launching Outlook 2010 on his machine (Win 7 x64) it comes up with the error: Security Alert, Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However,
    there is a problem with the Site's security certificate. (Red X) The security certificate for this site has been revoked. This site should not be trusted. Then OK and View Certificate buttons.
    I have tried to use the View Certificate to install the certificate to the correct store but no luck. Also tried exporting the cert from the server and installing manually into Trusted Root CA, via MMC Certificates Snap-In and no luck.
    I'd like to mention that If i log into a different user, on the same domain, on the same laptop, the issue is gone. So it's local to his profile on the laptop.
    Plus, he cannot access the OWA on his laptop either, but again a different user - same laptop can. I have verified that the OWA is still working from another machine in the business, that is using the same certificate. I cannot understand why the
    subject machine thinks the certificate has been revoked when I don't believe it has.
    Can anybody please shed some light on this situation for me - any avenues to explore would be hugely appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Nicky

    I hope this helps

  • Can we connect Outlook with Exchange 2013 with the default Self-signed certificate?

    Hi,
    the question is very simple, but after several days searching in this forums and in the web I have not been able to find a definitive answer YES or NOT. I know that Self-signed certificates are not for a production enviroment and only for labs and we must
    purchase a third party certificate or get one from a internal CA.
    Anyone can answer this question with no doubt?
    Thanks in advance!
    jspt

    Hi Abhi,
    I wrote this question because in a recent migration to 2013 from 2007 we've found with this problem: you can view it in the post http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/1ddd1e81-1061-4461-95dd-13de653ef8fe/outlook-cant-connect-with-exchange-2013-after-migration-from-exchange-2007?forum=exchangesvrdeploy.
    Also I have installed a new exchange 2013 in a lab enviroment and I also have unabled to connect from a Outlook 2013. The problem is the same Outlook is unable to detect the exchange server. Many people in this forums told me that have to be a certificate
    problem and for that I posted this question. Honestly, I don't know how to do for Outlook can be connect with Exchange 2013. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
    Anyway thanks for your answer.

    Hi,
    Make sure that the required ports are allowed over he device. The users can access through port 25/443 etc. and should be opened. Better, to go for a test at www.testconnectivity.microsoft.com

  • Outlook 2010/Exchange 2007 Calendar Will Not Display

    Hi Folks,
    I've been working on an issue for the past 3 weeks and would love some assistance.
    Here's the problem:
    A user indicated that she was using Outlook normally, flipping between the Mail and Calendar tab. When she went back to the Calendar tab, the navigation pane switched to the Calendar tab, but the main pane and ribbon were still showing Mail content.
    The only way for her to display her Calendar properly is to right-click on Calendar and select "Open in New Window" - but even then if she goes to the Mail tab, she cannot go back to her Calendar again.
    Please note we are running on Exchange version 8.3.327.1
    Here are the fixes I've attempted:
    New OST file
    New Mail profile
    Ran outlook.exe with the following switches:  /safe /cleanrules /cleanview /resetfolders /resetnavpane
    Please note: resetnavpane breaks the OST file and requires me to create a new OST file for the user
    Open Mailbox on a different computer - that same issue occurs
    Open Mailbox in webmail - the calendar is displayed properly
    Odds n Ends: Hitting CTRL + 6, Hitting F5.
    I've run out of ideas and would appreciate any ideas to resolve this problem
    Thanks!
    Derek

    Hi Derek,
    It should not be an Exchange issue. Based on my research, there is no feature in Exchange server can configure the Outlook reading pane or navigation pane performance. Since there is only one user encounter this issue and OWA can work well, please check
    the following points to narrow down the issue:
    1. Please configure your Outlook account in your colleague’s domain-joined computer with your colleague’s domain account to check whether the issue is caused by your Roaming Profile.
    2. Configure Outlook account outside the domain by using Outlook Anywhere to check whether the issue is caused by any policy in your domain.

  • DPM 2012 - Protect Exchange 2007 in untrusted domain (either via Creds or Certificates)

    Hi,
    I am trying to protect an Exchange 2007 Server which is in an untrusted domain.
    I have tried using both credentials (isNonDomainServer) and via Certificates and have no joy.  Both methods work in terms of getting the agent installed and communicating with DPM.  The agent shows OK in the console and I can browse
    fine when creating a new PG.
    The problem I have is that "All Exchange Storage Groups" is not available as a selection to backup, obviously neither are any of the information stores.
    First question, is backup of Exchange supported in an untrusted domain?  This says it is:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh757801.aspx  but I read conflicting advice elsewhere.
    Second question, this is the biggie - any ideas on how to get Exchange visible as a selection?
    So far I have:
    Confirmed that LCR is not configured (I am not sure if it *was* at some point though, because there is a disk on the server labled LCR)
    Checked in the DPM agent directory locally and I can see that ExchangeCmdletsWrapperCurr.errlog is created and/or updated when I expand the server name on the DPM server and the server and information stores are listed in the file.  This tells me communication
    is fine, and that the DPM agent on the exchange server can "see" exchange
    Checked the Exchange VSS writer and it is listed and in a healthy state
    Thanks!

    Upgraded to System Centre 2012 R2 and no difference.  I am assuming that its a compatability\support issue, i.e its not supported.  The documentation says otherwise, but its confusing to say the least.

    Running Exchange 2007 latest and greatest service pack and rollup with Outlook 2013 fully patched. When users attempt to share their calendar, the recipient receives an email that says "This sharing message is not valid. All action buttons have been
    disabled" and "(Sender not verified) - Calendar".
    We're not using IMAP or POP. Was working in the past and stopped working.

    Hi,
    Is Exchange account the default account in Outlook?
    Does this issue occur on all users? (If no, please try to recreate problematic user’s profile to check this issue)
    Please check the following setting:
    Open AD users and computers.
    Right-click on problematic user to properties.
    Under General tab, check if the E-mail field is right.

  • Cannot Connect to Microsoft Exchange 2007

    Hello everyone,
    I'm sure this question has been answered somewhere on here already but I can't seem to find it.  I am trying to connect to my school employee e-mail which is on Microsoft Exchange 2007.  In the mail setup wizard I have Exchange 2007 selected as account type, for my incoming server name I put owa.school.edu, my username and password and it will not connect, giving me the following error message:
         The Exchange 2007 server "owa.school.edu" is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise the      server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
    Now I've used this same information on my iPhone and iPad and haven't had a problem synching with those decices.  Why will this not work with the mail app on my MacBook? It may also be helpful to note I am running version 10.6.8 of Mac OS X.

    What is really weird from Apple is that the Iphone is connecting to exchange without wondering wether it's an exchange 2003 or 2007, but Mail does....
    I connected my Iphone in a matter of minutes, but I just realized that it is a 2003 exchange server that I'm connected with.
    So I asked my Admin wether I can connect thru IMAP.

    I just purchased the new iPhone4. After moving from the 3G that was running fine I moved over to my new Iphone4. When setting up my Exchange account that runs on Exchange 2007 I see that the device registered on my exchange server fine and on the phone it will register the mailbox, but it will never update the Active Sync policy on my server or sync the device. On the phone side I get a "Cannot get Mail"

  • Problem connecting to MS Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008

    I am having problems connecting to Exchange via cfexchangeconnection. Our ColdFusion environment is CF9 Enterprise on Win 2008, and the Exchange host is Win SBS 2008 (which uses IIS7).
    After having worked through the documentation and following all procedures outlined at
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec14f31 -7fed.html
    plus googling intensively, we have the following method to test the connection
    <cfexchangeconnection action="open"
             connection="thisExchangeConnection"
             server="portal.mydomain.com"
             protocol="https"
             formBasedAuthentication="true"
             formBasedAuthenticationURL="https://portal.mydomain.com/owa/auth/owaauth.dll"
             mailboxname="myMailBox"
             username="myUsername"
             password="myPassword" />
    <cfdump var="#thisExchangeConnection#">
    <cfexchangeconnection action="close"
             connection="thisExchangeConnection" />
    The IIS7 implementation in SBS 2008 is quite a lot different to Win 2008, so there are some question marks around some steps in the above documentation. However, we have made sure that:-
    1) you can use the credentials above to login via a web browser
    2) WebDav is on in IIS
    3) there is no IWA and forms based authentication is on
    4) certificates are installed correctly on both the CF and Exchange servers
    5) the myUsernameaccount has correct permissions in iis/owa/exchange
    Despite this, the net result is always
    Access to the Exchange server denied.
    Ensure that the user name and password are correct.
    From research it seems that a lot of people have issues where the underlying problem is actually an Exchange 440 timeout error where the password in the IUSR_<servername> and IWAM_<servername> (IIS/Active Directory) is out of sync.
    I was pinning my hopes on the above being the problem but now I find that in SBS 2008 there is no IWAM_<servername> server account.
    All this leads me to ask is SBS 2008 actually compatible with the cfexchange tags in CF9? There is nothing in the documentation that I can find that syays that it isn't, but given the amount of time we've spent on what should be straightforward I am wondering if we are on a hiding to nothing. Anyone from Adobe care to comment?
    If anyone has managed to get this to work specifically with SBS 2008, or has any advice I'd be grateful to here from you.

    Hi,
    As said by Sneff , I would also recommend to enable Logging to get more detailed information. Also follow
    Configuration of POP/IMAP on SBS 2008 Refer to :

    As per the error code, you need to follow
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514/EN-US
    I would also disable AV on both Client machine and TEST , including the Filters of AV.
