  • How to Install a parallel port printer to usb port of Pavilion dv5 Notebook

In trying to install my HP DeskJet 610C Parallel Port printer to my HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, I followed instructions given by HP Support some two years back.
I connected up the two units through a Parallel-to-USB ports cable. The PC loaded and confirmed suitable driver. (Following advice from sites on the Internet, I have made repeated attempts to carefully install the printer, but to no avail).
Upon my issuing the Print instruction, the printer invariably prints two copies of what appears to be 'gibberish' in two lines at the start of the sheet. Thereafter it picks up and then ejects 6-8 sheets of blank paper.
Any help in resolving this anomalous situation will be be most welcome and much appreciated.
I might add that the printer works normally when connected in parallel to an older, Compaq Armada 1750 Notebook (XP OS). In this instance too, the Parrallel/USB worked as in the Pavilion PC, above.
    This question was solved.

    Hi khalidem,
Sounds like you have a communication problem with the printer cables. Have you tried a new parallel to USB cable or adapter?

  • Satellite A200: How connect a parallel port printer?

Probably a very silly question, but would like to connect A200 series laptop to a parallel port printer that does not have a USB port... what is the best option?

    Hi
You ask for the best way?
Well, you have got only one way?
You need an USB to parallel adapter. Check in the google for some offers.
I searched in the google and found some good options.
    Maybe this could be a good choice;

  • Parallel port printer connection

I have an HP 6122 parallel port printer which I've attached to my MacBook Pro running on OSX 10.4.11 through a connecting cable to the USB port (I've tried both the left and right USB port). I've downloaded driver from HP, but computer doesn't see the printer. Suggestions?

Hi urdog, and a warm welcome to the forums!
In System Profiler>Hardware>USB, is anything shown for it there?
Have you tried another PCL/hp printer in Printer Setup Utility? Have you got any hp drivers installed?
PCL 3 is quite old, but what happens if you try setting it up with an older hp driver?

  • Parallel Port & Printing

    Hi,
I am new to ArchLinux and have been using Gentoo since qutie a while. After installing nearly everything I need I am now struggling with the printer setup. I guess this is due to a problem with my parallel port, cause it does not show up in the selection box of cups. I can choose serial and usb ports, but no parallel ports. I have installed some modules like
    lp & parport
I also have cups running of course and it connects. My question is the kernel (2.6.4) must be compiled with support for the parallel port by default, right? At least after loading these modules it should work. What am I missing?
    Thanks already!!!

Good advice!  Haven't solved it yet, but FWIW I can read the cups documentation.  So I set the log to debug mode and here it is:

  • Java - Parallel Port Printing

    Hi there
i have connected a DOT- MATRIX printer to my parallel port.i opened port lpt1 as if it were a file .Printing is fine. But if the printer is offline or disconnected my program does not throw an exception.I need to find out whether the printer is connected or not..

Might this be because of the windows print spooler? Or have you turned that off?

  • How to have ethernet connected PC use printer and USB HD connected into TC

So I just got a new Time Capsule (500GB) and the way I have it connected is the cable modem goes through it and then another ethernet cable connects to my desktop PC (no wireless on this PC). Then I have my USB printer and USB HD going into the USB port on the Time Capsule via a USB Hub. Airport utility sees both the HD and the Printer.
My problem is that I can't get my PC to see the HD or the Printer. How does a PC connected through a ethernet cable and not wireless see and use these two peripherals? I have Bonjour for Windows installed but I thought that was for a wireless connection? Also is there a way to open some kind of configuration thing for Bonjour on my PC? Where on my PC would I find the HD and Printer (like in Windows Explorer or Network Places), I can't find these devices anywhere except when looking in the Airport Utility Manual Setup.
Any help would be much appreciated. I don't have much technical knowledge about networks.
Edit: One last thing is that before getting the TimeCapsule, I had a regular D-Link router running my wireless network and the printer was connected directly to the PC. This setup allowed my Macbook to use the printer and access any shared folders/files on my PC. My Mackbook was recently stolen and my new one will arrive next week, so right now I can't really test whether the Macbook can see and use the HD and Printer if they are connected to the Time Capsule. I'm wondering if I should just go back to plugging the HD and printer into the PC and running the network sharing that way????

Just wanted to bump this question to see if anyone has any answers. My main issue is seeing the time capsule from my Windows desktop and the connected harddrive. However, my new problem is that whenever I connect the USB Windows Formated HD to the Time Capsule the whole thing just stops working and my PC and my MacBook can't read the Time Capsule at all until I turn of the USB HD. Any help would be appreciated.

  • I can connect my lexmark printer by usb but not wireless

i can connect my lexmark printer s400 series by usb but not wirelessly any thoughts please

I'm having the same issue. On my MBP 15" OS 10.7.3 the Lexmark printer does not connect to WIFI. It works on the USB connection. In wifi however it will work on the Virtual Box Windows 7 partition.
In my logic this means the printer is properly connected to the wifi (green indicator and working with Virtual Box and Windows 7) The MBP is properly connected to the wifi network as Virtual Box works in the Mac's environment. The printer is present in the System Preferences indicating it is Idle and does have a IP address.
When I do send a document to the printer it just sits in the Que and in System Preferences the status goes to Busy. In the Que it also indicates it is busy until it tmes out and indicate that communication with the printer is a problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Problem Connecting to Shared Printer on Leopard from Windows XP

    Hey guys,
Just installed Leopard yesterday, and I have a Canon PIXMA MP160 printer connected via USB.
I have set the printer to be Shared, and enabled Printer Sharing in the Sharing preferences.
However, when I try and connect to the printer from a Windows XP laptop, it says: Access Denied, Unable to Connect.
I imagine that this is because I would have provide a username / password combo in order to access the network resources on my Leopard machine. I just can't figure out how to send the credentials, or disable the login necessity if needs be.
If this isn't the problem, or if it cannot be fixed then the alternative is to connect the printer to my router, which shares it via SMB. Now that's fine when I want to connect to it from Windows, but I can't figure out a way to set it up on Leopard.
The MP160 driver that comes with Leopard isn't marked as "Modern" which, according to the documentation means that it cannot be used to install IP or Windows Shared printers.
So my question is, to sum up, is there a way to fix the access problem when trying to access a shared printer on Leopard from Windows, and is there any way I can install and use the printer from Leopard while its shared from my Router via SMB?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit:
I just thought it would be helpful to say that I'm able to connect and browse through SMB shares from Windows Systems, and I'm able to connect and browse through shared volumes on Leopard from Windows. It's just the printing that's not playing fair.

I had Bonjour for Windows working on two XP machines before I upgraded to Leopard. After that when the Bonjour printer would not work I deleted it from the XP machines and re-ran the Bonjour Setup App. It can find the printer every time, but it will not finish and will give me an error instead.
I've also verified that I have Printer Sharing turned on and the printer is specifically set to be shared. I'm out of ideas.
Has anyone heard reports of Bonjour 1.0.4 not working with Leopard or just being buggy under similar circumstances? If that's not the problem, then I must be missing something. Suggestions welcome.

Got a local password/username on your Win7 ? Create the same on the 2003R2 as you seem in workgroup
    net user /add useraccountname mypassword
net localgroup users useraccountname /add  (I think it's users the name, you can validate to be sure) or
net localgroup administrators useraccountname /add in worst case.
nb, or add the user guess in the printer share security

  • Thunderbolt port not working in new Windows 8.1 32 bit install

I have a new HP Zbook 15 G2 that came with 64 bit operating systems for both Windows 8 and 7. I chose to install the windows 7 version, and the thunderbolt port is recognized properly and works fine. Howver due to the need for video capture in a 32 bit system, I chose to install a new windows 8.1 32 bit system on a new ssd. The install went great and everything is updated and working except the thunderbolt port. I have searched for a compatible driver, but I cannot find one. Is there a way to get this thunderbolt port working in this os?

I had a similar issue after upgrading my windows 8 os to 8.1. The volume bar would move, but the actual volume coming out did not change. Downloading the latest windows 8.1 audio driver from Lenovo fixed it for me.

  • Parallel port printing problem

I was printing quite fine on LaserJet 2100 (I was even surprised how easily I've set it all up, thought it woudl be more compliacted). I even tried different drivers, all worked fine so far. Now I acquired LaserJet 2200 which has USB in addition to LPT so I can print on my desktop via USB and on laptop via LPT.
I'll have USB cable no sooner than tomorrow so I tried to print on LPT on the 2200 as for now. But only strange line of letters came out every time and the printing job never finished, it was still printing the same crappy line of some stuff again and again. I even deleted all the 2100 printers I have set up and added only the 2200 but it was still the same.
So I wanted to try at least the refiled toner (I bought 5 these toners and the 2200 was extra bonus) on my 2100 so I added it. But what, the same problem. When I try test pages, there comes something like lines of settings for the printer and it still wants to print infinite. I noticed there is 5012 error in HPLIPS. I tried setting the printers up in CUPS and HPLIP also, under root and normal user, still the same for both. Reinstalling HPLIP didn't help, different drivers behave the same way. What's wrong? Printers should be fine, testing page directly on them cames out good.
Even it worked before without being in lp group, I added myself to it, but I still get the same communication error. I'll also look for another parallel cable, but that would be strange, the cable was working before - I've printed several hundred pages in past few weeks.
ADD// tried USB printer (2200), printed under Win 7 on desktop and Arch on laptop (not flawlessly, I did not succeed in printing with EconoMode under any of the systems), however using the parallel it behaved the same crappy way. I could not print now because I disassembled the 2200 little too much during process of changing some moving (rubber) parts between the two. Now 2100 works, 2200 blinks all the time…

Have you considered the fact that there may be something wrong with the printer and/or connection?

Potential Solution - There are a number of solutions for this problem but I thought one that worked in my case might be of interest to others.  I have a newer system running  on a Asus Z87plus Saber-tooth Motherboard.  My system supports USB 2.0 and 3.0.  I believe one of the causes of this issue is interference with Apples USB drivers from the USB 3.0 ports as I've seen similar problems with other USB 2.0 devices.  To test this theory, I tried all of the various solutions in my system to confirm none of them worked to resolve the issue.  These included removing and reinstalling iTunes, attempting to open the security of the iPhone, looking at the Device Manager and upgrading to the latest Apple Driver, stopping and restarting the Apple Mobile Device Support service, installing the latest version of iTunes(rev 12.0135) and also upgrading the iPhone's bios to 8.01.  Even tried connecting the device and than power cycling.  Basically none of the standard articles seemed to make any difference.
To get things working on my system, I went into the bios and disabled the "Intel xHCI Mode".  I've done some searching on line and found that this bios setting basically disables USB 3.0.  With USB 3.0 turned off, the windows system notices the iPhone 6 just fine as did iTunes as well.  I then turned this feature back on and found that windows and iTunes stopped noticing the iPhone again.  I  repeated this test several additional times with the same results each time.  Finally I tried a new iPhone 4 with the feature on and off and its behavior matched that of the  iPhone 6.  So, if you have a system with USB 3.0 ports and you have tried everything else, check to see if disabling this feature helps get things going.  BTW, you can find loads of information on this bios setting by simply doing a search of "Intel xHCI Mode" in any of the popular search engines.

It took me a few tries to figure it out. iTunes keeps multiple backups from each device. I had to choose the correct one, and then it worked. Thanks!
