Connect PC to Mac

So far, I've managed to log in to my local network (Airport Extreme) from a Sony Vaio (Vista Home Premium). So, on the Vaio I have full access to the internet, and I can see/use my Public folder on the mac. I assume the network setup is fairly OK, but yet on my Mac I can't see/use the Public folder from the Vaio (sharing is checked).
Can anyone shed some light ? TIA

Check out the following iFelix article to see if it will help: Sharing files between a Windows Vista Home Edition PC and a Mac running OS X Leopard 10.5

  • How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?

    Goal
    - I am trying to share both my PC and Mac through my Apple TV2 on the "Computers" home sharing menu.
    - These are 2 seperate iTunes accounts as they are 2 different owners of the PC and Macbook.
    - However, home sharing only allows me to have one at a time, can I not have 2 computers connected?
(The menu is in fact plural and says "Computers" not "Computer")
    Attempt
-I turn on home sharing on my PC with my PC iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as PC
-I turn on home sharing on my Mac with my Mac iTunes account, it then shows up on the "Computers" list as Mac, but it deletes the PC share
    Troubleshoot
-So I started from scatch and connected the PC share with my PC itunes account, it shows up,
-Then I connect the Mac home sharing with the same iTunes login as my PC, but it also erases my PC from the "Computers" list and just displays the Mac.
    Question
-How do I connect both a Mac and PC to Apple TV Home Sharing?
-I want them both to show up in the "Computers" list.
-So the final result will look like this on my Apple TV menu:
    Computers
    -PC
    -Mac
whew... I'm out of breath... I hope there is an Apple Genius out there that can help.
    Thanks!

After retrying the home share with the SAME ITUNES ACCOUNT ON HOME SHARING I finally got it to work.

Mini works accessing MBP/Air and I can use Mini to input data or interact with screens of those computers.

Regarding your first question about bookmarks, I think you discovered the answer in when you pressed the address bar. The second tab there has your bookmarks.
As for the keyboard, I'm not sure why your Firefox is reacting so slowly; mine seems to show keyboards even when I don't want them. If you have accumulated a lot of history, perhaps that's an issue?
Did you use any third party software to move your Firefox data from internal memory to the storage card?

You should be able to copy them to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases and you can then sync them to the iPhone (or you could re-download them directly on the iPhone)

  • Connecting to a Mac Mini

Hello all - I have a Mac Mini which I am trying to connect to remotely.  I don't not have a screen for the mini, but am attemping to connect it to a flat screen LCD monitor/TV thru HDMI.  Problem is the screen doesn't seem to recognize the resoultion which has been set for the Mini (it used to be used with an Apple Monitor, so the resoultion settings are probably to high for the LCD).
Here's the bigger problem: I would like to connect to the Mini via screen sharing, but it was configured to join a different network.   I tried hooking it up directly to my network via the ethernet, but no luck.
So now I am in the frustrating position of being unable to connect, unless I go buy an expensive video adapter.
Any ideas as to how to connect to it welcomed.  I own quite a bit of Mac kit, and have a number of dongles, but seem unable to come up with the right permutation!

What you probably have to do is changing the resolution, which is of course hard to do if you have no access, or rather cant see what you are doing.
For remote access you have to make sure that in 'System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screen Sharing' is activated. There it will also tell you the VNC IP to connect to the Mac. Then you can usually connect form the same network without any issues.
Do you still have the default adapter to connect it to a regular monitor to tinker with it?
The only cheap alternative would be going to amazon and getting a third party adapter for cheap.
I know a lot of people have issues with those adapters though (I'm an IT admin for a callcenter and we have 60 Mac Minis running and all of them have a cheapo ($4) 'Thunderbolt to DVI' adapter so the agents have 2 displays and all of them have been working for half a year just fine so far).

The circuit of my macbook is dead yet the hard drive is fine.  I need to access a file from the hard drive, how can i do this? The mac turns on the screen freezes as bright blue.  Is there a cable i can connect to another mac that will let me transfer the file?

There is another option if the Macbook will start up in Target Disk Mode.
Restart the computer while holding down the T key. If you see the firewire symbol moving around on the screen you can connect this one to another one in TDM. You will need a suitable cable to connect the two Macs.

The Mini-DVI to DVI adapter is designed for the iMac (Intel Core Duo), MacBook, and 12-inch PowerBook G4 — allowing you to connect to an external DVI monitor. It can also be used in combination with the Apple DVI to ADC adapter to support older Apple flat panel Studio or Cinema Displays.

  • "Connection Failed" when trying to connect to another Mac on my wireless network.

    Hi,
I am having an intermittent problem with the connectivity between my iMac and Mac Pro - the latter is the media server for our house. Occasionally my Apple TV's seem to lose connectivity to the Mac Pro too which is a real pain. Both Macs are running Mavericks and the Apple TVs are running the latest software too.
If I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder on my iMac, the Mac Pro is there but when I click on it I get "Connection Failed". Rebooting both computers seems to fix the problem but is far from ideal when mid way through a film!
The messages in console on my iMac when I try to connect to the Mac Pro in Finder is:
    14/03/2014 10:20:33.542 sharingd[253]: SDSharePointBrowser::handleOpenCallBack returned -5999
14/03/2014 10:23:34.180 locationd[82]: could not open write stream for /var/db/locationd/clients.plist
I'm not sure if this provides a clue?
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Rob

I've managed to connect OK using Connect as. So at least that part is solved. I will see if I can get any diagnostics as to why the Apple TV drops out.

  • Hi I am trying to connect a new mac to an existing time capsule but Airport Utility is just not picking it up. What am I missing?

I have tried to connect the new mac to an existing time capsule both directly through ethernet and through wifi. Both times I get Internet connection OK but Airport Utility is stuck searching for the base station. I have two existing macs which are connected fine and have both been backing up quite happily. The first two macs are the same user (me) and the new one is for a different user in the house. All the macs are running Mavericks.
I have tried rebooting the time capsule and the new mac - didn't help.
Any information as to what I can try would be most welcome.
    Many thanks

    Hi All
I have solved my problem! It was the old chestnut the firewall issue. We have McAfee firewalls on our machines and the wifi network was set up as a public rather than a home network. I changed it to Home or Work and het presto the time capsule appeared. I didn't have this problem with the other machines at all.
    I hope this helps someone!!

Screen sharing setup in 10.5, 10.6 are described by the links by operating system.  10.7 is fairly similar to 10.6.
And if both Macs have Firewire, you can setup a Firewire over IP network for fast communication between machines.  Note if you have two different Firewire ports a 6 pin to 9 pin Firewire cable does exist.  There are no Firewire to USB cables.

  • How can i remotely connect to my mac without sharing my screen

    Hi,
I have a Mac at work to which I occasionally connect from another Mac at home. Now I would love to export the applications similar to Linux where I just set the display to another device. Alternatively, I would also use screen sharing if the remote Mac's screen would not turn on and invite everybody around to follow my work (i.e. the workstation should either stay locked, similar to when connecting to a Window machine with MS Remote Desktop) or it should remain blank.
I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard on all machines.
    Thanks for any suggestions,
    equinox

    TO JAISEN.....
not necessarily, every "computing" device (imac, TC, AEBS, pc) has its own separate set of ports. There is a way to achieve what your trying to do as I'm trying to accomplish the same thing, i have not fully gotten it working yet as i'm restricted to my network so any changes i do, i cant test till i go back to work and use their pc. So let me figure out my way and if i get it working ill tell you how i did it (looking for an alternative to mobile me). But back to your question. I'm going to explain the config settings in airport NAT forwarding. Just remember you imac has to have a static IP.
public udp port: "any port you want to use"- 3032
public tcp port: "same port as above" - 3032
private IP address: "the satic IP of you iMac" - 10.0.1.???
private udp and private tcp: 548
    that would be equivalent to
    "your-external-ip":3032
the way this works is that you router will take those port (3032) and know that you want to access the the port 548 on your imac ( the private ip),, basically the port 3032 is a substitute for port 548 on you imac.
I hope that helped, maybe you can help me.
I'm trying to access my airdisks remotely. im using that free dns thing, i thing its called dynDNS, and it works %100 as I use it to remote monitor my torrent downloads (transmission with clutch), so at work if i go to my server , i can access the remote torrenting easy because it works through the web browser, but i dont get how to access my airdisks. what do i need to do in windows to access is what im asking???
if you dont mind, i could email you my web address ( im kinda cautious of posting it) and maybe you can test it for me. Do you have a windows pc??

  • I have my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 A connected to my Mac Book Pro on a Wireless network. It works and

I have my Hp Officejet Pro 8500 A connected to my MAc Book Pro which is running Lion OS on a wireless network.  It works just fine and prints and everything.  The problem is a "HP Utility" window that pops up on my screen and says it is "connecting to device" and lists my printer.  It just runs and runs and the entire thing is gray - meaning I can't close it, cancel it, or anything. When you try to click on it, the arrow becomes the color wheel of death.   It is driving me crazy.  I have gone through settings, I have downloaded the latest drivers, I have looked in utilities, I have opened the printer folder and can't find where this thing is coming from or how to turn it off.  Please help.  And yes I have turned offf the computer and rebooted.

If you are using Snow Leopard or Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Restart your Mac
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If you want more features, you can download and install the Full Featured software from the "Support & Drivers" button at the top of this page, otherwise, basic printing and scanning will work without it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac. It says that I need to install the lastest version of itune (11.1) but when I try to update itunes it says that I have the current version 10.6.3. Can someone please help!

    Hi,
My iphone 4 won't connect to my mac book, it says that I need to install to latest version of itunes 11.1. When I go to itunes and try to update, it says that I have the latest version (10.6.3). Can someone please help me!
    thanks

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • NAS drives grayed out and can't connect to other Macs

    Hello All,
After upgrading my 15-inch, Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to Mavericks (10.9 13A603) my NAS storage drives are grayed out in Finder. I can't go directly to my NAS drive in Finder. I can't simply click on the NAS drives in Finder and see what is in the directory. The directories are grayed out!.
In order for me to connect to my NAS stotage drive I have to go to "DEVICES" on the leftside of the Finder window and then click on the MacBook Pro HD. From there I have to click on "Network." From "Network" I can get a slow connection to my NAS.
As for as connection to other Macs in my office, I have to take the same steps above. I can't connect directly to the other Macs in my office in Finder. Nether can the other Macs connect to other Macs! All Macs in the office are set up to allow both AFP and SMB. However, one lonely 2009 iMac in our office is still on Mountian Lion and it can connect to other Macs and the our NAS without problems.
One strange things this, I can do a Screen Share to the other Macs from my 2010 MacBook Pro! I can't connect directly in Finder, but I can do a Screen Share. Strange!
Is there a fix for this or was Marverick let out the jungle to earily?
    Help! and Thanks!

I forgot to add that everything was previously connected via an Airport express wireless system. I just got an Airport Extreme system which hasn't changed things a bit.

  • Is it possible to activate an ipad w/o an internet connection on a mac?

Is it possible to activate an ipad without an internet connection on my mac?
I have got a macbook pro with iTunes 10.1.2 (17) and an micro-sim card with a iPad 3G data plan, so I can use it directly with the iPad, but I have to activate the iPad at first.
I have NOT any internet connection on the macbook pro (because I am actually traveling). So do not recommend to go to the next Apple Store etc.
    Thank you.

You can register it when you get an Internet connection.

You cannot get a wifi connection anywhere? (hotel, library, airport, coffee shop, etc.)
Yes, I can. But it costs $30 for 10 MB (minimal use) at the hotel. Just to compare: a 3G data plan with 3GB traffic costs $50 monthly
