Connect Powermac G5 Dual 1.8ghz to HD TV.

I tried using the DVI - HDMI cable that I use on my macbook, but it doesn't work with my G5. Black screen and no picture on the tv. I tried to lower the resolution, but nothing happened.
My G5 has 2 video out (DVI and ADC), Do I have to buy an adapter for the ADC port to HDMI. Maybe the tv only works as second monitor?

I am confused so this is probably a dumb question, but how can using 1 stick be configured as a pair?
I would take the new stick out and use it as originally configured. When you get the second stick have at it.

  • Powermac G5 Dual 1.8Ghz RAM question

I purchased one stick of 1Gb RAM and installed it on the motherboard, but I didnt know it had to be installed in pairs so the computer wont recognize it. I made an order for a second stick and it should arrive in a couple of days. Can I use my computer with the one stick still in there, or do I need to remove it and install both at the same time?

  • PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8GHz Booting Up Problem, HELP!

*I have an Apple PowerMac G5 Dual CPU 1.8 GHz.*
*This machine has a problem where it will not always boot up. Basically when the machine is cold, it will powerer up, but then give 3 flashes of the power LED, which signifies a memory error. If you leave the machine on, after warming up for 15~30 minutes, this machine will often be able to be reset and then will boot up normally and work fine. This doesn't work 100% of the time but it does sometimes.*

Hi Kompefx, and a warm welcome to the forums!
How Much RAM do you have, can you pull 2 stick & try it?
See if you can Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.

  • Dual Displays on PowerMac PPC dual 1.8ghz

    Hello Mac users,
I have been trying to set my PowerMac PPC G5(vintage 2004) for dual displays.
I have two Apple cinema displays, either one will connect to the back of my computer via the ADC. The connector in the computer is an 18 pin (with funny jumper) female receptacle. It follows that the ADC on the display is 18 pin (with funny jumper) male connector. One of my monitors is brand new.
I am using a Radeon X800XTC card that has one ADC (female receptacle) and one DVI connector (also female).
Is this possible?? I did order what Apple told me would work, the DVI to ADC adapter, model M8661LL/B. I could not use this item on my system, as it comes with the exact opposite sex for the connectors! Also the Belkin adapter is the wrong sex as well.
Any ideas on how to connect two displays to this video card?? It is an AGP version.
    Thanks,
    eholz1

    Hello Guys,
Thanks for the info on this. I did figure out what MY problem was. Due to the info you gave me,
I took another GOOD look at my computer, to see who was connected to where!
The displays I have use the DVI port on the video card. I took a good look at the other port on the computer (dummy that I am!). This is the empty port, which HAPPENS TO BE THE ADC (Apple Display Connector)! So I have finally awakened! I do have the correct cable to go from the ADC to the DVI.
So, now all is well, but I do feel pretty stupid confusing the DVI connector for the ADC. I assumed that the connector in the monitors was ADC, and denying the fact that they did not have 30 pins, etc!
    Thanks for the help.

  • SATA Card for G5 Dual 1.8Ghz

I'm looking for an internal SATA card for my PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8Ghz. I've got a couple hard drives laying around that I wanted to RAID together with my Time Machine Backup drive. Instead of spending hours looking on Google, I figured I'd poll the masses.
Newegg.com has a ton but I want to make sure I get one that is compatible with my hardware.
    Thanks in advance!

The only sure thing is the Firmtek Seritek cards.
They are also the only ones that support boot to the connected drives.
Native OS X support is also an important point.
Firmtek also provides excellent tech support
After that, Highpoint has compatibles, and non compatibles.
They don't support boot, and, but can perform well enough.
If you take the path less taken, and get a card that uses generic Silicon Images drivers, then OS X support, and successful use, is highly variable (to say the least).

  • PowerMac G5 DP 1.8GHz/GeForce FX 5200 - DELL 2407WFP 24" LCD compatibility?

    Hi all,
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 (up-to-date) and would like to ask if there's anyone using and/or knowing about the following compatibility:
PowerMac G5 dual processor 1.8GHz with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (64MB VRAM)
    and
DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor
I have the PDF spec sheet for this DELL monitor, but unfortunately couldn't find accurate info about this particular and possible scenario.
    Related info:
Size (Viewable Image Screen): 24 inches (24-inch viewable image size)
    Optimal Resolution: 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz
Connector Type: Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP
Other Connectors/Features: S-Video, Composite, Component, Integrated 9-in-2 media card reader/slots, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 Ports, Kensington security port
Hope that someone can help. I am currently testing a DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor and it works flawlessly, but I am interested in paying a little bit more and buy the 24".
    Thank you all in advance,
Power Mac G4 Cube DP 1.7GHz (+ base panaflo fan)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Mike: thanks for posting!
As far as I understand, DELL LCD monitors and Apple PowerMac computers (with their standard 64MB graphic cards) don't have any compatibility issues, though none of the forums/threads/movies you point are 2407WFP related.
Meanwhile, I have emailed DELL and trusting their reply, they assure all of their current line LCD monitors use the latest revision, probably REV A03, as described in this recent Apple discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3541462&#3541462
I will definitely give the DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor a try and will return to this thread with some conclusive feedback.
Again, thank you for taking your time reading/guiding me.

  • PowerMac G5 dual core resolution

I'm having problems reaching the native resolution on a 26" Dell W2607C LCD-TV.
Should the factory fitted nvidia 6600LE (PCI Express) be able to support 1366x768 pixels? I've read that the single-link DVI port supports up to 1920x1200.
    PowerMac G5 Dual Core 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    been a bit foolish here...
installed switchresx, unable to make custom resolution 1366x768 active. Then realised monitor was connected to DVI-2 so moved it over to DVI-1 and restarted G5. Voila I have a host of new resolutions that fit the bill perfectly.
Just not sure whether it would of worked without switchresx!
    Thanks for the advise.

  • Is it manitory to have an airport antenna or can you use it without the antenna (powermac g5 dual processor 10.4.11)

Is it manitory to have an airport antenna or can you use it without the antenna (powermac g5 dual processor 10.4.11)

On the PowerMac G4 I had it had to be connected, but not sure about the model you have.  My guess would be yes due to shielding in the case, but would rather wait and hear from someone else.

  • Is there much difference btwn dual 1.8ghz and dual 2.0ghz

    Hi,
I have seen a dual 1.8ghz (M9454LL/A) second hand with this spec:
    Machine Type: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac 7,3
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2)
    Number of CPUs: 2
    CPU Speed 1.8GHz
    L2 cache (per CPU): 512KB
    Memory: 1.25 GB
    Bus speed: 900MHz
    Graphics Card: GeForce FX 5200
ATA Bus (DVD): Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-117D
    Serial-ATA (hard-drive): Maxtor 80GB
for a good price around £800 which would leave me with money to buy a monitor.
This model already has airport built in and additional ram added.
I am a music producer (running digidesign protools LE) and need a studio computer to see me through the next couple of years. I have been looking at getting a dual 2.0ghz machine but these are invariably more expensive and I would have to pay to add the features this model already has, as well as purchasing a flatscreen.
Basically I want to know how much of a performance difference i will see between a dual 1.8ghz machine and a dual 2.0ghz machine.
    cheers guys

Ok that dual 1.8 is not much difference from a dual 2
Your dual 1.8 has a 900 Mhz front-side bus per processor
The dual 2 has 400 more Mhz total in CPU speed (not much really) and a 1000 Mhz frontside bus per processor.
    So the difference is minimal.
You could upgrade that video card to a AGP ATI X800 and 3D game all the latest ones with no problem. (I would before they are all gone)
If you get yourself another internal hard drive, something large like a 250-300GB SATA and keep your user files in there instead of on the 80GB Maxtor, your performance "feel" would be pretty good as well. (no Western Digital, they upgraded their SATA specs)
And you got a Superdrive, so you can burn dvds.
If time doesn't equal money, and your not constantly pushing your CPU's day and night, this machine is a good buy IMO. You should get a good 3-4 years out of it, especially if you know when to stop upgrading the OS/apps.
Yes I say you got yourself a good buy there.

  • ITunes 8.02 + Leopard 10.5.6 + PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 + AEXP G firmware 6.3

I have just updated my machine to the latest software + firmware for my apple networked home:
    iTunes: 8.02
    OS: Leopard 10.5.6
    Hardware: PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8
    Running latest firmware:
    AEXP: 802.11b/g
    AEXT: 802.11n
My apartment is perfectly working wirelessly (God knows the cancer beaming throughout my apartment). I've got a MacBook Pro and a black MacBook working with Airtunes with no problems at all now for hours, with no problems. The only problem I seem to be running into is when I'm trying to stream audio from my G5 (which has the bulk of my music). I'm still running into audio glitches/hiccups, usually after about 3-5 minutes. I'm assuming it's the wireless card/connection.
I've turned off the IPv6 but I'm still having issues. Does anyone have definitive solutions for similar setups? I appreciate people trying to help (status increasers), but unless you've got a G5 or a G-wireless card with the same problem that you've overcome or you've found a solution somewhere else, please refrain from responding, as I'm in town for another 24 hours to try and come up with a solution before leaving for a month.
Thanks for understanding/help you can provide -
    Chad

  • Powermac G5 dual 2.5 issues!

I purchased a pre-owned Powermac G5 Dual 2.5 ghz. It has 4gb ram and is running Mac OSX 10.5.8. Very shortly after I purchased the computer I had a crash and couldn't get it to start back up. I tried to re-install software and it would go part of the way thru and crash on the install every time. I started the machine in target mode and hooked it to my old trusty G4. I was able to install the software that way with no issues. I then went back to the G5 and tried installing updates, but part of the way thru the updates it would crash saying the update was possibly corrupt, ( these were straight from apple so I doubt that ) thus leaving my g5 unable to restart because of the partial software update. I did the target mode again, this time installing all of the updates using my G4. After all was said and done, I was back to where i had started when i bought it. I now keep to be getting freeze issue with the machine. I can be online using safari and all of a sudden I get the spinning color wheel. When this happens I can not even force quit the app, it will just sit there spinning away. Tonight i tried opening firefox and it started up and ran for a few minutes before freezing also. A few days ago I had tried to burn a dvd using toast, and that app also froze up and would not let me force quit. I have not had any issues like this from my G4, and after trying resetting the SMU, PRAM and many many hard restarts, I am no closer to knowing what the issue could be. Any help or ideas for me to try would be much appreciated.  Thanks, Mike

Remove the metal side panel. When you press the power button, do you see anything happen? Does the power light flash at all? Do you see a red light on the logic board?

  • PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5 - Only Boots with Side Cover and Fan Guard OFF!!

I have the strangest problem with my PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5.  This has been my Pro Tools rig forEVER.
At some point early last year, my Mac wouldn't boot.  It would not see the hard drive, and would show that dreaded alternating icon in the middle of the screen indicating as much.  I tried resetting, tried power off/on, tried resetting PRAM.  Nothing.  I took the cover off, and fan guard off to get at the hard drive.  Verified the data and power cable were seated in hard drive.  Cover still off, I booted up the system.  Voila!!!  Booted right up like nothing was ever wrong.  I put the cover back on, and went about my business, passing it off as a one-off power glitch (the power in my house ***** rocks).  Next time I rebooted the Mac, the exact same thing happened.
I can repeat this at will.  If I leave the cover on, the system will not ever, ever boot.  The minute I take the cover and fan guard off, causing the fans to spin at max speed when turned on, the system boots without issue.  So, I reset PRAM and PMU.  I even tried replacing that green/white cylindrical battery on the motherboard.  Reseated power/data cable on hard drive.  ****, I even tried a different hard drive and memory (explained below).  No change.
Since then, I have relegated this system to the emergency backup system, and procured Dual 2.7 G5 PowerMac.  I transferred the pro tools cards, hard drive (without formatting it) and memory (8 GB) to this new 2.7, and have not had a single, solitary issue with it.  So, I know it's not the hard drive, memory, OS install, or Pro Tools cards.
What in the name of the Apple Gods could be causing this issue?  Any ideas at all?

    Hi Chris,
Good info & work so far, but indeed strange, only thing I can think of is something to do with that little switch for the fan cover... near the bottom as I recall, but it may be some kind of short in it's circuit.

  • No display when connect DVI-D dual link cable

    Hi
I am using MS-6398 motherboard and I have the latest Bios 5.60.  when I connect DVI-D dual link cable from ATI All-In-Wonder 8500DV graphic card to my SONY SDM-M81 Flat Panel.  There is no display at all during POST as well as after boot up. It has display only if I connect with regular analog VGA cable.  I have contacted the ATI tech support and they ask me to contact the manufacturer of my motherboard because it don't have display during POST which is nothing to do with driver.
    thanks,
    Siong

DVI-D port on the Ultradock is single link only.
If you need DVI-D at dual link resolution (i.e. 2560x1600), you need an active displayport to dual link converter. Startech makes them, they should be around 80 USD or something of that region.
