Connect SiriusXM Portable Radio to late 2014 MacBook Pro Retina?
What cable and software would be required to connect a SiriusXM portable radio to my late 2014 Macbook Pro Retina, and allow me to listen via the internal Mac speakers? On my previous Mac I plugged an audio cable into the line-in connector and used LineIn software. On the newer Macs, only the headset jack remains. Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

3 Thunderbolts Displays to a 2014 Macbook Pro Retina?...is there a way
Hi -
I was wondering if there is anyway to connect 3 Thunderbolt Displays to a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina? No.

Is it possible to connect my 2008 black macbook, to my new 2014 macbook pro retina display screen to make a dual monitor. If this is possible what cables would I need to buy?
You can try using Screen Sharing in the Sharing preferences. Or try a third-party utility such as ScreenRecycler.

Kernel Panic - Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina
Hi Apple Community,
I've owned a Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina (2.0Ghz/8GB RAM) for merely a month now and just within the last week alone I have encountered around 5-6 Kernel Panics which is starting to concern me as this is my very first MacBook Pro.
I was hoping that someone here could help me with this issue.
Below is a copy of the Kernel Panic log:

2014 Macbook Pro Retina crashes when extending display to Apple TV 3rd Gen
2014 Macbook Pro Retina running Mavericks 10.9.5 crashes and restarts every time I Extend Desktop in Airplay to new Apple TV 3rd Gen running latest update.
What can I do to avoid this?
Thanks
JonHello Freytag,
I would be concerned too if my MacBook Pro was getting recurring kernel panics when using an external display.
First, I recommend troubleshooting the connection with the external display. This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to the internal display. I recommend reviewing the section titled "No video or no signal, image distortion, 'snow,' or flickering" in the article below. I recommend reviewing the full article, but the following steps specifically stands out to me for the situation you are experiencing:
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
If you continue expereince kernel panics, I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" in the article below to help isolate and troubleshoot this issue:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

whats the maximum resolution supported @ 60 Hz on an external display for mid 2014 macbook pro retina 13 inch ?
I don't know where you found 1920x1080, but that isn't the max. The INTERNAL display can even support more than that.
The maximum resolution is really hardware based, and since Thunderbolt 2 has a Mini displayport connector (Mini Displayport 1.2), the max resolution for Mini Displayport is 4k (3840x2160).
PLEASE NOTE: Not all adapters can support that resolution, most monitors that can run 4k @60Hz have Displayport 1.2 (The most recent revision), Mini Displayport 1.2, and HDMI 2.0. DVI dual link can run 4k, but only 24-30Hz, depending on the monitor.
Hope this helps!! -
Would connecting the HDMI port of my 15 Macbook Pro Retina to the DVI input port on my Dell UltraSharp 2434 LED HD Monitor work?

If you have questions about connecting an external display to your MacBook Pro, you may find the following article helpful:

Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on the 2014 MacBook Pro Retina?
I have a 2014 MacBook Pro Retina that I purchased a few months ago. Is there a way to install OS X Snow Leopard on it? I do not have a DVD drive and do not own OS X Snow Leopard discs. I do have a retail copy .dmg file of it though. Can I copy it over to a USB flash drive and install it on a partition of my hard drive? How do I do that, if it's possible? Can you list the steps? I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

Presumably, you want Snow Leopard in order to be able to run PowerPC applications. If so, more information can be found here:

Kernel panics on base model of late 2014 macbook pro
Hello!
My girlfriend's macbook pro retina 15'' late 2014 base version 10.9.5 gets a kernel panics. She thinks it happens when she surfs the web with Google Chrome but also has other programs open. It has happend from the day first at random times and about 5 times since. Nothing external is attached to the computer and we have not modified the hardware.
I have the error logs for last two. Maybe you can help me find the problem or tell if I should take it in under the warranty.

Hi,
My Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retain 13" is connected to the Samsung 24" Samsung via Thunderbolt/DVI connector.
Upon wake up from sleep mode, the Samsung monitor displays a static screen.
Any idea what the cause maybe and how to fix it? - Right now I have to unplug and plug back the thunderbolt to fix the issue which I find annoying to do. Any better solution out there?
Thanks alot!
MznrcIn a word, yes.
The video out capabilities for the 13" and 15" retina MBPs are the same.

2014 MacBook Pro Retina - VERY SLOW USB 3.0 = cloning is now not possible
For all my previous MacBook (Air and Pro) with Maverick, I always backed it up using Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC). For those who doesn't know, CCC can create a bootable image of your Mac. So you can take the external drive, plug it is into any Mac, boot up and VOILA! You got your machine right there. Much better than Time Machine.
Anyways, I tried to do a CCC image on my MacBook Pro Retina 2014 with Yosemite and this is what I found out:
1). USB 3.0
Very, very slow. I cannot get more than 40 MB Read / Write. Tested with major flash drive proven to have high speed:
256 GB PNY USB 3.0 Turbo Flash Drive (4.5 stars - 1200 reviews in Amazon).
64 GB SanDisk UltraFit USB 3.0 (4 stars - 200 reviews)
From the Amazon URL above, you'll see that other reviewers (see the Amazon URL) got 180 MBps Read and 80 Mbps Write, but I don't know if they are running Yosemite and/or the new MBPr.
From the System Report, Yosemite show that these drives IS capable of USB 3.0 speed:
USB 3.0 FD:
Speed: Up to 5 Gb/sec
Manufacturer: PNY Technologies
Location ID: 0x15200000 / 12
Current Available (mA): 900
Current Required (mA): 504
Capacity: 256 GB (255,999,344,640 bytes)
Removable Media: Yes
Internal Memory Card Reader:
Product ID: 0x8406
Vendor ID: 0x05ac (Apple Inc.)
Version: 8.20 Serial Number: 000000000820
Speed: Up to 5 Gb/sec
Manufacturer: Apple
And this brings me to the next problem...
2). Cloning
I can clone my new MBP with Yosemite as usual, but then booting up from the flash drive is SUPER SLOW, like this:
Apple icon shown with progress bar --> 10 minutes
Login screen shown - click on the Password box --> beachball for 5 minutes
Got to desktop --> beachball for 5 minutes
... you got the idea
With Maverick, all the cloned image boot up fast and is usable, as if I the image is installed in the internal hard drive. I tried both SuperDuper and Carbon Copy Cloner - same exact results.
So my questions:
1). Is the slow USB 3.0 speed a common problem or my MBP just have bad ports (both of them?)?
2). Any idea about the cloning issue? I am leaning towards Yosemite OS as the main culprint, since Maverick works OK, but want to get the expert opinion.FYI, this is the speed I get for one of the USB drive (see below). This is far below the speed I get on Windows machine or, as other posted in Amazon review, in older MacBook.
Keep in mind that these tests are done using two separate USB 3.0 flash drives, both reported to have speed of 5Gb/Sec in OSX System Report (See Apple FAQ here - How can I determine if my device is connected as a USB 3 device?) and are fast in Windows machine.
Anyone see the same problem with USB 3.0 on latest MacBook Pro? -
How to install system on late 2013 macbook pro retina ?
Hmmm .... I need help.
I deployed a 10.9.1 from a new MBA image to the new 15" MBPr .... not a good idea. It won't boot because of the special build that the late 2013 requires.
So the original recovery HD is gone, so can't go that route. Now I need help badly. How to get the darn thing to bootup .... or how to start over ?
BR MartinWelcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Late 2013 MacBook Pro comes with Internet Recovery, which can be used without needing a Recovery partition. To start up in Internet Recovery, hold Command, Option (Alt) and R keys while your Mac is starting, and reinstall OS X. You will get OS X 10.9.1, and the Mavericks installer will create the OS X Recovery partition.
Your MacBook Pro requires a special OS X 10.9.1 build that is not available for any other Mac, and you cannot install the "normal" OS X 10.9.1 version on your MacBook Pro. Apple will fix this in a future update, when your MacBook Pro and all other Macs use the same OS X build. -
In order to simplify moving all my files from the previous mid-2012 macbook pro 15' when moving to my new late-2013 macbook pro, i superdup-ed the full hard-disk to an external ssd. Unfortunatelly the new mac resuses to boot from this external disk (i get the grey disk with a line over it). The external disk works just fine so if I boot the new mac from its internal SSD I can read/write the external disk without problems.
Old OS X is 10.9 as is the OS on the new mac.
What I need to do is to boot the new mac from the external ssd, use the same superduper to copy the external content onto the internal ssd.
How can I solve this issue?Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you made a backup of your files with SuperDuper, use Migration Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities) to transfer your files from the external drive > http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html It will create a new user account with the transferred files, so you may want to merge both user accounts > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-5472
The Late 2013 MacBook Pro uses a special OS X Mavericks version which makes OS X compatible with it, and older OS X versions do not work with it. That's the reason why you cannot start up from the external drive created from the Mid 2012 MacBook Pro -
HT5634 Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina only support Windows 7 (Trying to install 8.1)
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) trying to install Windows 8.1 (64-bit) via Boot Camp on USB with an ISO. Upon downloading Windows support software, I'm greeted with a pop-up that says: "This Mac only supports Windows 7, do you want to continue?" However, upon further investigation, according to Apple's website, it says my model is officially supported for Windows 8.1 What's going on here?
Boot Camp: Version 5.1.2 (481)
OSX Version: 10.9.2
Thanks!
-SterlingI am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while. The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it. I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that. I believe it is around $75 but not sure. Hope this helps

Microsoft Remote Desktop fails connecting to a 4k Laptop from a MacBook Pro Retina Display
Hi there
I'm struggling because I'm trying to use my MacBook Pro Retina display to connect to a Lenovo Laptop that has a higher resolution.
The RDC simple does not work and when it does, the scale is too big to do something and gets disconnected in minutes...
Any hint?
Thanks.Hi,
It seems that MBP retina has high PPI resolution so that when accessing with normal MRD it will display blur or stretch the screen. Might due to that reason it can disconnect the screen also. For this you can try to use URI scheme where you can manually add
the width and height for the screen and check result.
You can check beneath article.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn690096.aspx
Hope it helps!
Thanks.
