Connect Sony TV via HDMI / Thunderbolt to my Mac Air no sound :(

Hi all,
I am new to this "mac world"
....and I'm trying to see videos on my Sony TV from my Mac Air, for that purpose I've bought a Thunderbolt / HDMI Encore electronics adapter. (There's a picture below....)
Everything goes well, apart from the issue that the sound is not coming from the TV but from the Mac Air. Is there any way to configure the port properly ?
I've read on forums that I'm supposed to change the output from System Preferences / Sound, but I've the option of "internal speakers - built- in" only.
Is the a problem with the Thunderbolt adapter?
Is there an issue with the software and I need to update? (I'm using OSX 10.7.4)...
Please help !!!
thanks,
Wiiido

If you have a newer MBP, you need what is illustrated in the following two images.:
If you have an older MBP with a DVI port you will need some thing like this:
Various lengths are available.  These screenshots were taken from the OWC website.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Having trouble connecting macbook pro via HDMI to television?

When I connect my macbook pro to television via HDMI thunderbolt cord it flashes blue, then the mac does not recognize any other displays. I have tried all HDMI ports and am getting the same results. Please help, trying to watch netflix on larger screen.

I don't know that it wouldn't be best to simply get a 'smart' device (my Blu-ray player is the 'smart' device in my AV line-up) such as an Apple TV, etc., to actually view NetFlix movies. That's what I do - my BR player on Ethernet - and the results are terrific. Although I've used a Thunderbolt>HDMI adapter in the past (I don't have a machine with native HDMI ports) I find that the quality and speed is just better with a smart device.
    Just a thought...

Change your settings in Sharing preferences, for one, and remove the server out of the Finder's sidebar. Obviously, this is the result of transfering all your other computer's preferences to your new computer.

  • I bought an HDTV cable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony TV via HDMI so I could watch videos from my computer on my TV.  My TV then shows my basic computer background but the videos won't play.  What am I doing wrong?

I bought an HDTV cable to connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony TV via HDML.  The TV recognizes my computer; I see my basic computer screen on the TV. I tried to watch videos on my TV but got nothing. (tried via my facebook vidoes and Youtube.  What am I doing wrong?

I've got a similar (but different!) problem: I have a MacBookPro3,1 running Mac OS X 10.6.8. I want to connect to my HD TV using a HDMI to DVI cable but the MBP cannot detect the TV display. What's the solution? Is this a bug in Mac OS X 10.6.8 ? Any ideas what I can do to make things work with the HDMI to DVI cable. (N.B.: I have separate audio cable running from the MBP to amplified speakers for the sound side of things. It’s the video that’s the problem!)

  • No picture on TV/DVD combo when connected to laptop via HDMI

I have. 2008 19LV50KW TV/DVD combo that I'm trying to use as a second monitor for my new laptop. I have it connected via HDMI port, and the laptop recognizes the Toshiba, I have windows 7 and have dual monitors enabled, yet there is only Black on the Toshiba TV (I have it on the HDMI input selection). What could be the issue ?

I've seen a number of similar posts around the internet.  I have this same Toshiba TV, and my new fire TV stick from amazon will not display via the HDMI (the only option).  So then I tried my laptop, and discovered that it too would NOT display.
Based on that troubleshooting, I've concluded that it much be an issue with the TV.  Can this be remedied in any way?  Both my fire TV stick and my laptop work on all of my other TVs.  There seems to clearly be an issue with the HDMI input with this Toshiba model, and maybe more.
    Please advise.

    Hello LittleFeatFan
It sounds like to me that your MAC Book Pro is cycling through trying to find a compatible video mode with the monitor. Please be advised that HP monitors are not designed with MAC computers in mind they are designed for computers running Microsoft Windows operating systems. The newer MAC computers run in what is called 'VESA' modes and will work on most HP Monitors. Try the following steps
    1. Turn off the MAC Book Pro.
    2. Connect the HP Monitor while the MAC Boot Pro is off.
    3. Turn on the MAC Book Pro.
    4. Set the monitor to run at 60 Hz.
I am also including a link to the driver page for your HP Monitor below. You will note there are no MAC O/S drivers available for this device.

  • No sound connecting Qosmio G30 via HDMI to audio/video receiver

When I connect my Qosmio G30-177 via HDMI cable to my audio/video receiver using Windows Vista Ultimate I get no sound but excellent video.
When I connect the DVD recorder to the receiver (also via HDMI-cable) the sound is o.k.
Do I have to use the s/pdif interface instead of HDMI to transmit the sound to the receiver or is it also possible via HDMI?

    Hi
Im not a audio expert but in my knowledge the HDMI transmit the audio and video signals.
The HDMI 1.0 and 1.1 support Dolby DigitalDTS audio format
The HDMI 1.2 supports Dolby DigitalDTS and DVD-Audio format
The HDMI 1.3 supports Dolby DigitalDTS, DVD-Audio and SACD audio formats.
All HDMI standards support a Typ A (19pol) jacks

  • Connecting Sony MiniDV via firewire to macbook with i-movie 08

I have 2 Sony MiniDv recorders, HC19E, 109E & neither will connect using a USB to USB or firewire to firewire. The computer does not even recognize them. Every time i press import from camcorder it brings up me in i-sight (live).
    THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!
Any help would be much appreciated!

for usage of iMHD, you need a firewire connection (Sony lingo: iLink)
    set camera to Play
in iM, you should now be allowed to select the iSight or camcorder as input device..

  • MacBook Pro - connect to TV via HDMI Mini Display adaptor

Can't connect macbook pro to my TV and view/listen to what's on my mac on the tv. I am using an HDMI cable from the tv to a mini display port HDMI adaptor. Hello pdr4d,
Based on your post it seems you are unable to get video on an external display. The following article may help you find a solution:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays - Apple Support
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.

  • MacBook Air no longer connecting to monitor via HDMI after recent update.

    Hi all,
My MacBook air typically has no issues connecting to my external ASUS monitor via Thunderbol-HDMI port. However, after the recent Mavericks OSX update that was pushed a couple days ago, my monitor says that there is no signal. My MacBook air screen flickers slightly once connected (typical behavior, as it begins to mirror the screen on a scaled resolution shortly there after) but then nothing happens.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try System Preferences->Energy Saver:Automatic graphics switching (Deselect the checkbox).
If that doesn't work you might try changing the resolution and refresh rate for the monitor in System Preferences->Displays, or downloading an app called SwitchResX (shareware) and lowered the resolution just slightly .
One other solution if possible - restore to time before update from backup.

  • Satellite A100-784 - Connect to TV via HDMI cable

    Hi Friends,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A100-784 PSAANE laptop. Its a discontinued product now :-( I am just wondering If I can connect that laptop with Sony Bravia LED TV through HDMI cable.
I am not able to find If the laptop is compatible for it.
Please help me a way to find a solution to connect it to the LED TV and how to do it? Please also help with the cables required for the same.
Sorry guys I am quite naive to the HDMI business.
    Thanks for all the help,
    regards,
    Meghal

    > I am just wondering If I can connect that laptop with Sony Bravia LED TV through HDMI cable.
You cannot do that because the notebook does not support HDMI.
As far as I know your LCD TV should support the VGA or s-video interface.
So you can purchase a VGA cable or s-video cable to get the notebook connected.
You should read the user manual or your TV and notebook to get more details about connection possibilities.

  • Playing iTunes content through my Sony HDTV via HDMI

Is it possible to play movies and tv shows purchased from iTunes via miniDVI-DVI-HDMI on my Sony Bravia KDL40W4000?
Does the content have to be free of HDCP to be playable?
    Thank you in advance

Yes, the content would have to be free of HDCP to play. However, if you were able to purchase the content from the Music Store using your MacBook, then I believe by definition it is free of HDCP.
There is a section of the Music Store that is sequestered from all but the AppleTV where there is content having HDCP encryption. But again, I don't think you could have this type of content on your MB because you would be prevented from purchasing it in the first place without ATV.
I believe what I am saying is accurate. Hopefully you will get other opinons corroborating what I have said.
