Connect To a WiFi in my Car

Got my girlfriend the 8GB Touch. To use google maps i'm assuming it has to be connected to the internet (duh). If i get a sprint pcs account can the touch connect to it in her car while she is driving. Does my question make any sense? Basically i want to know if it can do what a computer can do using that same Sprint account

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
The Maps application on the +iPod touch+ will cache maps and directions so you can calculate a route when at home on the WiFi network, step through each step, and those steps will then be cached and available for use in the car.

  • TS1398 Update iPhone 4s to 6.1.3 (10B329) now I can't connect to any wifi networks at home or at work and all car Bluetooth systems will not connect either. Help! Extremely annoyed at apple for putting out software that causes such mayhem.

My iPhone 4s has been update as I said in subject bar.. Now can't connect to any of my cars Bluetooth systems. Also even more frustratingly can't connect to any wifi networks at home or work!!
How can apple put out such an update that causes so much grief and inconvenience to hundreds of people. Not to mention risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working...outraged!!!!!!

First, grow up.  Just because YOUR phone isn't working, doesn't mean Apple put out bad software.  I've not had any difficulty, nor has anyone else I know.  And just how is Apple risking lives with Bluetooth kits not working?  It's YOUR decision to talk on the phone or text and drive.  Not Apple's.
We're users here, volunteering our time to help others.  Posts like yours, which are whiny and ranting, simply means we're likely to ignore you and not provide you with any help.  Not to mention, it makes you look absolutely foolish.
Further making you look foolish is the fact that you haven't even asked a technical support question, nor have you provided anyone here with any troubleshooting steps you might have taken, including those recommended in the user guide.
    Good luck getting help.

  • I have an ipad 2 and when connected to my wifi at home it will not download and play you tube videos quickly.  Do I need to upgrade my connenction speed?  What is the optimal speed?

I have an ipad2.  When connected to my wifi at home it will not download you tube videos for easy viewing.  Do I need to upgrade my connection speed?  Would 3 Mbps be enought or do I need to go to 6 Mbps.  I mainly use my ipad to view emails, browse the internet and watch you tube videos.
    thanks - Michelle

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
There are a number of factors in the 'speed' equation. Any or all of them can affect the 'observed' speed of your connection.
    1. Are you in a neighborhood full of WiFi routers (and thus, lots of WiFi interference)? I can 'see' at least 22 other WiFi routers from my living room!
    2. What is the maximum connect speed and band and bandwidth available from your wireless router. Is it 802.11n or the older 802.11a/b/g? 300Mbits or 150Mbits? 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz or both? Does your router measure (QoS) Quality of Service and can it change 'channels' automatically?
    3. What is the observed strength of your wireless connection? Are you getting at least 80% signal when connected? Are there other people in your family also using significant bandwidth at the same time (Netflix, streaming video, streaming audio, game systems)
    4. What is the "advertised" speed of your current ISP connection?
    5. What is the measured throughput of your current setup.  Go to speedtest.net or use the free speedtest.net app available in the App Store.  Try several times, from different locations in your home, and at different times of day and night.
I have AT&T DSL advertised at 3Mbit/sec down and 512Kbit/sec up. My Speedtest.net measured throughput is about 2.4 Mbit/sec downstream and upstream is about 0.4Mbit/sec. I'm using a Motorola Netopia 2210-2 DSL modem. I have no problem viewing YouTube videos and other mobile video content on the iPad 2.  I'm connected wirelessly to a D-Link DIR-655 Gigabit router rated at 150Mbps at 2.4Ghz (only) with 802.11 b/g/n enabled. The interior of my home is within a range of 30-50 feet from the router and no more than 1 wall.  It is a single level concrete slab foundation of about 1500 sq. ft. with cathedral ceilings. I have successfully streamed ESPN3.com on my MacBook at the same time my son was streaming another ESPN3.com game on his MacBook Pro. I've streamed YouTube videos while my son was watching a NetFlix movie on his Wii game system. He's also successfully used Skype for extended 'teleconferences.' None of my devices are connected to HDMI on a large screen TV. 95% of the time, I can do iChat video without any signal breakup to my son (who is at a college with a Gigabit (1000Mbit) wired connection!). 5% of the time the connection drops. We haven't tried FaceTime (designed for mobile connections to be much less bandwidth-intensive, from what I understand) simply because we both have iChat on our computers.
So for me, a 3Mbit DSL connection is absolutely adequate, given all the other parameters mentioned. As the car manufacturers say, "Your mileage may vary."

  • I cannot connect to the WiFi at my library using iPad 2 64 GB 3G.

I have an iPad 2 64GB with 3G (Verizon). This is my only computer. I only have a regular cell phone, not an iPhone or smart phone. I don't have an iPod either. The only way I access the Internet is through 3G. Not being computer savvy, I thought this would be the easiest method.  Are there many others out there like me? Things seemed to be more geared toward WiFi. I guess the 3G was meant only for people on the go who could not access WiFi, such as in a moving car? Just using 3G seems to have many limitations I did not realize. For example, the only reason I had to go to the library to try to connect to their WiFi was because I could not install an update to Skype. When I tried to install the update using 3G, I got a message saying it was over 20 MB and had to be done via WiFi, which I do not have. I connected to the WiFi at my local library, but I kept getting message that I could not connect to Internet. It's weird, because it did show I was connected to the library WiFi in General settings. It is a bit frustrating to have to go to  a hotspot to download anything that is 20MB or larger. I would get WiFi, but I don't want to buy a laptop or desktop. I was told that a wireless router has to be first set up with a laptop or desktop and not an iPad. Another limitation is I can't use Facetime with 3G. I can't print using airprint on 3G.  I also read that using 3G uses up the battery faster. Downloading a rented film from iTunes would eat up too much of my data plan using 3G. (And it is probably over 20 MB again.) I still haven't been able update to iOS 5.0 because I don't have another computer to connect to iTunes. WiFi seems to be cheaper if you you are a heavy user. I only get 20 MB a month for $20. Verizon charges 20 bucks for home Internet connection, but it is unlimited data usage. Sometimes I exhaust my data so quickly, I have to add more data before the month has ended. That gets expensive. So, my main question was about the public WiFi problem, but I also wanted to detail some of the limitations of using an iPad 2 as your sole computer using 3G. I was able to connect to the Apple store WiFi when I tested it out a while back, so I know it can be done using my iPad. Any hints on how to workaround the limitations of using 3G would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response. No, I did not get any error messages or any terms-of-usage screen. The employee I told my problem to was not computer savvy either. She just suggested I move to different spots w/in the library to see if that would make a difference. It didn't. When I connected to the library WiFi it did change the Verizon 3G that is usually in the upper left corner to iPad with two to three emanating arcs. I may have to go to the library in the next town. I was able to connect to theirs in the past when I had to download something greater than 20 MB. Unless I really want it, I will probably not even try to download something more than 20 MB due to the hassle. Yeah, I may have been better off getting a normal desktop or laptop and getting WiFi at home. To do that now would mean having my iPad 2 and a desktop computer, which I feel is extravagant. (I know there are a lot of big spenders out there who got the iPad as additional gadget for fun. This is a rich country.) A Verizon rep told me I couldn't set up a WiFi router at home just using an iPad. So it seems like a person who just uses 3G is limited to surfing the net (not even much YouTube because it eats a lot of data) and using email. I read about an app that helps print wirelessly using 3G, but a reviewer said you had to be an engineer to get it done right. BTW, I like the Steelers. I'm old enough to remember Franco Harris and that blond guy whose name escapes me back in the '70s. Since I live in North Jersey I feel I have to support the Giants. But I know football about as well as computers.

  • TS1398 My iPhone 5 will not connect to my wifi.  I called Verizon and it is not thir issue because my iPad can connect.  Sometimes I can get my phone to connect to my wifi if I choose "other" as the network, go to "WPA" &type password

My iPhone5 will not connect to my home wifi.  I called my Internet provider and they said it is not their problem b/c my iPad and computer will connect.   Sometimes I can get it to connect for a few minutes by choosing "other" network and then choosing "WPA" security and typing in my pass code. Other tomes it will spontaneously connect to my wifi.  Very frustrating!  Any ideas?

    Hey ebe301,
Sorry to hear about your troubles with your PC. If you are not seeing your iPhone on your computer, then take a look at the link below to walk you through getting that working again. It will have you verify that drivers are installed and working as well as any third party software that may be causing conflicts.

  • Help! Atnt disabled my ability to connect to a wifi when I got cancelled

    Hey All,
Maybe someone can help me because this seems like complete bs and unlikely BUT. Because I'm having financial problems I wasn't able to pay my bill until next week. So Atnt turned off my service, which I can understand.
However now NONE of my applications will use the wifi. I'm trying to use skype until the service is back on and it won't connect. I turn on the wifi, connect to my wireless router ( like I always do ) and the iPhone shows it's connected to the wifi but none of the phones applications will use it.
I've tried multiple wifi's from friends to hot spots and non work. I turn the airplane mode on and turn the wifi on so its not connect to Atnt and it still won't work.
Anyone help me with this? It started the day Atnt turned my service off. Atnt shouldn't have that type of control over this device so I'm thinking maybe its a bug they don't care about and I have to reset something. Anyone help!

    Hey BHorton15,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like your iPhone doesn't appear under Devices in iTunes after you connect it to your Windows PC. If that sounds correct, check out this article to resolve the issue:

  • My iPod Touch will no longer connect to the wifi?

I have a 4g iPod Touch with IOS6.0.1. My  iPod was connected to my wifi and working fine two days ago. I went to get on about 7PM yesterday, but there was no connection. I have tried shutting the wifi on and off, airplane mode on and off, reseting the network connections, have made sure I put the password in correctly each time, powered off the iPod, restarted it, and even rebooted it back to factory settings. Nothing has worked. I did get connection finally about an hour ago, but it lasted three minutes and then disconnected again. I know it's not the router because all my other devices that use wifi are working just fine. Does anybody have any other clue as to what to do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • I can't send emails from iPhone until I connect to my wifi! I am with bigpond and have a bigpond email address. Can anyone help me?

I can't send emails from iPhone until I connect to my wifi at home. I am with bigpond and have a bigpond email address. Can anyone help me?

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

You may have an older router that needs the firmware updated.  Something else to try is unplug the router, wait 10 seconds and power it up again.
