You need to be more specific about what you're trying to do and how you have your network set up.

im wanting to connect my cctv to my homehub 3 so i can watch it on my iphone while im away i have gone through all the port forwarding stuff but i can see it when im on my home network but not when im out and about any ideas how i do this
any help will be greatly appreciated

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Ditto to Dave above..
I've tried everything yesterday and this morning with no success.
I have my DynDns account updating alright - I downloaded a port checker from DynDns and it says the port is open. So not being a tech'y and only reading what others say here - it's not forwarding to my CCTV.
Disabling / Enabling Firewall, Turning on/off UpNp, settting my DVR as DMZ. Adding the devide as its IP address rather than assigned name etc - Turning on/off the router - No success - just about to throw the router in the bin.
I e-mailed BT customer support and they called me yesterday to say that they can only assist with connection problems - no help with any hardware replated issues. So I'm stuck and waiting on anyone here who can offer any solution.
I'll give it a few weeks then if there's no solution then I go buy a decent router. Conclusion to me so far is that the Home Hub 3 is a piece of trash. I was expecting much more but all it is capable of is the most basic of operations.
And so BT give us super fast Infinity (which I have now at a cost) - but what use is it if I can't get to my network from outside!! At least I update my facebook page in super fast time.... lol

  • Adding an extreme base station to an existing wifi 'n' network

Got a bit of a strange one here wondering if anyone had a good answer to.
Basically I am in the process of connecting up a CCTV wireless external cam to my network. I dont particularly want to use wired connection purely because of where my router is situated. It would mean a very long Cat5 cable running up and down several walls and is not ideal.
However, after testing the cam i don't really want to rely on the wifi it has built in. When it is in position I need it to work flawlessly - it would also be awkward to reconnect it up to the router via cable (router downstairs and cable would pop out in corner of room upstairs).
I also would ideally like my external hdd (with time machine backup running) on the network rather than plugged into the imac via usb- I'm thinking more on security - id rather have the backup stashed away upstairs away from the computer.
So I'm thinking about getting an Airport Extreme Base Station and wire the CCTV and external hdd up to it so they are accessible on the network - but still use my existing router as the dhcp sever and main wifi access point.
But I'm a little unsure if this is possible to do? Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to consider a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish your goal. One adapter plugs into an AC socket near your main router and the other would plug into an AC socket near the camera. Short ethernet cables would connect the router to one adapter and the camera to the other. The AC wiring in your home transmits the ethernet signal.
I also would ideally like my external hdd (with time machine backup running) on the network rather than plugged into the imac via usb- I'm thinking more on security - id rather have the backup stashed away upstairs away from the computer.

You could connect connect the CCTV to the AirPort Extreme, but the AirPort Extreme would need to connect to your main router using an ethernet cable (or powerline adapters). You would not be able to do this using wireless only.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express would be able to connect to your wireless network (assuming there were a strong signal where it is located) and provide an ethernet signal. The problem here is that you would still be relying on essentially a wireless connection between your main router and the AirPort Express. That's really about the same as relying on only a wireless connection between your main router and the camera, which you mentioned that you did not want to do.
The big problem with connecting an external drive to the AirPort Extreme for use with Time Machine backups is that due to corruption issues, Apple does not support this type of configuration. So this would definitely not be advised.

  • I got a CCTV camera. On the side is says 'NATIONAL CCTV LENS 8mm F1.2. Can I connect that to my macbook pro? How?

I got a CCTV camera. On the side is says 'NATIONAL CCTV LENS 8mm F1.2' can I connect that to my macBook pro? How? I'm doing a project and I need to connect the camera to my Macbook pro. I also need to be able to see what the camera sees at the same time. How do I dont this? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It depends on what connections the camera has. If it has USB, just plug it in. If it is networked, put the camera on the network and then access it from your Mac using whatever software or browser access is directed by the camera instructions. If it has a purely video or analog connection (coaxial, RCA, etc), you will need some kind of video interface in addition to the Mac.

  • CCTV connection

Ive just joined BT infinity from O2.  Ive got a Home Hub 5 and Im struggling to understand how I get my DVR internet connected.  Ive searched for other posts but none seem to cover Home Hub 5.  A few posts suggest I need a business account with a static address but I could get round that with O2 by using a free dyn account.  Can anybody help?

You do not need a static IP address, you can use DynDNS.
The settings on the HH5 are virtually the same as the other home hubs. Here are some examples to get you started.

  • Old digital video camera connection to iMac????

I have an old Panasonic digital color CCTV camera (model WV-CL320) which I have used for years with a microscope attachment in my classroom connected to a television. I would like to be able to connect to the computer to capture images, either single frame or short video clips, on my iMac G-4. Does anyone have knowledge or experience about connections of this type? I tried connecting via the video port by way of the Apple composite or S-video adapter to no avail. Nothing shows up and system profiler doesn't indicate anything. iMovie does not sense a camera. So what must I do or is this asking the impossible? Does this kind of capture require additional software, a composite video to fire wire or something altogether not apparent to my unsavvy mind? The camera has no storage capacity; it simply delivers an output of 1.0 Vp-p NTSC composite video signal. The output on the camera is a BNC connector which further connects to an RCA cable to the television. I have connected the camera to my LCD projector through a composite video- phone jack port on the back of the HP xb21. So if anyone can help it would be appreciated. Thanks

by way of the Apple composite or S-video adapter to no avail.
These ports are OUT from the Mac, not IN to the Mac.

The camera is really no different than a VHS VCR (in this context).

  • Using a Laptop to connect to FTP via an iPhone hotspot

    Hi guys,
When I try to connect to ftp in either Dreamweaver or FileZilla using my iphone hotspot I cannot connect.
I wonder if anyone knows (a) if this is possible and (b) how to go about it?
    Many thanks
    Jamie

    Thank you for your reply,
I have attached a drawing of what I need to achieve. I have omitted the old ADSL links that are now obsolete. My concern is: Is it possible, and how can I configure, a VPN or any other method of encryption over an existing VLAN or VPN whilst keeping the existing networking configurations at each site. This is required to ensure that the IT department cannot access or view sensitive security data (e.g CCTV and access profiles) that is moving between the remote sites and Central Security. The other challenge is that the Cisco router will be installed in the remote sites one at a time over 3 months. During this time sites must be able to operate with or without the upgraded security depending upon what has been installed.

  • Connecting 2 RV042 to different subnet and DSL connections

Small office, 2 RV042, 2 DSL connections. 1 is used striclty for the business side, and the other is for our CCTV network. They also have seperate DSL connections as we have 2 external IP address for clients to connect remotely. We don't want to take away our exisring setup, but would like to bridge both networks so a few of our internal clients can connect to our CCTV network and use some of the devices. Right now they come in on VPN but its not as fast.
Is this doable without adding additional hardware? Both networks need DHCP enable as well.
    Breakdown:
    DSL 1
    |
    RV042
    |
    192.168.20.X
    |
    | Would like to somehow join the 2 networks together.
    |
    DSL 2
    |
    RV042
    |
    192.168.40.X

Hi Matt, you may utilize 1 RV042 router and host the dual wan for each connection then bind the appropriate services to the WAN. You then may enable the multiple subnet feature on the router to allow both separate LAN IP network communication through the LAN.
Next you can make very specific firewall rules for the specific services.
The caveat of this router firewall is that it has a default state table. To bypass the default state table you will need to make such a deny all rule for every field.
Then make a service rule to permit source ip to destination IP using which WAN for what service. (Confusing isn't it?)
Reference this topic to get an idea what I'm talking about.

  • CCTV and time capsule

Hi all.. need some help on a cctv cam setup please!
    I recently bought this camera: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wireless-IP-Network-Camera-Pan-Tilt-Security-WIFI-Webc am-CCTV-11-IR-Night-Vision-/280932004420?pt=UK_CCTV&var=&hash=item4168da3244
I have a laptop which connects wirelessy to my apple time capsule which is also my wireless router. This time capsule has a 2TB hard drive built in so effectively it acts as a wireless router, and wireless network hard drive.
I've set the camera up and can access the controls and see the footage when on my home network by going to 10.0.1.2:XX
In my settings I have set the camera to automatically record video when it detects movement. The save directory is set to Z:\Videos\CCTV (which is a folder on the timecapsule).
My issue is that when my laptop is turned on then the camera records to the Z directly perfectly. But when the laptop is turned off the camera does not record to that location. The camera is still working when the camera is off, and I have checked this by logging onto 10.0.1.2:XX with my iphone.
Does anyone know why the camera is not recording to Z:\Videos\CCTV when the laptop is off? And, how I can resolve this as I dont really want to leave my laptop on all the time.
    Thanks!

    15-TC
    Get rid of the dash.
    Taylor Network
    Get rid of the space.
\\15-TC\not sure what you mean by data?\Videos\CCTV
The first is the computer name.. second is the directory share name.. TC drive is always named data.. or Time Capsule. etc.. but open airport utility, and under disk page what is the data directory name.. usually data.
Videos is a directory under the root directory..
CCTV is directory under videos.. you need the full path.. to find the files ..
So every network drive \\ in windows usage..
    is follow by the rest.
"Where is the mapping to Z defined?"
Somewhere there is a definition of Z:
Look in window under mapped drives.. I have forgotten myself where it is.
Remember this is your computer.. not camera..
Camera has no idea where z is.. how can it, if it is not mapped.. the Z: means absolutely nothing to the TC.. or camera.
In fact is it highly likely you are sharing the network resource through windows.. that is why when you turn the computer off the camera has lost where to store the files.. you have set it up wrong.
Remove the share from Z:.. this is wrong.
Use the full and correct URL to the network drive in the camera.
Read the camera instructions for how to set it up.

  • CCTV Camera input to iMac?

    Hi guys,
We are looking at using 2 wired dome cameras and our iMac as a CCTV system using Security Spy but we're struggling to find a way of getting the video signals into the iMac. With a Mac Pro it would be easy with an internal card but obviously that simply isn't possible with the iMac.
So, does anyone know of a possible USB/Firewire solution? Our cameras have BNC connectors on the end but I'm sure we can find suitable adaptors depending on what products are available.
Your help would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers in advance

You need an interface device that connects to the "composite video source" and then to your Mac's USB port. Then you need software that understands that input and displays it in a window on your screen (or full screen).
I have the device shown here, called +XLR8 XtraView+.
    http://daystar-store.com/videoin.aspx
It comes with software for doing video capture, but I mostly use that software to display the video output from my TiVo (which is just an RCA-type cable) on my screen in a window. At the time, it was the least expensive option I could find, and it works well. It basically makes that window on my screen into a TV. Note: This particular product is only for standard def, not HD.
There are some other low cost options I see now from Elgato and Miglia. If I was getting one now, I'd probably looking into the specs on those products, for example
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ElGato/10020415R/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Miglia/TVM041/
You can see other options from those companies on their respective web sites.
