Connect to internet - error updating to 4.2

Hey there!
For some reason itunes/my iphone 4 won't update my software to 4.2.1 or 4.2 (not sure which is the latest update)
It gives the following message.
Despite the fact i AM connect.
is there any possible way to by pass this? or fix this?

Did you check your security software settings? iTunes has to contact Apple during the process.

  • "Not connected to Internet" error message

    Hi Guys,
Safari keeps throwing me "you are not connected to the internet" error messages. I'm running 10.5.1 and I chose the "upgrade" option.
The errors are displayed randomly on sites and if I get the error upon visiting a site, I usually have to wait about a half hour before i reload the site and it works normally. This is happening to approximately 20% of the sites I visit. I can view the same exact site in Firefox, but I also get the same error in Mail, Aperture (flickr export) and twitterific.
If a site (like Flickr) pulls resources from multiple urls, even though the initial site loads, the resources may not. For instance, loading Flickr, the page may load, but since the images are on a separate server (or multiple separate servers), the images may not load or may load randomly.
I tested failing urls in Network Utility > Traceroute and urls that throw the error message get an "unknown host" message. I assume this bug has to do with Mac OS X as opposed to my ISP. and that web kit is probably the culprit, as I'm having this problem on apps that use web kit to access the internet (firefox does not).
This error is also happening on my powerbook G4 that was upgraded to 10.5 as well.
anyone else having this error? i don't seem to see anything in the forums.

I am having this IDENTICAL problem. My ISP is Cox Communications and at first I thought the problem was DNS related. It certainly appears to be, but I went and dusted off my old Windows laptop and internet access works very well, fast and snappy. Since upgrading to Leopard on my Mac Pro and MacBook Pro (oh yes, I was stupid to upgrade both at the same time) I have been so frustrated with this problem. Safari will tell me I'm "Not connected to Internet" while Firefox will happily load the same page. Mail will tell me it can't connect to the smtp server while tcpdump shows it not even trying. A half hour later it starts to work temporarily. I have tried using different DNS servers but it doesn't make a difference. The problem is definitely Apple Safari/Mail. Boo!
Please someone at Apple fix this problem quickly. This is extremely frustrating.

  • "Not Connected to Internet" Error on 3G/Edge/Wifi

I've dug a dozen or so pages deep into the forum here and couldn't find any help on this.
Currently my phone is unable to make any data transfer. This started happening randomly with no real change to my software or network connection at home. My phone tells me I'm connected to my home wifi network, and that I have full reception. Yet when I go to Safari to load a page (or try to send/receive e-mail, or use any other app that requires a data connection), I get a "not connected to the internet" error.
If I disable wifi on the phone and try to use the 3G connection, the exact same thing happens. I've reset my network connections through the Settings app, I've toggled Airplane mode on and off all day long, I've reset the Sim card, I've restored my firmware, I've done a hard reset. I've done all the usual tips and tricks. All to no avail.
I'm using an iPhone 3GS, on the 3.0.1 firmware. I can still send a receive phone calls, and text messages. But any kind of data transfer is a total no-go.
This is the 2nd time I've had this problem. The first time lasted for many days, and after about the third firmware restore things started to work normally again. Now that I'm running into this problem again, I'm wondering if it's an actual, physical hardware problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'd take it back to Apple. It sounds like it could be hardware, and I believe others have had similar issues. Get them to check it out instead of driving yourself crazy.

  • "ADE could not connect to the obtention server. Make sure you are connected to internet" error message.

I am trying to download a new ebook that I bought on ebook.de (already did it before and never had problem) and this error message appears "ADE could not connect to the obtention server. Make sure you are connected to internet". I am connected to internet and my connection is quite good... I have no idea how to fix this problem. Can someone help me?

    Hello,
Quickly you can do a check.
    Open your browser
    Type URL: https://adeactivate.adobe.com/adept/Status
    Press enter
    You should see something like:
If it says "UP", this indicates ADE will be able to contact activation server.
If not, then, maybe firewall is causing you this issue.
    Thanks

  • Installed Airport - getting "not connected to internet" error

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro and Airport extreme. I installed the Airport using MacBook (Snow Leopard) then hooked up my desktop iMac (OS X (10.4.11) - as per Tech Support recommendations. Everything works but here is a problem I encounter. When I wake the iMac and pull up Safari or Firefox I'm getting an error message of "not connected to internet" and the diagnostic box appears. I can hit "refresh" and the web site comes right up. Anyone have any ideas as to why this occurs?

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions.
    Go to System Preferences
    Click Network
    Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
Select your access point and Remove your access point with the minus button.
Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
    Reboot
Go back to the “By default, join:” page and click the plus this time to add your access point. Enter the correct password, save, reboot.

  • IPad Air can not connect to internet after updating to iOS8.

Safari CAN NOT OPEN ANY PAGES because the iPad is not connected to internet. I updated to iOS8 last night and have been trying to reset my ipad as well. However, the problem is still there. It even says my Apple ID incorrect. GUYS! DO NOT UPDATE YOUR iPAD TO iOS8 UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!!!!!!!! Luckily, I did not do anything with my phone. PHEW

Other threads I've read have had people note that the following solutions have worked for them:
If you have a 5 GHz wi-fi router, turn off 5 GHz support and let it fall back to 2.4 GHz.
Change wi-fi router to auto-select channels, or manually select a different channel than what it's on now.
    Disable iCloud Drive.
I'm not saying that that any of these will work, but it's something to try (one at a time).

  • Airport problem-cannot connect to internet since update

I like many folks here is new to a Mac. I have a iMac intel duel processor. i apparently did this update to 10/4/8 10/2/06. Since then airport does not work and I cannot connect to internet at all. I have talked to Apple customer service but so far no help there. They want me to reinstall disc that came with computer. I also have a new MacBook that has update also. I can set it beside the iMac in my office and it works great. We have a wirelss system in our home and a PC and the MacBook still connect with no problem. Settings on iMac and MacBook look identical to what I can tell. Nothing I try to connect works, rebooting, change some setting. Can anyone offer easy to follow suggestions to a new Mac user. Thanks

Since it's only the iMac that's having the issue connecting using WPA, we don't need to troubleshoot the router or the other computers.
I suggest trying the following on the iMac before attempting to reload the previous version of the OS.
If you use "Preferred Networks," instead of "Automatic" for your "By default, join" setting Location, try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > AirPort tab
    - Delete all preferred networks with encryption
    - Add them again after manually connecting
(Note: It will be faster if you turn on "Automatically add new networks to preferred networks list" under "Options" of the AirPort network connection.)
If this doesn't work, something might have gone wrong with the update to 10.4.8. I would suggest that you follow the Apple Tech's recommendation and reinstall the previous OS using the installation disk that came with your iMac.

  • Cannot Update iPod, no connection to internet error

I am getting an error that says:
"iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the Internet.
Make sure your Internet connection is active and try again."
Now, I know that my interent connection is working, or else this message would not be posted here. IS there some way around this?

    FOR WINDOWS:
Connect ipod if tunes opens close it LEAVE IPOD HOOKED UP ! control alt delete in processes RIGHT CLICK AND END ipodservice.exe, then open start and click run and put this in "c:\PROGRAM FILES\iPOD\BIN\iPODSERVICE.EXE" /service
Leaving the ipod HOOKED UP NOW REBOOT LEAVE IPOD HOOKED UP may take a few minuets be patient...when rebooting is done itunes should open and recognize your ipod ...This worked for my new 80gig ipod just purchased 2 days ago and pluged in ipod it formatted to windows ok but itunes would not update ...This info is from jeremy in ohio tech support for apple he is good (seems to know what he is talking about ), first 2 tech's i talked to were useless . Now ipod is auto updated very happy auto dnloaded music to new ipod (6,787) songs and all is ok ...This is not a fix for scratchy audio this is making ipod able to read your ipod by shutting off ipod service then rebulding it (restarting ) and worked fine for me ...If not sure go ahead and call tech support on this fix for updating ....Thanks all Good luck..

  • Itunes won't connect to internet or update, NO ERROR MESSAGE!

So when I plug in my iPod touch 5th gen and go to store, it doesn't do anything! It just says "Accessing iTunes store..." and that's it. When I try to update or back up my iPod it says the update server is unavailable try again later and the back up gets stuck at Step 2. I tried all the anti virus stuff, firewall stuff, reset my winsock, release/refreshed my internet.

  • Can't connect or incomplete connect to internet after updating to 10.5.5!!!

    Hi
I am having a problem connecting to the internet since I updated (via Software Update) to 10.5.5. There is not a problem with the house internet connection, because 2 other PC's here are connecting fine. I get full wireless strength, my VPN tunnel works, and my skype works. I just can't get on the internet.
I run diagnostics, and it either tells me it's not working, or it tells me it IS working, but I still can't get a web page to load. I have power cycled all the modem/router/MBP a hundred times. I re-setup my connection, and I also tried setting it up with the ethernet cable directly. Nothing works.
I just ran diagnostics AGAIN, and it tells me my internet connection is working correctly...but when I try to open a web page, I get the error that I am not connected to the internet.
It worked flawlessly before the update. So what do I do? Is this an Apple bug that they are going to fix or can fix?

I am writing just a short message in case Apple mistakenly believed that this problem was solved.
It is quite clear that many other people than the ones in this thread are experiencing the problem. From what they describe, possible candidates are:

  • Sony Bridge Can't Connect To Internet After Updating To Mountain Lion

I've tried multiple times now, to get Sony Bridge to check for updates, but every time I try, I get the following error:
Cannot Check For Updates (no internet connection)
I'm on a 2008 iMac, connecting with a Live With Walkman.
My Mac is online and the problem only occurred after updating the OS to Mountain Lion (10.8).
Thus far I've tried going into the user library, and have deleted the two Sony folders present in the Application Support folder, but to no success, I still get the same error.
I'm firing this up regularly to see when ICS is going to drop in Belgium, so I'd be keen to hear of any possibile solutions. Thanks.

    Hello OneManLaptop
ML came out 3 days ago...There is as of right now no tested version of Bridge for MAc available for it.
You will need to wait for the Update of the application but right now we can't provide a ETA for it.
Sorry for the inconvenience that this may cause you.

  • Unable to connect to internet error on torch

when i try to use the internet i get the error "unable to connect to the internet please try later"
    i have BIS
    calls are fine
My home wifi broadband is working on my laptop
neither home wifi or mobile network connect but both are ticked/enabled
it has worked in the past for at least a year with no problems
i tried to cure it by updating the OS to the latest OS7 and initially it worked then stopped
I~ tried to turn on mobile hotspots but i get the error 'cannot start due to a temp network problem"
the only advice i've had from vodafone is to reload the os which is pretty pathetic advice as i said i'd already done it and its hardly something you can do very often.
its end of contract time and i'm so frustrated by this i'm beginning to think the only way i can fix it is to change networks or move away from blackberry but id rather not.

    Hello!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!
If not, then you should perhaps try Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode and if the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
If the behavior continues in Safe Mode, then you may need to do as your carrier advised, with perhaps this methodology:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
Good luck and let us know!

I've had this issue before but I was atleast able to get on iTunes & firefox. After this update my comp can't connect to the Internet period. I called my cable company & everything was working fine on their end. My modem communicates that it's linked my comp by a flashing light. In network prefrences my Ethernet says connected. After I did the update was when my comp was unable to connect to the Internet, firefox, safari, iTunes NOTHING. I don't have any anti virus programs on my comp.
    Help anyone?
