Connect to iTunes, again....

I'm really getting tired of this. I thought with iOS5 the emphasis on the iphone becoming more stand-alone was on, well, actually becoming more stand-alone!
I live in both Thailand and Australia. We came back to Australia recently and changed both of our phones under warranty. No problems there. We both have apple store purchased, unlocked phones. They are iPhone 4's, not 4S. Prior to changing the phones both worked in Thailand on various Thai carriers (true, 123, dtac), and both worked in Australia on vodafone and Helstra.
When they were changed under warranty the replacement phones were only iOS4.x.x. In store, I put my sim in and I get the "connect this phone to iTunes" message. I got him to activate it. My wife needed a new sim which he couldn't help us with, so we put my sim in her phone and activated it as well.
We then went to a vodafone reseller and got a new microsim for her. Put it in her phone and straight away we get the "connect this phone to iTunes" message again. We went back to the Apple store and although he just re-activated it, the point was lost. I don't want to have to do this for every sim we put in the phone. My wife and I both use vodafone, what's the difference between her sim and mine? The phone's firmware is unlocked, so there should be no authentication required...
Moving along to the REAL problem.
I then came home I upped them to 5.0.x. Then I restored the phones using the backup I created the night before.
Now my wife had a need to go back to Thailand on short notice. She has not taken any computer with her, just her iPhone, her Australian and Thailand sims. She landed in Phuket and before her connecting flight to her hometown she put in the Thailand sim. She gets the message she must connect to itunes to go forward. I'm sorry, but this is utter BS. She is now home for a couple of weeks with a phone she cannot use. She is in a town that doesn't have great internet, and she doesn't have ready access to a computer to connect to iTunes to re-activate the phone.
I am guessing that every time I go to a NEW country (or even carrier within the same country), I have to do the following:
I have to buy a new sim for the phone,
I have to take my laptop,
I have to get my laptop connected to the internet (and tethering is now out of the question since the phone is kaput),
hope the internet connection I am using has all required ports open for iTunes validation,
plug my phone into the laptop and allow it to re-activate.
I'll say it again, this is total and utter BS. It's MY phone, I bought it unlocked for a reason, and Apple are locking us out of it. ***?
Now she has to make a special trip to a major town to go to an Apple reseller to get her phone reactivated. Or I suppose, she can ask someone in her town to download the iTunes virus onto one of their windows boxes and reactivate through that internet connection.
Is there NO OTHER WAY???
I'm sorry for venting here, but I have been stung in nearly every country I have been because of Apple. Being locked out of my phone for days at a time. Why isn't the authentication information stored in the iPhone backup? Does this mean it's going to happen when I revisit everywhere I've been? This is beyond frustrating.
I ask again, politely; is there any other way? (please do't say buy a new non-Apple phone <G>)

I have just spent the last hour on the phone to Apple Care. Admittedly, they are working hard to fix the problem, and it turns out the nong who replaced our phones has recorded wrong serial numbers for the phones. As a result, the iphones we have don't match the iphones apple think we have.
Hence when I upgraded them to iOS5, they were upgraded against what IS in their database, 2x iphone 4's locked to the Optus network. So our phones are locked.
The irony of this problem, we are currently using Vodafone sims in both phones! Vodafone is not an Optus reseller.
Now our problem is escallated to the activations team who have to record the correct serial numbers for the phones. This is probably going to involve a trip to an Apple store for them to verify. Once the database correctly reflects the phones we physically have, we can download the unlocked firmware and restore them once again.

  • IPad stolen, probably factory reset.. serial number traceable when connected with iTunes again?

    Hi all,
Our iPad was stolen from our home last week, and it does not show up on 'find my iPad/iPhone'. I think the thief did a factory reset on the iPad..
But when an iPad is reset, it has to be connected to iTunes again, right? So is there a red flag going up at Apple's side?, because the iPad's serial number is still registered to me?
    Kind regards from The Netherlands,
    Wouter

  • Iphone 2G unlocked wants connecting to iTunes again and again and again.....

I have an old iphone 2G which I had officially unlocked by 02.  It works with my orange SIM now but whenever I turn it off/it runs out of batteries/the phone gets a knock it asks to be connected to itunes again.  Never happened with original 02 SIM.  This is very annoying when I don't have a laptop and internet connection.
Anyone have any solution it would be MASSIVELY appreciated.

go back to o2 your carrier so they can help you if they unlocked it.

  • My iphone is disabled and says connect to itunes. I have tried to restore but it ends go back to disbled screen partway through

My son has disabled his iphone 4 and it says it needs to connect to itunes. When I try to connect it, I get a message telling me that it can't connect because the iphone is lost. I tied erasing the phone on cloud but it still needs to conenct to itunes so this does not work. I have tried restoring the phone but partway through, the phone tries to connect to itunes again and I get the message that it is lost and the disabled message comes back up on the screen. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Did you make sure that iTunes can log into Apple Servers during the restore process?

If this all does not work, you'll have to get your phone looked at by visiting an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place.

  • Ipod won't unlock or connect to Itunes?

Okay so when i switched on my laptop about half an hour ago the first thing i did was connect my ipod to itunes, itunes refused to open so i disconnected the ipod, Itunes now runs smoothly-
However, my Ipod classic 6th Gen (which i literally brought on Thursday) is displaying the lock button- it had been locked prior to connecting to itunes but now it seems frozen that way
I tried to connect to itunes again but the system wouldn't recognise the ipod, however when i disconnected a notification showed up telling me that the ipod was potentially corrupted and should restore it
any advice? I'm at my wits end here!

Oh sorry... I must have had that other doc open for another reply.  This is the actual iPod Reset document

You may want to try doing a Restore (if you have not already), to see if that makes any difference for your issue with having to do a Reset. This is the document for doing a Restore

  • IPhone resets when connected to iTunes

I have had an intermittent problem over the last 5 days with my iPhone 3G locking up and going into an endless loop of restarts. Initially the fault developed when disconnected from everything except the 3G network but now is manifesting particularly when connected to iTunes - it will operate fine when on the 3G network or WiLAN but when connected to iTunes it goes back into the loop of restarts - sometimes but not always.
It does the same when connected to any of my MacBook, iMac or Win XP machines, with different cables on each so I know it is not a desktop or cable issue.
I have tried resets of the phone, restoring the phone, restarting computers, etc. The endless loop can be halted by disconnecting the USB cable, but it returns when reconnected. In Win XP I get an "unknown error" message and a dialogue box that says iTunes is unable to connect to the iPhone " " (which is not my phone name).
All suggestions appreciated, before my employer takes back the trial iPhone and gives me back the old Blackberry.

hi! i'm a brand new iPhone 3G user (8/3). i did the initial install & synch on my laptop last week.
when i connected to my laptop last night, it asked if i wanted to update the software. i said no last night but earlier today say yes. it all seemed to go smoothly until this part where it said "verifying iPhone software" in iTunes. i let that run for 30 min or so but it was holding up everything else on my laptop so i finally disconnected the iphone.
the iphone didnt like that very much. i tried resetting with the power button (top) but nothing changed. when the iphone came on, all i saw was an iTunes icon and the connection cord on the screen. seems like apples way of telling me to re-connect so i connected to itunes again and it told me i'd have to restore everything. i clicked the button and again, it all went along smoothly until the "veryifying iPhone software" message again. i've been sitting in a holding pattern there for over 1 hour now.
i realized about 30 min ago that the iphone wasnt on so i turned it on. it stays on for 10 min or so then shuts off - so i turn it on again.
how can i get out of this holding pattern?

  • My brand new iPod Touch has asked me to connect to iTunes multiple times so it can be restored, what should I do if it continues?

It has happened twice now after only two days.  I connect it to iTunes and it restores, and then after some use it will start to react very differently and slow, not function properly.  Then when I restart it says it needs to connect to iTunes again and be restored.  If this happens again, what should I do?

Some Data may have become corrupted and if you are Restoring from Backup it is being put back into your Device.

  • I locked myself out of my ipod touch for 60 mins then actually typed the wrong password in again.  Now it is telling me to "connect to itunes".  I am unsure how to do this.  I am unable to use my ipod at all now. Please help.

    Hi,
Due to my brother locking me out of my ipod touch I had to wait an hour to log in again.  Unfortunately when I did this, I, again put in the wrong password twice more, each time locking me out for a further 60 minutes.  On my 3rd attempt to log in the wrong password was entered again.  This time though instead of logging me out for another 60mins it now tells me to "connect to itunes" but I have no idea how to do this and I am now unable to use my ipod.  Please help.
