Connect to phone/DSL thru Airport?

i’ve just moved to an area which requires a dial-up connection. i’m trying to get online using the phone connection plugged in to airport and my built-in modem to dial up but it’s not working. is this possible?
in the past i’ve never had a problem with my airport but i’ve always used the standard ethernet/cable connection, from a isp supplied modem – with my iBook. i’d never tried a dial-up connection with the iBook via airport as i never needed to.
i just bought a powerbook and transferred all my settings over successfully (i think) as everything is working ok. i get a strong signal from airport and i’m sure i could get online if i had an ethernet connection. my powerbook airport recognizes my network and i can get online at other wi-fi locations no problem.
is airport supposed to work this way, dialing up from my internal modem to my airport? when i plug the phone connection directly into my powerbook the modem works fine. do i have to re-install anything on my powerbook using my airport disk? i’d hate to mess something up.....
thanks! ..... phil

if your airport base station has a phone line port, then it should be able to connect to the internet with dial up and broadcast a signal for wireless internet.
to get it working:
1. connect phone line to base station
2. connect to wireless network from airport menu on computer
3. once connected to network, open the Airport Admin Utility
( located in /applications/utilities/Airport Admin Utility )
4. when you open it up, you will see a screen with your base station listed.
5. select base station and click on the " Configure " button
6. this will take you to another screen, select the " Internet" tab
7. in the "Connect Using" field. select " Modem v.90 )
8. the following fields will change
9. enter in your dial up number, and any other requested information
10. click on " Update "
11. you base station will restart and it will take a couple minutes for the network to come back up
12. test out your internet connection
If you still need help, you can call applecare, and they can walk you through it.

After connecting Ooma phone service, my airport works fine, but it constantly blinks yellow. Should I be concerned?

You will get error messages in the airport utility..
Please go to the utility and click on the red circle on the airport. It should have a number in it.. which will be the number of issues you have.. eg double NAT.
If you previously had the Airport setup as main NAT in the network.. the ooma device just took over.. so you need to redo the setup of the airport to have a subsidiary role.
If you don't understand  the issues list them for us.. but certainly adding the ooma is not going to go without effect.

  • COnnecting phone line to AirPort

I connected a phone line to Airport. Once I do this it does not allow me to use my cordless phone, it says the cordless is "in use". Its not connected to my cordless phone at all. I really don't understand why this would, in effect, block my cordless phone line. WHen people try to call my house and the phone line is connected to Airport the line is busy. I really don't understand. The reason I was connecting the phone line to Airport in the first place is to route FAXes to the computer so I can store & print in a FAX folder. Thanks for any help anyone can give me. I just don't get it.

    I have the one below:
802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
Then, unfortunately, it will not support Internet connectivity via a phone line.
I still don't, however, understand how it blocks out my cordless home phone.
The AEBSn will operate in either the 2.4 or 5 GHz radio band. Cordless phones operate typically operate in either the 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, or 5.8 GHz bands ... with most common ones in the 2.4 GHz range. When both are operating at the same time, they have the potential of causes interference with each other.

  • My mac pro laptop cannot access the internet which is cable thru airport extreme any suggestions

My Mac pro cannot access the internet cable but is connected to wi fi thru airport extreme. my apple desktop works fine on the system and sits next to my laptop. any suggestions

"I have an ethernet cable in port 1 on my computer. That is configured manually to access ther office network."
Do you have a "real" IP address or a private (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x) IP address?
"The wireless router was connected to the company server only for the purpose of getting me online through Airport because I couldn't access it using an ethernet connection"
Could not access it because their network security blocked you by intent, or had some unknown technical difficulty?
Unless you are blocked by intent or ommission (if they have to explicitly allow your machine) I can think of no technical reason why your wired connection should not both get you on their network and on the internet in general. You should not need to be dual homed (though dual homing should work as well).
Please answer the questions above when you can - I think solving the wired LAN issue will be easier if you are not being intentionally blocked.

  • Cannot use DSL for wireless & phone simultaneously with Airport Express

Hello, I've just moved and switched to DSL from cable modem.
    SBC DSL
One phone jack with the supplied filter on it allowing connection to the phone and supplied wired router
They provided a CD that configured the connection for me. In their ethernet connection it is not PPOE. Just DHCP. When I connect the laptop directly to the router via ethernet, I am able to surf and talk on the phone. When i connect the router to the Airport express and connect wirelessly, I can use either the phone or the internet. When I make a phone call the wireless drops.
Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens?
    Thanks,
    Neobe

    It's a 2.4 GHz phone
    This is likely your problem.
2.4GHz phones are notorious for interfering with WiFi networks, as they share the same frequency range.
This is a very common problem.
    I would suggest switching to a 900Mhz, or a 5.8GHz cordless phone.

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

  • PC Connecting thru Airport but Not mac

I am unable to connect to internet on my mac thru Airport Extreme. My PC is picking up my network fine. Network does not show up when scanning for available networks. When I entered my network and password it tells me airport is plugged in but not connected and when I use Asisstant to try I am told my password is invalid (which it is not.)

Microsoft's WPA2 Fix for PC's fixes issues where PCs cannot connect to modern wireless routers.
To fix connection issues to Airports from PCs, just google WPA2 Fix for XP .
Now for my Rant... This is a hot fix that was released by Microsoft in 2005. Even brand new laptops being sold today, with XP, and then running the 116 updates from Microsoft will not automatically get this update! You must manually search, download and run it. How does Microsoft continue to have such garbage support?

  • External wont stay connected thru airport

I have an external hard drive connected wirelessly thru my airport. I have always had issues with it staying connected, so much so they replaced my airport. Now that I have upgraded to SL, the problem has gotten way worse, it stays connected for maybe 20 minutes, then I have to restart in order to get it to connect again. Anyone have a work around for this? Or a better suggestion of how to connect it? I have the airport joining my wireless at&t network... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, it connects via USB to the airport, but it uses the power of the airport. When I purchased the drive at the Apple store, they were aware that it was going to connected that way, so I hope thats not the reason! thanks!

  • When I reopen my computer (macbook pro) it connects to my dsl connection and not to my airport extreme network that I created

I purchased yesterday an airport extreme, everything works fine, but the thing is that when I close my laptop (just shutting down the screen) and then reopen it, instead of conecting to the airport extreme network I created, it connects to my DSL connection. Is this normal? Do I have to keep entering my own airport extreme network after I close/shut down my computer? Thank you very much

Hi Bob, I solved it, it had to do with the preferred networks. But thanks anyways!

  • Cannot connect synology nas thru airport

  • Loss of internet connection thru airport express

    Hi
Every time I download software updates I lose my internet connection.
I then have great difficulty in re-connecting. I have tried using the lock on the network connections to keep the settings , but for some reason the lock is unlocked after a period of time even though I have not requested it. I suspect that there may be a conflict between the keychain access and the airport express but I cannot prove this for sure. Does anyone have any suggestions ?
    Fred

Lost connections, slow connections and difficulty connecting can all be due to a noisey phone line. I have a dedicated modem line that was giving me all of these problems. I connected a phone to it and listened, the the noise was terrible. Turns out the phone line was rubbing against a tree and shorting out a half mile away. Now it's fixed, and works great.

  • Connecting to wireless thru airport express (joined home network)

I have a wireless router in my bedroom, which is the source of internet connection.
I use the airport express to join this connection, and this airport express is now plugged in my living room.
the name of the wireless connection is "my_name room".
the name of the airport express is "my_name airport express".
i cannot locate the "my_name express" on my devices, including macbook pro, and iphone 5.
i can only locate "my_name room".
is this normal for using airport express as an extension of a network ?
    thanks in advance.

What are the benefits of extending a wireless network then ?
Unfortunately, you are not extending your wireless network since the Express is not compatible with your router for that purpose.
The benefits to extending a wireless network...assuming that your Express is working with a compatible wireless router.....are the same as "joining" with the added plus that the Express is also providing more wireless signal, so the wireless signal strength will be provided over a greater area.
Another question is, the only purposes of joining a wireless network are for AirTunes, and remote printing ?
As I mentioned above, the Express can be used for AirTunes or a remote printer when it is configured to "join" a network. It can only "extend" a wireless network when it is used with another Apple product. In that case, the Express is configured to "extend a wireless network".

  • Unable to connect to wifi modem using airport

I am unable to connect modem thru' airport utility whereas other devices (laptop/phones) are easily getting connected. I am even unable to create a new network even though the password is correct, which I have verified from modem properties. Even tough modem is working fine using ethernet, App Store is not connecting giving some message about missing secure connection. Other sites, even Apple support, are working fine. Why is mac refusing to add a new preferred network? This problem has cropped up suddenly today.

Can you connect to any other wireless network?
