Connect to S-Video

OK, been looking everywhere and can't seem to find a definitive answer. Can I hook up the Apple TV via S-Video? We have an older Sony TV (wife's not rteady to upgrade that yet...) and some screwy Kenwood receiver. Right now I have our Dish Network/DVD Player/PS2 all hooked up to the Kenwood via S-Video. I can also hook up my iPod 5th Gen via S-Video. Is this possible with the AppleTV, or will I need some type of converter box?

no there is no s-video connector built into the apple tv.

i had to purchase one to hook it up to my projector, wish i had noticed this before i bought the projector.
don't know what to say about the ipod, i don't have one.

Hello again Parker -
The basic setup is Digital Cable Box, DVD Player, Denon Receiver/Amp and TV Monitor. To that I added the Apple TV. The Receiver only has two HDMI IN slots (one for cable and one for the DVD) and one out to the Monitor.
[I bought a switcher to toggle the DVD and the AppleTV back and forth but just disconnected the DVD to simplify when I ran in to trouble.]
So now I have:
     HDMI from the Cable Box to the Receiver
     HDMI from the Apple TV to the Receiver (in the old DVD slot which always worked well)
     HDMI from the Receiver to the Monitor
     RCA's from the Receiver to the Subwoofer and the other speakers
In addition I have some backup connections:
     S-Video, Optical Audio and L/R RCA's from the Cable Box to the Receiver
     S-Video from the Receiver to the Monitor
Wait - JUST FOUND IT!
By going thru the excercise to track all of the connections per your suggestion, I found an anomaly when I switched Receiver sockets for the HDMI links. The video moved but the audio didn't. Turns out the monitor was using the optical audio feed from the receiver. So I disconnected the optical audio and the monitor automatically switched to the HDMI audio feed!   Looked promising...
So I first connected an optical audio feed from the ATV to the receiver - Audio! Then I pulled it, but the audio didn't switch to the HDMI feed. It stopped. Would be OK if all I was going to use is the ATV, but I need the DVD player too and I can't use a switcher to toggle between them if I have to unplug the optical audio each time.
This is becoming a career! Any suggestions?

Options for when an iOS device gets locked because of forgotten passcode:
Restore (and reset passcode) on your device by connecting it to the last computer to which it was connected:
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
If you cannot connect it to the computer to which the device was last connected (or the device was never connected to a computer) you will have to use recovery mode to completely reset the device, losing all data:

Apple TV & S-Video connection to a video beamer

Hi,
I have two video beamers running in my café. Both are connected via a S-Video-Splitter to the DVD Player (S-Video out of the DVD-Player goes to the Splitter, from there two S-Video-Cables go to the two video beamers).
I am thinking about exchanging the DVD-Player for an Apple TV where I want to store all m old chinese SVCDs, VCDs or DVDs.
However, I am not sure if Apple TV supports S-Video Out connection to a video beamer. Who can help??? How can I convert my SVCDs to the Apple TV format???

The Apple TV does not support s-video; only HDMI and component video. There are component video to s-video converters such as this one, but I have no idea how well they work.

Upgrade to Lion broke iMovie 08 - iSight Camera - No camera connected - To import video, please connect a camera - error message

I recently upgraded to OSX Lion. My MackBoo Pro is fully patched and updated. I can launch iMovie 08 but when i try to record or import video from camera it get the error message. No Camera Connected - To import video, please connect a camera.
All my other applications work fine with iSight including iChat, Skype, PhotoBooth. So why would a specific upgrade to Lion break iMovie 08?
I looked at the other posts on this topic and no one has a really solid explination or fix.
help please!!

That is odd. When logged into Discussions, the Profile tab on my personal Apple Support Communities > People page includes the following screen-shot from immediately below the big avatar picture:
Clicking on the "Edit" link opens the dialog window shown in this screen-shot:
The choices bar lets you correct your OS. Update saves the info.
If yours does not work this way, try a different browser. (These screen shots are made using Safari on my Mac.)

If you want to fix your problem, it is time to reinstall and updated to the most current iMovie '08 version.
If you did not buy iLife '08 separately, perhaps it was included in the Software Applications disk(s) that came with your Mac.

I am using iMovie '11 (version 9.0.4), so I cannot test your specific version. iMovie 9.0.4 is properly working for me after I restarted it one time.
However, depending on individual system configurations, Lion compatibility may be version dependent. For example, this forum post contains reports of iLife '08 (and even older) working with Lion. Moreover, as shown in this screen-shot from the roaringapps listing, it is the newer versions that may have problems:
Your version 7.1.4 should work with no trouble if all your Apple software is up to date.

Playing iTunes or Sony Connect music and videos on the 8820

How can I move iTunes or Sony Connect music and videos to the 8820? I've got Desktop Manager 4.3 software, but the only way I can get the iTunes music (video won't copy) to the 8820 is to first burn it to a cd and then "import" with the version of Roxio on Desktop Manager and then copy it via Roxio onto the 8820. In the process I lose the music track descriptive information (artist/track). Also using this process I've now got 2 copies of the same songs on my desktop plus a cd I can't seem to add songs to. What is the most efficient and effective way to do this?
I have not tried to deal with my Sonny Connect library yet -- any advice on getting those songs onto the 8820?
Also, I have never had an iPod and am new to iTunes -- is there a better music and video service out there? Preferrably one where it is easy to copy the songs to the 8820 as that is my only portable music device. Sony's Connect service is out of business so my old ATRAC player is now a portable radio with old songs on it Thanks.

It is the best and easiest way to use your ipod.
When you manually manage your music you choose what to add and delete from the ipod. You dont have to sync your ipod.
When it is on manual you can use your ipod on as many computers and itunes libraries as you want without losing any music off your ipod.
You just drag and drop the songs, videos and playlists you want from the itunes library to the ipods name.
Right click and delete what you dont want from the main playlists under the ipods name.
Nothing will ever be deleted or added until you direct it and you can safely use it on any computer.
If you click manually manage music nothing will change on your ipod as it is now until you physically add or delete things.
If you resync with an itunes library later, though, you have to be careful because anything not in that itunes library will be deleted off the ipod. I always keep my ipod manually managed because I use it on several diff computers.

If it is manually managed and you go to your friends house you can use her itunes library which means basically getting music from any other itunes library you want. Not just your own.

I want to try to use connect to record video of an instructor
to include in an online coures. I can record myself as the
presenter, but I want to know if I can use it to record video of a
participant? I looked in the documentation but couldn't find any

You can. You will need to make the participant a presenter or
give the participant enhanced participant rights to the camera
tool. They can then broadcast their video and you can record it.

Error Message When Trying to Connect to a Video Chat

Hello,
I have just purchased a new iMac, and have been trying to use iChat for a video session between me and my friend (who has a Windows XP with SP2 system). She has a webcam installed and plugged in, with the newest version of aim running.
Every time we try to get a video session running, we keep coming up with error messages, or they only show as One-Way. When they do show it as a One-Way, she can only see herself, and I can only see myself.
On the iChat system, her buddy name only comes up with a microphone, which makes me assume something is wrong on her side and not mine, but I would like to see if there is something I need to do, also.
Here is an error message that popped up when we tried to start a session. If you can help me out in solving this issue, I would be very grateful.

I have a Mac Mini, and it won't accept connecting my Sony video camera. So I got a SD mem card reader to unload my movies from. It worked the first time I used it a few months ago. This time it says it doesn't recognize the format I am trying to use?

I have all thenecessary updates. I have switched over from a PC to Mac back in April and have nad nothing but problems adapting. I don't know why this worked the first time, and put my videos inti imovie, and now it doesn't recognize it at all. And the Mem card reader does work, because I just put the SD card from my regular camera into it and it downloaded those fine, it just won't take my movies!

Which sony camera? I have a Sony HDR-CX550 right now and have been able to use the SD card as well as connect the camera directly. I also had CX110 that work too. You may want to try to copy the complete top level folder from the SD card to the Hard drive, then try to "import from Camera archive" and select that folder.

How to connect Cam to Video to Satellite L655D?

My daughter has a Toshiba Satellite L655D and wants to get Video footage she has shot on a Sony DCR-HC51 camcorder onto her system. The camera supports DV iLink s400 with a 4 pin IEEE1394 firewire connector. The laptop however doesn't appear to have any firewire connectivity. Does anybody please know of a way to either convert the iLink to USB or any other method for achieving this.

I dont have experience with firewire connection but I found on some online shops a Firewire to USB converter
That means you can connect the cable to the camera and then via USB plug you can connect it to your computer. This should work
Just check some online shops or get in contact with your local authorized service provider. Im sure they can order such accessories for you. :)

Mini-DVI cable and connecting via s-video to scart cable

Hey I bought a mini-dvi adapter a while back and have just purchased a s-video to scart cable to connect it to my television but there is no picture showing just a blue screen. Any help would be gratefully received.

which adapter did you buy exactly?
there is 3 for this series of macbook - DVI, VGA, & analog RCA - S-Video.
if you bought the analog RCA - S-video, I belive the one for the UK has a different part #. you may have bought one for the States that may not support your standard.

How do i make a single connection to handle video, audio and chat

I'm developing an application and i want to make one single connection for video(netstream) and chat(sharedObject).
I have one connection for each but i have limited connection availeble in the server so i need to make a single connection to handle the video net stream and chat sharedObject.
I use this urls to connect:

How do I connect an external video camera to my MacBook Pro.

Our school has an indoor graduation ceremony and has a live video feed of the proceedings brodcast from the gymnasium to the overflow seating in the auditorium. I want to connect a video camera that has RCA outputs to my MacBook Pro, have the video show on the screen, mirror it to Apple TV in another room of our school and project the picture onto the auditorium's movie screen. I know that I could just hold up an iPad for two hours, but it would be nice to have a better zoom and a smoother pan than a handheld device. Any ideas of what I would need to connect a video camera with RCA outputs to my MacBook Pro?

Fluctuating gamma on TV connected via S-video adapter

I have a television (generic CRT) connected to my Powerbook G4 through the S-video adapter and an RCA cable.
Periodically (and I think with increasing frequency), it looks like the gamma setting for the TV fluctuates when it is displaying the line in from the Powerbook. It gets darker and darker... and then it gets lighter and lighter... and then it gets darker and darker... etc. It's a slow cycle, but I haven't been able to find any way of breaking it (restarting the computer, reconnecting the cables, re-detecting the displays, turning mirroring on and off) and it appears to happen whether the display is mirrored or part of a multiple display arrangement.
The one correlation I might have seen is between the temperature of the computer and the fluctuation: hotter -> fluctuation is more likely (no faster or more extreme, just more likely to happen). I think. Of course, the Powerbook spends so much time raging hot that it's hard to tell if this is coincidence or actually meaningful.
Has anyone else experienced this or something like it? Since it's sporadic, I have to hope that there is a fix ("always reboot before connecting the TV" would be a fine fix... if it worked), rather than marking it down as dying hardware.

It was indeed Macrovision copy protection. And, if anyone happens to pull this up on a similar search, it's worth noting that not all video players bother to transmit the Macrovision "protection" signal (this occurred to me as a I read this. With DVDs, 'tain't the hardware -- it's in the software!)
