Connect to separate large monitor possibility

I have the PowerBook G4. Is it possible for me to connect to a separate lrg flat screen monitor? If so what do I need for the connection, and does it have to be an apple monitor, or any suggestions of the best ones to look at. Or do I have to just save and buy the I-Mac.

Your Powerbook can drive an external monitor, and it doesn't have to be an Apple monitor. The maximum resolution supported on the external monitor depends on which Powerbook model you have, but all 17" models can support at least 2048 x 1536. The physical dimensions of the screen don't matter; it's the resolution that does. Whatever monitor you use, you will want to run it at its native (maximum) resolution, so that shouldn't exceed 2048 x 1536 pixels unless your Powerbook has a 1.67GHz processor (in which case it supports up to 2560 x 1600.

  • Hello MacBook Pro Musicians- I cannot read sheet music from the ipad. It is too small. I want to connect a large monitor, hopefully wirelessly to my 13 inch macbook pro. what would I need to connect ? Any suggestions on how to keep monitor from falling?

Hello Macbook Pro Musicians--I cannot read sheet music from my 13" macbook or from an IPad. The print is too small for these aging eyes! So I need to get a large monitor to attach to the Macbook.  I want the monitor to be connected wirelessly or using a blue tooth.  This will eliminate alot of potential mishaps
when playing out.  Also I am having a time figuring out how I am going to safely keep the monitor on somekind of music stand without falling!!!  Can anyone help me with this?

    Hi Julius,
As you can see in my profile section, my MBP is older by 5 years, 2GB RAM and with regards to question 1 (Q1), has no problems with having all those programs open at the same time with the possible exception of Photoshop since I use Gimp instead. With twice the RAM and much overall much better specs, Photoshop shouldn't be an issue. But you listed some other activities that might need that additional RAM. But the advise most give is to not get it from Apple but from a third party.
Q5 - I always get Apple Care. Only had to use it once but it paid for itself that one time.
Sorry, can't help you much with the questions you really want answered since I won't have a new MBP until (hopefully) next week but for Q4, I believe it depends on the peripheral. My current monitors are too old to allow them to be hooked up in a chain. Supposedly, if the monitors do have the ports, you could via the MBP Thunderbolt port. The speeds are also dependent upon the peripheral. If the external hard drive is using a USB 2 port, you are limited by that speed (480 Mb/s). If it has a Thunderbolt port, then from what I understand, we, my friend, are in for some great times because I believe your RAM will have the ability to access data as fast as it can take it at 10Gb/s (and if will need those kinds of speeds, the 8GB of RAM may be the way to go). The Thunderbolt demos on YouTube where they are accessing four video files from a Raid drive, then sending them back out via Final Cut Pro to a monitor are amazing. I'll probably never push this machine to anywhere near it's limits but I can't wait to see what others do.
    Peace,

You would need to find a 3rd party dispay extender app to accomplish this. The results may or may not be acceptable to you.

  • Can MBA connect to 2 external monitors?

I have been using a dual-display graphics card in a PC for some time, with 2 monitors connected to make a large working area. Is it possible to do this with the MBA? Is the mini displayport to DVI compatible with dual-display? So far, I have been able to successfully use the MBA with lid closed connected with one external monitor. Cheers!

My impression is that the dual-display adaptor may work with one of those Y DVI splitters for dual-monitor cards. But is anyone certain about this?

  • Connecting a 2nd Palette monitor to iMac

I have an iMac 24" 28Ghz (1Mac,8.1) and want to connect a second palette monitor to the mini DVI port, using a mini DVI to VGA connector.
A search of the forum shows issues with cursor jumping and wrong resolutions.
I really want to run my Adobe CS4 suite with the tabbed palettes on the second monitor to my right.
Is anyone doing this without issues?
    Peter

Well given the huge response, I figured I'd just go ahead and warn all the vendors that they could have their stuff back promptly if it didn't work as advertised.
I bought a dead cheap 2-for at OfficeWorks. 2 Philips 160EI TFT 40cm monitors, only A$186 for both. I also got an Apple mini-DVI to VGA adaptor which has dropped in price from Apple's previous rip-off rate to A$25.
Installation was quite straight forward although the monitor looks like a dwarf next to the 24" iMac.
I installed under OSX 10.5.8 and then switched to OSX 10.6.3. Under both it was recognised immediately but defaulted for some reason to a non-native resolution, easily fixed.
I didn't need to *color manage,* that's not what it's for, but both Apple's color calibration and the on monitor controls only screwed it up so I went back to the default settings just playing a little bit with the on monitor contrast and color to try and crisp up the Finder text which still seems too soft. Apple's color calibration lead it to be way too dark. The monitor controls way too light, so factory settings is where it stays.
Visually the monitor is a tad unsharp with a visible vertical banding a little like thin corrugation. Colors are pale, about max 70-80% tint to my eye.
I was able to set separate screen backgrounds, so that I could have a pleasing black & white background to my palettes.
I tested several applications running simultaneously along with movies on both monitors. All work flawlessly so far.
I can now run tutorial DVDs on the 2nd monitor whilst keeping the application to which it refers open on the main monitor. Nice!!
*Testing palettes with Adobe CS4:* They cleverly snap to whichever of the 2nd monitors edges they are dragged to and work perfectly even sensing the real estate available on the monitor. I have set them to snap to the inside (left edge of the 2nd monitor, which is to my right). This means that for the first time the optional sub-palettes pop out to the right in reading order.
All remember their position between re-startups. No sign of flickering or any of the problems reported in the forums. That is in both Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Flicking between fullscreen view using the tab keyboard shortcut and the toolbar options has different results. Sometimes the palettes stay with the main screen in full screen view, sometimes they disappear, I'm trying to work out what combination of actions sets off what.
*Testing palettes with iWork:* They have none of Adobe's smarts but can be stacked a little awkwardly to fit. Awkward because Apple hasn't worked out how to sensibly do this and made them different sizes. However they do remember their sizes (sort of) and positions between restarts.
Pages' Outline/Fullscreen view unfortunately blacks out both monitors. I was hoping I could keep my palettes visible on the 2nd.
Overall I am very happy. I worked with 2 monitors for almost 2 decades until Apple made it both expensive and extremely awkward on several occasions. It feels very liberating to have my full workspace clear again.
OSX is one clumsy design for handling windows, despite/because of all Apple's efforts.
There is no substitute for more/separate screen real estate. So far I am one happy camper.

  • Is Bandwidth monitoring possible?

    Hi,
I wanted to monitor my internet usage. Is it possible to build a bandwidth monitoring application using ActionScript 3.0 (with AIR + Flex).
    Aim:
Get total downloads and uploads going via ethernet.
(If possible display the list of ethernet cards and wifi cards and the user can select the one needed to be monitored).
Also get the time of connection.

    Dear Siva,
we did nearly the same in LV 4.0 times where the G Webserver was not integrated into LV. The only difference is that we used a java applet instead of javascript. It was running fine with Netscape 3 and Internet Explorer 4 on Win NT 4 machines.

  • Connect to two VGA monitors?

Is there anyway to connect my MacBook Pro to two separate VGA monitors -- not using the notebook monitor. The two VGAs would expand the desktop --- not show the same image.

Since there is only one video port built-in, you'd need to use either the [Matrox DualHead2Go|http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go> type adapter or a [USB video adapter|http://eshop.macsales.com/search/DVI/+HDMI+/+VGA+to+Video+DisplayAdapter]. DualHead2Go is not cheap (costs as much as a monitor) and USB adapters are slow. USB adapters are fine for static images (i.e.: Word documents, Excel spreadsheets.) Just don't expect to play WoW on the USB screen.

  • IMAC G4 LARGER MONITOR?

I just ordered a Imac G4 15'' monitor. I definitely want a larger screen lol. The 15 was the cheapest so that's why I bought it.
Is it possible to get a larger screen for it? I would prefer 20 or larger if possible. Where's the best place to look and is it easy to install as is with a pc?
    Thanks.
    This is my first mac.

Unfortunately, the only way to "upgrade" the LCD on an older iMac G4 is to purchase another iMac of this type. There were two other versions that Apple manufactured.
A 17" LCD model and 20 " LCD model. The screens are part of the entire unit.
iMacs are considered all-in-one type computers systems.
You cannot swap LCD panels between these models and there is no way to attach a larger, secondary
    external LCD panel for use.
    Sorry.

  • Should I offer an alternative view for Large Monitors?

    Hello
I have built a very straight forward web site to show around
200 images for an artist. The site is a very simple HTML/CSS and my
question is about whether I should offer an option for viewers to
    view on larger monitors?
Because the design/content is so minimal, on a very large
monitor (I Don't have one), I imagine the page content could look
sparse. I obviously want the site to be appropriate for as wide an
audience as possible and want the images to be large enough to get
a good look at them without bursting off the screen.
However, apart from wide appeal, a significant target
audience say, galleries and other image makers, will probably have
high-end kit for their browsing and probably, have huge monitors.
    so my question is:
Should I have the option for people to view the site on a
    large monitor?
If it's a good idea, I imagine that I could just duplicate
the site and upsize all the images. And then change my CSS to make
the text etc a bit bigger. I don't imagine a style-switcher is the
way to go because that would not deal with the image sizes.
I would really welcome any advice.
    Thanks
    Martin
    I know this isn't strictly a DW question but I don't know
where else to go with it?

    > Should I have the option for people to view the site on
    a large monitor?
I don't think so. The larger the monitor/resolution, the
    higher the
likelihood that the user has a sub-maximized viewport width.
    Why make extra
    work for yourself?

  • Problems with a large monitor?

In an earlier [post|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8888529#8888529] I mentioned my problems with jerky playback in iMovie 09. After lots of testing, it seems that the problem is related to my 30" monitor. When I start up iMovie on my MacBook Pro without the monitor attached, the playback appears pretty smooth. But with iMovie running on the 30" it is jerky. (Playing the clip in QuickTime is smooth, so it's not an inherent inability of the graphics chip to drive a large monitor quickly).
Anyone else using a 30" monitor successfully with iMovie? (Mine is an HP3065).

Two thoughts on this. First, are you connecting using DVI to VGA adapter? If your tv has a dvi input, use that - it's much better. Second, are you editing HD? If so, watching the video from within iMovie is for previewing. A finished Project Exported using Quicktime or Shared to one of the pre-defined output formats will produce a movie that will play back correctly even though it perhaps stutters at times from iMovie.

  • 15"  Retina Macbook Pro connected to a Thunderbolt Monitor

Can I leave the Laptop on when connected to the monitor and allow it to auto sleep or should I be turning the whole thing off?  Will it  shorten battery life?  I disconnect the laptop when I travel of course and turn it off,  but at home, I want it to be at the ready asmy home computer hooked up to the large monitor.  Any caveats?
    Thanks

No caveats - I leave my ATD connected to my late 2011 15" MBP 90% of the time. When I go to sleep, I put the machine and monitor to sleep (I also have it set for 3 hour sleep in case I forget to manually put it to sleep). I have my monitor set to 'sleep' after an hour of inactivity.
Just leave it plugged up and let your machines rest when you do - a small drain of electricity but it's not going to hurt your battery life or anything.

It's possible that the W2 you used was set up with the EchoSign service. It allows you to draw a signature with a mouse. This is available as well with more recent versions of Reader (10.1+) if the form isn't Reader-enabled or secured. You will see this in the Sign panel when the document is opened in Reader.
You can otherwise get an EchoSign account and upload your document and send it to your customers through the EchoSign service. You can establish a free account to see how it works.

  • Route E1 Connection to separate PABX via C2921 router

    Dear All,
Is there any possibility to route E1 connection to separate PABX through Cisco 2921 voice gateway router?
Telco----> 2E1(C2921 router)----> one for CUCM and one for Analog PABX.
    Thanks,

So yes - it's just a matter of careful dial peer configuration. You can take all calls from E1-A, prefix a digit or two, and use those digits to route to a specific outbound peeer that would point to the PBX of your choice.
Same for E1-B, with a different prefix and different destination, and for calls coming the other way..

  • Map access log connection ID to cn=monitor connection attr?

I need to identify where a particular connection is coming from.
The access log connection info is lost (logs rolled).
Is there a way to map a connection ID (conn=12073994) to a connection attribute under cn=monitor?
I assume that the first part of the connection attribute value is the file descriptor(?).
I thought that maybe the connection ID was based upon the connection time part of this attribute value, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
What are the two fields after the connection time?

If the access log has rolled, the mapping from the fd to the connection is probably not recoverable unless you turn on a higher level of debugging on the DS (8 = Connection management and/or 16 = Print out packets sent/received).
If the connection is not using SSL you could probably use a brute force approach to sniff possible connections and decode the traffic to determine if it's sending the same operations you see in the access log.
Or could you simulate a failover and force all your clients to reconnect...?
