Connect to SSTP Windows 2008 VPN

How can we connect to a Windows 2008 Server SSTP based VPN? Is there an option in the Internet Connect builtin VPN setup or we need a third party client/tool?
Thanks
K.

I am also having the same problem. All other clients can connect with the exception of my Android devices. The same devices connect immediately to our RRAS server running on Server 2003. Any info or help would be appreciated.

  • How to connect to Windows 2008 VPN server with certificate support

    Unfortunatelly if I select any Windows 2008 server compatible protocol (PPTP, L2TP) I cannot select PKI certificate, its only available for Cisco VPN. Yet my company has 1000 laptops and utilizing Windows 2008 Server for VPN (Cisco is too expensive and unnecessary because VPN is part of Windows Server). PKI certificate is required for connection security.
    Any plans to enable certificates for PPTP or L2TP in 2.1 firmware? Even better would be to add SSTP protocol with certificate support, because it takes only one standard TCP connection (https) per user (uses least possible NAT resources for heavy loaded NATed WiFi spots). Also in some public places https is the only option to connect as PPTP and L2TP are filtered.

  • How can i allow multiple incoming connections on my windows 8 vpn server?

    Hi eveyone,
    Im trying to find out how to allow more than 1 incoming VPN connection into my windows 8.1 PC and no clue how to do it without openVPN or other programs (which i have no clue how to set up either)
    Im starting to use my home NAS for work where I store everything on it so when ever I go to a job I can either access it or save a new file to it. The problem is my wife also wants to use it and I dont want to not be allowed to connect when I need to or
    not allow her to connect.
    Is there any way I can allow 2+ incoming connections on my home PC without getting a seperate software?
    If the only option is getting a seperate program can anyone provide something that I can settup to my home router so I can access the NAS by the private IP?
    Thank you

      Short answer - no. The client OS only allows one incoming VPN connection.

  • Remote Access to Windows 2008 R2 Server configured with local IP

    Hello,
    I have a Windows 2008 R2 Server configured with local IP (e.g. 192.168.1.115).
    Please how can I access it remotely outside its local domain through (remote desktop connection).
    Thank you.
    Tony.

    Hi Tony,
    Based on your description, you would like to connect to the Windows 2008 R2 server via remote desktop connection.
    So you need to enable remote desktop on the Windows 2008 R2 server if it is not already.
    1.Install and configure the Remote Desktop Session Host role service in the Windows 2008 R2 server.
    2.Add related user to the Remote Desktop Users group in the Windows 2008 R2 server.
    3.Configure remote desktop connection in the Client.
    Also, due to you would like to access it remotely outside the domain, so you will need a VPN connection or a port forward to connect through.
    For more details, please refer to the guide below,

  • Font smoothing settings doesn't consistently work for every login on Windows 2008 R2 when using a RDP client

    I'm trying to use the MSTSC client on a Windows 8.1 machine to connect to a Windows 2008 R2 server. In the MSTSC experience tab I checked the font smoothing option. Font smoothing works some times and doesn't work the other times. I don't see a pattern here.
    any kind of help is much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Prasanna

    Hi Prasanna,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    As you have Server 2008 R2, there is GPO setting available to specify whether font smoothing is allowed for remote connections.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment
    Do not allow font smoothing
    If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, font smoothing is allowed for remote connections.
    You can configure font smoothing on the Experience tab in Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) or by using the {allow font smoothing:i:1} setting in a Remote Desktop Protocol (.rdp) file.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Task scheduler in windows 2008 R2 cluster.

    We have clustered server and there's two nodes - Active(A1)/Active(A2).
    Ordinary client can connect A1, but A1 is failed then connect A2 by windows 2008 R2 cluster.
    We have a task scheduler exe module created by .net framework in each node.
    When A1 server is operated, we wanna just A1 job scheduler active.
    And A2 server is operated, just only A2 job scheduler acitve.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Doesn't Allow DPI (Font Size / Scaling) Changes on Remote Sessions

    I am using latest version of RDP Client 6.1  from my local Windows 7 Enterprise system, as well as RDP Client 6.1 from a Windows 2008 R2 server.
    When I connect to other Windows 2008 R2 servers, I am unable to increase the DPI settings.  In Control Panel > Ease of Access > Optimize Visual Display > Change the size of text and icons, I get a screen which says “The display settings
    can’t be changed from a remote session”.
    This is unacceptable.  I am able to change this setting on any Windows 2008 (pre-R2) server in multiple environments.  When is MSFT going to fix this issue in R2?
    I have seen other posts on this issue
    such as this one -- one person suggests exporting the registry settings under
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics and then to set them on my R2 server.
    Can I export those registry keys from a 2008 (non-R2) server where I have set the DPI to 125%, and then import them onto the R2 server?
    Thank you.

    This sort of works:
    Run this .reg file and logoff/logon.

  • SHP2013 UPS Syncing with a Windows 2008 DC

    Time for another very specific question : Anyone else having issues syncing Sharepoint 2013 with another domain (with full trusts setup) when connecting to a domain controller running on Windows Server 2008?
    Little bit more detail:
    We are in AD forest ForestA. We have Sharepoint 2013 that sync perfectly with our AD which is mostly Windows Server 2012/R2's and one or two Windows Server 2008 R2 - but nothing lower that that. Here are the functionality levels:
    Domaincontrollerfunctionality = 4
    Domainfunctionality = 4
    Forestfunctionality = 2
    We are trying to sync with a remote ForestB. All of the remote domain controller servers are Windows Server 2008 - except for one Windows Server 2003. Here are the functionality levels when talking to Windows 2008:
    Domaincontrollerfunctionality = 3
    Domainfunctionality = 2
    Forestfunctionality = 2
    And with a 2003 server:
    Domaincontrollerfunctionality = 2
    Domainfunctionality = 2
    Forestfunctionality = 2
    Full two ways trusts are setup and working between ForestA and ForestB.
    When setting up the UPS AD sync with ForestB when connecting to a Windows 2008 it fails with this error in the event log:
    "System.InvalidOperationException: Retrieve schema failed.Microsoft.ResourceManagement: System.InvalidOperationException: Retrieve schema
    failed."
    When setting up the UPS AD sync with ForestB when connecting to a Windows 2003 it works fine.
    When trying to do an incremental sync to ForestB when connecting to a Windows 2008 it fails with this error in the event log:
    "The management agent "MOSSAD-ADS" failed to run because the credentials were invalid. User Action - Verify the credentials and configuration for the management agent.”.
    When trying to do an incremental sync to ForestB when connecting to a Windows 2003 it works fine - even though I am not changing a single thing with the credentials! I use a local host file to force Sharepoint to go to the 2003 server.
    So to sum up - why can't out Sharepoint 2013 sync with ForestB when the connection goes to Windows Server 2008 but works fine when connecting to a Windows Server 2003?
    EDIT: To add information to this - we do have a user setup in ForestB with proper permissions in their forest!

    hank you for replying Trevor.
    domaincontrollerfunctionality level is a DC server unique flag which states what domain level that server can handle, and as such is tied to OS. A windows server 2003 (with domaincontrollerfunctionality level of 2) will not be able to handle a domain functionality
    level higher than two.
    There is a a KB about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322692
    But regardless of that, or if it's even a 2003/2008 issue or policy issue, I can't look at the security logs since I don't have access to the servers. They are completely outsourced and we only have access with LDAP to read information from their AD
    but nothing more. This is why Microsoft won't take this case further, they don't even want to test the scenario in a lab Environment until they can look at our Environment, which is impossible. The result is that 90% of my users are now showing up with only
    their account names instead of actual names - because our UPS can't read the information :(
    Edit: This is the flag I'm talking about:

  • Laserjet m1217 will not print through easyprint on windows 2008 server 64Bit

    We have a client that has the LaserJet M1217 that is connecting to our Window 2008 Server SP2 64Bit via Remote Desktop.  Easyprint recognizes the printer, but will not even print a test page.  We get a FAIL message.  We either need to know how to print through easyprint, or if there is a driver that can be installed remotely.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I would contact Microsoft about this. Since Easy Print is one of their features, they should know what is causing the error in the first place. Let me know what they say.

  • User cannot connect through VPN (Windows 2008 R2)

    Hello,
    TechNet has been a major help for some resent server and network problems our office has been having.
    There is one ongoing issue that no matter how much I try to fix, it wants to be stubborn and refuse to work properly.
    We have a user who has the necessary permissions to VPN using our router's IP address. Just recently, she found that she was unable to VPN. This was the beginning of our technical issues as after rebooting the router, our main server, and our QuickBooks
    server, we lost internet and access to the main server. Those issues have been resolved. However, the user is still unable to VPN.
    I have looked up every error code that has been presented when trying to connect to VPN (807 and 800 are the most frequent), and unfortunately, none of the solutions suggested worked. These errors occur when connecting through the WAN Miniport. I am trying
    to find out if I am overlooking something.
    What has been tried:
    Router rebooted
    Created new user in Active Directory
    Deleting VPN Users group and readding to user
    Changing tunneling protocol to L2TP instead of PPTP. Then, created a rule in Windows Advanced Firewall to allow UDP 1701.
    Creating new VPN connection.
    Confirmed with ISP that there are no issues with router
    I am not extremely familiar with Windows 2008 R2 and every fix I see online is extremely in depth with not much walkthrough information.
    I greatly appreciate any support anyone might be able to provide.
    Thank you!

    Hi ,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the client can’t access the VPN with error code 800 and 807.
    I have noticed that it failed to ping the VPN server form the client.  The VPN server should be connected from the client without VPN connection established. I suggest you to turn off firewall temporarily on both sides of client and VPN server, then
    try to ping the IP address of the VPN server’s interface which is connected to extranet network.
    If ping failed, there might be network connectivity problem. If ping successfully, check to see if the port is open for turning traffic. Detailed troubleshooting steps you may reference the link below:
    I received error 800, which says the VPN server is unreachable:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772616(WS.10).aspx#BKMK_1
    Troubleshooting commom VPN related errors:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/rrasblog/archive/2009/08/12/troubleshooting-common-vpn-related-errors.aspx
    If this problem still exits, does other user successfully access the VPN? Or just specified device can’t access? Would you simply describe the deployment of the VPN, such TCP/IP settings, VPN type.

  • Windows 2008 R2 RRAS VPN Issue

    Hello,
        I have a Windows 2008 R2 server configured with RRAS.  I have several persistent connections set up to do remote data backups.  After a while, the connections get disconnected and if I try to reconnect, I get an error message
    that states:
    An error occurred during connection of the interface.  A connection to the remote computer could not be established.  You might need to change the network settings for this connection.
    If I restart the RRAS service, then I can reconnect them all.  And they work fine until they get disconnected again.  The server is a standalone server, not part of a domain or anything.
    I previously had these connections set up on a 2003 server, and they worked pretty flawlessly.  It's only since I changed to this new server that these issues started.  Anyone know what the issue could be?
    Thanks.

    Is that Event ID 20167?
    Is there a DHCP Relay Agent configured?
    I assume the DHCP server has enough free IPs to hand out to RRAS when needed. RRAS grabs a block of 10 IPs from DHCP at a time to use for connections.
    How long is the lease?

    Hi Eric,
    yes we are using Windows 2008 SBS for the SAP EHP4 FOR SAP ERP 6.0/NW7.01 installation.
    we tried to create the key but it says access is denied.
    Actual thing is we got the server with Windows 2008 server 64 bit SBS (standard FE) with Domain Controller (DC) configuration.
    We have removed the DC using dcpromo to convert into Wokgroup and tried the SAP installation.
    I hope you got the idea and please let me know any further suggestions or it is the problem with the license.

    Hi Team
    We have our RDP client and i came across with one issue "Expected data got 3" with this client.
    This issue is getting while connecting some of below operating system flavors.
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Enterprise edition
    Microsoft Windows 2008 Standard edition
    Microsoft Windows 2003 servers
    When we are trying to get RDP to those servers with our client, getting "Expected data got 3" error. One more main thing here is the specified error is not getting for all the servers of same operating system in above list.
    Able to get the RDP console for those servers using mstsc client.

    are given in [T125] section 7, parts 7 and 10). The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure.
    In my code i am not getting SDin value as 26. Is it the problem with Remote desktop Licensing in RDP servers as specified in the specification like "The userData field of the MCS Send Data Indication contains a Security Header and a Valid
    Client License Data (section 2.2.1.12.1) structure."
    Could you please explain me is this issue is happening due to Licence configuration in RDP server and please provide support with server side configuration if any because our code works for other servers ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Pavan G.

  • Solaris nis client can't connect to Windows 2008 NIS Server across subnets

    I have been using Microsoft Windows Server for NIS for years to centralize some accounts accessing Solaris and Linux OS.
    Windows 2003 R2 Indentity Management for UNIX version of Server for NIS was last working version with Solairs.
    After upgrading Domain to Windows 2008 all Solaris clients that are on different subnets fail to bind and connect to NIS servers now.
    These servers already were setup using ypinit -c to manually add the NIS servers to connect to and prior to Windows 2008 this worked.
    Now no Solaris nis clients on different subnets (no firewall between) can connect , but other Unix/Linux OS connect fine.
    Is this a known issue and can we get a resolution as it seems only Solaris is affected?

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
    Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
    Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
    Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
    "I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
    From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
    If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
    Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
    If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
    We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards
