Yes. You need a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. Once you have the adapter, just plug in the HDMI cable to an HDMI port on your reciever.

Apple tv connected to yamaha receiver via hdmi, but only plays in stereo

I have connected my new apple tv 2 to my yamaha receiver, but it is only playing hd content in stereo. I am using the same hdmi cable that I had previously used on a PS3, so I know that it is capable of receiving 5.1 content. I have tried streaming hd content from Netflix as well as hd videos from apple tv, but both are still just playing audio in stereo format. I have played with all the settings on the apple tv, but nothing is working. Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that the content is 5.1 as I have tried various HD programming streamed from my iPad, on Apple TV, and HD shows streamed from Netflix. I have tried the Dolby Digital setting in both "Auto" and "On" settings and neither appears to work. I would assume that HD content would play in 5.1?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

Well basically it is in the title, my Macbook Pro will no longer connect to my tv via HDMI.
I have been using this cable for a long time and works perfectly.
earlier today i used it to connect my mac up to my parents 4k tv, it worked fine, did what i wanted to do.
but now when I've come to connect it up to my tv it recognises there is something connected but it won't display anything
it just says no signal on my tv
im not sure whether my mac has changed some settings on its own to run on 4k but now to high to run on my 1080p tv
pretty annoying so any ideas id be very grateful.

What is the process for connecting ethernet. Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left. Note Airport wireless is working.

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
After restarting, it worked.

It sounds like you are getting excessive CPU usage when connecting an external display via HDMI to your computer. I would try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the article named:

When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:

Can anyone confirm that the Mini Mac can connect to the LE32R via HDMI?
IF so - can anyone give me some instructions - I cant get it to work.
When I boot up the black and white DOS like commands come up, but then it goes blank and says "no signal"

Satellite A300 - Can only use stereo on receiver via HDMI

I was wondering if someone could help me with my audio issues. I have a Satellite A300 PSAGCC-06h019 running Vista home premium 64bit SO1, and I am having trouble hooking up with my receiver. I have attached my computer to the receiver via the HDMI port, and only 2 channels (stereo) are available to be selected.
I have the latest Realtek drivers, the latest ATI radeon drivers, but I cannot select surround sound speakers in the audio setup, only stereo. Is there some sort of registry patch or update or something which will allow me to select more than 2 channels output through my HDMI? I have a very nice surround sound setup and I would like to maximize my entertainment value.
Also, when I go into the HDMI audio settings, there is a radio box to check dolby digital and dts, when I test the dts and dolby digital, it goes into surround sound and plays the test tones, but I can't set the speakers to 5.1 or 7.1 for watching movies.

yes, I am referring to configuring the HDMI output on the Playback Devices Tab, I select the HDMI output, and click the Configure button on the bottom left, but the only option available is 2-channel.
I play Dolby Digital and DTS movies through my receiver all the time, through a separate HDMI port. I can simulate surround sound through stereo with my receiver but multi-channel mp4 files are always mixed down to 2-channel. I know the computer is capable of outputting DTS and Dolby Digital because on the Supported Formats tab of the Properties screen, I can test the DTS and Dolby Digital and those work perfectly.

I copied this question from a discussion archived from 2008, it's pretty much my question, although I hope to get a little more information on the answers... My stereo receiver (Sony STR-D511) is an older one but currently my TV (signal from Directv DVR) plays through the receiver on video 1 but I can't get the Apple TV to play through the stereo... thing plugged in - that one with svideo/rca cables is AV 3, where my DVRbox is going - the red/white cables on the right without a yellow go to my video 1 input on my receiver... the cables on the side are for my dvd player which the audio only works thru TV as well... then also below the red/white ones is HDMI3 where the apple tv is going... that's why i thought the stereo would work because its right below the cables that go to the stereo?

I have my MacBook connected to my HDTV via mini DVI to HDMI and the picture is perfect, but I cannot make the sound work. I've tried going to sound under system preferences but my tv is not listed as a device. Do you know how I can make the sound work?

You need an audio cable to connect your Mac's audio out port to your TV's audio in port. The minidisplayport does not send sound.

Very hard to use LR5 when connected to External TV via HDMI

I was teaching some post processing today using LR5 connected to a 50" Sony TV via HDMI cable and could barely use LR. It took a few attempts to use the brush or gradient tools.

Can I use my ipad to connect to denon HDMI port so that I can use it as a display device to view the onscreen menu of the denon.
As you know onscreen menu or GUI of denon is displayed only via HDMI port, so I want to connect my ipad to this HDMI out port of denon so that I can use it as a display...is that possible?

Have you already setup the HDMI input at the TV in the HDTV menu?
It isn't a matter of using a proper channel.
You don't hold the P key.
Hold the Windows key down and tap the P key to see the available projection options.

You will need to choose the correct (Input) on the TV for the MacBook.....say your cable box is set to HDMI !.....and your MacBook is on HDMI 2.....you will need to select HDMI 2 from the TV's menu for the signal from the MacBook to show on the TV screen.......the selection choices are examples as I do not know exactly how you have things connected......

Connecting ps3 to U350 via hdmi

I've had my laptop for a good 6 months and still haven't removed any of the stickers it came with. One of the stickers reads: HDMI Supports High Definition video and audio output and input. I've had no problems with the output to my hdtv using hdmi, but I was wondering if it would be possible to connect my ps3 to the hdmi port? I'm going on a trip and it would be a lot more convienent to use my laptop than trying to pry the cable cords off the hotel tvs, on top of buying the adapter as well. If anyone has any idea's on how to make this work it would be greatly appreciated.=D
