Connect to synology

Since upgrading to OSX Lion from snow leopard, I cannot see my Mac from the Synology ds211j file browser, BUT on my Mac I can connect to the synology fine and see the NAS. So I can get files from the synology to the mac, but cannot get files from the mac to the synology. Some simple privacy settings on the mac?

Hi,
I've the same issue since I've upgraded to OS X Lion. I've also upgraded DSM to 3.2 Beta, but my MacBook Pro still stay invisible on DSM file browser.
I'm found a workaround to copy file on my NAS, browsing it directly through MAC finder. In fact, instead of downloading file from NAS, I'm putting them from MAC.

  • Is there a way to connect to Synology 212j NAS through router?

Since I upgraded from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1 I cannot connect my Synology 212j NAS via my router.
Diskstation/iMac Works fine when connected directly with ethernet cable. When connected via router with ethernet no connection is possible.
find.synology.com does not find the NAS, the synology assistant finds the NAS, can configure the IP address, but displays "connection failed" at the end of the process.
When wifi is enabled I can share files through finder. At no point am I able to display DSM configuration interface at 192.168.1.XXX:5000.
All firmware up to date, all devices reset and rebooted several times
The router lists the diskstation IP address in devices (in router configuration ui)
    Tried fixed IP and DHCP
    Tried port forwarding all services
MacBook Air with Mountain Lion 10.8.5 connects flawlessly to diskstation.
I think there is a problem with the way the IP addresses are being managed between Mavericks OS X and the router is there a way to work around this?

dont think so but I could be wrong
as it were I didn't like the build in audio so I connected some external logictech 2.1 speakers  but there
are times when I use headset so I bought this one
or any minijack splitter will work too so I have 2 things connected to the headset port works just fine

  • How do I connect my Synology NAS to my AirPort Extreme base station?

I'm considering replacing an Apple AirPort Extreme base station with my current 5 year old router.  I would appreciate if someone could tell me how the AirPort Extreme differs from any regular router.  I do not have any OS X devices, but I have a lot of iOS devices.  If my understanding is correct, I can set up the AirPort from an iOS device.
Also, I need to know how I would connect my Synology NAS system to the AirPort Extreme network via an Ethernet cable.  I would need to be able to acces the files on the NAS through Windows clients.  My Synology NAS currently has a web interface....would I still be able to access that web interface with the AirPort?
Thanks for all your help in advance as I am VERY new with networking devices.

I would appreciate if someone could tell me how the AirPort Extreme differs from any regular router.
The AirPort Extreme is a combination router, wireless access point, and Ethernet switch. It also provides both external USB hard drive and printer sharing. So, it is not much different than most other routers on the market today. The one main difference is how you administer it. Unlike most other routers that employ a web-based administration interface, the AirPorts use a dedicated utility, called the AirPort Utility.
I do not have any OS X devices, but I have a lot of iOS devices.  If my understanding is correct, I can set up the AirPort from an iOS device.
Yes. There are versions of the AirPort Utility for OS X, Windows, or iOS devices.
Also, I need to know how I would connect my Synology NAS system to the AirPort Extreme network via an Ethernet cable.  I would need to be able to acces the files on the NAS through Windows clients.  My Synology NAS currently has a web interface....would I still be able to access that web interface with the AirPort?
Your Synology NAS would connect to the AirPort Extreme pretty much the same as for any other manufacturer's routers. That is, you would connect it to one of the available LAN (opposing arrows) ports on the Extreme. You would still use the same web-based interface as before.
Note: When connected to an Ethernet port, the NAS would still function as usual. The AirPort Extreme would not provide any file sharing functionality when connected in this manner. All file sharing features would be the responsibility of the NAS device.

  • Connecting to Synology Disk Station

I have a Synology Disk Station that shows up in the Finder under Shared (devices).  But when I try to connect to it, the connection attempt fails.  There is a button in finder called "Connect As", but clicking it just tries again to connect without allowing me to put in any connection credentials.
Has anyone successfully been able to connect their Mac Pro (late 2013) to a Synology Disk Station (specifically the DS414)?

I have a Synology DS1513+ connected to a number of Macs.  Every now and again, one of the Macs would be unable to connect to the Diskstation via Finder, although files could be opened from an application.  Until I saw Zaga's note, the only solution was to restart the Mac.  Now by using the CMD+K and using the fixed IP address that I assigned to the Diskstation, I could reconnect.  Finder shows "Diskstation" as a failed connection but all the folders and files are there under the fixed IP address.
I assume that there's a conflict somewhere on the network but me and networks don't get on very well.
    Thanks Zaga

  • Cannot connect synology via Mac book

    Hi  I am lost,
Since I had an IP conflict within my network, I cannot connect my synology DS212 NAS anymore to my mac book pro. The strange thing is that I have no issue with connecting with eacht other device to the nas like windows laptop Iphone Ipad. I think there is still something wrong with IP addresses but when I run the synology assistant to find the NAS, the ip address is located but get's the message the connection failed
Would be great if somebody has some tips or tricks.
    Thanks Jack

Hi, both protocols  are supported, get still an error with the following message " there is a problem with connecting to serve 192.168.0.193" the server does not excist or is not accessable. Check the servername or the ip address fromthe server, check network connection and try again.  In my opinion network is ok because otherwise i could not connect also via another device. thks

  • Extreme & nas Synology

    To all
    I have the following question.
    Situation:
    Linksys wireless router
    Airport express ( room x)
    Airport extreme (room Y)
I don not want to change the linksys wreless router for the aiprort extreme.because the linksys is after extended testing very stable.
I got the airport express to extend my network and connect a synology nas to my network.
The extreme was a present to extend my network & and connect 2 more nas & printer to my network.
I know by now that you can not extend de linksys signal with the extreme and express ( that is what i read on the forum and to late on teh website...:( )
what works is the network conection with my nas via the express utp port. Everywhere i can connect with the nas.
    Question:
but do i want to do the same with the extreme as with the express , connecting the nas via utp port to my network, it does not work. the nas is not found in my network.
Does somebody know what i do wrong?
    Thanks
    Philippe

    It is not working.
I tried setting a static IP for my NAS in the NAS UI and also reserved the IP in AEBS.  The IP is already outside the DHCP range.
I then port forward UDP 9 in the port forwarding box.  In the same port forward entry, I have forwarded port 5000, 5001, 5006, 5007 and 5458.
However, I used the port check in the Network utility of my Mac and found that the port 9 was not forwarded.
Any idea on what the reason is?
    Thanks~!

  • Can't see HDD on airport network

Until recently my home network setup was organised like this: internet modem (Sierra aircard) with wireless turned off, connected by ethernet to Apple Time Capsule set up as a router. Wireless connection to various computers and to an Airport Extreme which, in turn, was connected via ethernet cables to a Mac Mini functioning as a music server, and to a Synology DS 213+ for music file storage. This allowed me to connect from any computer to both the Mac Mini and the Synology NAS, which was useful for managing music downloads etc from my usual work computer.
Unfortunately, for some reason using the Time Capsule as a router interfered with the functioning of the internet modem. So I switched on the router function for the Sierra Aircard and changed the Apple hardware configurations so that the Time Capsule and Airport Extreme now simply 'join' the wireless network established by the Sierra. But what this means is that while internet functioning is better, the NAS is no longer shared across the network. It's visible to the Mac Mini and I can live with that if necessary since I can still access it through the screen sharing facility. But screen sharing is a bit clunky and not the most convenient way to go about things like downloading albums and organising music files on the NAS.
Does anybody have any suggestions about how I might make the HDD visible across the network again?
On the basis of suggestions elsewhere I tried connecting the  Synology to the Airport Extreme with a USB cable but all that achieved was to make the NAS disappear altogether. It obviously only functions with a LAN connection via ethernet.
I'd appreciate any comments or ideas or, better still, solutions that I'm obviously just missing.

...as I mentioned in my initial post.Don't get upset. Many times people use the lingo but haven't done the proper configuration. It is always to ensure the configuration is correct before proceeding to far. It's my two Appletalk laser printers that have the problem."AppleTalk" is the magic word. See Henry B.'s post for why you are having problems.

  • How do I ingest files from an external drive?

New to Prelude- I'm not able to locate, within the ingest dialog, the USB3 drive on which the files are located. I copied them from the DSLR (D600, mov wrapper.) I see my HD, just not the external. Am I missing something really obvious? Thanks.
    MBP 10.9.2

    Hi -
We haven't similiar extertal device in hand currently. So we tried to reproduce the issue with an external device ORICO 8628SUSC-PRO dual bay hard drive dock. It has eSATA (3GB/s) and USB (2.0) Ports. And connected it to a Mac Tower with 10.9.2 OS.
After tried several times with different capacity 500GB, 2.0TB, 4.0TB, etc, the hard drives could all be recognized by Prelude CC without any issue through eSATA and USB connection.
We also tried to connect a Synology 4 bay disk station, but failed. Because it only could be attached with kinds of external hard disks.
How did you connect your OWC device, by eSATA cable or USB? I noticed that your HDD has much higher interface than ours (your device interface: eSATA 6.0GB/s, USB 3.0; our device interface: eSATA 3GB/s and USB 2.0). I’m not sure whether the issue is caused by this. We are still working on this issue. Will keep you update.
    Best,
    Lin

  • AFP stopped working on AEBS 2009-more...

    Hello,
i have an Early 2009 AEBS which is updated on 7.4.2.
I have wired connected a synology ds209+ which used for time machine and vault for itunes and iphoto. AFP enabled on both. Finder showed 2 disks, 1 TM and 1 (AFP).
All of a sudden started to have problems of disconnection on file transfers.
Eventually AFP disk dissapeared from finder, and TM disk when selected stalls finder.
A look on Airport utility shows that nothing is connected on ethernet ports.
But the DS209 works ok, it has IP and i can connect it through FTP, WebStation.
Lights on AEBS are normal, green on front, ON at ethernet port.
Also itunes finds the shared library but cannot transfer songs.
    I'm puzzled !!! any ideas ???
    Thanks

Hi,  in the old account, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

Hope someone has some experience linking up the Belkin Bridge with an Airport base station. I have an older iMac which could only use airport 1.1 and the wasn't going to work. • How to connect ZTE Open C with Firefox OS 1.3 to a calDAV server of Synology DSM 5.1?

    Hi,
I am running Firefox OS 1.3 on a ZTE Open C. I am trying to connect the calendar of the phone to a calDAV server of a NAS of Synology running DSM 5.1 (newest release).
I go into the calendar app of the phone and configure the calDAV account:
    username: testuser
    password: *******
    URL: https://192.168.1.251:5006/testcalendar
The calendar does not connect and the error message the phone shows is:
    wrong login and/or password
    Some background information:
    1. I am successfully connecting to this calendar from a Windows 8.1 PC (Firefox Lightning), an Apple iPAD (Apple Calendar), and a Linux notebook (Firefox Lightning). So the URL, the login and the calendar work ok.
    2. I am successfully connecting with the firefox browser of the phone using https to the mangagement interface (port 7001) of the NAS (the certificate is flagged as "untrusted" and a permanent exception has been made). So login with https works ok in principle.
    3. I get the same error message "wrong login and/or password" under DSM 5.0. So it is not a problem of the version of the Synology DSM calDAV server
    4. I get the same error "wrong login and/or password) with an unsecure connection using http and the respective URL: http://192.168.1.251:5005/testcalendar (beware of the changed port number using http). So it is not a problem of the ssl-connection.
I have connected the phone to the linux machine and generated the log by running:
    sudo adb logcat -v time > calendar.log
Here is are the results of the log (I have made 1 unsuccessful attempt to connect to the calDAV server on 11-16 14:26 and 2 unsuccessful attempts on 11-16 14:27. I am not sure for which message to look for so I just have the sections that contain most probably the bug (If required I can of course provide the full log or even re-test and re-log). my guess for the bug is:

    Hi Ralph,
thanks a lot for the quick response. This is very appreciated! I will try to equally give you all the information required as quickly as possible.
    1. CalDAV Log on Synology:
I have tested the connection between the calDAV client on ZTE Open C (Firefox OS 1.3) and the calDAV server on Synology (DSM 5.1) again and I get the same bug "wrong login and/or password". The logs on the Synology NAS show the following (Synology NAS: Control Panel-> File Services -> webDAV -> Advanced Settings -> View Logs -> Select: Connection)
User [testuser] from [192.168.1.6] failed to login in via [WebDAV] due to authorization failure
    2. Seperate Folder/Files for calendar on Synolgoy
I have setup the CalDAV files on Synology NASin a dedicated folder. The calendar ist in https://192.168.1.251:5006/dir_PersonalCalendars/testcalendar . Unfortunately the error on the ZTE Open C is the same as before: "wrong login and/or password" .
Interesting is, that if I mis-type the folder or the calendar name, then I get on the ZTE Open C the error: "Something is wrong. Try again later".
This suggests that the folder and files are well recognized when loggin in.
Hope that helps you to continue. If you need something more, than please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Schaefi

  • Can't connect to my Synology NAS server

    Hi
I just bought a Synology D212j. I am having hard time to connect to it trough afp or smb.
My issue is that when I go to connect to server (Command K) and browse the network, I can see the NAS. When I go to "connect as" it times out and says "connection failed".
I have tried to disable the firewall on synology but still the same problem.
    Any clue?...
    Thanks

I don't know how I missed that. I set it to sync all my email accounts and everything worked except the one I was trying to do originally. For some odd reason, after being online for 30 minutes or so it snapped to life and has been working ever since. Must be something about that particular account that is a bit off. Anyway, after it started working I went in and looked and the settings and they were the same ones I've been using all along. I couldn't check the password, but according to my notes I had set it correctly. Thanks for your help.
