Connect to TV/Get Screenshot of Program Playing?

I tried searching before posting (someone else must have this problem, yeah?) but after hours couldn't find a solution and am just running out of time trying to noodle this on my own... Any advice/assistance would be HUGELY appreciated!
I have a client that needs me to get hi-resolution screen captures from some of their clients' TV programs -- I have a Mac, shouldn't be a problem, right?
Unfortunately I don't have a new digital TV, or Apple TV, and am trying to use the firewire connection from my PowerBook G4 to my DVR/cable box (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000 model) to snag some still images. After installing FireWire SDK and re-booting all of the systems repeatedly, I can't get the computer to recognize the DVR as an external source of any kind.
Basically I can't seem to make the TV/my cable box to my laptop. I CAN use the standard A/V connector to make the laptop think that the TV is a secondary display, but that's sort of backwards to what I'm trying to do.
All I need is to find a way to get simple still screenshots from the TV. Is there anyway to make this happen, or am I just screwed?

HI cheshiredmad and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
If you haven't tried this... get a S-Video cable, ($15 at Radio Shack), and if your PBookG4 came with one like mine did... get your Apple DVI to Video Adapter, if you haven't got one go here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A?fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/cables&mco=MTUzNTY Connect the S-Video cable to the corresponding ports on the TV, not the cable box. Then connect the yellow connector on the other end to the DVI/Video Adapter, then connect the DVI to the PBookG4. It's the ort between your Audio and first USB port. See if you can screen capture at that point.

I'm a new iPad owner. When I've rented a movie, I can't work out how to play it back without a wifi connection. I get a message which says you cannot connect to the iTunes store without an Internet connection. This happens whether I've rented or purchased a film. We're going on a flight soon and would ideally like to watch one on the plane. Can someone please provide some step by step instructions. Thanks.

Rented or purchased video are watched through the videos app after you have downloaded them, iTunes on iOS devices is for buying media only.

  • Getting concert video to play on ipad mini

So a year or so ago I bought a concert cd off of itunes, included on the cd was a video of the entire concert.  Up until now I've only ever watched the concert on my computer (and it works perfectly fine on said computer) as I only had an ipod touch so I thought putting it on there was fairly pointless. Recently I got an ipad mini as a gift.  I thought I would put the video on there so I could travel with it and watch it anytime I liked. Here's were I've run into problems.
I got the file transfered onto the mini fine, although it shows up under 'music' and not videos, despite being a video file. I figured it must be because I bought it off a cd, and didn't think it would matter.  When I went to play the video though only the audio would play, even when I full screened it.  The 'video' comes up as just a screenshot of the concert that changes as the concert goes on but is never an actual video.  I can't figure out how to get the mini to recognize it as a video and not a music file.  If I wanted to just listen to the concert I would just play the cd I bought at the same time.
The file format for the video is .mp4, and I did purchase it directly from itunes.  Am I just missing something, how to I get it to actually play the video?

If the movie is in the Movies section of your iTunes library, select it to sync from the Movies tab in iTunes and then it will appear in the Videos app.
If you are using iTunes 11, enable the sidebar by going to View>Show Sidebar form the iTunes menu.
Connect the iPad to the MacBook and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left sidebar under devices.
Click on the Movies Tab on the right.
    Select/click on the Concert Video
Click on the Sync Movies Heading. Make sure there is a check mark in the box next to the heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • Creating a connection between the GUI and a program's back end

I have created a program (over 50 classes) and am currently a little confused as to how I should connect the back end of my program (the real functionality) to my front end (the GUI). Currently I am thinking about using a list of event listeners in my back end that will announce when certain events have completed and thus front end can handle the updates accordingly.
But I want to ensure that the back end doesn't "know" about the front end. In other words, I would like to ensure that the back end and the front end are as independent/modular as possible.
Can anyone make some suggestions besides event listeners?
    Thanks,
    Timmers

From what I am able to ascertain from your post, you would advocate using EventListeners in the back end (in same VM) to inform the GUI of changes?
Is this the commonly accepted way of communicating your back end functionality to your front-end (GUI)?
I've read that all EventListeners are part of a single thread. So what happens if two events occur simulataneously in the back-end. Do those events get queued or do some of them get lost?
    Thanks,
    Tim
If the back-end changes state asynchronously to the
front-end GUI (ie does work in background threads and
then notifies the front-end when something happens),
then you should make it send events when this happens.
The basic concept is the same for CORBA, RMI, JINI,
or running everything in the local VM.
To do this you define a set of events (or maybe you
    can use the java.beans.PropertyChangeEvent) and
listener interfaces. The front-end then registers to
receive events (probably via an addXXXListener()
method in the back-end). You would have to have a
class (or classes) in the front-end that implemented
the event listener interfaces to receive the events.
If you are using a distributed technology (CORBA, RMI,
JINI, ...) the concept is the same, but the event
    mechanisms are slightly different.
To notify the back-end of state changes in the
front-end you probably can just do plain old method
calls from the front-end to the back-end.

  • Do I need to get a separate program to burn multiples copies of a DVD on Mac?

Do I need to get a separate program to burn multiples copies of a DVD on Mac, and not have the copies separate into AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS?  I made a series of lesson plans on iMovie.  When it opens on the original disk, it goes right to my music and intro menu.  When I try to burn it to a new DVD, it shows up as AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.  It does not open at all.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Does the disk image that you created from the previously burned iDVD project look like this?
If so you don't copy any part of it to a blank DVD.  You open Disk Utility and select it like I do in this screenshot:
insert a blank DVD and click on the Burn button.

  • As a novice computer user, I wonder why I'm often getting "white-out" (program/app I'm working in goes totally blank onscreen). If it makes a difference, I'm working 99% of the time on battery, not AC, power. What causes this?

As a novice computer user, I wonder why I'm often getting "white-out" (program/app/site I'm working in goes totally blank onscreen). This is when I'm Internet online. If it makes a difference, I'm working 99% of the time on battery, not AC, power. Some of the possibilities I'm guessing are: glitches in my Verizon FiOS Wi-Fi providership?; staying too long on a site that's waiting for me to finish and "Submit"?; computer hardware prob (yikes, I hope not! It's brand new). Any ideas out there?

When this 'white-out' occurs, is the display 100% white with no error message and no menu bar?
Does this occur when you are using Wi Fi or connected to the Internet via the Ethernet cable?
    Ciao.

  • I can't get my music to play in my itunes. It comes with a exclamation mark next to the song numbers and says that the original songs can't be played cause cant find the file. How do I get the songs back? (I found the files)

I can't get my music to play in my itunes. It comes with a exclamation mark next to the song numbers and says that the original songs can't be played cause cant find the file. How do I get the songs back? (I found the files

You get exclamation marks or dead tracks because  iTunes can’t find the file. This can happen for a number of reasons:
The song file or a folder in its path was renamed
The song file or the folder it is in has been moved
The song file has been deleted
The device containing the song files e.g. external drive is not accessible or the drive letter has changed.
If you use an external drive, a change in drive letter is a common cause and you need to change it back.
AS a way of working out what has happened, right click on a track and select the summary tab (you will have to go past an error message). The summary tab will tell you where iTunes thinks the track is located. How does that compare with where the track actually is?
The xml library file is not used by iTunes, it is created to allow other programs to access the library. You can recreate the iTl file from the xml file, but there is no point if the location of the files is wrong.
There is a simple way of getting you music back in iTunes, but it loses all playlists counts and rating. To do this drag iTunes library.itl and iTunes Library.xml to your desktop. Then open iTunes and an empty library is created. Add you iTunes Media folder to it.
If you can't work out what went wrong and how to fix it, you may have to do this.

  • How do you get the sound to play on the tv from your macbook

I connected my macbook to my tv using a HDMI cord. I'm trying to watch netflix but the sound plays from my macbook. How do you get the music to play from the tv instead.

The adapter to HDMI doesn't carry sound from a MacBook earlier than the Mid 2010 models and most TVs don't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI inputs since they expect the sound to be carried by the HDMI plug. With HDMI you'll need to use external speakers or headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo sound system if your TV doesn't have separate RCA input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug.

  • How do you get your songs to play after you authorized the computer your on?

how do you get your songs to play after you authorized the computer your on itunes?

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If it's a Mac, try Senuti or Music Rescue.

hpw do i get my phone to play my music through my car when i plug it in?

When you plug it into the aux port?
Go to the Music app, select what you want and hit play. The stereo should be set to aux. If you have bluetooth in your car, you may need to press the icon on the phone to select the output. Audio out goes to the last connected device. If your bluetooth doesn't connect until after you plug into the aux port, it will try to stream via bluetooth if your system supports A2DP.
