Connect to unathenticated email server?

How do you connect an iphone 4s to an unathenticated email server?  iphone defaults require some form of authentication (password, etc), but my POP3 email host does not use authentication on their server.  Currently no work email on my new work phone...not good.  I don't want to go back to blackberry!  Webmail is not a long-term solution.  I need to use Outlook for records retention purposes.
Thanks!

bucko55,
I spoke with Apple yesterday.  They advised including your username and password for outgoing mail server.  In the settings both of those are optional.  When I added my user/pass my mail send/receive worked.
I hope this solves your issue too.

  • Does Thunderbird automatically maintain a constant connection with the email server?

    Hi all,
I have only recently installed Thunderbird and I was wondering whether the software maintains a constant connection with the email server(s)?
I have a few email accounts configured and I need to be notified immediately when a new email arrives in an inbox of any of them, so would it be possible for the program to maintain a constant connection, if doesn't do os already? Is there an add-on for this?
    Thanks!

If you click on the name of your email account (such as *****.gmai.com) and view settings for this account, and Server settings, there is an option to Check for new messages every XX minutes. I would not recommend a setting of less than 5 minutes.

  • Ios6.1 can't connect to the email server

I just updated from 5 to 6.1 tonight.  Since then, I can no longer get my yahoo email.  I get a message saying it can't connect to the server.  This happened once before to me, but all I had to do was turn the phone off and then on again, and it resolved itself.  I tried that this time, but it didn't work.  Does anyone have any ideas?  Not being able to connect to my email would be a big inconvenience.

Yahoo mail server can be down (it happens quite frequently).
Try, delete the account and set it up again.

  • Unable to connect to any email server - old MBP, 10.7.5

I am dusting off my old MB Pro to use as an email SPAM filtering drone using Spamseive. However, I cannot get the Mail program to connect to any mail servers, iCloud, other IMAP or POP. I get the same problem for all of them, saying “The IMAP (or POP) server rejected the password for user.”  I have restarted the computer, deleted the mail plist from preferences so all old accounts/settings are gone, reentered all the data for each account, double checked passwords on other devices, etc. NADA. Cannot figure out why it does not work. Is it something to do with the older system software and Mail program? I am using the same network as my other devices.
    Any help appreciated!

I should of mentioned in the original post that I have used a data doubler and lost the SuperDrive in favor of adding a SDD for the OS and a 1TB for the home folder.
Do I need to back up the data in this situation or can I simply reference the home folders location in system / preferances /Users?

  • After downloading an upgrade to thunderbird I can't connect to my email server

message reads: could not connect to mail server [email protected] the connection was refused

If you have the urge to say suddenly my mail stopped downloading / working. It is more than likely not an issue with your mail client. Sometimes it is the mail provider changing connection settings so these need to be confirmed. Other times if it is following an update to Thunderbird, then it is more than likely the firewall component in your internet security suite / anti virus.
I suggest you look at the anti virus/firewall aspect.

  • Email server problem - failed to connect to server

Since Friday 27th August I've been having trouble connecting to the email server for my BT Yahoo account. It simply can't find the server, even though none of the account settings have changed and it has worked fine for years. Weirdly, sometimes it works and emails come through (so the settings are obviously fine) but then it will stop working for no apparent reason. I use Thunderbird as my email client, but I tested the account in Outlook Express and it gives the same error. The account works fine over webmail, and through my iPhone, however.
It seems like this is a DNS error rather than software related - is there anything BT-related that could be causing this, or any simple fixes? I've tried rebooting the HomeHub but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. I work from home, so this is a really annoying problem.

Interesting - we have exactly the same problem. Haven't been able to download for days. This has happened with two different computers with different anti-virus systems - so one assumes it's not suddenly that. I can access my e-mail online and reply (having to bcc myself, so when it does eventually work I have copies on my outlook express. It was working perfectly one night and the next morning just stopped - nothing happened in between.
I have tried to find out what the error number means, but no-one - not even BT's Help section - seem to have the solution. Have you ever seen the Eddie Izzard sketch on YouTube? This is definately one of those moments!
If you find a solution - would really appreciate you posting it on here, so I can fix mine. Will do the same for youi.
    Hi.
This sort of problem is hard to determine. It could be a few things, including a corruption of the mail account (which can last for a short time or a number of days), it could be a local problem - which you've ruled out by the different computer check, or perhaps a "stuck" email - say one which is spam/virus attached and the online checking systems failing to pass through it, or possibly a stale IP address.
The latter 2 are easy to check, the first via webmail and see if there is anything near the "top" of the list that may cause a problem, moving to a new folder, and try again. The last can be tried by power cycling the router to get a new IP address. Disconnect the broadband and router for say 15 minutes and then reconnect to try again.
If there was a major server problem, there would be lots more complaints.

  • Certificate of email server is invalid

I have a Verify Certificate pop up on my iMac computer. I cannot close this pop up window. I am unable to quit email. I clicked on an email link yesterday and now I can't close the email form that is trying to connect to my email server. My desktop is becoming cluttered with windows I can't close and email I can't quit. What do I do.  This became an issue after a recent update. Suggestions?

    Hey Icaywood,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you computer is becoming unresponsive due to this pop up window. Let’s try force quitting all applications and restarting your computer:

  • Applet --- Email server ?

    Hi,
On click of a button in an Applet, I need to get connected to some email server and post some message. example ([email protected]).
I have used URL and AppletContext.showDocument(url) to get connected to the server but it is not working. Any new ideas please?
    Thank you,
    [email protected]

First: to send email directly from an applet you need a smtp server running on the server where the applet was loaded. (Either that or then you need to sign the applet.)
When you've got that sorted out, you need to get a java smtp client from somewhere - writing one would be another possibility. There was an almost complete example at javaworld in a socket tutorial, search there (keywords: smtp +socket)
BTW: have you tried constructing a URL like "mailto:[email protected]" and appletcontext.showDocument()ing that?
That might work in some browsers, but a socket connection will work everywhere.

  • Install Oracle Email Server

    Hi
I am trying to install Oracle Email Server in a e-Business Suite(LInux) environment.
    My system:
E-Business Suite 11.5.0 is installed in Linux
Oracle Email Server 5.2.0 is installed in Windows 2000 Server
And on my network I have a Exchange Server
My first problem is that I can’t find any Windows sendmail to connect my Oracle email Server. I have found a sendmail “copy”( http://www.indigostar.com/sendmail.htm) but only use command line to send/receive emails.
And Second, how to connect my Oracle Email Server to my Exchange network? Only a smtp/pop connector between the two will do?
If anyone can help it would be great.
    Tanks
    JailBreak

    Hi JailBreak!
I know that the 8.1.7 version of the database on Linux was not perfect.
The approach you took is somewhat valid but be aware that there are some issues (at least I hit them in my last project with HP-UX) where the combination of Oracle 9i with the ES 5.2.2 is tricky (need the patch libraries in the 9i tree and so on.
So my advise would be the following:
    - Install an 8.1.7 software tree - build no db yet (you already did this)
    - Install the ES 5.2 - do not run the imconfig yet
    - Install the ES 5.2 Patchset 2
    - Build a database
    - Run the imconfig
    - Configure sendmail
This will work! I did this so often I can guarantee you that this will work.
However be careful - the configuration of the EMail Center is very dificult and the documentation is somewhat vague about which values to fill in.
Try to have an english setup of the EMC as it makes life easier to compare the screens with the manuals.

  • TS3276 I cannot connect to my outgoing email server on my macBook pro, yet I can, for the same email account on my iPad. Also I can send emails from the other email account I have on my MacBook...really confused can anyone help?

I cannot connect to my outgoing email server on my macBook pro, yet I can, for the same email account on my iPad. Also I can send emails from the other email account I have on my MacBook...really confused can anyone help?

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

  • My email account in Mail.app is IMAP, but when I delete emails, they don't delete from other devices connected to the mail server with IMAP. Deleted mail on other devices delete as normal from the server and thus from other devices as normal.

MacBook Pro, late 2011 version. Up to date Mountain Lion.
My email account in the Mail.app is set up as IMAP, but when I delete emails in the Mac Mail App, they are not deleted from the mail clients of the other devices that are connected to the mail server with IMAP. IMAP works perfectly between Windows Outlook 2010, iPad Mail App and Android default mail client. Deleted messages behave correctly, as in delete from one device and the mail is deleted from all devices.
Having just tested in reverse order on the Mac; emails deleted from the email client on Windows, iPad and Android are not deleted in the Mac Mail App.  It appears that the account is behaving like POP rather than IMAP.
Any advice on how to have IMAP work correctly on the MacBook Pro Mail.app?
    Thank you.

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this!  I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did.  Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double  check!  All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
Thank you anyway for attempting to help me!
    Cheers

  • Frequent loss of connection to email server

Every few days, although not following any obvious useage pattern, one of my email accounts stops being able to connect to the mail server. To fix this, I have to delete the account, and then recreate it. I've tried every other suggestion or fix described in these pages and elsewhere - nothing but a delete and recreate works, and it's only temporary.
This is a fairly simple fix - however it is intensely irritating that I have to keep doing it. When the error occurs, I can still access the account via webmail, and can still receive and send from my PC to that account. So it's not the Mail Server being offline etc, just can't connect from my iPhone 5.
My other email accounts on the iPhone continue to function normally, so the Mail app is working.
A search of this community shows many different versions of this issue, which has persisted across iOS6 and 7 upgrades on the handset.
In short, I know how to resolve the problem - I really want to know why it occurs, and why I keep having to resolve it every week or so. I want to fix the problem once and for all.
If it helps, it's always the same mail account, which is an IMAP one (as are my other ones).
Any suggestions gratefully received! How do I raise a bug report with Apple, for example?
    Thanks all...

A quick Google search does not yield anything. I have to assume in general Apple uses industry standard protocols (and they use the sticklers for using the actual protocol). Everytime I have had problems with wifi and Apple equipment (including the iPad) the solution was that the wifi router (or the servers handling the traffic) were found to need replacement (or re-programming). And this was not due to Apple. My latest issue was the hotel in Singapore. Both my PC laptop and iPad could not find the wifi signal even though the router was in the room. At first we went around rebooting and unplugging everything. Once past that silly step they agreed my equipment was fine but their server pay-wall was an issue (the hotel manager's iphone could not see the wifi either).
So probably an issue with the Cruise ship wifi routers, or their pay-wall servers to follow your computer (to be sure you have paid for your service).
Often the users equipment is blamed and Apple products in particular. But I suspect the majority of the time it is the wifi equipment.

  • EMail server connect issues

I use Mozilla Thunderbird to connect to my email account.
For all of today it has been very intermittant (and less so over past few days)
You click on get mail or send mail ... and you see it's trying to connect ........... after several minutes it fails with try again or set new password.
Nothing wrong with settings (or passwiord) as eventually keep pressing 'try again' and eventually mail is sent.
BT India initially said BT no longer support eamil on any clients such as Thunderbird or Outlook Express only Webmail ....   then eventually was passed to email support team, who advised there is a major server issue .. country wide been that way for several days.
Hope this gets fixed as do not want to rely on BT webmail, use that for mobile use only.
Anybody any information on email strategy for BT ?
Alhough now on domestic BB  ... my email address is [email protected]   and used this for more than 10 years.

There has been an outage today with regard to btconnect addresses, which are business addresses, rather than residential addresses.  To the best of my knowledge the outage has been resolved.  If you call 0800 169 0199, the service status line, it should no longer refer to it.
If you are using a business email address, the correct contact number is 0800 800 154 and support for mail clients can, and will, be given.

  • Connect iPhone to Maverick Email Server

    Hello,
I have set up a fresh Maverick Email Server following these instructions: https://www.yesdevnull.net/2013/10/os-x-mavericks-server-setting-up-mail/
I do not installed a bought SSL certificate and so I am just using the standard "built-in self one".
The article from www.yesdevnull.net I mentioned above propose to deactivate POP and to use an Opendirectory authentification (so no cleartext nor POP authentification possibilities)
I can use, without any problem, my Maverick Mail Server via Mail app on my local network and can send, and receive emails via Webmail (cloud, gmail etc)
Unfortunately I can not set up my email account on my iPhone!!!
It says that the email server does not answer. (I have tested it and successfully received emails from a Gmail account so it runs)
When I set up the email account on the iPhone it asks me if I want to use SSL. In both cases (yes or no) it does not work.
    What could I check?
Is it compulsory to buy and install an SSL certificate to use it on my iPhone?
    Thanks for your help.

This may work - I havent tested...
Step 1. click on wireless icon on taskbar, Select Create Network and then give it a name.
tick the Require Password if you want this to be secure.
Click “OK” and it will create the network.
Step 2. On iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi Networks, you should see the new network. Tap on the name the phone should connect.
You should now be able to navigate to the local website address (like option 2 below).
If you need to share the internet connection with the phone:
In System Preferences, go to Sharing – Internet Sharing – Share connection from Ethernet – To computers using Airport – Click Airport Options and set up that the same as above.
For testing the site / web server
Option 1) Set up a developer account and download xcode - this has a mobile safari simulator, you can then drag/drop the local web files into this to test them.
Option 2) With MAPM or Apache running as a web server on the Mac you can set up a virtual server and access this on the iphone via the local wifi network (i.e. http://192.168.1.164/mysite).
