Connect to wife's computer in wi-fi environment
Last spring I moved into over an over 55-community that supplies wireless Internet access. My iMac is in one room and my wife's is in another. I set up the printer in my room and used Wi-Fi to connect to it.
Yesterday the printer stopped working and I checked with the company that supplies the Wi-Fi (GuestNetworks.com), and was told that we never should have been able to connect to other devices within the community. And sure enough, our two computers can no longer see each other.
They offered two "solutions". One is to buy a device from them for over $100 (I didn't write down what it did - being upset at the time), and the other is to purchase our Wi-Fi from Comcast (who supplies our cable TV). I also have an Airport Express.
I did connect my printer via USB to my printer, but if my wife wants something printed, she will have to save it to a file and e-mail it to me or put it in iCloud. She prints web pages often.
I'd really appreciate any input on how to improve this situation.
It doesn't appear to be an option. But I want to ask - if I connect our computers that way, would my file sharing work again?
The device they want me to get is a pre-configured client bridge. I figure "pre-configured" means, they alreay have its IP address on file, so it doesn't need to log on to my residence's web page every couple of weeks. To connect my Wi to the Wi-Fi, I had to spend a half hour on the phone with them to do that.

My ipod nano library is on a computer we no longer have connect to internet. When I plug my ipod into wife's computer all I see his her itunes library. I want to use my wifes computer to get to my library. How can I do this? thanks

I have a Iphone and I want to downloa a game but it's over 50MB so it says you must connect to wifi or download from a computer so I downloaded it from the computer and the computer says the downloads done but the app bar is empty and says "waiting.."

Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.
To save the photographs you may have to use third party software. Google is your friend. -
Just bought new iPod touch. When I connect to computer to sync it tells me "iTunes could not connect to this iPod touch. Could not send a message to device." Not sure if it is b/c of an older version of iTunes but connecting via wifi sync unacceptable
What version of iTunes is on the computer? You need at least 11.4.

It sounds like you are able to successfully connect to your Wifi network, but cannot get internet access.

It is a built in troubleshooting tool to help diagnose and repair network issues and should help you resolve this issue.

My wife just got a new iPhone 6 and took some great photos then I connected it to her computer and restored it to her iPhone 4 settings and lost her new photos. Is there a way to recover them?
Sorry, unless she backup up the new phone before or is using iCloud to save the photos, the photos are gone.

It seems to me that routers are designed to connect directly to the internet by programming their firmware with connection info.
I'd like to connect a computer to the internet, then connect a router to that computer.
Essentially, I want a internet signal that comes through a computer before being made wireless. Is that possible?To connect the computer to the Internet you still need some physical component, for example a wireless USB dongle. So if you want to have the Mac connecting to the Internet and then share this connection to other devices using wireless, then you can enable Internet Sharing on the Mac and select to share its Airport (wireless) connection to the other devices (which turns the Mac into a form of access point). Then the other wireless devices can connect to the Mac and use the Mac's Internet connection, which could be a wireless USB dongle or an Ethernet connection to a cable modem.

If you are using a Windows based computer, try disabling anti virus software and turn off the Firewall.

Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone. -
my ipad is saying it hasn't been backed up in 3weeks. Back ups happen whan this ipad is plugeed in, locked and connected to WIFI. I've plugged it in to sync in my main computer and I can't get the icloud back up icon to go out.I can't even turn pad off

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it. -
I have tried to reset my wifi and use different wifi systems. I am in college, so I have tried to use the internet both on campus and in my home in Dallas, neither of which worked. I JUST WANT TO HAVE INTERNET.
My computer says I am connected to wifi, but when I go to use the Internet, I am not connected.
Usually when this occurs on one Wifi and Internet connection, the wifi router is working, but the router connection to the Internet Service Provider is broken. Resetting the modem or router/modem combination often results in a new connection to the ISP being established (baring any data caps limits, line, modem or ISP troubles)
However your mentioning it's not connecting anywhere your going on wifi or Internet, which could mean your machine has been compromised and possibly blacklisted until it's cleaned up of malware, or you tried to self solve your earlier issues and messed up your Network settings.
I tend to lesser think it's a actual hardware problem, but it might come to that eventually.
You should test the compromised/blacklist theroy by using a Ethernet cable to the modem you know has a good Internet on and powering on/off the modem. (if a router/modem combination, then no need). If you get Internet and not kicked off in a few minutes, then your machine is fine, likely messed up Network settings are too blame.
You can clear everything out by creating a New Location by editing locations and creating a new one, also by going to Airport Advanced > Airport and deleting all the previous connections to start over new. Reboot.
Connect manually to your home network and save in Keychain when it asks.
If this is all too much for you, take it to a local PC/Mac repair shop as they specialize in software/network issues. -
Finding my password connecting to my wife's computer
When I connect to my wife's computer from mine, sometimes I get a window wanting me to enter my password. I've tried entering my best guess, but that doesn't work, so I reboot, and apparently connect fine. When I guess, I don't tell it to save the password in keychain. Both of our computers use Mavericks. Sometimes I get a message saying I can't connect when her computer is sleeping. But sometimes I can't connect when she's using her computer.
How do I find my password - is it in her keychain?If you and your wife trust each other, the easiest way to do this is for you to use her username and password to connect to her computer, and for her to use your username and password to connect to yours.

See if going to System Preferences > Energy Saver and checking the box, 'Wake for network access' (on your wife's computer, and in the name of trust, yours, too) helps. -
My iPad isn't getting connection to internet. It just suddenly stopped! It says it is connected to WiFi but it just keeps spinning and nothing will come up. Have tried rebooting my router and iPad (my other computer is connected just fine).
Try turning WiFi off on the iPad, then reset it again, turn WiFi on again and join your network again if necessary. Or go to Settings>WiFi>Your network name>Forget this network. Reset your iPad and then join your network again. Or - settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings. Reset the iPad, then try to join your network again.

I recently updated three Macs to Mavericks OS 10.9.4. All three Macs now cannot stay connected to WiFi.
Other devices (iOS and Windows) have no such problem, so it isn't the WiFi itself.
It seems to be OS X 10.9.4 which is the problem.
