Connect to wifi before logging in?

My dad bought a new laptop a few months ago. He passed away a few days ago, and left the laptop to me. I tried to log into it, but it said his password had been changed. He was going to tell me but he got too sick before he could. I have access to his
email and microsoft account, I changed the password to something else. But it still won't let me log on to the computer because it has to be connected to wifi in order for the change to take place. How can I connect to wifi before the log in screen so I can
access the computer?

Sorry for your loss. :(
When you go to put the credentials for the account, on the bottom left hand corner there should be something that looks like a computer with a cable
and/or bars for wireless . If you click on that, it will open a network settings window on the right of the screen. In that window is where you can select your wifi and connect to it.

  • IPad 2 cannot connect to Wifi before and after updating  PLEASE HELP

i have been using iOS 5.1.1 till today.. the connection to wifi stopped working.. it slowly faded away and today i woke up and could not connect to My wifi at all, i have decided to update my iPad to iOS 7.0.4 but the problem is there
    what should i doo ??

It could be a problem with your WiFi router or your iPad.
If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • I have this all new ipad4 and recently it is having issues connecting to wifi and logging into mails

I'm experiencing troubles with my ipad connecting to wifi. It would detect even right passwords as wrong where in it would connect to open networks without any troubles. This thing is also happening with my mail login. I can't login into my other mail accounts other than icloud as it would detect password entered as wrong. I'm so sure that I typed the password right and there are issues with the keyboard either. I've always checked caps lock and language I'm using are appropriate and there are absolutely no flaws when I'm typing passwords. Please someone help me rectify this and also share it here if you're experiencing the same problem.
P.S. I've gone so far that even resetting didn't work.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Connect to wireless before logging in

where I work, we have 16 Macbooks running 10.5.4 that students use, and we are having issues getting them to connect to the wireless easily. It's a windows network, and we are able to get the macs to connect to AD if wired; however, we want to have them connect to a WPA2 connection that we have set up for them. Is there a way to be able to have it connect to the wireless before a student logs in? Would this be just using a system profile?

were you able to resolve this issue? i am having a similar issue. it appears that the wireless connection is dropped on logoff. however, there is a setting "Disconnect from wireless networks when logging out" and i do NOT have this checked. so you would assume that the macbook would remain connected on logout.
this keeps me from being able to log into the active directory domain using the wireless network. like you i have no problem logging in to a wired connection.

  • I rented a movie, I'm connected to the computer, but I'm still getting an error on my iphone that says I need to connect to wifi or log into store.

I went to check for purchases, its there (twice) and I tried to sync the ipod.  It syncs, but the movie still doesn't download to my iphone.

Thx, I finally figure out what I had to do to get it to download, just don't like that it is taking so long to download on the iphone from computer. But thx again for that advice, so far it is working.

  • IMac does not connect to wifi on boot

I own an iMac and run it with OS X 10.7.5.  Ever since system update 10.7.3 (February 2012) my mac more often than not does not connect to wifi on boot.  I have to select diagnostics and connect manually.  I did a design of experiment and have now discovered that I do not have this problem if I wait about a minute to log in after the login prompt displays.  I like my mac for it's fast startup.  It is a shame to have to wait unecessarily for it to connect to wifi before logging in.  I kenw this was a problem with the system update and this confirms it.  Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening so I don't have to wait?

It has been a month now and waiting a minute always works for connecting to my airport extreme on boot.  I was cleaning behind my desk and realized that the ethernet cable was still attached to the back of the iMac even though I had moved the airport upstairs.  I disconnected it.  I also opened network preferences.  The wifi was moved a long time ago to the top for priority, but the inactive ethernet and firewire were still listed.  I removed both the ethernet and firewire so the only connection listed is wifi.  My computer has now found the internet on 4 consecutive boots without waiting.  It appears that having the other two options disrupts the connection process on boot.  I will continue checking over the next week and let you know how it goes.  Wish me luck!

  • Why wont ios 6 connect to wifi

i recently updated to ios 6 and now i cant connect to wifi? WHY??? when it connected to wifi before i updated it..

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
Do other devices still connect to your network?
What happens when you try to connect? Error message?
    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>GeneralReset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Updated my 4s to new IOS 5.1.1 software and ever since i have not been able to connect to wifi

I updated my iphone 4s to the latest IOS software, which is 5.1.1. Immediately after doing so i could no longer connect to me wifi!
I searched this issue online and found that many other people experienced the same problem due to the new software. I have no idea how to fix this problem. I am also worried that this problem will not be fixed until Apply releases a new software! Does anyone know when this will be? Also, if i take this issue directly to apple what is the likelihood that i will get a new phone without this issue?

Some wifi routers seem to really have a problem with iOS 5.1.1 (and some with Apple stuff in general).
Try a soft reset (holding the home button and standby button simultaneously until the power off slider appears, then keep holding until the apple appears. Let go and let it reboot)
If you are connecting but aren't getting any actual data or a ridiculously slow trickle of data, try switching your DNS to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4
If it was connecting to wifi before you updated your iOS but now isn't, it is most likely not a hardware failure.

  • Suddenly today both my iphone and ipad will not connect to wifi.. I have never had any problems before.  Please help.  Should I reset all my settings?  Should I reset network settings?  What should I do?

my iphone and ipad will suddenly not connect to wifi....
    Never had any problems before?
Should are reset all my settings?
Should I reset all network settings?
    Please help!

With any wi-fi network or with your wi-fi network?
If your wi-fi network, try resetting the wireless router and modem. Disconnect the wireless router from the power source followed by disconnecting the modem from the power source. Wait a few minutes followed by re-connecting the modem to the power source and allow the modem to completely reset before re-connecting the wireless router to the power source and allow it to reset with the modem before trying again.

  • IPhone 3G won't connect to wifi, it's been connected before but now it won't work, the iTouch connects with no problem, it's just the phone. I've tried resetting it, updating it, and everything and still no luck.

I have a iPhone 3G that is running 3.1 and about 2 days ago, it was fine, connecting to wifi and everything. But now, it won't even find any networks? I've tried going to public places (I.E. McDonald's) and other places that have free wifi, and it can't detect the wifi, Why won't my phone find my home wifi now? I've tried resetting the network settings, I've reset the entire phone, i've done about everything all the other posts talked about. Anyone else got an idea?

I have, yes. I've been shutting it down by holding the sleep/wake key and the home button, aswell. Then I go in and reset network settings and I just get back to it not finding any wifi around. It has the little searching sign, but it just keeps going with nothing showing up.

  • Since upgrading my phone to 6.0.1, I'm using way too much data. I believe it's the podcast app that's not loading shows while I'm connected to wifi. I have the 3g turned off for podcasts??? also after a phone call or an alert it starts playing a podcast?

I've also had the same issues, after upgrading to IOS 6.0, the apps in my iPhone 4 were crashing and the battery life run out very fast.
The only solution worked for me was to remove all mail accounts (Exchange/Gmail) from my iPhone (in settings) and then add them back.
The crashing were stopped! also the battery was back to normal.
I found the solution by first looking at the crash logs (in IOS 6). you can find them at Settings -> General -> About (at the bottom of the About menu you will find the option that opens the logs).
There i saw many logs about Low Memory crash. 99% of the logs were pointed that the largest process (use the most memory) during the crashes is "dataaccessd".
I search in the web and found that this process is a deamon process that reponsible the Mail accounts (like Exchange/Gmail) and contancts list.
I've installed the app "System Status - activity monitor" which shows important system info like CPU usage, Memory usage and running processes.
Before apply my solution (deleting the mail accounts) i saw that the CPU usage was very high which consume the battery very fast. Also i saw that the memory (RAM) was run out.. which probably what cause the crashing..
After deleting the mail accounts (at Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars) i check again with the System Status app, and saw that the memory and CPU were back to normal.
Adding the mail accounts back, still everything work ok
Hope this solution will help you too,
    Enjoy!

  • Data usage while I'm asleep and connected to WIFI

I just got a new Iphone 5S and also noticed my usage has gone up considerably.
I was just checking my data log for my new cycle which is only two days old and have seen significant MB of data usage in the early morning hours while I'm asleep and I'm on WIFI in my house.  The phone is next to me on the night stand.
How could this be?  I've read that sometime people leave apps running in the background that might account for that but I'm on WIFI in my house so it shouldn't be using any data at all.  I've also noticed smaller amounts of data usage registering during times of the day when I'm in my house on WIFI.

The answer from the Verizon person seems wrong. I've had various iPhones with data through them for 3 years... I just got a new phone a few weeks ago and my data usage has gone up. I have had "cellular data" turned on.... but I ALWAYS have with my other phones as well and didn't experience this issue. I have data logging in the wee hours of the morning while I'm asleep at home and it should be connecting to wifi. This seems very backward to have to switch cellular data on and off when you come and go from wireless networks. It has never been like this in the past 3 years i've been with Verizon and a smartphone. I'm really annoyed I've paid overages for a couple months now seemingly due to this weird issue that has never affected me before. @joel_vzw please provide further explanation.

  • Cannot connect to wifi at all!!

I upgraded from leopard to mountain lion for while.it connects to wifi but not the internet. I see the full bars but when i open safari it wont load any page. I used the "assist me" diagnose, wasn't any help (the light next to internet and server item is yellow)
I did anything i could with the router and everything. I even tried it on other wifi networks, the problem was the same, didn't work.
My device is a macbook pro 15. Core i5
Please help. This is been bugging me for months now...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Post the contents of that window, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. It won't be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.
