Connect to Win (wired) network from MacBook connecting via AirPort Express

Hi,
I have a MacBook (OS 10.4.10) that I was connecting to my Windows network via a Linksys WRK54G Wireless router (configured as a WAP), which in turn was connected to a Netgear FVS318 VPN Firewall Router. The FVS318 connects to my cable modem and 2 Windows XP Pro PCs. The Linksys WRK54G has been flaking out, so I replaced it with an Airport Express. My MacBook and a Windows XP Pro laptop are both able to connect to the internet via the airport express, and they are both able to ping the IP addresses of my (wired network connected) Win XP Pro PCs. However, the PCs no longer show up under "Network" on the MacBook, nor can I connect to the shared directories on the (wired) Windows PCs from the Win XP Pro laptop (via Start Menu => Run => enter IP address). I have not found any answers so far either using Google or Apple Support website. Surely this is possible -- what am I missing? Thanks.

Hello sborisch. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If I understand your network configuration, you just need to configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge...
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a bridge, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (located in the \Applications\Utilities folder), make these settings:
Network tab
o Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
o Apply the new setting.

  • Stream from my iMac via airport express to my Harmann Kardon AVR360

I want to stream music from my iMac via airport express to my Harmann Kardon AVR360, but without success. I'm using a mini jack -> optical adapter. Any recommendations on how to make this work?

The issue may be the adapter or cable that you are using. Since both your AirPort Express and Harman Kardon support digital audio optical connections, the simplest connection between them would be to use a cable with a 3.5 mm minijack to TOSlink optical connector on one side and a TOSlink optical connector on the other side.
I also have had scenarios where I had the right cable/connector but either the cable or connector was faulty.

  • Can I play tracks from my iPod via Airport Express on only from my laptop?

I can play tracks from my laptop thorugh my Bose Lifestyle  Airport Express.  Is there a way to play tracks from my iPod Touch through my Bose system via Airport Express?   My Airport Express is set up as a client to my Sky Broadband wireless router.

I set up my laptop to my Bose Lifestyle System via Airport Express. It may be different for MAC but I just downloaded the Airport Express software and followed the on-screen set-up procedure, which includes entering your WI-FI key.  I do not have an iPad.  You need to select Airport Express in iTunes as your sound media. This is easily switched by an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.  You will need to switch this back if you want to revert to using the laptop speakers.

  • Connecting to win xp pro from macbook

i have talked to apple care via phone and the geniuses at the local apple store and am hoping someone on the boards can help. i have a new macbook and a winxp pro machine. i can connect to the mac folders in my network places on the windows xp machine and place xp files into those folders (without having to type in a password even though the mac was password protected). But i can not connect to the win xp machine from the mac.
i can reach the authentication screen where i enter my username and password but am greeted with the error "could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct." i am able to connect to a university server that uses windows server (2003 i think). i am 100% sure the username and password are correct. in fact have created a few more users for the xp machine to no avail. i have also changed the mac domain from Workgroup to WORKGROUP just to be certain.
i am pretty the mac is fine. I have gone and changed my registry values on the win xp machine to match what was needed for the xp machine regarding windows server logon.
this issue remains the same if i plug both into a router, connect both via router, or ... i have tried using smb://ipaddress, smb://ipaddress/sharedfolder, smb://computername, and smb://computername/sharedfolder. i can only use apple+K or finder>go>connect to server as if i browse through networks i can not see any servers. i have tried to reinstall 10.4.7 combo updater. though i was not able to connect with just 10.4.7 either. i am able to view my shared music that is located on the winxp machine via frontrow. i am not able to use my windows printer either as i am not able to get past the username and password screen.
i was wondering if anyone has any ideas. the only error i get in the console is "mount_smbfs: session setup phase failed: syserr = Permission denied". thank you all for the help

    Jon,
I have been in the same circle for weeks (trying to get a MacBook Pro sharing files with WinXP Pro via a wireless network-the Mac files show up on the WIN machine, but I continuly get error messages on the Mac when trying to connect to the Win -well try this... I just remembered that I have a secondary virus protection program on the Win PC (Mcafee in my case). All of the documentation talks about Windows security - not about other "security blocking programs". There are no flashing lights or clear messages about what is happening. I bet if you check for 'blocked' attempts to connect to your PC you will find your MAC ipaddress listed. My shared network/files just showed up on my MAC desktop and it looks beautiful. Happy computing --pass it on...

  • Connecting to a pc from my mac via airport express wireless network

I have successfully been able to access my mac from my Windows XP machine via my AE wireless network that I set up with my Mac. However, I am unable to do the reverse. I.e. connect to my PC from my Mac.
There seem to be two issues I need to figure out to make this work:
    1. Firstly, the option to allow sharing for any of my Windows folders has been restricted because apparently I need to create a network first but I have a network and both the PC and Mac can access the internet, share a printer and see each other via this network so I don't understand what's wrong. Do I have to create a network from the pc side of things as well in order for this to work?
    2. When I attempt to connect to the pc from my mac I do the following from Finder: GO >> "Connect to Server" then I type in smb://<ip address of the pc>. When the dialogue comes up asking for "Workgroup/Domain", "Name" and "Password" comes up I know I have the correct workgroup and I know the pc is there because it's full name is displayed but I'm not sure what to enter as "Name" and "Password". I assumed it was the username and password for the windows user on the pc whose files/folders I want to access but then I'm told the connection can't be made because the name or password isn't correct. I tried every user name and password I could think of in these fields--even the accounts for my mac--but they all give me the same response.
I'd appreciate it if someone could someone lend a hand.
    Joey

Sorry, I don't know which articles you have already reviewed.
Sharing folders on the PC should be nothing more than enabling "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" option under Network options & then identifying which folders you want to share.

  • MacBook can't find network printers or servers via Airport Express

My MacBook won't see my Laserjet 6MP (connected thru JetDirect) using either Appletalk (active on Airport but not on Ethernet) or IP Printing (via LDP). I just updated to 10.4.6 and it still doesn't work. I'm using an Airport Express which is connected to an office ethernet network via Belkin Router.
I do get a good internet connection but interestingly enough, when I try to see the other computers on the network, they don't show up in the "Network" window. However, if I type in their IP addresses in the "connect to server" window, they show up just fine. I get the same results on an iBook G3 (which connects to everything properly when I use a hardwire Ethernet instead of Airport).
Any idea what might be going on?

SUCCESS! I just got off the phone with one of the head printer engineers at Hewlett Packard. The basic problem was that BOTH the Belkin router and the Airport Express were supplying IP addresses via DHCP and they were fighting with each other. Using Airport Admin Utitlity, I turned off "Distribute IP Adresses" in the Network Tab. Basically, this turns the Airport Express into a repeater for the Ethernet router.
Now the MacBook is getting it's IP address from the Ethernet router, as is the printer, and everything is fine. All computerS, wired and wireless, can see each other in the network browser and print to all the printers.

    Hi thanks for your answer.
I am afraid it still does not work.
Now, when I select the Airport, it tries connecting for a long time "connecting to "Airport Name"...but never connects.

You will need to install an App like Print Central on the iPad to try to print to the printer. It will allow you to print to most printers. Check with their support folks if you need more info.

There is no way to find out your IP address from a remote location. Its possible that your home hub has locked up, or your broadband line has failed.
Unless you can get someone to check at home, there is nothing you can do.
The home hub does not normally respond to a ping request anyway.

  • I cannot print from my iPad using airport express. My printer is not AirPrint compatible but is connected to airport express thru USB port. My laptop can print with no problem thru the express unit. My lap top is no a mac.

Good day, my iPad does not seem to pick up my printer. My printer is not AirPrint compatible but is connected to my airport express thru the USB port. My laptop which is windows type connects to the printer via airport express thru bonjour and this work well. My iPad does not pick up my printer thru the airport express. I have read about different software that you can download but this seems to be only if you are using a mac. I know my express is working fine as I can use airplay thru my iPad. Any ideas? I do not want to go to the expense of changing my printer, when there was no mention in the express details that your printer had to be AirPrint compatible or indeed wireless.

See this article to learn how to print from an iPad to your USB printer when you have a PC.  The PC will need to be running when you want to print from the iPad.

  • Create the internet network from MacBook Pro (Aircard) to iPhone and iPad

I would like to create the internet network from MacBook Pro (that used Aircard) to iPhone and iPad. I already turned on the internet sharing, but could not create the internet network. Please let me know how to solve this problem.

Couldn't you attach your iPhone to your computer and upload and add your iPhone Contacts to your iTunes Contacts and then sync the iPhone? Add one unique contact and calendar entry to your computer. You should then get the option to merge.
