Connect USB stick to ipad

How do I connect my USB stick to my iPad?

You need to make a folder called DCIM on the top level of the flash drive. All video files have to have a name of exactly 8 characters, for example SAN_1234 and have to be in that folder
as to brands, I haven't found any that work absolutely. I have lexars that do and lexars that don't. Brands to avoid seem to be Kingston and Sandisk (largely because I think their bundled software tries to run and flummoxes the iPad)
off brands seem to work because you also want to avoid drives with big flashy LED lights.
I have a 4 gig geek squad one that works
Honestly? I put my video files on a SD card and then import it that way. Those have a much better track record of working (I've gotten up to a 32 gig card to read)
One issue, names don't show up when you import. So if i have 23 video files, I have 23 nameless icons to import (I think lengths do show so that may be a way to keep them separate as to what's what)
you'll insert th card, which will open the photo app. You'll import the video into your photo app, when you tap on it, it'll open the video app so your video can play. So another caveat, you have to have room on your device to import what you want to watch. it won't play off the card.

How can I connect a usb memory stick to ipad or iphone to remove photos

Generally you don't. You can' to an iPhone at all.
SOME (and I stress the some) memory sicks can be used via the USB camera connection kit to remove photos from the USB stick. (you cannot export photos from your iPad onto the memory stick, there is zero support to export)
I once had 14 USB sticks handy and put the same files on all of them, I got 7 to work. There was no singular manufacturer or size that worked. For files to be seen by the iPad the USB stick needs to mimic a camera, it needs to have a folder named DCIM and all file names must be 8 characters.
For some that are said to work easier, there are some wireless flash drives that connect to the ipad wirelessly rather than plugged in. iDrive is one, and I know there are others.

  • Connect USB devices to iPad

Is it possible to connect USB devices, such as an Extn Harddrive, using an adapter or such?: Thanks, Greg

You can use the iPad Camera Connection Kit to connect a camera or sdcard, but connecting a hard drive is not supported at the moment.  You can take a look at the Seagate Satellite hard dirve you can connect via Wi-Fi

  • Connecting USB/Midi to iPad while charging adapter?

    HI.
I Want to use my iPad as MIDI OUT sender from a app that uses this. But I know that running that app for several hours will use the battery really fast.
So I want a small adapter similar to the lightning-to-VGA just instead with a USB or a MIDI.
Is there somebody which knows where to find this if that exist?
    Cheers
    Rasmus

    Hi Folks,
I have tried most of what have been said here ( thank you for the great Job) but unforunatally it didn't solve the issue.
However, now the "Not Charging" message in the right corner disappeared and my iPad is charging normally from my laptop.
The reason behind that is using the USB3.0 port in my Dell inspiron N5110. Earlier, I was using the USB 2.0  ports and that is why it was showing that message but as sooon as I pluged it in the eSATA USB 3.0 port , the message disapeared and the iPad started charging normally.
So don't waste ur time here and there try to plug it to USB 3.0 port and it will works, Insha ALLAH.

  • How to use iPad (4th gen) to edit with iMovie - but using an external source such as a USB stick or external USB hard drive

Want to use my iPad (4th gen) to edit a movie using iMovie - easy enough if the movie file is on the iPad - but what if it's too large - can I keep the source file on a USB stick or external USB hard drive and edit from there?  How can you do this?

You can't export any type of file using the camera connection kit, so a USB flash drive or SD card won't work.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

  • I want to put photos on my ipad from a usb stick (with a connector)

When I put the 8GB usb stick into the ipad (through a connector) I get the message
    Cannot use device.
The connected USB device requires too much power.
I am trying to load some photos on the ipad.
    Thanks

I have 3 USB thumb drives. One, the oldest, causes the too much power msg. Buy a new one.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Why does a USB stick not work with my ipad mini

I bought an IPad mini and got an adapter to hookup a USB stick, but no matter what stick Zi put in the connection I get the same error message. " cannot use device the device requires too much power".

YOu can only download from cameras, SD cards and certain flash drives (i've had a 50/50 success rate when I've played around, with no consistent size or brand that always worked). The only formate it'll see are photos and videos and even those must follow a very strict naming convention.
There is zero support to transfer documents, music or any other kind of files to the iPad. As well as zero support for exporting anything off the iPad.
If you want to share your pictures, try uploading them to something like flicker or other online services.

  • How do I transfer a file to a usb stick straight from the ipad ?

How do I transfer a file to a usb stick straight from the ipad ?

Buy a portable wi-fi router with file sharing such as MOCREO 5-in-1 Portable WiFi (not personaly vouching for this one it just happens to be the one I have and it cost less than the apple connection cables).
Plug your USB stick into the router
Connect your ipad via wi-fi to the router.
Log into the routers built in file managment or use any FTP capable app to connect (GoodReader, ifiles, etc)
    Transfer files.

  • IPad and a 3G USB Stick

    Hi,
Does anybody know if you can connect the Wifi iPad to a 3G USB stick for data connectivity?
    Thanks
    Phil

No, will not work that way. You can either get a 3G router (the kinds that accept 3G sticks) or swap your 3G stick for a MiFi router (if your provider has such).

  • I don't have a wireless printer, and want to print things off of my iPad.  I know that I can use the iPad Camera Connection kit to connect USB devices like keyboards and I am wondering if I could do the same with a USB printer.

I don't have a wireless printer, and want to print things off of my iPad.  I know that I can use the iPad Camera Connection kit to connect USB devices like keyboards and I am wondering if I could do the same with a USB printer.

I don't think you can connect a printer since you won't have the printer drivers. I use FingerPrint from collobos.com to print to my non-AirPrint printers.

  • To upload photos from my pc onto my ipad using a usb stick. I bought a camera connector kit and tried placing the usb stick onto one of the white square adaptors, stuck it into the ipad2 and I got 'the device uses too much power'' message. Pls help.

I am not very familiar with the ipad2. I wished to transfer some photos from my pc (not an apple pc but that is the only one I have) to my ipad2 as I thought it would be easier to cull them, edit, crop etc to create albums for our recent trip (the photos are already on the pc and no longer on the camera memory card). When I place the usb stick on the adaptor and stick it onto the Ipad2 I keep getting 'device uses too much power/ requires too much power' message. I read somewhere on the internet that a usb hub could be used to solve the issue but that did not work either. What am I doing wrong? Is there actually a way around this problem. If not why does apple sell this product for Ipad users at all?
Thank you for any help/ solution you can offer.
    Regards

I'd ask that on the iPad forum.
