Connect wired network device to AX?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem, linking to an Airport Express in my living room's entertainment center using WDS. Works great. I'm looking at buying a Blu-ray player that has an Ethernet port for streaming services. Can I extend my home network from the Express to the Blu-ray player using an Ethernet cable? The AX User Guide only discusses using the Ethernet port to connect to a cable modem or existing network.

Take a look at the setup for a WDS arrangement posted to the forum earlier by Tesserax.
Your "g" devices can be configured to do this, and the ethernet port will be active, but the the wireless network bandwidth will be reduced by 50% when you do this.
This may or may not allow you to stream the content you need. There's really no way to know unless you try.

  • Intermitent connection to network devices

Hi, until recently I had been having no problems connecting to other devices on my network from my iMac, I have a couple of windows PCs with shared folders, a NAS and one of the windows PCs also runs a VNC server. All of these were working fine until I went away for the weekend, I don't know if my girlfriend has accidentally changed any of the network settings but when I came back the iMac was connecting to the wrong wireless network (a nearby unsecured network), I tried to get it to connect to my own network which uses WPA but I kept getting "invalid password" or "connection timeout" messages even after double checking the password. I gave up and decided to leave it till the morning but when I tried to connect again the next day it just worked however now I am getting intermittent connections to my local network devices. The connection to the router and the internet is constant but the are frequent periods of several minutes where I cannot access network shares or the VNC server. All the windows PCs on my network are constantly able to access these shares and the VNC server. What could have changed on the iMac to cause this?

I just attempted to measure the period that the network devices are available/not available for by pinging one of the network devices continuously and it seems that the devices are available for exactly 10min then not available for exactly 10min which seems very unusual. any ideas?

  • Cannot see wired network device in Home Sharing

I have an Apple TV 3, W7 HP Laptop and W7 Desktop.
The ATV3 and HP Laptop both connect to my home network wirelessly through my Linksys WRT610N Router. Home Sharing is enabled on my W7 laptop and the ATV3 can see it and access its Library.
The W7 Desktop is hard wired directly to the WRT610N Router. Home Sharing is enabled (all the same account) yet the ATV3 nor my W7 HP Laptop can see it or its Library contents.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what my problem might be (apart from using Windows )?

Are you sure you're not double natting, creating two separate networks.
To configure the AEBSn as an access point, you need to turn connection sharing off under AirPort Utility>Internet>Internet Connection>Connection Sharing. You also may have to change other settings in this section.

  • Intermittent wired network connection on HP OfficeJet Pro 8600

I've searched the forums and I haven't seen a problem/solution quite like I am experiencing, so I am starting a new thread.
I have a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 that will only keep an intermittent connection to my router.  Lately, it has been more often not than connected.  I usually have to disconnect and connect the Ethernet cable to the back of the printer several times before it will show a connection, and then, only for a little while before it drops the connection again.  When connected, everything works fine (printing, faxing, scanning).
When the printer is disconnected, the network status has a yield sign with an exclamation point inside.  There are no blinking lights on the back where the network cable connects.  When it connects (by me plugging and unplugging), the lights start flickering.  I've tried several cables including known good ones to rule that possibility out.  Cycling the power has no consistent affect.  The router is otherwise working fine.
Here are other details that might help:
Model:  HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 (N911a)
    Firmware: up-to-date
    Software drivers: up-to-date
    Router: CISCO E3200
    Connection: wired network
Static IP address reserved (not connecting with DHCP)
    MAC filtering off
Main Computer: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
    Wired Connection to the router
Can someone suggest a solution?  My best guess is that the network card in the printer is bad, but I am willing to try an easier solution.  Thanks.

Hi, are there any other peripherals using the RJ45 ports on the router?
Are you using a static IP address for the 8600?

  • Remote wired network from wireless source with Time Capsule?

    Hi,
I need to connect wired ethernet devices (e.g. printer) that are remotely located from my router and cable modem.  I am hoping to achive this by plugging the printer into the time capsule and have the time capsule join the network, but I cannot connect the TC to the modem with a cable.  Is this peven possible or does the TC have to be connected via wired ethernet from the router?
Seems like it should be easy but I have not had success yet.  I must be missing something!
    TC - 2TB model A1302
    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

BTW, my router is a Linksys WRT54GL
    ThanksWRT54GLWRT54GL
Are you running it on 3rd party, dd-wrt and the like??
They were an excellent router.. but are now well and truly out of date. They always had slow wan to lan throughput but it wasn't a big deal with slow internet speeds of yester-year.. now the G wireless and slow throughput are really shown up as inadequate.
And WDS is terrible in most early implementations.. Unless you do WDS to an identical router running identical firmware.. just don't do it.
What about simply using the TC in place of the WRT.. and get a second hand (if you don't want to spend too much) airport extreme, or a new express as the connection to the wired devices.
Or using EOP adapters (homeplug is another name).. for the printer.
You can certainly use the WRT54G as universal bridge to the TC.. as an alternative.. that would work better with the current hardware.. and the older dd-wrt should be fine.. (some of the newer DD-WRT are hopeless) but you cannot use WPA2.. only WPA to do it. This has to be done on 3rd party firmware.. no way on linksys firmware.. but third party is fine on these boxes.. they were after all the pioneers.

  • How can I share external devices connected to my Mac mini via USB on a wired network.

Own a Mac mini with Mountain Lion.  Purchased the server app.  The Mac mini is connected to a wired network with Mac’s and Windows machines.  I have an external hard drive and 2 printers connected to the MAC mini via USB.  I would like to share these devices with other computers on the wired network. Although I have attached similar devices with an airport extreme in the past, I am unable to use a wireless router in this case.  Any suggestions on making this work with my current setup?

You don't really even need server app to do this. Simply go to System Preferences | Sharing and turn on both File & Printer sharing. Then, for example, the printer (not relevant what connection it has but obviously USB is fine) will be available to everyone on the wired network.
That's all there is to it - unless I missed/misunderstood something re: your setup which seems very straightforward.

  • I can VPN into my work but can't connect to any devices inside that network

I authenticate fine and get an address but I cant connect to any devices inside my work.  I am connecting to Cisco Lan controllers, routers, and switches.
I thought it was a routing problem but I can connect with my iphone and open the webpage for my lan controllers and I even tested it on a pc laptop with Windows XP and it works fine.  I have a 2012 Macbook pro.  I prefer to use my Macbook all the time.  I haven't used my Windows laptop until today since I got the Mac.  Do you think I have the V-Word?

Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • CONNECT A B210 TO A WIRED NETWORK

    Hello.
I  want to connect  my HP  B210  printer  to  the  wired  network.  I just get a  USB  to  ethernet  converter?

This printer does not support wired networks.  Sorry.
I was able to find USB to Ethernet adapters for computers, but none for printers.  I do not believe this will work for you.  If such a device does exist, I cannot guarantee the printer will work consistently as it is not designed to handle network traffic through a USB port.

  • Airport Express connecting to an existing wired network

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect an Airport Express unit to an existing wired network, can someone please help me to set this up or what I need to do? I originally connected the ethernet cable from the device (airport express) to the switch it was on but it didn't work and the other computers were connecting to that network. Should I setup the Airport Express in Bridge Mode or will i need to fiddle around with the settings a bit?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Not sure what the difficulty is here.
All you really need to do is connect the Express to the switch with an Ethernet connection, open AirPort Utility on your Windows machine, and click Continue to get the process going.
If you need to download and install AirPort Utility for the PC, it is here:
    AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows
Select the "Create a wireless network" option, assign a device name and password to the Express, then assign a wireless network name and password for the wireless network that you want the Express to provide.
Select the Bridge Mode option when it appears and click Update to save the settings.
The Express will restart and you should have a green light on the Express.
Then, log on to that wireless network from the iPad.

  • Utilizing both wired network connections

    Hello,
Is it possible to utilize both wired network connections on a Mac Pro? What I need to do is connect 5 Mac Pro computers to each other via a Cisco switch and use file sharing to connect between them and transfer files. Also, the other network connection needs to be connected to our corporate network - email, internet, connecting to servers not associated with the other network connection. The second network connection is already in place, and I need to now connect the 5 Mac Pros. How do I set this up in OS X? Is it possible? Thanks.

    Hi RoyJames,
What type of device are you trying to connect to the printer?  It is possible to have the printer connected via USB for one device and connected via network for another.
    Hope this helps.

  • MBP takes long time to restore wired network connection after wake-up

    Hello...
My Mid-2010 MBP (MacBookPro6,2) has been experiencing this problem recently -- Whenever I wake up the computer from sleep, it needs approximately 10 seconds to restore its wired network connection. I know there are other annoying connection issues with MBP's WiFi/AirPort out there, but I'm talking about the wired connection here.
Maybe some don't even think this slowness is a problem at all, but this laptop used to be network-ready right after wake-up until 3~4 months ago. That was around the time when I upgraded to SSD and changed some settings via pmset, not sure if that's the culprit. It is now running OS X 10.8.5 and its pmset settings are:

Maybe try this, i am not sure that it will resolve the problem, but it is worth trying anyways.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpronetworking/thread/eef49e64-157c-4082-8e80-52e48309691f
    Hi All,
I've seen this problem multiple times, especially with Windows 7 64-bit versions and Enterprise edition.  The source of the problem appears to be the Bonjour service that is installed in the background and set to "Automatic" when installing certain 3rd
party applications.  Apple applications like iTunes and Adobe applications like Acrobat Professional and Creative Suites have been known to cause this problem.  I've also seen virtualization software like VMWare and VirtualBox cause similar issues
    with network adapters.
The solution in most of the cases I've come across has been to stop and disable the Bonjour service.  The Bonjour service also masquerades as a service with a name of the format "##Id_String1.6844F930_blahblahblah".  Here's how to disable this service
    in Windows 7:
Right-Click on Computer > Select 'Manage'
Expand the 'Services and Applications' section in the bottom of the Left-Nav dialog and Select 'Services'
Sort the Services list by name and look for either "Bonjour" or the "##Id_String..." name mentioned above
Right-Click on the service and select 'Properties'
Click the 'Stop' button to stop the service
Select 'Disabled' from the 'Startup type' drop down list
    Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'
Reboot your machine and see if the "Multiple Networks" issue is resolved.  If so, you should have internet connectivity again.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Aaron

  • A connection to the deployment share could not be made - Networking device did not have a driver installed

    Hi,
According to your description, it should be Intel NIC driver problem. I have checked HP official website, there is new NIC driver released, please access to the link below to download the NIC driver for test:
