Connect WRT300N router to a WRT54GS

I have a WRT300N router that I want to connect a WRT54GS to with an ethernet cord and put the WRT54GS closer to my daughters room so she will get a stronger signal on her wireless laptop.  Can anyone tell me what I have to do to achieve this?  Do I have to run the CD for the WRP54GS on her laptop? Will she have the same security code as we do through the WRT300N?  The warranty is out on the WRT54GS and linksys will not tell us how to achieve this unless we pay $34 to renew.  The WRT65GS has never been used..so basically new.  Thank you for any help.

Your WRT54GS can be setup the same way mentioned in the my previous post at:
http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&message.id=93132&jump=true...
The only thing different with your setup is that the WRT54GS does not have as many channels to set.   Ideally your WRT54GS can be set to a channel that is at least 5 channels away from your WRT300N channel settings.

  • Not able to connect my Iphone to my WRT54GS router with security enabled

As the subject line states, I'm not able to connect my Iphone to my WRT54GS router when the security is enabled. When ever I attempt to connect to my network with my phone it always tells me the password is incorrect. I have double checked the password in the easylink advisor and it matches up. I have also tried both WPA and WEP with the same result, I know that the wireless is working on the router as I turned the security off and was able to connect to it. I updated the firmware this evening also with no changes. If anyone could help me with this issue it would be much appreciated.

First of all, in the router, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also, in the router, set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your iPhone find and lock on to your router's signal.
To connect using WEP, enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into the iPhone, not the WEP password or passphrase.
To connect using WPA, make sure that there is not an encryption nomenclature problem.  For example, WPA is not the same as WPA with AES.  Please note the following:
WPA    =   PSK    =   WPA with TKIP  =  WPA   personal
    WPA2  =   PSK2  =   WPA with AES   =  WPA2 personal
I am not certain, but your iPhone probably does just ordinary WPA  (not WPA with AES).  Assuming that this is correct, then the router should be set to:
    "WPA personal"  with  "TKIP"
Also, in the iPhone, be sure to delete the entry for your unsecured connection to your router, before you try to input info regarding the secured connection to the router.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with WMP54gs card to WRT300n Router Connecting

Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue I am having with my wireless???
I have a WMP54gs pci card and trying to connect to a WRT300n Router but when I try to connect it will never get an ip.  I know each of them work just not with each other.  With the card I am able to connect to the actual 2wire DSL modem but not the router and I have other computers connected to the router.
I have tried everything I can think of even gone as far as re-installing windows.

You need to Update the Drivers for your Wireless Adapter...Download the Drivers from here
Once you have downloaded the drivers you need to unzip the file...After you unzip the file you should un-install the adapter drivers/software...Reboot your computer...You should see a message found new hardware...Select the option Install it from a specific location, then select Include this location in Search and browse to the place where you have unzipped all the files and select the Driver folder and click O.k...Then click Next and it should install the adapter drivers...
NOTE : This installation doesn't install the software(Linksys Monitor)...
Once the Adapter is installed, Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections- Right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select "View Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and click "Connect".

  • WRT54G software installation now prevents internet connection WITHOUT router

Since installing the software/drivers that were on the installation CD I can no longer connect to the internet when NOT using the router. i.e. if I connect my modem directly to my PC it recognises the modem is connected but then gives me a "limited or no connectivity" message and I cannot connect to the internet at all. However, if I connect my modem to the router and then connect the router to my PC I can get an internet connection just fine. Whatever software was installed has prevented all internet connectivity when not using the router. Does anyone know how I can get a direct modem-to-PC connection working again? Thanks

So now Ive hooked up my new router and still getting the same issues... PSN connection timing out.
Ive tried everything under the sun for both routers... port forwarding, DMZ, disabling any security on my routers, firmware upgrade... you name it.
Im wondering if anyone has the new router I have and had problems connecting to the PSN and if you were able to fix it??? If so how...
I should note too, that if I go wired from my PS3 to my internet modem... it works A ok... but Id prefer not to have a 75 foot long ethernet cable running around our house...

    Please help...
    Hi JIGGGsaw ,
Few things in mind you should take care of once trying to perform the settings on router.
    1. enabled the DMZ - with the static ip let says - 192.168.1.55
    2. Click security Tab > unchek filter anonymous internet request.- save settings.
    3. administration tab > check if UPnP is enable ,if not then enable it .
    4. Now once if , you are not able to connect through wireless networking Option in PS3. then try adding the Networking settings manually Like-
      Ip address - 192.168.1.55
    Subnet mask- 255.255.255.0
    Gateway       - 192.168.1.1
    DNS settings -
    Primary DNS - 4.2.2.2
    Secondary DNS - 192.168.1.1
NOTE : First Try With only WEP security level or unsecured network if it works , then later change the security.
NOTE 2: Wireless settings :  Radio band- standard 20mhz
                                                               wide: 3
                                                       standard : 11,9,1,6 (any one)
Let me know the status now?

  • WRT300N Router does not working with Intel 4965AGN adapter on Wireless-N

Hi! I have recently bought the laptop Acer 5920G with Intel 4965AGN network adapter and Windows Vista. I have read that WRT300N Router is supporting Draft-N standard, so I purchased it. The router is working fine on Wireless-G 54Mbps (firmware - 2.00.17), but not on Wireless-N. I tried to enter the following settings: ssid - any non-linksys name;  radio band - wide; n-channel - 9; standard channel - 11; beacon interval - 50; Fragmentation threshold - 2306; RTS threshold - 2307, but nothing has happened, connection still remains 54Mbps. How should I configure the router and network adapter to get Wireless-N?

okay... try reflashing/upgrading the firmware on the router, after reflashing the firmware on the router, reset it back to default settings and reconfigure it according to ISP settings...edit the wireless settings again, make sure that "wireless mode" should be mixed...
on the vista computer, click on start >> control panel >> network & sharing center >> manage wireless network and try removing existing wireless networks from profile and manually add wireless n/w profile according to wireless settings of the router...check whether it makes any difference or not and let me know.

  • Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop wont connect to router anymore

Eveything was great untl I had to change the encryption code on the router, now I cant get the laptop to connect to the router anymore. Nothing was changed on the computer and the only thing that was changed on the router was the encryption code. The Dell laptop has a 1370 mini wireless card in it running windows XP, and I updated it last night to the latest driver. My Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop has no problem connecting to it. The wireless router is a WRT54GS. I have also started wireless zero configuration and checked the box to let windows control my wireless. And the box in properties that says "Enable IEEE 802.1authentication for this network" is not checked.
Sometimes when I try to connect it, it will say connected when it isnt connected to anything. Other times when I try to connect it will connect to another wireless internet in the neighborhood that doesnt have any encryption. And then other times I get the message that says "windows was unable to find a certificate to log you on to the network". I got it to connect when I took the the encryption off the router but for some reason it doesnt want to connect with encryption on it. I am using WEP 64bit. I checked all the settings on both the laptops and the wireless settings are exactly the same. I dont understand why mine will connect and the other one wont.  Any ideas?

You can try manually adding the network on your computer, Also change the SSID on the router if it is linksys(default).
To add the network manually try the below mentioned settings.......
Click on Start and go to the Control Panel and double click on Network Connections, right click on Wireless Network Connection disable it and then Re-enable it .
Right click on Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties,Now on this window, click on the second tab Wireless Network and give a check mark on "Use windows to configure my wireless" and then remove all the network names present in the Preferred Networks Window. Then click on OK...
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection again and click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to re-connect to your network...
Now it will give you the opportunity to put the network/security key, make sure you enter the correct network key and confirm it...
    It will connect...
That should resolve the issue for you.

  • WRT300N Router will not configure during setup

I have a WRT300N Router Version 1.1, when reinstalling this on my computer after a crash I cannot get the setup to complete.  When the setup goes throught the config stage it gets to 99% and then stops and gives me an error message that it would not configure.
I have updated the firmware and this still will not get it to work.  What can I do?

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last firmware upgrade, please do this now and see if it corrects your problem.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Trying to connect WRT300N to WRVS440N on VLAN??

Hello - I am hoping someone can point to me to some documentation on how to really setup a VLAN setup witht he WRVS440N.
I have purchased this router - because of the VLAN capability - and would like to connect the other router - a LinkSys WRT300N router to it.   I want to have one set of people connect to the WRVS440N - (this is my home business) - and I would like to have another set of people connect to the other router (wireless and wired) - but the two networks should not be able to talk to one another.  My understanding is that VLAN will allow this - and that the traffic from the WRT300N would just pass through the WRVS440N to and from the Internet (cable modem).
If I understand things correct - I have to have the wire from the S440N come from one of the four ports on the back - and then plug into the Internet port on the back of the 300N.  Is that correct?
I have the S440N setup to use the 192.168.1.1 address - and the other router is now configured to use 192.168.2.1.  They have a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 - so they will even keep the address seperate.
Then I have to setup the VLAN on the S440N.  This is the gray area for me.  I am technical (Programmer) - but some of the network terms don't make a lot of sense when trying to figure out what I need to do to get the VLAN setup.
Any links or suggestions would be appreciated!!

As the WRVS4400N is now part of Cisco Small Business you better ask your question here.
Generally, as the WRVS4400N supports VLANs there is no need for a second router. You can get network separation by using two routers or by using VLANs. Using both is possible but not necessary.

  • NAS Backup Drive connected to Router

I have been using a WRT54G router to connect my 2 desktops together in a network in addition to the internet. I have been reading that there is a backup drive that can be connected directly to the router, which can then be accessed by both computers without the other being on.
I was wondering if anyone can suggest a NAS drive to connect via ethernet to my WRT54G router that I can use for backups and sharing data with both computers along with backup software? I have found a number of them, however I wasn't sure if they worked with the Linksys router or not. I am looking for a 500gb to possibly 1tb if not too expensive.

I think there is no problem connecting a NAS to WRT54G router. It will work.
You can try NSLU2 or NAS200.

  • WRT300N Router Issue

Why would a WUSB300N Wireless-N Adapter that is 'talking' to a WRT300N Router get connected just fine, the Wireless Connection gets to the Internet just fine...but only Google & MySpace will load and only maybe 1 of 3 times...and when they do load, it takes forever, 45-60 seconds.  No other sites will load at all.
My son CAN connect to other wireless networks in the neighborhood and can get to the Internet fine and all sites load fine and quickly as normal, so the problem must be the router.  The wireless setup is very basic, no MAC Cloning, I changed no Advanced Settings from the defaults, I am using WPA2 security.  Two other PC's, not wireless, get to the Internet thru the Router & navigate fast and normal.
I have downloaded and applied the one firmware update, I did not as yet apply the firmware Setup download that is zipped.  My ISP is Comcast, can't believe I am the only one with an N router with them.  Running Windows XP, SP2.  We have not touched any Internet Explorer settings. Anyone have a clue here, I don't????

Please note that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=893357 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.

  • Range Extender for WRT300n Router

I set up a wireless network with the WRT300n router and the WMP-N PCI Adapter in a remote desktop.  There is marginal signal strength and the connection goes in and out.  My question is:  Is there a range extender available for this router?  Because if there isn't, then I've wasted several hundred dollars for this equipment!!!

Just what sort of distance are you talking about between the WRT and the PC? THis model already has extended range over most anything else...
    1. You may want to think about a repeater between the two
    2. You may want to think about directional antennae

  • Airport is connected to router but no internet

I have seen many forums and posts on this and nothing seems to help so i will explain my own situation and see if it helps.  I am using  white macbook, purchased from the apple store in september '07.  I am running os x 10.6.8.  The router i am using is a D Link DIR 615.  The line of connection is as follows: cable from wall to modem, modem to router, and devices connect to router via wireless. Here is my dillema.  Airport connects to the router, full bars,  i get internet conection for about 2 minutes, then i get nothing.  Airport is indicating that I am still connected to the router, and I have an IP (not the 167 or self assigned, it says im good to go).  For me to get back on the internet i have to turn off the airport, turn it back on and reconnect to the router.  I have tried to renew DHCP lease, i can when connection is good but after the 2 minutes i can't.  I tried taking the network off my keychain to where i would have to type in the password each time, that didn't do it.  I changed the password on the router, as well as other settings, that didn't do it.  The reason this puzzles me and make me believe that it is my own airport is because multiple machines in our household work fine on the router, including a macbook pro form either 09 or '10, an iPhone 3G S, and an android smart phone.  other people have come over and used our wireless with no problem.  My computer is the only one that does this.  And the shame of it is, I am a graphic designer and I use my computer the most in the houshold, and I need the internet connection the most.  if anyone has any idea, and I am completely open to giving more information if you need it.  I understand it could be extremely technical and it is already beyond my reach.

    Hi Kelly Chant-
Any chance that the little AirPort antenna in the back has become dislodged? Try powering down everything on the network including routers and/or switches, wait 10 minutes, turn it all back on and see what happens.
    Luck-
