Connected Apple CD drive to iMac, want to copy CDs to iTunes.  CDs ejected but doesn't load in iTunes???

Want to copy CDs to iTunes library.  (Elected not to transfer files from old Mac OS 10.5.8)
CD loaded into drive, ran, then ejected but nothing loaded into iTunes?  What am I missing?

I did set iTunes Preferences, and tried different selections.  Nothing works.  By process of elimination, I think it probably is the CD drive.
The work-around, I've loaded selections from my older Mac via flash drive.  Now that I think about it, that is a better choice since I'm only transferring the songs that I actually want from the old CDs rather than the entire albums.
Thanks for your advice!

  • Best way of connecting multiple hard-drives to imac?

Hi - can anyone suggest the best way/alternative way to connecting 2 LACIE d2 extreme hard-drives to my imac G5.
Dilema - I don't have enough native firewire ports to have both drives direct to the imac. I don't have any firewire 800 sockets on the imac and I don't have enough native usb ports (although I don't really want to use USB anyway!).
Although I have both USB and Firewire hubs - I am not keen at putting harddrives through hubs.
However, what I was thinking (and this is the question really - has anybody done this?) - is it ok/stable to connect one drive to the other with firewire 800 cable and take the output of these two via firewire 400 to the imac? Is this an exceptable solution or are there any obvious alternatives I am missing?
Has anybody done this? Does it work fine/fast enough for video/audio projects?

I was disappointed at the lack of a second Firewire 400 port for chaining Fire wire devices on the LACIE drive when I got it, not that its a huge deal I guess.
So basically you want to try
    [Drive 2] <<FW 800--Cable--FW 800>> [Drive 1] <<FW 800--cable--FW 400 >> [iMac FW 400 port]
    or
    [Drive 2] <<FW 800--Cable--FW 800>> [Drive 1] <<FW 400--cable--FW 400 >>[iMac FW 400 port]
I have no idea if this would work or not, cant wait to see if you can pull it off or not. For the first example it would depend on whether the FW 800 bus in the drive fell back to 400 speeds properly.
For the second example it would depend on whether the FW 800 and FW 400 connections in the drive were bridged or not if not then it would only see the first drive.
Hopefully someone has some first hand info out there. Good luck

  • Connecting Apple TV Through My iMac

    Hi,
I would like to connect my Apple TV through my iMac rather than directly through my router.  Either wired, WIFI or using Bluetooth?
Is it possible to share the internet connection via my iMac this way?
    ...jono...

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    Unfortunately not.

  • Connecting Apple TV 2 to iMac

Is there any way that i would be able to use my imac an external display for my apple tv 2?? i belive i have the right wires to do it but am unable to navigate settings on the imac to get it to work.
    Hope someone can help
    George

Thanks for the reply and I appologise for not getting back sooner, been away.
It seems that the iMac requires a reboot for any network changes to take effect, at least that is the experience here.
I have a My Book attached to the iMac via usb which is accessable by apple tv and the imac, it is formated in NTFS.  It will not show up on the Macbook air, no matter what username and PW is sign on with.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting Apple optical drive to non-Apple PC

    Hello!
I couldn't find a proper place for this question so I have came to this forum.
I have Apple optical USB drive (not sure what model, it is the slim, nice looking one) which I need to connect to a Windows XP laptop. I tried with few PC's without success.
I am also not sure about how much pressure should I apply to a DVD when inserting it into this drive. Must it be powered on while inserting DVD?
Thank you very much in advance!

    trhbtr,
That drive requires more power through a usb port than is normally available. That's why it's only supported on the MBair and the Mac Mini. Your PC probably doesn't supply enough power. I wouldn't try inserting a DVD with it powered off. It has assist features that grab the DVD and insert it properly when powered on.

  • I have a rMBP that needs to be backed up.  The Wi-Fi in my house is poor and I do not have an Ex. Hard Drive.  I want to get the new Airport Time Capsule, but can you accomplish it's benefits wirelessly?

    So...
I have a modem across the house and my room is at the opposite side.  I believe that you have to connect the Airport Time Capsule via modem cable in order for you to appreciate the benefits of the boosted up Wi-Fi.  However, I want the airport time capsule in my room, without having any extra cables plugged into it AND also benefit from the Wifi boosts, as well as back it up wirelessly.
Is there any way to do this?  I was reading up on it and there are search queries bringing up "bridges" and all that stuff, but I haven't found a clear answer on it.
    So, to recap:
I want the Airport Time Capsule to not only back up my rMPB and help my wifi signal out, but to do all of this with no additional cables having to be plugged in.
    Thanks.

Trust me when I say this coming from 20 years of experience.
Get a powered external drive, format it 1 Partition Option: GUID and OS X Extended Journed as the format in Disk Utility.
Download and install Carbon Copy Cloner, clone internal drive to external drive.
Set a schedule to remind you to do it at least once a week, keep it near your charger.
When you plug your charger in, do plug the clone and power the machine up, set the display to sleep only,
    CCC will do the rest.
If you want to boot from it, hold the option/alt and select it Startup Manager.
I've seen many TimeMachine and TimeCapsule nightmares and so far haven't seen a problem from anyone using a bootable clone.
It's simple, it's easy, it's more reliable and more powerful than what Apple does and it only takes plugging in a extra cable.
Make as many clones as you want, keep them time seperated, off site etc. etc.
Cables don't have network issues, clones can be verified in seconds merely by booting from them.
Clones protect your productivity, your up in seconds on a clone despite even the hard drive dying.
Software problem? No sweat, boot of the clone and reverse clone your problems away.
If you want to fuss and muss with half implemented TimeMachine and TimeCapsule network headaches then prepare to suffer.
I don't like to suffer, I bought a Mac not to suffer, but it appears you do with TimeMachine and TimeCapsule.

When I select other wifi options... the home sharing still does not work!!!! VERY ANNOYING. I want to smash this to pieces right now.

it's very unclear what you are saying
    create profile what?
if you mean create an appleId then that does not require a mac
if something else which seem to require you having a mac tell us
I never had any problems when I had a pc only

  • How do i get video from my sony hx100 digital camera to my mac? after connecting the camera via the supplied usb cable, iMovie shows icons for 5 videos, but none will load.

i've connected the camera to the mac using the supplied usb cable. imovie shows 5 icons for videos but all of them have the red circle with slash through them and the box to import them is grayed out.

Get a nice Sony miniDV camcorder. It is not too expensive; it is small and easy to carry around to shoot your video. Most importantly, it will be instantly compatible with iMovie. You don't have to install any software, just connect it via FireWire (Sony calls this iLink) and you are good to go!
I have had several Sonys and love them. You don't need one with fancy editing capabilities because you will edit your movies in iMovie. Just be sure that it has AV In and Out so you can import and export back to the camcorder.
My current version is the small DCR HC-26. There are newer versions of that HC-30something and 40something. Look at the specs on Sony's website
Some of them require the use of a dock to import and export. I am not really fond of that feature. I like just connecting directly to the camera.

  • I've borrowed my friend's iPod and I want to copy CERTAIN songs to my computer but not the whole lot. Is there any way to do this?

I know how to get all of the songs off an iPod and onto a computer but I was wondering if there was a way to only get a select few because when you get them from the folders they're all labeled as F00 and stuff.
Or is there a way to convert these strange labels back to the name they were originally saved as ?

  • How can I connect Apple TV to iMac with ethernet

AppleCare told me to plug the Apple TV into the iMac using ethernet to transfer the iTunes content faster with less glitches.  But how do I see the Apple TV screen on my iMac to configure it???  When I connect Apple TV using ethernet, nothing appears on the iMac screen.

This only applies if you have a first generation Apple TV. Also I hope you have a router and are not connecting the ATV directly to the iMac.
Usually I sync my First Generation Apple TV wirelessly, but sometimes I'll have some huge media files I want to sync on it which can take a long time. In those cases all you do is connect your Apple TV via ethernet cable to the same router your iMac is connected to. Don't worry about it not being connected to a tv because all you are going to do is SYNC your Apple TV. If you do not see your Apple TV in iTunes, turn off the Apple TV, and quit iTunes. Then turn on the Apple TV first, wait a minute and then start iTunes. Once iTunes sees the Apple TV, manage your content, then sync it.
Once the Apple TV has completed its sync, quit iTunes. Unplug your Apple TV, and then put the device back by the TV you want to enjoy the content on.
I have done such a thing a few times and it works flawlessly.

  • Cannot get my Samsung SyncMaster S27B370 to connect to my Mid 2011 iMac 27

Cannot get my Samsung SyncMaster S27B370 to connect to my Mid 2011 iMac 27 inch with HDMI to thunderbolt port adapter but works like a charm in Windows 7 when I bootcamp over to it. Any ideas? The cable is working properly as shown by the fact that Windows 7 uses both monitors perfectly. I am using Mac OS X Mountain Lion and have already done the option + cmd + p + r boot reset to no avail. It does not find the second monitor at all as in it doesn't even show up in the display preference pane.

... Apple tells me it is the printer mfr issue and printer companies tell me it is apple issue.
    Arguably, they're both right.
Changing your router changes everything, so your best course of action is to research the respective printer's documentation and determine how to reset them to factory default condition. Then, add them again using System Preferences > Print & Scan.
For that, I recommend you first "reset the printing system" according to these instructions: Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system. Its instructions for Lion are identical to those for Mountain Lion.
As the article states, it will remove all your existing printers, leaving the Mac's printing system in a similar "factory default" condition ready for you to create a new print queue for each printer, which you should probably do.
Apple's printing support documents contain a great deal of redundancy, but this one may be a good place to start: OS X Mountain Lion: Set up a printer to print wirelessly

  • How do you transfer pictures from external hard drive to imac

I am a PC user crossing over to the iMac. I want to move my pic on an external hard drive to the iMac.  Tried clicking and dragging, but didn't take....what gives?

If you can read the external drive then it must be formatted acceptably for the Mac...if you have the pix in one folder, right click the folder, or cntrl-click, copy, then click the folder on the internal drive where you want to copy the pix and right click, or cntrl-click, and paste.  Should work like a PC in that respect.

  • My Netbook that my phone is sync to does not have a cd drive and I want to put my digital copies onto it

My Netbook that my phone is sync to does not have a cd drive and I want to put my digital copies onto it but I do not know how to, I have a laptop I can put the disks in but I don't know if it will let me copy the file to a flash drive any ideas? also I keep getting this message about updating my media player security and when i go to the site it links to the update button is greyed out and will not allow me to do it

If you import the CD on your laptop with a disc drive, then you can place the music files on a flash drive and transfer them over to your netbook. You could also choose to email the music files from the disc drive laptop to yourself to download them onto your netbook through your mail account.
As for your second question, is it windows media player you're trying to update? Try downloading the latest version of WMP to see if that resolves the issue.
