Connected but nothing loads fully except AOL

While still using Panther, I left town for a week and when I came back I had problems getting online with my G4 which is connected to the Internet via cable modem. I also have a router. I switched to Tiger and the problems continued. The Tiger Network Diagnostics tell me that my Internet connection is fine. But when I try to go to most websites, generally I get no part of the web page. When the website has a symbol, such as Yahoo, Google, Amazon, etc., the symbol will appear in the web address line which by the way, stays red unless I go to it and hit the return at which point it turns blue. Sometimes (but not on every try), I'll get the Google homepage and if I put in a search term, I'll get the search results. But if I click on any of the search results, I can't connect through to the underlying web page. I am an AOL subscriber and I can connect to AOL and get access to my mailbox with normal speeds. However, if I try to click on a news or other item on the AOL home page, I can't connect through. I also must almost always try twice or even more often before I connect with AOL. I talked with the Support Department of my ISP and was told that from their end my connection was normal and I should get some spyware because my computer might have been turned into a drone. Because AOL mail works at regular speeds, I doubt that this is the case. I will appreciate any suggestions that might help get me out of this mess.

Since it is highly doubtful that your Mac has been
turned into a drone which is commonplace with a
Windows PC, have you tried connecting direct to the
cable modem bypassing the router to check if the same
occurs when not connected through the router?
Thanks for suggesting I take the router out of the equation. When I bypassed the router my Internet connection was fully restored. I initially thought the router had gone bad but when I re-connected it, everything still worked fine.

Wi-Fi connected, but nothing loads

Downloaded + installed (upgrade, not clean) ML on my iMac this morning to find that the internet isn't working properly; the computer seemingly connects to the network fine, but nothing will load. Not in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Mac App Store, iTunes, etc. I restarted the computer a few times, and once, I was able to get sites to load (albeit slowly). Not really sure how to go about trying to solve this, so any suggestions would be great.

Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
Can you open a terminal and try to ping your router and then an Internet site (like www.apple.com)? What is the result?
If you can ping both of the above, try this command in terminal:
sudo scutil -r www.apple.com
Does this command come back and say the site is reachable?
A couple of things to try and fix this:
1. trash the system config PLISTS and reboot (note you will loose your iMac's network settings, so if you are using static entry's IP address, DNS, etc be sure to write them down before attempting this).
Open a terminal and do the following commands:
mkdir ~/Desktop/old_sys_configs
sudo cp -pR /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/* ~/Desktop/old_sys_configs
cd /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
rm -rf *.plist
The above commands will save a copy of your current network settings to a folder on the Desktop. Reboot your iMac. When your Mac comes back, try to connect to your Ethernet network or Wi-Fi network and see what happens.
If this fails, then I would suggest to reboot holding command r to get into the recovery partition so you can re download and re install ML.

Off and on when using a Wifi in a hotel or at Starbucks etc., I have a strong network signal but nothing will load...my Touch checks for e mail but nothing happens, the weather application tries to update but nothing happens, internet errors with things like too many pages open so I close pages and nothing happens. Open networks often require that you visit a Terms & Conditions page and agree prior to granting full network access. OS 3.x will normally pop up a Safari like page to allow you to do this. If not, you can go to Safari and refresh the page you are on to bring up the logon page for the network.

Ok, I have skimmed through the threads here and the FAQ and still am having troubles. I amt trying to connect a MacbookPro to this wireless router. I have had it connected before which adds to my frustration. I ran all the system diagnostics and come to a point where it says, "This device has an internet connect but cannot load __________. Make sure you have the address typed in correctly." My MAC picks up the router signal, but in the diagnostics it goes as follows. AirPort - Yes Airport Settings - Yes Network Settings - Yes ISP - Yes Internet - No Server - No Please, any help is very appreciated.

Thanks, this was the clue I needed to figure it out.
From Settings you can pull up Control Center.
In Control Center you can enable "Access from within Apps" (also "Access from Lockscreen")
Now when I'm playing music, I can swipe up from the bottom and a little control center window slides up. Neat - this is new since my old iPod. On this window, the name of the current Bluetooth connection appears. Tap on that, and a list of connected Bluetooth items appears. I just tap on the one I want to connect to and I am now playing through the speakers I want.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed). Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

Please follow these steps :
Go to following location:
for Win
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe
for MAC
Finder> Go > Go to Folder
\Library\Applicaiton Support\Adobe
~\Library\Applicaiton Support\Adobe
Locate folder OOBE and rename it OOBE.old
Download and install�
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Macintosh : Adobe Application Manager
After the installation
Try to Open Adobe Application Manager / Creative Cloud App.
Log in that with Adobe ID and Password.
If it does not work first try couple of times more.
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

I checked the catalogs and see that lrcat-Journal and lrcat-Lock have been created every time I try to open. I have a backup from the first day I upgraded, but Lightroom doesn't want to access it. Should I reinstall?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

First startup of App Store may take a while, trying to pull up sign in and apple-made apps. Especially if you have a slow connection

IPhone 4S shows max strength connection but not loading mail or finding Safari pages

My iPhone is the exception. We have an iPad and an iPad mini and both connect from the same room to the same router as the iPhone and the iPads work faultlessly. The iPhone shows a full 5 bars connection strength but nothing is coming to it from the internet. The timer whirls around but, eventually, mail, Safari and all other internet apps just time out.
I've tried resetting the network by "forgetting" then re-connecting with a new entry of the password. I've tried shutting down the iPhone and re-starting. Nothing seems to have any effect.
