Connected clients on Aironet 1140

I've been using Aironet 1140 series access point for a while. Recently it started to drop the wireless clients quite often. we have nearly 20 wireless users and one access point. they are mix of apple macs, windows and mobile phone users. when i went in to see the connected clients all the clients whown on the web page are connected through cable to our LAN. whay is it showing as connected to dot11 radio? am i missing something here? thanks

Can you post a screen shot?  You sure the devices on your lan doesn't ahve a wireless card?
Thanks,
Scott

  • Cannot get Windows 7 x64 laptop to connect to AIRONET 1140 WAP

I recently changed the configuration of my Aironet 1140 from WEP to WAP2-Enterprise to make it more secure. I am using the WAP as the radius server. After making the change I connected my Blackberry to the wap as well as a Samsung Chromebook.  However when I tried to connect my HP laptop it is unable to connect. Watching from the Aironet's console I see that it is processing the association and windows ask me to enter my uid and password. When I do this I get an authentication error. I have tried several times adjusting parameters on windows but it always fails. Here is the configuration of the WAP:

  • Aironet 1140 54Mbps connection speed

We are having some issues with our AP: Aironet 1140 at our head office where people are complaining of slow connection speeds.
I have gone through the configuration on the controller and noticed that all Clients were connecting at 802.11g connection speeds (54Mbps).
I have noticed in the configuration page on the controller Wireless>802.11b/g/n > High Throughput is disabled.  (See attached screenshot)
I don’t want to just enable this setting in case it disconnects all the users from all the AP’s not just the ones at head office.
We use 802.1x for authentication and Machine certificates.
    All Clients connect using WPA2.
Would this settings increase the connection speed up to 802.11n?
Is there a way to just enable it on 1 AP to trial it before enabling it on all the AP’s?

The wireless speed is only 15-20mbps Max. When connected via Lan cable the speed is around 45mbps.
As scott said, you are getting this speed due to the half duplex nature of wireless. If your AP model is 1142, then you can configure radio1 interface (5GHz)  for the SSID. You MUST use WPA2/AES  or Open Auth in order to get 802.11n speeds which is greater than 54Mbps. I do not think you are using that at the moment & it may be a reason why clients data rates not get 802.11n speeds.
Below shows different AP model max data rates. If your clients having multiple spatical stream (SS) capability they can get higher speeds. Note that 20MHz BW is the max you can get in 2.4GHz band & 40MHz bandwidth you can get from 5GHz with channel bonding. So 5GHz is always better if you looking for higher througput (but obviously client should able to connect in 5GHz)
Adding antoher AP would be a good idea (without bridging) & see wether you could afford 2602 or 3602 which can go upto 450Mbps data rates . Practically if you could you get 50% (which is around 200Mbps) that is really good. Note that this is total AP througput & if you connect multiple clients that will be shared among users.
Also keep in mind when you add multiple users all users aggregate bandwidth is limited to 50Mbps due to your WAN link speed. So that would be the bottleneck within your network.

  • Cisco Aironet 1140 Issues (Dropping clients, 5GHz issue, AP Switching)

    Greetings,
We've been having issues for a while with these Aironet 1140's. We have two of them in the office and the issue is similar to the first issue displayed in this post:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-26228
The only difference is that I can't do this since we don't use a controller.
We're using Mac clients on Lion/Mt. Lion. We have no issues connecting to the access points, but occassionally the user will drop off one of the AP's(Access Point 2). Recently I changed the setup from TKIP/WPA to AES-CCM/WPA to get the PHY address to 802.11N instead of 802.11G. I got the speeds working fine, but I suppose this caused an issue of people dropping off at different times. I noticed if I remove the SSID from the preferred list and reconnect it goes from WPA to WPA2. Not sure if this is relevant information, just trying to list what I can to resolve this issue. I haven't had any reported issues with the other Access Point(Access Point 1).
Another issue we have is getting the radio to work on 5GHz for Access Point 1. It seems when a user is connected to the 5GHz signal, it will not load any web pages. Can ping out just fine, and ping internally as well. I've checked to see if the client is getting an IP address, and it is. It also has DNS set to 8.8.8.8 and another DNS IP we use. The other Access Point seems to work just fine with 5GHz enabled. Both work with 2.4GHz with no issues at all.
Lastly, clients are not switching Access Points to the strongest signal. I've tried this test with 5+ machines running different OS's from Snow Leopard to Mt. Lion. The client will not switch over passively, the Laptop must be closed and reopened to re-establish the connection to grab the closest signal. This isn't a huge issue, but it's something I'd like to get fixed. This could have been an ongoing issue before I switched the AP's to AES-CCM, but I've only noticed it after the fact.
If there's any additional information needed that could help resolve these issues, let me know.
    Thanks!

The wireless clients/devices decides which WAPs to join.  It's not a "Cisco thing".  It's the standard.
That's what I figured, it's just an issue we have been having lately and trying to rule out the possibility it might be an Access Point issue.
Did you enable WPA and WPA2???  Apple does not like to "choose".  You have to either use WPA OR WPA2.
Actually, yes I should have included my steps of trying to resolve the issue. For some reason, the SSID would not appear in the listing of SSID's so I removed the preferred connection, which was WPA, and manually added it to be WPA2 Personal on the client. Still saw some issues with a few users, others seem to have rectified or they're not telling me.
I checked the event logs on the device and saw this:
Packet to client e0f8.4735.c16e reached max retries, removing the client
After some research, it was recommended to raise the packet retry value to 128. I haven't received any complaints from the 3 people that usually complain about dropped wifi yet, but it's still too soon to say.
The only thing I can think of is the signal strength.  Disable the 2.4 Ghz and see what signal strength you are getting with the 5.0 Ghz.
It should not be signal strength since I am about 10 feet away on my test machine which has the issue as well as any other clients in any distance long enough to grab the connection. I will try turning off 2.4 when there's nobody in the office tomorrow in the morning to see if that actually works. I would like to have it dual band though since we're not all at 5GHz here. With this issue, I was actually fearing that there just may be an issue with the 5GHz radio hardware. We also have an extra 1140 laying around I used for testing; the 5GHz radio worked with identical settings to the one not working.
Thanks for the reply! I will take a look at what you suggested a little further and keep this updated if increasing the packet retry value actually rectified the problem just in case someone else has the same issue.

  • Android 4.1 tablet not connecting to Aironet 1140

Hello community, I am having an issue with my Android Tablet running 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It is able to the SSID, but when I try to connect - it stays connecting and then says saved, and never connects, as it does not pick up an IP address. I updated the firmware on the Aironet 1140 due to my Windows 8 pc's not connecting as well, it solved my Windows 8 problem, just not my Android Tablet problem. My Ipads do work. Just any android device I connect...
Anyone, ran into this issue that can assist?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Connect WAP4410 to Aironet 1602 in Client mode doesn't work

    Hello,
I wish to associate my WAP4410 Aironet 1602 to a wifi bridge.
    I will explain my progress.
I configured an SSID on the Aironet (not in guest-mode) with WPA-PSK.
My iphone and my Android able to connect to the Aironet, so we can assume that the link works.
I configured my Android ICS Wifi + 3G with similar parameters.
The WAP4410 can connect to the Android, but does not connect to the Aironet.
The configuration on the WAP4410 is AP "Wireless Client / Repeater" mode with the SSID of the Aironet.
And security in WPA-TKIP + Personnal.
    Do you have any idea?
    Thanks for your help.

As Cody wrote, SP2 introduced changes in the way App-V handles permissions inside the package (which effectively hits the client's physical locations), also changes in how environments with folder redirection are supported change in SP2.
HF4 for SP2 made some modifications, too.
Are you using Folder Redirection for Appdata? Are you publishing the package in both scenarios (SP1, SP2) with the same scopes (user vs. global)?

    Hi
We're not redirecting AppData and we only ever publish packages globally to the servers. I'm going to test the package using the HF4 client with the 'write to VFS' option selected and all files outside of the PVAD as per Cody's suggestion.
I've done some more investigation and the two servers are both in the same OU, from what I can gather the only difference between the two is that one is SP1 and one is SP2.
    Thanks

  • Aironet 1140 connection and log questions

    Hi Cisco gurus,
Recently we decided to change the name of one of our Aironet 1140 AP's. Everything was great for a few days then, for some reason, nobody was able to connect to it. They would all recieve timeout messages when they would connect. A quick reset solved the problem, but I'm curious if there was an actual reason to why it didn't allow users to connect in case it happens again.
Which brings me to my next question, how do you set the AP clock so that the event logs display the proper date and time? I'm sure I overlooked something, but I can't find out how to set the proper date and time.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Cisco Aironet 1140: 3 of our 4 are always hanging

Our office has 4 Cisco Aironet 1140 access points mounted on the ceiling. They are all powered via PoE. Every few days 3 of the 4 access points hang and have to be rebooted. When they hang I am not able to connect to their web interface to check the logs. The fourth, for some reason, always seems to stay alive.
I checked the configuration for all AP's and "Hot Standby" is disabled
They are all using static IP addresses. I've tried 2 different banks of static IP addresses and 3 of 4 still hange so I don't think this is an IP conflict
I have saved the configurations and compared them and they are all identical, where possible.
They all have software version: 12.4(21a)JA1
They all have bootloader version: 12.4(23c)JA1
I have tried to download the latest software/firmware, but unfortunately I do not have a valid service contract in place with Cisco and therefore can't download the latest version. All of our CISCO hardware was purchased from Amazon resellers and they can't seem to help me with this. I have also tried to contact Cisco and they can't seem to help either. If anyone has a suggestion on how I can get a valid service contract that information would also be very helpful!!!
Does anyone have any ideas why 3 of our 4 access points would hang? When they hang, I can't login to the web interface and the logs seem to reset when I reset each access point. I have also set up an rsyslog server and I don't see a log entry that would indicate a problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

  • Aironet 1140

Hi we just purchase 2 aironet 1140 ac
    cess point
We configure both of them as access point and put one on the first floord and the second one the the second floor
Is there a way in windows client to tell windows to use the best wifi access point (the best signal) ?
If not is it better to confirure one as a repeater ?  Ive read that setting an access point as a repeater will drastically reduce throughput...
Any suggestion on how should i use these 2 access point ?
    Thanks !

There are a number of reasons whether or not the client will associate to a specific AP and not to the closest one:
    1.  Signal strength, SNR;
    2.  Client drivers
Check the signal strength of the APs from different floors.  You can either lower the transmission signals or moving the APs might help.  Another is disabling some of the lower MCS rates.

I'm able to connect client machines (running windows 7) to the new server and get them to backup.  I assume (but have not yet tested) that I would be able to do a full image restore by creating a client restore bootable usb key and booting a client from
that, but first I'd like to be able to browse the files in a client backup and restore a single file rather than the full image.  It seems that the only way to do that is to run the dashboard as a remoteapp from the client, but when I try that I get this
    error:
I thought that I might need to add the remote desktop services role.  So I tried doing that and publishing the dashboard as a remoteapp, but the error still appears.  Even if that fixed the problem, though, I would be concerned that would mean we
needed RDS CALs for each client which seems like overkill just for the ability to restore a single file from a backup.
So, is there any other way to get to the dashboard or otherwise restore files onto a client?
    Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Client 9.3.9600 unable to connect to Server 2012 RDS via Gateway

    Hi,
I have a Windows Sever 2012 R2 RDS environment with two Gateways servers configured in high availability mode (RD Web Access, RD Gateway, RD Connection Broker roles installed) and four Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS Session Hosts. The servers are all running
the most recent public server updates. With this configuration I when connecting externally using a Windows 7 computer with the older Remote Desktop Connection client (6.1.7601) I am able to connect without any problems however when I try connecting with a
newer client from a computer running Windows 8.1 and the 9.3.9600 client I am unable to connect.
At the moment a NAT rule is configured to pass 80/443 traffic to only one of the RDS gateway servers, I've removed our load balancer from the configuration for the moment to reduce the complexity.
No error is generated by the client when it tries to connect it just stops trying to connect after a while.
On the Gateways servers event logs for
Things I have looked into so far.
    - I've double and triple checked the RDS configuration and checked it against one of my other clients configurations that is working and they are identical.
    - Connecting from an older client version works fine.
I'm not sure what else can be checked does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
    1. What entries are you seeing in the RD Gateway's log?  Event Viewer\ Applications and Services Logs\ Microsoft\ Windows\ TerminalServices-Gateway
    2. How come you are not forwarding UDP port 3391 in addition to TCP port 443?  It should work without UDP, but you will not have UDP support which is one of the benefits of RDP 8.0/8.1.
    3. Are there any non-default group policy settings being applied to the servers and/or client PCs?  To be clear, I'm asking if any changes have been made to the default local and domain security policies, group policy objects, new GPOs that may have
been added, etc., that are applicable to the servers and or client PCs.

  • How to get the information like IP address,Host name of connected clients v

    Hi Every one,
I want to get the information like (IP Address,Hostname,Active sessions , Database Server….etc) of the connected clients
    via V$Views(ORACLE).
And then I like to load these infromation into a table “Client_Table”.
Could some one give me suggestion that which V$ views/method I use in order to get the above information and then
how to load these information into a table “Client_table”?
Your suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    With Regards
    BILAL

You could use a LOGON TRIGGER so every session insert its own environment into your client_info table.
You could use the following view and choose whatever attribute you need:

  • How to Install VPN and how to connect client Application server

    Hi All,
Could any one tell me. How to connect Client's Application server and How to Install VPN. Thanks in advance.......
    Thanks  & regards
    Vardhan

    where r u working?
ask your help desk to give the URL link to down load vpn
after downloading install it, its just like a wizard
you need to give your userid and password , and secureid number
secureid is a small device which displays a number(say a 6 digit number ) this number is keeps on changing for every one minitue.
you need to enter the number which is displaing while you are trying to connect to vpn.
in the middle of connecting to vpn if your secureid number changed , you need to login once again by the same procedure
