Use the backup of the computer to put the media on a new computer.
iDevices are not backups.
There are no officially supported ways of transferring non-iTunes purchases from an iDevice to a computer.

  • Help!! Connecting ipod to new laptop deleted all songs!

My daughter got a new laptop for college. In fact she is leaving in the morning-- but disaster struck and she may not be taking her music with her!!! While trying to install the ipod software on the laptop all her songs disappeared! We then went back to the PC the ipod originally linked with and were unable to re-load the songs- it also looked like some of the buttons that had been there with itunes disappeared. The other thing we did at the same time was to update the software, as we were prompted to do. What happened and how can we get the songs back on the ipod and her new computer? We started to back them up on a CD but the CD does not include the names and artists for some reason. Please help.

    hmmmmm.
even though you don't have a Toshiba, perhaps try disabling the high-speed USB interfaces on that PC. (no need to restore ... we're just checking to see if you can get recognition and a sync with them turned off.)

  • Connecting iPod to new laptop - trying to.

I have installed iTunes and tired plugging in my iPod, but my laptop doesn't see my iPod. It doesn't see it in iTunes, My Computer, or Disk Management. I have turned off the Power Management on my USB ports and I have tired connecting in Disk mode, but it still sees nothing. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • ITunes gets frozen when connecting Ipod to Dell Laptop! Help!!!

  • When i try to put music on my ipod classic my laptop will  put songs on for a bit then stops and erases my ipod.  why is this happening?

When i tryed to add new music to my ipod classic it added it fine  but when i went to play it  some songs wouldnt start playing and skipped to next songs.  i restored my ipod like it said to.  when i wnet to put all my music back on it went through a bunch and then all of a sudden it stopped and one song  about half mway through it and then i got a messege ballon saying windows couldnt find the file to sync to or something like that.  whewn i ejeckted my ipod it was blank no music that had been synced was on there  whats going on?

There are a couple of things you can try to do at this point.  The first is to temporarily disable your PC's AntiVirus/security software as it may be interferring with the sync process causing it to timeout and corrupt your iPod's filesystem, which in return erases all content from your iPod.
Also, double check to make sure you are plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port and not an older USB 1.0 port as it may not provide enough juice/power to allow a successful sync.  This means you shouldn't plug your iPod into any sort of USB hub, a keyboard with the built in USB port, or into a USB port on the front of the PC itself as they are not connected directly to the motherboard and do not provide as much power.
Lastly, try temporarily removing any other USB peripherals (minus keyboard and mouse) and try the sync process again to see if that helps.  If it does, it's likely a driver conflict with the different devices or that with each plug it, the iPod isn't allowed enough power to complete a successful sync.
You may need to remove and re-install iTunes as well as there may be some corrupt files.

  • Connecting iPod Nano through Laptop?

I bought a Belkin cable to plug my Nano into my laptop, so I can listen to my tunes at work. I plugged it into the plug with the Microphone icon (Line In plug I think?) but nothing is coming out of my laptop. Any suggestions?

I should point out that I am not trying to transfer any music files from my laptop to the nano.
I am using the 3.5mm headphone plug to connect with the laptop's 'Line In', and listen to my music through the computer's speakers and sound card.

  • HT5100 Sync iPod (Shuffle) with newly installed iTunes; songs deleted? :(

My music from my ipod (shuffle) is not on my ipod anymore after my newly installed itunes on my PC asked me to sync my ipod music, where did it go? My itunes library did not have any songs which is why I thought the songs wouldn't be replaced. I need help ...

    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party progtam like one of those discussed here
    Copy music
    - WHen everything is on your computr connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup. Do that by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.

  • IPod Nano wont hold 500 songs

I have a 2GB iPod Nano, it should hold 500 songs, but its actually only like 1.8GB which is 450 songs, no problem.
These songs should be like 4 minutes long. I have only 25 songs on my iPod, they're like 4-5 minutes each. In my iPod, in the "About" menu, it says I have 1.3GB of space left, which means, (using simple math and proportions) that my iPod will hold about 125 4-5minute songs, give or take like 25. That is rediculous, how did that happen??? I want my full 450, or at least 350, not 125, could someone please explain *** is going on? Can I convert my songs to another, smaller format like MP3 (currently they're in MPEG4)

The "500" songs claim is made based on a song of certain length recorded in a certain format at a certain bitrate. Your capacity will vary according to the length of the song, the format it's in and the bitrate in which it was encoded. Apple uses AAC for it's testing and promotion purposes, at a bitrate of 128Kbps.
If you find that your iPod doesn't hold the "proper" quantity, re-encode them in a different format. I encode my music as Mp3's at 192Kbps. I find that this is an acceptable level of quality versus size for my needs, yours may differ. My current library has 3,302 songs for a total of 17.01GB.
Follow the instructions in teh above posts to convert your library to a different format.
One warning, if you have any songs purchased from iTMS, you will have to burn them to disc and reimport them first. ProtectedAAC files cannot be converted as other formats do not support the Fairplay DRM that Apple uses.

Next thing I know his ipod has been wiped and we can't find his music. How do we get his music back? He hasn't got his laptop anymore so the only music he has was on his ipod.

Hasn't he got a backup of his content on external drives and/or CDs or DVDs ?

  • My iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, but when connected to my brand new ASUS Windows-8 laptop's USB 3.0 port the charging process just keeps "blinking" on both the iPod and the laptop and will not connect to Itunes...

Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem!                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar.                                                               When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over!                                                                                                                  I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good.                                                             I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work!                                                                                          The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated!                                                                                                                                                                I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing!                                                       I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos, since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I hope somebody knows a fix or solution! Thank You!
