Connected laptop to overhead projector - now my desktop/etc is large, fuzzy

Hi all,
I connected my laptop to a VGA (?) cable to give a presentation. I noticed that as soon as it connected, my display got much wider, the fonts bigger, etc, but didn't pay any attention to it.
Now my computer won't go back to normal, however. I have already fixed the resolution in System Preferences - now the desktop photo looks normal, but everything else is still BIGGER. Save me from my third grade-looking laptop! What can I do?
A PC friend muttered something about a video card being the culprit - does that make any sense?

Already did that - but it's not just the icons. For example, even the Apple icon that appears when you sign in is bigger. So is Microsoft Word (I can't even see my formatting bars). So is the writing across the top of the Firefox browser (even though I adjusted the font of the content). Etc. Etc.
Something is amiss! I can't figure our what happened.

  • IPad 2 crashes when connected to an overhead projector

    Hi everyone,
I handle IT for the public library. We use an iPad 2 for many courses and programs.
Lately, any time we connect the iPad to our overhead projector via HDMI adapter (model A1388), the iPad crashes and needs to be completely rebooted in order to restore any functionality.
I'm currently upgrading to iOS 8.1, so hopefully that will have a beneficial impact, but thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions to share.
    Thoughts?

Be advised that there are reports of older hdmi cables not working in 8.0 and 8.0.2.  Don't know that status of 8.1.  If you run into this problem, you will need to try a new cable.

  • Best Method to Connect to My MAC Mini - VNC, Remote Desktop etc

First Post so please go easy on me....
I have had my MAC Mini (1st ever MAC) just one week now and trying to get setup just how I want it and finding hard to find the right program / method to remotely access and control it from my Windows 7 Laptop. Can you please offer some advice and I have used VNC but i am finding that it is delayed as well as being very jumpy. Now I use my ipad to connect using splashtop remote which is very smooth and would like something that can handle the task until I can persuade the other half to get me a Macbook.
    Thank you

Thanks for your comment mooblie, when you use free vnc do you actually use any other installed software on your MAC as I believe there is a built in MAC Server / Client in OSX 10.6?
You're right - there is a VNC server built-into Snow Leopard - as plcn says.
So "no" you don't need any more software on the Mac. Set it up like this:

  • IPod touch 4th gen stuck in connect/disconnect loop, will not charge on desktop PC, but is recognized fine by older laptop?

I have an iPod 4th gen that up until the week before was connecting and charging fine on my desktop computer (running Windows 7(64-bit)).  Now, when connected to the USB ports on my desktop, it goes into this rapid and unending connect/disconnect loop, never staying connected long enough to even be recognized by the computer.  There is an error message that also says that charging is not supported by the computer, when before, things were fine.  Despite all the problems on the desktop, the iPod is recognized fine by my 5 year old laptop, which is running a simplified version Windows XP.  Halp.  I've tried everything on the iPod support pages regarding this issue, and would really like to avoid calling Apple about this.  Any suggestions?

Try putting it is DFU mode:

  • I have want to connect my laptop to a projector but it dosnt work, how do I do it?

I have want to connect my laptop to a projector but it dosnt work, how do I do it?

Hi! In order to connect a macbook pro to a projector you will need to purchase this cable and attack it to the cable from the projector. This way you have a connector that can be plugged into your computer:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB572Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
If you already own this cable and are having problems mirroring the display from your computer on the projector screen, go to system preferences>displays and then hit arrangement tab (note: this will only appear if the projector or external monitor is attached) and then hit the checkbox that says mirror display.
If you are having other problems, please elaborate so that I can provide a better answer.

How do i connect to an OHP (Overhead Projector) with MacBook Air? Is it possible? What leads would I need?
    Thanks.

Good question! The simple answer is, I haven't the foggiest idea. I will be going abroad, so don't know what kind of OHP i will have to use. I have a lead that connects with a tv (HDMI - I think). But am not sure about OHPs.

Hello, I dropped coffee on my keyboard. I wiped the coffee off as fast as I could, BUT I hit al sorts of buttons while it was still connected to my computer. NOW Everything looks  photo negative. I want to restore my desktop defaults.

Hit control-option-command-8 to reverse the negative effect. You can also do this, and check other settings, in System Preferences>Universal Access.

  • HT1338 I'm trying to attach my MacBook Pro to an overhead projector and can't get it to work. If I go to System Prefs/Displays, I see the box on the screen.  But when I collapse the Prefs the desktop is not seen. Can you help?

I'm trying to get an overhead projector to identify my macbookpro.  If I go to Prefs and select screens that dialogue box comes up on screen.  So I know there's nothing wrong with the VGA cable.  But when the screen box is collapsed nothing happens.  My computer is not recognized by the projector.  Can anyone help?
On a PC I used to hit "control F5.  But I don't believe that works on a MacBook. Any suggestions?

About the only thing you can try is using the Online Internet Recovery system to reinstall Lion on your Mac over the top of the current install. that will reset all system files and should not touch your personal files or the apps you have installed.
Or iof you have a recent Time Machine backup use that to restore your Mac to that point in time.

  • How to connect to a powerpoint projector

I've created my first presentation in Keynote and tried to show it from my laptop. The projector did not recognize my computer. I exported the Keynote file into powerpoint but the projector still did not recognize the computer. The projector had several ways to connect to my MacBook but only one of them could connect at both ends. It was a cable with a USB connector on one end and a small metal connector on the other end which fit into a spot n the projector. But nothing happened.
I finally put the pp presentation on a flash drive and borrowed someone's PC. That worked. But I'd prefer to use my MacBook. Any advice?

I have Lenovo ThinkPad T520 (i7, NVIDIA 4200TM) with dock station and two monitors. Sometimes when I close notebook and undock it from dock station. Then I cannot login to my notebook because of error "Number of connection to this computer limited and

Laptop is not in domain and does not have remote desktop connections. It was just turned in sleep mode and late turned on.
This happen pretty often one from 10..20 times of undock.  It did not happen with Windows 7 before.

The network does not work properly after you resume the computer. This kind of issues are cuased by the network device driver. Download the latess Windows 8 driver from Lenovo website and install it.

I installed Firefox on a laptop under Admin acct--now I can't access it from std user account. If I installed Firefox onto the laptop under the Admin account, why didn't it put a desktop icon on the std user account also? I don't recall ever having this problem on an any other computer I've had. I have already tried looking under the program files folders for a Mozilla folder while logged into the std user account-- there is no Mozilla folder to be found. Also, when I try to install Firefox on the Std user account, the parental controls keeps me from doing it. I have went in and added the Firefox install web link as an allowable website under the parental controls, but it does not help. Please help me figure out how to get Firefox installed on my std user account.

  • Mac books and panasonic overhead projectors.

Our school district has gone to mac book airs. I have seen two collegues create power points in Microsoft office, using MS Office for macs and the power ppint was created on a mac. Now the problem: when they connect to the overhead and run the powerpoint the slides are way to big to show on the overhead projector.  We have the image resolution on the macs under the display icon in the header we set the reslolution to as small as 1940 x760. If I remember correctly.  The power point slide is still to big.  Our solution so far is to enlarge the margin area in the slide. For example a title on a page instead of being at a 1" margin is now at a 3" margin ( move all the inofrmation to the middle of the slide) and this appears to work. I see something about scale in the help but am unsure if this is going to help.  Hope I have explained this well enough. P. S. the overhead projector is a Panasonic do have the model at this writing. 3-5 years old and ceiling mounted, so not moveable.

    Hi
Still one has to know that DVDs can only be SD-video (it's a standard) any program used.
But You can get a better result by using iMovie HD6 or FinalCut any version as they can deliver intrelaced video over to iDVD (or Roxio Toast™ or DVD-Studio Pro) - this will not discard every second line as iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 does.
You might also try to use FotoMagico™ to make SlideShows as this also results in as high quality possibly.
If You need even better then consider
    • Blu-Ray (Roxio Toast™ Pro bundle incl. BD-component) - Short BD movies on standard DVD disks (BUT neeed Blu-ray player to be viewed (no not on any standard Mac either))
    • Save to Memory stick and Playback on PlayStation 3
