Connected to internet; no internet access

I recently did a factory restore on my laptop [Gateway NV52 w/ Windows 7] and the internet connected beautifully as always through a wireless connection, through the Actiontec MI424 provided to us by Verizon. After restarting the PC, it connected to the internet automatically as usual. However, after opening Internet Explorer, Firefox, and several other programs that use the internet, they all seem to agree that there is no connection to the internet.
On the bottom right-hand part of the screen, all five bars appear as normal representing the WiFi connection. I checked the Network and Sharing Center, and the connection map showed that there was nothing obstructing the connection to the internet. I tried running Microsoft Security Essentials to detect anything malicious; but all was fine. I restarted the PC, connected it via Ethernet to the router, and nothing. This morning, the internet was running fairly slow on all our other PCs, but that issue resolved itself. I also went into the Device Manager to see if anything was wrong with the drivers, but it detected no problem.
Is this a common problem? I've never experienced it before. The only other thing I can think of to fix this would be to reset the router, but I'm not sure if that would do something to the set-top boxes. Any help would be appreciated.

Well if all the other computers connect, the router and internet should be fine.
The most common thing that will block program access while the computer is connected would be a firewall. Do you have any firewalls on that computer? If so, try shutting it down temporarily and see what happens.
Also have you tried pinging out from the command prompt? Although the graphic in the internet and sharing center says you are connected, it is not always accurate. It may be giving you a false reading. I'd double check by using the ping command and I'd also check to make sure that the computer is pulling down a proper IP.
After the restore, did the computer do any windows updates? Its possible you got a hold of a bad update. You may want to try another restore.

This issue may be discussed somewhere else here, and if so I'm sorry for reposting this problem.  I have a Macbook Pro bought around June 2011.  I just updated the firmware to 10.7.3  Everytime I wake the macbook from sleep, the wifi connects immediatley, dropbox syncs immediatley, but chrome or safari won't load pages until a couple minutes after connecting.  I thought it may be a firewall problem, and I allowed connections to Chrome, but that didn't fix the problem.  Has anyone else been having issues with internet after the patch?

I suggest you talk to your local college support person.  It seems that internet access might be disabled and you need to get them to help you get it enabled.

  • HT4437 Can you use airplay to stream from an iPad to a TV with a network connection without internet access

Can you use airplay to stream from an iPad to a TV with a network connection without internet access

Yes, you can use a network storage device for the storage of your content and use it on the Apple TV, but only as part of your iTunes library. So if your question is whether or not you can do this without using your computer or iTunes the answer is no.

  • E71x Dial-up connection for internet access on ph...

When I lived in Africa I would use either google talk or skype to speak with my family back in the States. Wifi was extremely rare especially in my area so I had to connect via a dial-up connection. When I bought my E71x, I installed "Fring" on it (an amazing app) and I am able to call and speak to someone on google talk or skype over my phone. My question is, how do I setup a dialup access point for my cell phone so that I can access the internet and google talk/skype by that connection? Thanks, Joshua

I don't use either Fring or Skype in my handset, I use a program called truphone from www.truphone.com and the network settings enable you to use it via 3G GPRS or WiFi.
You should check with your network operator that this is permitted, as most see VoIP services as revenue loss and will disable the ports or charge extra for the service.

  • Though WiFi connection, no Internet access!

I am so frustrated!! I hope to find some help.
Though I seem to have full WiFi connection on all of my devices, I can not access the internet with two of them.
There can be NO problem with the router, as this happens with any other network connected as well.
    1. MacBook Pro runs slow but smooth (I am in China, so occasionally something breaks down due to censorship)
    2. iPhone 4 AND iPad 2.  It seems connected. But I have no access to iTunes Store, AppStore, Safari, VPN or any other Apps requiring Internet connection. I cannot even delete them from the cloud because of no "connection".  BUT i can use on the iPhone (only) WhatsApp and weChat. Nothing else!! ...I don't understand...
    I rebooted both many times
    Reseted Network settings many times
    Please help with any ideas!!
    Cheers, Veronica

First confirm the working network specs on the Mac. In System Preferences / Network / Wi-Fi / Advanced… / TCP/IP determine the IP address, net mask and router address and in the DNS tab, those server addresses (min. 1, max 3). Note also the Network Name before clicking on Advanced… All this if on Wi-Fi, else select the Ethernet item in the Network (no Network Name in that case)
On the iGadgets, Settings / Wi-Fi / <your SSID> and tap on the i in a circle. The SSID should be the same as the Mac's Network Name if all on Wi-Fi. The leftmost part of the IP address must be the same, as must also coincide with the net mask, router and DNS addresses. If anything is different, try to determine why the iGadget does not coincide with the known-good Mac config. Or holler back for help.
All the above assuming you are set up for IPv4 internetworking. If it is all on IPv6 (hugely long IP addresses) holler back for help.

  • Wifi connected no internet access.

I downloaded hotspot shield and immediately my internet stopped working.  Wifi still connects to every available wifi.  Every other device can connect without an issue.  I deleted hotspot shield from applications and the problem persists.  When i delete then re-add wifi in network settings it temporarily says no ip. Any suggestions?

    Tried power cycling?
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
         It will take a   while.
         Restart the computer.

  • "Self Assigned IP Address" - connected, no internet access

I have a Netgear WGT624 v2 wireless router that is hard wired to one iMac while other laptops have wireless access to it. This set-up has been working fine for awhile - but now the laptops are saying that they are connected via the router, but they've created "self assigned IP addresses."
I called Netgear tech support and they had no answers, all they would do was make sure that the laptops were able to find the router, which they can, they just can't connect. Why are they creating their own IP addresses?
Is there a solution to this problem? What causes it?

Check your setup in the router for wireless clients. Log on to it and make sure that DHCP is enabled if you use it and you are in infrastructure mode ( wired/wireless combo ). Also, if the clients are B or G mode, make sure the router is set correctly to that mode or mixed. If the IP addresses are 169.254.xxx.xxx then they aren't really getting an address ( this may only happen in Windows, don't remember). If you don't use MAC address filtering for security, a blank list could have been turned on........ anyways, go through all your router configurations for wireless and make sure they are the same or close to the settings for the wired Mac that works. Probably just a checkmark somewhere that isn't supposed to be. Has anyone been in there messing with it? Good luck.

  • Loss of DNS connection and internet access to camera

I seemed to have lost my connection after a power outage last week. I've reconfigured the camera several times and it still seems to lose it's settings (date, static IP) I've checked the port forward settings which are fine. I see the camera on my PC utility and within my network. There is also a error on the camera that it hasn't been able to contact the DDNS server on it's scheduled updates. Any suggestions. I'm using the Linksys router WRT54GX2.

    Hi....
As you are losing the settings on the camera i would like u to upgrade the camera firmware.
    Also upgrade the router firmware.
After upgrading the camera and the router firmware, reset the devices and then reconfigure it.
After reconfiguring the camera, login into the camera setup page, go to setup and then sololink DDNS and click on Update now.
Check whether you are able to access the camera  remotely.

  • JetPack 4G LTE connects but "no internet access" message

    Would appreciate any help.
My JetPack 4G LTE mi-fi connects to the internet (3G or 4G) and shows that my devices are connected to it.  However, I cannot get on the internet.
    1)  I have three different devices - two laptops and a smartphone.  All three have the same problem.
    2)  I have a Sprint Mi-Fi that I use for a different business.  All three devices can and do connect to that device and work properly on the internet during the same sessions in which they cannot connect on the Verizon JetPack.  So it is not the devices I am trying to connect with.
    3)  The exact same thing has happened several times over the course of about 4 days and in two cities and two states - all three devices unable to connect via JetPack but connect fine through Sprint Mi-Fi.  So it is not location or local network issue.
    4)  LED display on JetPack, in all instances, show a strong 3G or 4G (depending on where I am) signal and also that all three devices are connected.
    5)  Message on laptop wireless area shows connection but says "no internet access".
    6)  Under the wireless status or details, it says (on the list of info):  "IPv4  no internet access" and "IPv6 no internet access".
    7)  I have done a battery pull with no effect.
    8)  I have done a factory reset (power up, remove cover, press reset button until long green light and short green light) with no effect.
    9)  After both battery pull and factory reset, I still show connected to 3G, all three devices connected, no internet access, and all three devices then work on the Sprint mi-fi.
    10)  Symptoms started about 4 days ago and have not changed since - it is not a come-and-go problem.  It is not working at any time.
I am hoping to gosh to avoid a long ordeal with tech-support at Verizon.  This is a company-issued device, so I could ask my company to take it up with Verizon, but I work remotely and access to the IT department is not that simple either.  thought I would see if I am missing something simple.  I hope I've given enough info for someone brighter than myself here can spot something I could do.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thank you for your response.  I am having trouble logging back into this site to respond (I never created a User ID and don't know my cell phone number as it is a mi-fi and not a cell).  I reregisterd for the forums only under a slight ID variation and will continue to do so for this dialog.  Thanks very much.
The back of the Jetpack says SSID: "MiFI4620L Jetpack 89B4".   I am currently using the device (since the problems began last week) in zip codes 49504 and 49503 - same symptom both places.
    Thanks again.

  • No internet access after restart - msi RG300ex lite

I just bought an msi RG300ex lite wireless router. Right off, the instruction manual is essentially worthless. I am trying to secure my connection which it seems there are 2 ways of doing this: through the wireless wizard or through the set-up tool page (wireless set-up). Problem is, once I do the set-up it works, but it the router is plugged out and turned back on my internet connection says no internet access. I then have to go through the internet wizard to get a connection again. What am I doing wrong, since the instruction manual does not mention anything about securing the wireless connection? I see there is wpa-psk and etc. The wizard chose wpa-psk2 I believe. Through a check on my windows 7 properties of the wireless connection the security type doesn't list any psk, I only see wpa personal, wpa2 enterprise. To tell you the truth I have no idea what the issue is. If you can provide me with a step by step would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here's is the info, it may not be with the router itself, but the router contrasting with the modem. I open the box with the new MSI wifi and plug it into the modem. Computer(s) see connection and it is open with internet access.  I connect and enter 192.168.0.1 into browser and screen appears showing "set up tool", "internet wizard" and "wireless wizard". I select wireless wizard, enter admin name and pass., USA, write a name in SSID which it checks for duplicates, select best channel, choices appear ( WEP, WPAPSK/WPA2PSK, and No Wireless Security), I choose WPAPSK/WPA2PSK (thus far tried them all), select next and more choices appear: AES, TKIP, I choose AES, Enter a network key (which I make up of course),  then select finish and save and close. Sweet, everything is working. Try 3 different computers, everything is perfect. The chosen wifi connection reads "internet access. To test it, I then unplug the "router" from the wall, because this is what I normally do whenever I leave home anyway, and plug it back in and the wifi connection is visible but the it says "no internet access" when I connect to it. I then have to enter 192.168.0.1 into the browser again, select internet wizard, two choices appear: "Automatic Internet configuration (Wizard will search Internet connection type automatically. DHCP or PPPoE modem can be detected.)" and "Manual Internet configuration", I choose automatic. It then says: "Physical connection of Internet(WAN) port is OK.
    If external modem exists,
reboot the modem and check a Link/Sync/Online LED of modem.
if this LED is on and doesn't blink,
then you can process the next step by clicking 'Next' button."
The is not blinking so I select next. It then says "Detecting Internet service type. Please wait a minute." Then "Internet is ready! DHCP", and everything is working again. However, why must I go through all of this each time? I never had to do any such thing with my last Belkin Router with the same modem, though unfortunately the router had a short or something after years of use and died. Help me please.

  • Can't connect to internet on dock

I have a new T410s that I'm trying to set up on a new Series 3 dock and external monitor.
Internet access works fine when either plugged directly into my home LAN via ethernet or via WiFi.But when I dock it, I get connnectivity problems.  No internet connectivity via LAN or (weirdly) by WiFi if I turn on the wireless adapter.  If I unplug the ethernet cable, the WiFi works.  But in any event - wired or wireless, docked or not - if I click on the connection in the control panel, it says, IPv6 connectivity: no Internet access.  Even if I'm connected.
Help!  Anyone have any insight on what I'm missing?

    After more troubleshooting.
When wired directly to either the network switch or to the broadband router, everything works fine.
When wired through the outlet in our structured wiring system - either to the dock or directly to the computer, with the ethernet cable in the structured wiring panel plugged either directly into the router or into the switch - it fails to get an IP address.  It connects to the network, just fails to resolve the IP address.
Could a physical wiring fault in the structured wiring system somewhere between the computer and the network switch cause a failure to get an IP address?

  • How do I connect to internet with vz access manager for iphone 4S?

I have VZ Access Manager on my laptop and want to use it to connect to internet on my new iphone 4S.  How do I do this?

If you can set up an Ad Hoc wireless network from your laptop, you could use it that way. Once again VZ Access Manager will not enter into the sharing part.
Plug these search terms into Google:
set up an ad hoc network
    You'll find lots of instructions.
    Best of luck.

  • Is it possible to be connected with a 3G modem for internet access and a WiFi router for printer sharing at the same time?

For our only internet access we have a 3G wireless modem. I have since purchased a WiFi printer and router to connect all the comptuters to in the house. The PCs have no problem with using both the 3G connection and the WiFi signal at the same time to print, however, the MacBook Pro will not connect to the 3G network and the router, it will drop the internet access from the modem and attempt to connect via WiFi (which has no internet access). Is there a solution that is available to remedy this? I attempted to create an adhoc printer network, however, the macbooks again will not print off of this, only the PCs. And I'm getting a bit frustrated overall with this.

The 3G wireless modem is on one of the PC's correct?
Why don't you pass the Internet through the Ethernet port to the router via Cat5 cable, then have that transmit a Wifi signal that everything else can use, then connect the printer to the router for print sharing?
You would have to turn off the wifi on the comptuer with the 3G modem as it's physically connected to the router and can't connect to the other machines as they are all connected to the router for sharing.
The Mac has the ability to pass, Internet Sharing in the System Preferences.
Do you have software for the Mac to run the 3G modem?
