Connected to network but not the internet

Hi all,
Earlier today when I tried to get onto the web Safari wouldn't let me. It says I am not connected to the internet, although my airport has full bars. I was using the web this morning without any problems, this just suddenly happened. I have decided it is something to do with the computers wireless settings because I have it sitting right next to a Macbook Pro which connects wirelessly, as do 3 iPhones without any trouble, and I can use the internet when I have my Macbook plugged in via an ethernet cable.
I have repaired disk permissions, restarted a few times and tried to create a new airport connection without any luck. Network Diagnostics just says i am 'unable to join airport network'.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Tom

    Hey DM,
Is the Wireless(WL) router signal coming through the wired-router?
My ISP requires that my Wireless Router is identified from their end. I use AirPort Express, so they need its MAC address from the router. Without that, my network will show up, but my ISP doesn't recognize it and won't allow it to route he internet. I don't know your exact situation though.
Can other wireless computers access the internet? If they can through the WL router, then it might be the MacBook. If they can't, then you might want to contact your ISP and ask if they can see your wireless router?
    Let us know.

  • WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none receive

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • I can connect to my wireless network but not the internet

Hi. I've had my iBook G4 for just about a year and it's worked fantastically... until recently. My roommate has a PC and a linksys wireless router, and I've always been able to connect wirelessly to the internet until last week. I came home from work one day, and my iBook "saw" our wireless network and could "see" other computers on the network, but could not access the internet. My roommate had no problem accessing the internet through the wi-fi on his Dell laptop. So I zapped my p-ram and fiddled with some settings, but I still had the same problem.
Next I re-installed OS X, and tried again. Still the same issue. Of course, by this time I'm getting frustrated, but then about 12 hours later I decide to try it again and it just works! Like there was never any problem....
So anyway, it worked like a dream for about a week and now I have the same exact problem again! It connects to the network but not the internet. Is this a known problem? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -joe.

i was having the same issue with all my devices. everything would cut out and i would have to reboot my router...my internet service provider is ATT and i have a Uverse router. i went to their online support and i was able to chat with a tech support agent and they ended up changing the channel of my router and that has resolved my problem....i am currently steaming pics from my iphoto library to my apple tv and my wife is streaming music from her iphone at the same time...support tech stated that usually they have the router set to a generic channel that usually has a lot of traffic.

  • My computer will connect to wifi but not the Internet

My computer will connect to wifi but not the Internet. It's not a problem with my router because I've tried other devices on the same router and they work. I have also tried my computer on other routers and there is still no Internet connection. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hello Bmowat,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you are able to successfully connect to your Wifi network, but cannot get internet access.
I found this article for you named Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
This section in particular since you have Mountain Lion installed:
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 or later
Use the Wireless Diagnostics application included with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.4 and later to identify and resolve Wi-Fi issues. For further information, please see About Wireless Diagnostics.
It is a built in troubleshooting tool to help diagnose and repair network issues and should help you resolve this issue.
    All the very best,

  • New Macbook Pro Connects to Network but not to Internet

I just got a new Macbook pro and I transferred everything from my old macbook pro from a timemachine backup. The internet works fine on my old macbook pro (running 10.5.8) but if I turn on the airport in my new macbook neither machine can connect to the internet. It also makes the internet stop working on my roommates pc. All machines can see the wireless network, just not the internet. Tethering from iPhone works fine.
I've given both macbooks separate ip addresses. Restarted the modem. Run network diagnostics (the server and internet dots are yellow), deleted all other saved networks and restarted, but none of that is working. The new Macbook keeps crashing our internet connection.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You transferred your network PPC connection to your Intel OS X. Go to the blog How I fixed my dropping wireless Airport connection problem in Snow Leopard and follow there steps in resetting the preferences for the Airport card.
If the non of these steps work, take it to Apple ASAP.

  • I can connect to WiFi but not the internet

I am trying to connect a new IPad 2.  I have a Belkin router that is B+G+N.  I use WPA2 encryption and MAC filtering.  The IPAD's MAC address was entered into the router and when I provide the encryption key as the password I am able to connect to WiFi but not anything Internet related except for email.  When I type any URL in Safari it takes me to my router's management page.  In fact I can log into my router and manage it from my IPad but I can't connect to anything else.  I have 8 other computers/devices that connect to the router fine including two Apple Ipod touch's.  This has me baffled.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

  • Airport Express I can connect to my wireless network but not the internet.

The computer I set up my Airport express on works fine. But my other laptop in my house connects to the network but not internet. Why is this?

i was having the same issue with all my devices. everything would cut out and i would have to reboot my router...my internet service provider is ATT and i have a Uverse router. i went to their online support and i was able to chat with a tech support agent and they ended up changing the channel of my router and that has resolved my problem....i am currently steaming pics from my iphoto library to my apple tv and my wife is streaming music from her iphone at the same time...support tech stated that usually they have the router set to a generic channel that usually has a lot of traffic.

  • Can connect to network, but not to internet

I have a wireless network set up with four macs connecting to it. Three of the macs can connect to the network and access the internet.
My Black Macbook can connect to the network, but when I open Safari or any other program that connects to the internet I cannot actually get on the internet. For example, I open safari and after a few minutes it says I am not connected to the internet.
I can connect to my neighbor's unprotected wireless network and have no problem getting on the internet with that connection.
I have tried turning the computer off and on and turning the airport off and on and it does not solve anything. I did not do anything to the compueter, it just started this problem out of the blue.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Do you have IP address limits ? Say I have 5 IP
    addresses limit.
That is not it. And, I did not change anything before it just stopped working. The strange thing it is only within my wireless network that I can't access the internet. I eventually get the "you are not connected to the internet" screen each time I try to bring up a web page.

  • Connect to smb but not the internet?

Is it possible to enable my wireless card to connect to my NAS and not to the internet?

To get a guest machine onto a network to access file shares but not have internet access you can:
    - manually remove the default route on the client,
    - configure the DHCP server to give that particular client no "routers" option, or
    - put firewall rules on the router to prevent forwarding of traffic from that router.
Manually messing with client routing is annoying and typically needs to be redone every time they connect, so that's probably not useful outside of a one-off. If you just want the client to have no internet access by default (but be able to turn it on easily if they need it), add a custom DHCP config for that MAC. If you want to enforce the lack of internet access, do it through firewall rules.
If I've completely misinterpreted what you're trying to do, please provide more details.

  • Laptop connects to the network, but not the internet

I recently bought a Toshiba Satelite A135-S4666, and since I got it and got the router set up with the laptop, the internet on the laptop quits responding after about 30 min to 1 hr. of the laptop being on.
I had a friend set up the modem manually using the 192.168.1.1 IP address, so I'm pretty sure that none of my settings are wrong.  I also have a desktop connected with hard lines to the router, and I never have a problem.
At this point, I am really irritated because I can't ever use the laptop for more than a few minutes without having to keep re-booting.  I don't know if it's a hardware problem or a settings problem.  I've entertained the idea of backing up all my docs from the laptop and restoring it from the disc that was in the box when I bought it, but I wonder if that will even work.
Has anyone out there experienced this problem, or know how I can fix it as painlessly as possible?

I have a client with the same problem. I found a message in a forum on TechIMO saying the problem was Vista TCP/IP packets 'fall apart' while undergoing the firewall's SPI. I haven't found any mention of it on the Linksys website which makes me wonder if the guy knew what he was talking about, but it sounds possible.
I'm certain it's something in the interaction between Vista & the WRT54G as the other computers on the network (all XP) work fine.

  • Macbook will connect to wireless but not the internet

My Macbook will connect to my wireless but will not follow through and connect to the internet.
I have checked the wireless setup with my iPhone and the iPhone has no problems getting on the internet.
I have checked with Network Diagnostics and cannot get green lights on the last 2 issues.
I have checked firewall settings and even reduced the level of firewall, still no joy.
I have checked the hardware with the startup disk, all hardware is OK.
Short of a complete reinstall, what else can I do to get my Macbook back on the internet.

I've got a late spring 2009 macbook, time capsule networked with an airport express extending my network. My Iphone never loses it's connection to the network. My Macbook has been dropping daily from the network. The only solution I found was physically disconnecting the time capsule and modem and restarting. This worked but was getting annoying, so I rang Apple.
They told me to go to system preferences, network, location, edit locations, add a location which comes up untitled, then click on assist and keep pressing continue, select your network and enter password. I was told to monitor the situation, but this solution should help.
Tonight my macbook dropped off the network. I went through the above solution and it reconnected, I didn't have to disconnect any of my devices. It's not ideal, but I reckon apple will release an update soon that fixes this internet drop out, reckon an automator every time internet drops using their solution solves the problem...not that i've made one.

  • CONNECTS TO NETWORK BUT NOT TO INTERNET

    Hello, PLEASE HELP
we are trying to get my wife’s computer connected to the internet.
We have an Airport Extreme network that i use for my G5/ OS 10.4.5... and she is using Windows XP Professional on her laptop..
The laptop connects fine to our home network... but will not connect to the internet via IE..
Do I need to download some kind of driver for the Airport to enable it to connect via windows ?
    any other ideas ?
    Thank you so much
IBM think pad   Windows XP Pro
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

After reading some of the similar topics on the
Board, I have taken the password off my system. still
no joy..the IBM thinkpad does not recognize the
wireless system.. and I have moved it next to the
airport to assure an adequate S/N ratio
You said before it was connecting to the wireless network, you are saying now it isn't?
Is the physical switch for the wireless in the on position?
next step is to try to get access by connecting a USB
cable to the rear of the Airport Extreme and then to
    my wife’s computer..
do you think this may work better ?
Won't work, the USB port is for a printer.
You can use an ethernet cable from the LAN port and that should work.

  • Connects to router, but not the internet

Since I got it about six months ago, my Macbook Pro (2.4 GHz Core Duo, 13-inch) has had issues with getting on the Internet. I don't think it is the router because it happens with other wireless networks; aslo my partner's Macbook (and my iPod touch) works fine on our network.
Anyway, when I open the computer up, it connects to the router fine but I can't access the Internet. I have to reset the router through its software (i.e. by going to its IP address in my web browser) for it to work, and then it's fine. It's irritating—I don't understand why it won't just connect to the Internet upon waking up.
The router's an all-in-one router/cable model provided by our Internet company (Rogers in Canada). But, as I said, I don't think the problem is the router as this happens with other networks and doesn't happen with my partner's Macbook.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

I am renting an apartment for a month. It comes with internet access; modem and router. The owner's laptop connects fine. My iPhone connects fine. My wife's iPhone connects fine. Her MacBook cannot connect. I removed the owner's router and put my own in. Everything connects fine. Bottom line is just because a couple of systems connect doesn't mean it's not the router.

  • New Ipad Connecting to WiFi but NOT the internet

I have the new iPad (3) and had it set up fine to connect through WiFi.  Recently I activated the Verizon LTE account and used it while on a trip.  Since then, my iPad will not connect to Wifi any longer.   I have tried the following:
-Forgotten the network and tried to log in again fresh...Will connect to my airport extreme but will not connect to internet (Airport utility shows green lights everywhere except for internet, I show a full signal but the wheel just keeps spinning)
-Reset the network settings, same effect
-Reset the entire iPad, same effect
now I am to the point where I have to setup the iPad again via iTunes because it will not connect to the internet via WiFi
I have reset all modems and routers to factory settings and it still doesn't help.
Throughout all of this I am still able to connect to the internet via my airport extreme AND internet using two iphones, apple TV, my mac, and my pc.
Hoping for a solution on here, otherwise it looks like a day at the "genius" bar.
